Chapter 9:

As the week dredged on Michael tried to be on his best behavior, but still earned the occasional swat from Linc on the job site. He thankfully didn't do it in front of anyone and by Friday Michael's butt had fully healed from his last belting. This morning though when he woke up, he just felt this anger inside his chest that he couldn't shake. He quickly got dressed in his blue jeans and a white t-shirt. He could hear Linc rattling around in the kitchen, and it made him even more pissed off. He closed his dresser drawer and walked to the bathroom slamming the door. It rattled the thin wall, and Mike shrugged sticking his toothbrush in his mouth. His hair was growing in again, thick and coarse with a little wave. Mike ran a little gel in it, to keep it tamed and smiled because Kim liked it this way.

He'd seen her every day this week at the taco truck and he really liked her. She was super sweet and not afraid to be herself. "Mike," Linc called for him and he immediately rolled his eyes. "What?!" He yelled back frustrated as he flossed his teeth. He heard Linc's heavy footsteps coming to the bathroom and suddenly the door opened. Mike threw away his floss staring at his brother who looked irritated, "What's the deal with the attitude? It's too damn early and when I call your ass, you come. Got it?" Michael tried not to but failed, rolling his eyes at Linc. "Yeah, yeah." He answered walking past Linc and heading into the kitchen. Linc sighed and growled to himself because he didn't want to deal with a surly Michael.

As he went into the kitchen, he grabbed a hot mug of coffee adding the usual 5 spoons full of sugar with a touch of cream. Linc came into the kitchen a couple of minutes later, "What the hell was that?" As Mike sat down, he looked up at Linc with his mug perched at his lips, "Nothing." He shrugged drinking the hot liquid down and looked at the table, was it always this brown? As Linc glared at Michael, he looked different, maybe a little more confident. Whatever it was, he didn't like the fact his brother was disrespecting him and thinking he'd get away with it. Linc grabbed his own mug of coffee sitting across from Michael, just staring at his kid brother. The thing was, he wasn't so much a kid anymore with that dark stubble on his face.

No, Mike, was turning into a young man, and Linc understood that, but he didn't have to take the attitude his brother was dishing out. "Why are you staring at me Linc?" There was an edge to his voice and Linc cleared his throat. "Where's your notebook?" Michael kicked the chair beside him, and it scraped along the linoleum floor. Linc got up, finished off his coffee, and placed his mug in the sink. He tried not to overreact, "Where is it? Go get it." Michael slammed down his mug, "But Linc, we're going to be late to the job site…" He whined out. Linc walked out of the kitchen and grabbed Mike's backpack bringing it to him. "Michael." Linc's voice had an edge of warning in it and Mike grabbed the navy-blue backpack zipping it open.

He found the grey notebook and held it up so Linc could see, "Happy now?" Linc felt himself getting angrier and took a breath in, "You remember our deal at the beginning of the week?" Michael nodded his head and rolled his eyes, getting up and putting his coffee cup in the sink. "Yeah and?" He looked back at Linc who felt his face warming up with anger. "What was it?" Michael sighed heavily and tried to walk out of the kitchen. Linc caught his right arm, gripping it tightly at the elbow. "Answer me Mike, what was the deal?" Michael shrugged and for what felt like the hundredth time, rolled his eyes at Linc. This time though, Linc couldn't let this attitude slide, he gripped Michael's arm tighter and raised his hand high, delivering a searing swat over the seat of his jeans.

Surprised, Michael tried to dance away, but Linc became frustrated and leaned his brother over his right arm and kept swatting. It seemed ridiculous in the small kitchen, but Linc raised his hand high over and over again until he heard Michael sniffle. The heat on the seat of his jeans and the sting became too much and soon after 10 swats, Michael began to cry. As soon as Linc heard that, he let the kid up and turned him, so they were eye to eye. "I don't know what's going on with you today, but it stops here!" He held up his index finger to Michael's face. I've got to get to work and if you dare have this attitude there, I'll belt you so quick. I won't give a shit who's watching! Now, you have two minutes to explain what the fuck you're thinking this morning!" Linc's hot breath blew over Mike's face as he yelled.

Michael wiped his tears and snot on the front of his shirt hyperventilating out, "I, I, don't, I don't want a spanking." Linc tried not to laugh, because all the kid accomplished was getting an impromptu spanking in the kitchen. He knew though that these were just love taps compared to the spanking that was coming tonight though. He rubbed Michael's shoulder, "How'd that plan work out for you?" He scoffed. Michael cried harder, "I'm sorry Linc! I was just so angry when I woke up because it's so unfair! I've been pretty good all week, but I'm still getting a spanking." Lincoln knew his little brother was being sincere and pulled him into a quick hug. "I get it Mike I do, but we'll talk about it later. Go get your jacket and we're leaving in 10 minutes. You know what's expected of you today." Mike sighed, "But, but, what about the notebook? What about later?" Mike seemed frantic and Linc put his hand on his shoulder again, squeezing it gently. "I'm not going to lie to you, you're still getting the rest of your spanking later. The question is with what and how many, and that's up to you Mikey, and how you act today."

Mike sniffled and shook his head yes heading to grab his jacket. He came back into the kitchen and grabbed his backpack as Linc handed him a buttered piece of toast. They walked silently to the bus stop both reflecting on the morning's events. As the day slowly unfolded Michael looked forward to seeing Kim at the taco truck if she showed up today. Linc walked up to Mike at Jose's work truck, "We're not going to the taco truck today, Jose's wife made us tamales for lunch, so we'll stay here." Michael felt a scowl on his face and before he could help himself, he slammed Jose's truck door closed with all his strength. it created a loud boom effect that everyone heard. Linc looked at him with a death glare, as Jose laughed at the scene unfolding in front of him...
