Together
Chapter 23
They quickly settled into the house in Annapolis. It was not fancy, but it kept them together. Christine's pregnancy had progressed and while Mike was gone throughout the week, he was home on the weekends and when she went into labor; Mike was with her. It was a long and painful labor, and Christine had hoped to give Mike a son, but the baby girl she put in his arms was beautiful and he didn't seem to mind. As Mike held her, he smiled over at Christine.
"I'm sorry, Mike. I know you were hoping for a boy." Christine told him.
"You have nothing to be sorry for. She's perfect." Mike said.
"We need a name for her." Christine remarked as she watched Mike.
"Would you be opposed to naming her after Grammy?" Mike asked. He brought her closer and sat down next to Christine on the bed.
"I think Hannah would be a good name." Christine said with a smile. Since he had suggested it, Christine couldn't think of a better name for the baby.
"Hannah Christine." Mike said and Christine shook her head.
"Not my name." Christine objected but Mike nodded.
"You worked so hard to get her here. You deserve to be honored." Mike told her. He gave her a kiss before handing Hannah over to nurse. The baby latched on, but didn't let go of Mike's finger.
"Maybe the next one will come easier and will be a boy." Christine said.
"Why do you think I am so unhappy with girls? I really don't mind them at all. I may think differently when it comes to boyfriends and mini skirts, but this isn't so bad." Mike asked.
"I guess it goes back to my dad. He was never happy that I was a girl and always wished I had been a boy. Even my name is proof of that." Christine answered.
"Christine?" Mike asked.
"Instead of the name Christopher. My grandfather's name. He and my mom were so disappointed that they left me in the nursery. My grandmother named me, but it made my parent's mad because if they had had a boy, they didn't feel they could name him Christopher. As it turned out; I was their only child." Christine explained.
"I see. That's why you didn't want the baby's middle name to be Christine." Mike commented.
"Exactly. How about…d Elizabeth? My grandmother's name?" Christine asked.
"Works for me." Mike agreed before giving Christine a long kiss. They spent the rest of the night cuddling and loving on Hannah. She had Christine's dark hair and Mike's blue eyes, but that could change. She was a pretty baby with a head full of the dark hair and dimples. Mike and Christine were completely entranced with her and she was completely healthy, thankfully.
