Autor's Note: Welcome back everyone. I hope the last chapter was welcomed well as it is a very special one to me. Now, takes on shortly afterwards Blake's injury and there'll be sort of a track towards who's to blame for the "accident". I hope you will enjoy this one so happy reading!
UNWELCOME VISITORS, chapter 7
The next morning Julie and Blake were sleeping tenderly together when strange noises woke Julie up. She closed the window and the door of the bedroom so that they won't disturb Blake's rest and went down the stairs to prepare her tea. She didn't mind about that noises, she thought they came from the other house where their neighbors were known for their fights since she had moved in. As she arrived, the noises got louder, almost unbearable and she was so confused by them that she didn't even manage to read the freshly delivered periodical, she thought it would have been better to watch the daily news on television and as she turned the channel on there was a tabloid service with a journalist rudely attacking about one of the most famous actresses. She was about to change the channel not being interested in such news but a house similar to hers attracted her attention. Suddenly she realized the truth: looking from the window of the kitchen there was a huge crowd of fans, journalists, and reporters actually inveighing against her. She quickly opened the journal and found the headline saying "Julie Andrews: thief of men and rings". And the article reported every possible detail about it asserting that she had taken Blake away from his fiancée, the woman he wanted to marry and to whom she had stolen the wedding ring too. It was even said that she had threatened Patricia if she did not let Blake go.
Julie was appalled. Not a single thing was true, they only were false voices against her. But, as she had always believed, even though news weren't true as soon as it began to be a gleamor of truth, the rumor had started before she could know, and it was happening just that: it seemed the whole Hollywood was going against her, trying to give justice to "poor" Patricia. Of course she hated gutter press and was particularly disappointed about what was happening but she couldn't be lucid in taking a clear decision. One thing was sure, she wanted that crowd to go away immediately, but if on one hand she wanted to make everything clear, on the other she didn't want to go outside and say a thing about it, it would have been too humiliating for her and, of course, it would have meant to leave Blake alone. Also, she didn't want him to know about it, he shouldn't have been worried about such a terrible thing, it would have just added other dangerous stress and he wouldn't have been able to bear it. That immense crowd was all against her and she had to fight them all alone.
Suddenly she took enough courage to go outside but that very moment Blake called her and she run up the stairs worried that he needed something.
"What the hell is going on outside darling?!", Blake asked and Julie didn't know what to answer, she just blushed and looked down.
The television in their bedroom was tuned on the channel of that service and as Blake heard it and looked at his Julie, defenseless and hurt, he understood everything and didn't think twice about getting up from the bed. His pain was still tremendous and the last thing he wanted to do was to walk but despite the enormous difficulty he had to face in walking, he went down the stairs as quickly as possible. Julie tried to stop him making him realize that perhaps the best thing to do was just to wait for everything to fade, especially with his conditions but there was absolutely nothing she could do to stop him.
As he walked down Julie could hear his moans of pain at every step and for some reason she wasn't sure about, she feared that he could scold her. Maybe because she had tried to stop him or maybe because all the troubles had started since they got engaged and this made her burst into tears, miserably. She was almost afraid to discover what Blake would have done about it. He had immediately called the police to intervene and he fought restlessly against that crowd saying that all the rumors were fake and that actually his ex-girlfriend was the one that had planned the whole thing. He tried to appeal and make them remember that Julie was the purest and most honest woman on earth but the huge campaign had persuaded that crowd so much that they didn't even listen to him at all. Julie looked out the door and the thing that devastated her the most, more than hearing all that people offending her, was to see Blake throwing his crutches down in sign of anger and defending her from that evilness with all his strength. She realized that she had to do something about it, at least bring Blake back before it could be too late.
She took a deep breath and bravely stepped out, terrified at the certainty that things were about to worsen. As soon as the crowd could see her clearly their screams became louder and their offences heavier. People in the front row, immediately followed by the others, became violent and started to slam the bars of the gate to break it down and enter. Some of them even threw stones or whatever they could get their hands on at her. She expected to be exposed to a lot of rage but she never thought to see her and her boyfriend's safety threatened like this. The shock was so violent that all she could do was to remain petrified, her terrified eyes widely opened at that frightening sight.
Blake hoped she wouldn't have come out but the minute he saw her he ran to her as fast as he could to hold her and protect her from the potential blows of what people were throwing. He remained glued to her in protection and the police arrived just in time to pull the crowd away.
When it all was over Julie was terribly scared, the crowd had almost broken the gates of her house and if they had entered they would have beaten her for sure. She was desperate and the whole situation was completely out of her control.
When Blake was brought back to bed, compared to what had happened in the previous days, she was the one leaning on Blake: he was hurt physically but she was hurt emotionally and he knew she needed all the support from her love. They sat on the bed with a nice cup of tea which hopefully would have helped Julie to calm down a little.
- "Are we going to talk about this?" Blake asked after a long pause
She sipped some tea from her cup. Another pause.
- "I don't know... I am so sorry that you had to ..."
- "Stop it. I don't want to hear that you are sorry for me, I want to know how are you feeling"
- "I'm not sure, I... I feel so scared. All this is going on without me wanting to or even realizing it in time. I never threatened her, I never saw her either, I swear" she cried
- "I know this darling, I don't trust anyone on this earth as much as trust you. Even if you had met her I know you wouldn't have done anything like that. And guess what? I also know who did it"
- "Who?" she uncovered her face to look at him
- "The same person who planned the shooting: Patricia. That bitch!"
- "Don't say that Blake, we don't know it for sure"
- "It's all connected Julie: the article, the interviews and even the shooting. I'm afraid they were not aimed at me. The day I went to take my things she talked very ambiguously about something I had, we had, to wait for. I didn't notice how much knowledge she had in the industry"
- "You mean she won't give up until she sees me broken or ..."
- "I'm afraid so"
- "So it is my ruin" she realized terrified
- "No. It's hers. We are going to report her and win the case"
- "Don't you think it will create us other trouble?"
- "I won't let her get away after what she did to you, she has to pay the consequences".
It was decided and eventually they did report Patricia and made everything clear.
Fortunately things started to improve already one week later: after discovering the truth, journals realized the terrible mistake they had done and of course apologized to Julie and did their best to resolve the situation. Not a bad word about Julie was anymore wrote on periodicals, and she felt incredibly relieved.
Author's Note: I hope you liked this chapter, even though it's one of the saddest I've written. It has been so painful to even imagine that scenery to Julie and even more so with the awarness that something like this couldn't have happened in real life even though many have tried. That being just to appreciate once more how she really cares about people and doesn't use things to make people speak about her for gossip's sake. Anyways, stay tuned for the next chaper, there might be an interesting turning point. See you all soon!
