Chapter 3: Worry, School And Health Check

-With Susumu-

The limousine arrived couple hundreds of meters away from the front door. Susumu could see his father at door with furious expression as he stepped out of the car. They looked at each other quietly as limousine drove away and into park next to the mansion. Susumu's mother was standing behind his father with worried look. She clearly knew what was going to happen.

As Susumu stepped inside his arm was grabbed tightly and he was pushed against the wall. Mother closed the front door in the meantime.

'Where the hell have you been?!' father cursed. Susumu could hear hatred in his voice and kept staring at him with blank expression. Father began to twist his arm backwards painfully and Susumu gritted his teeth. What he had learned was not to ever show pain in front of his so-called father. On the side he could see his younger brother hiding behind the wall.

'Answer!' father yelled again.

'Walking,' Susumu replied quickly with steady voice. To that father let go of his arm but grabbed his neck with one hand and kept him stuck against the wall. Susumu could feel him tightening his hold and preventing him from getting oxygen. Susumu kept his hands on the side and just allowed the suffocation with no emotion. Everyone did hear small gasping from Susumu though.

Soon his mother decided to speak up carefully, 'Please dear, calm down.' Father glanced at her and back to Susumu. His son had slightly red face and eyes had closed. He growled and threw Susumu on the other side of the room wall. Susumu fell and hit his head against the wall hard.

'We are leaving tomorrow to home Russia. Like it or not,' father stated and stormed out of the room, 'Get him into his room and pack his bags!' he added yelling before disappearing. The butler was very loyal to Voltaire Hiwatari and did easily what he was told. He grabbed Susumu by his arm, dragged him up to his room and pushed him against the bed. At the same time other servants began to pack his stuff right there.

Susumu sat up and touched his neck slightly with two fingers as his mother came in.

'Where you were? Really?' she asked with quiet tone.

'Nowhere,' Susumu gritted his teeth. He wanted to be alone and talk to no one. Sighing his mother left with sad expression and headed back downstairs.

-Next Monday With Bruce-

Susumu had thought about Susumu all night but managed to forget him next morning. Bruce ran to school on wet ground since it had rained all night. The morning was also colder than before, and Bruce had warmer jacket on. At school Shin, Judy, Taro and Frank had also their jackets on. Inside he stepped in the classroom and Susumu's desk was empty again. Apparently, he wasn't going to come to school this week either. Bruce had thought of going to his house to pick him up, but they had promised not to go there again.

After the classed that felt longer than before, Shin and Judy had come to their class after their own classes had ended. They went to the teacher and asked about Susumu.

'Do you know where Susumu Hiwatari is or why he didn't come to school?' Bruce asked. teacher watched their concerned expressions and started to exam the papers on the desk.

'His father sent a message that they are leaving for a trip. I don't the destination, but they won't be back for a while,' teacher answered with small smile. Bruce nodded and they left outside without saying anything else.

Judy stretched her arms up, 'Now we can concentrate on studying. See you later,' with that she headed home. Everyone did the same thing and left the school grounds and go do homework. Bruce wanted to also concentrate on studying and get better grades than previous years. Primary hadn't gone as well as he had wanted, and he decided to do better.

-After Two Weeks In Russia-

It had been snowed a lot and people were walking outside with big and warm looking clothes. No one was outside with light clothes, and they were still freezing. Buildings around them were made out of dark red bricks and heavy stern stone. It looked beautiful during the wintertime too but behind the gorgeous city in the middle of woods stood more darker building out of sight. So outside of sight that only Voltaire and his family knew that the building was even there.

Inside a dark cell looking room Susumu stared at the bars with empty eyes. His hands were chained above his head against the wall and legs chained together against the floor. He sat there without moving and breathed calmly. Red rashes covered his wrists, ankles and not to mention bloody whip marks all over his torso. His so-called father had been in vey foul mood and it showed through the entire time they had been in Russia.

The bar door opened, and woman came inside, Susumu's mother Faith. She saw her son with blood covering his skin, his jacket and shirt on the ground next to him. She gazed at Susumu's blank eyes with sadness. She walked forward and kneeled down.

'Voltaire told us to go home now,' she said quietly. Susumu didn't say anything and allowed his hands to fall down when Faith opened the locks. After helping him up Faith picked up the clothes and they headed outside to clean up and leave towards the airport.

-Back In Japan With Bruce Three Days Later-

The first testing had begun in Japan's schools and the very first time Bruce felt like he knew answers this time. Did Frank and Judy feel this feeling when answering tests? They must have felt like this since they both were smart. Day's tests were over at 12 pm and everyone were heading towards the dining hall. Bruce, Frank, Shin, Judy and Taro were sitting together.

'How the test went?' Shin smiled.

Bruce replied back with excitement, 'I think quite well. I'm happy with my answers.' Others looked happy as they saw Bruce happy like a small lamb.

After eating Shin stood up, 'This is why I like test days because we can go home after tests are done for the day.'

'Are you going to meat with Mr. Dickenson today?' Taro asked and Shin nodded while taking his plate.

'Can I come too? Parents aren't at home today until late in the evening,' Bruce asked after thinking about what he would do the rest of the day.

'I'm not sure you can but can you go to anyone else?' Shin apologized.

Frank smiled and tapped Bruce on the shoulder, 'Do you want to come to my house? I have a new video game.' Bruce got even more excited and didn't hesitate to agree. They asked Judy to come too, and she agreed which surprised others slightly. In the end Shin and Taro headed to BBA building and others went to Frank's place.

Frank's home was a small house for three people, and after they arrived the headed straight upstairs into Frank's room where Bruce begun to beat everyone in the new race game.

'I won again!' Bruce shouted and jumped up.

'Not fair. You must have played this before,' Frank protested. Judy laughed and continued drinking her lemonade. They played new rounds for couple of hours when there was a knock on the door, and Shin came inside with Taro along with him too.

'Well, this is a surprise. Why are you here?' Judy asked puzzled.

'Our work ended there, and we decided to come to you guys and have some fun too. Hopefully, it's not a problem,' Taro answered with a wink towards Judy.

'Of course not,' Judy turned her quickly away. There was a hint of pink on her face, but she managed to hide it very well.

'By the way Bruce,' Shin started, 'Mr. Dickenson informed us that Susumu and his parents went to Russia. And before you ask how he knows that, he said that since BBA does business in Russia they saw Hiwatari family in the airport while doing business with other people or something. But the entire family apparently stayed somewhere outside of the town since no one saw them there,' Shin finished, and anyone could see a worried look on his face.

'Why do you look so worried? It's not our business,' Judy asked.

'Yes, but I've known him a longer than you have, and I am worried about him,' Shin sat down on the floor and Taro did also.

'Do you know when they return home?' Bruce asked.

'I don't know. They might be back or not. Mr. Dickenson didn't know,' Shin said back with a shrug. Bruce stood up and headed towards the door.

'You're not actually thinking of going to Susumu's house or something?' Judy was clearly little annoyed for some reason.

'Of course not. I'm just going home to sleep. Maybe time goes faster then,' Bruce stated.

'You're really a weirdo,' Judy snorted. Bruce showed her a tongue before leaving and closing the door behind him.

'Maybe Susumu comes to school tomorrow,' Frank wondered.

'That would be something,' Taro joked and excused himself too. Outside Shin watched Judy's back while she was walking home and pondered what her problem was with Susumu.

-Next Day With Susumu At Home-

Even though Voltaire had stayed in Russia, he was able to control everything what happened in Japan or anywhere else in the world. And how he was able to do that? The short answer, loyal followers, workers, minions or whatever you want to call them. Susumu was sitting on the bed back home with hurt torso. He didn't know where his mother was, and he didn't care.

Susumu sighed and glanced at his backpack recalling his first meeting with Shin in years. He had gotten himself weird new friends again. He turned his eyes towards the clock, and it showed 7:45 am. He would be late but even school might be better than this place.

Without second thought he grabbed his backpack and slowly opened the door of his room. Stepping out he walked with quiet steps downstairs, past servants, past his mother in the living room and outside. If she is smart, she would know where he went just by looking at his room.

It took him a while seeing how slowly he walked but he eventually arrived at school front gates. He had missed the first class but went to next one. While standing outside of the classroom he could hear teacher calling out names and apparently two of those Shin's friends were on his classmates. As his name was called out Susumu opened the door and got shocked looks from every student at least. Teacher was clearly surprised, but it went unnoticed by students.

'Morning Susumu. You can take your seat for now,' teacher instructed. Susumu knew Shin's friends were watching him, but he ignored it and went to sit down. Teacher began the class and gave different tasks couple of times. Susumu recalled why he hated being in school, but it was better than at home if he could call it that. In the end he closed his eyes and went to in his own thoughts.

After a while teacher brought him back with bad news for Susumu anyway, 'Now, as you know we have the yearly health check for everyone which starts now.' Susumu opened his eyes and glanced at other students who were either happy or annoyed.

'Here is your paper,' teacher put a small information paper on Susumu's desk, 'You can fill the paper while other students go to the nurse first.' Susumu acknowledged the teacher simply with a nod and looked at the paper. There were simple questions about his basic information, school identification and what he thought about his own health.

Susumu winced slightly when he recalled his scared torso and tried thought of a way out of this health check. Teacher was standing in front of the classroom again and was checking a paper on the front desk.

'First students to go are Katherine from the classroom next to us, second is Mathew, third is Ken and Judy. After that is from your class, Frank, Bruce, Sara and Susumu is the last one for the day. Tomorrow new group goes. You can go now,' teacher dismissed everyone. Students began to leave in big groups and headed to the big hall in the middle of school. Susumu stayed seated and kept his eyes on the empty health information paper.

Susumu stood up and left the classroom also in a hurry while cursing his father in his mind. He did hear Bruce call out to him but ignored him and everyone else. He wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone. It started to already to already look like a mistake to come to school in the first place.

After third class and just before school dinner was about to start it was his turn to go there. He hadn't still filled the paper. Susumu had grabbed his backpack and intended to leave school grounds early, teacher caught him.

'I've noticed that you're late from the health check and apparently trying to leave. It's very basic and nothing hurts there,' teacher said very tern voice. Susumu sighed and was forced to go there in the end. He did walk past Bruce and others. They had already formed a group of friends who would meet everywhere.

'Wait a minute,' Bruce grabbed Susumu's arm, but it was pulled away.

'Don't touch me! What do you want?' Susumu growled.

'Don't be a jerk dude. I was just going to suggest that you can come sit with us after you're done with the health check,' Bruce said annoyed.

'You do that, I'll sit somewhere else,' Judy said sarcastically but it sounded too real.

'Judy,' Shin spoke and poked Judy on the side.

'Forget it,' with that Susumu walked away.

'You aren't his friend, are you Shin?' Bruce asked.

'No. Just classmates but why do you ask that?' Shin wondered.

'He's a big jerk,' Bruce sighed annoyed.

'Did you just notice that?' Taro chuckled, 'You seem different than yesterday.'

'I agree with Taro there. You seemed to be worried about him yesterday and now you turned full one-eighty,' Frank said.

'I know but I'm not one to give up. Anyway, let's go eat,' Bruce left running towards the dining hall.

'If you ask me, leave Susumu alone. He's just annoying and thinks he's the best,' Judy followed Bruce along with Taro and Frank. Shin sighed and decided to follow them. It wasn't like he could do anything.

-At The Nurse's Office With Susumu-

Susumu was standing in front of the office's door, and he didn't even knock on the door. He didn't want to go in for so many reasons, but it would be no use to prevent this. He was simply too tired to deal with everything and just wanted to be left alone.

Then the door in front of him opened, 'Hello. You must be Susumu Hiwatari. Come on in since we may take longer than others. You have missed health checks more than once,' woman explained smiling. Susumu stepped in and walked inside near the table but stayed standing.

'How have you been doing?' nurse asked and waited for an answer. She noticed cold and scary look in Susumu's eyes and decided to stop waiting for a reply.

'Reveal your arm so we can take your blood pressure first,' nurse asked. Carefully Susumu took his jacket off gritting his teeth since it hurt to move too much but he managed to take his jacket off. Unlike many other schools this school gave school outfits but allowed students wear their own clothes too. As woman took his blood pressure Susumu kept his eyes closed and began to think about something else, anything else then the current situation.

'We are almost done. Couple of last things and I need you to take your shirt off or at least lift it,' woman asked, and Susumu clenched his hand into fists. Nurse was confused and stepped closer.

'Is there some kind of problem?' nurse asked and placed her hand on Susumu's shoulder, but it was appreciated. Susumu pushed her off and moved forward but it revealed his back slightly. Unfortunately for him, nurse seemed to notice something.

'What was that? I'll need to ask you to show me your back,' nurse persisted. Susumu turned his head around and kept glaring at the woman. He hated to admit it but this is what he was afraid off.

There might be trouble or not. Who knows? ;)
