Together

Chapter 11

Christine quickly found a job that she absolutely loved and Mike quit his job and began the academy, which made him the black sheep of his family, but she didn't care. Grandma Hannah was the only one that still came around, and Christine knew that she was helping Mike a bit with their finances since he couldn't work. It made things hectic and sometimes the only time Christine and Mike saw each other was in passing, but she finally had accomplished a weekend off, about a month before the end of his training.

"I am so glad to be off this weekend. What do you want to do?" Christine asked as she fixed dinner.

"Stay in and catch up on sleep." Mike said as he took his gear off.

"That sounds nice." Christine agreed. She plated his spaghetti, salad and bread, and then got her own. She wanted to broach having a baby now that his training was nearly complete. They had been married just over a year and it might shut the families up, and she really wanted to be a mother.

"Spaghetti sauce is good. Did Grammy help you?" Mike asked as he began eating.

"Its her recipe but I did it on my own." Christine answered.

"Good. Its delicious. I got ice cream on my way home." Mike said. He was usually in charge of their desserts, due to his sweet tooth.

"I saw that. I also made cannoli's so that'll be good together." Christine said.

"Good." Mike said simply before taking a drink of his beer. Christine decided to finally voice her desire to start trying for a baby.

"Mike; since you are almost done with the Academy, do you think we can start trying for a baby? I know you wanted us in a bigger apartment first, but we can make do." Christine asked.

"I was actually thinking about that too. I just thought you liked your job." Mike remarked.

"I could still work for a while. Maybe even up to the baby coming. Once he or she arrives, it would be hard because I'm sure our schedules will be different." Christine suggested.

"Yeah. Look, I'm good with trying, but I also kind of like it being just you and I." Mike remarked.

"Me too and I may not get pregnant immediately." Christine said and Mike smirked.

"It wouldn't be for lack of trying." Mike teased. She only grinned in response. Their marriage was less than perfect, because while they cared very deeply for each other, they weren't in love. The one thing that they did right was sex, but Christine suspected it would be even better once they loved one another. She just wondered how to fall in love.
