Chapter 5: Backfired Plans

"How do our plans look?" Asked the head of the evil mages.

"Well, the plans are good, sir, but we can't seem to draw support from the towns surrounding the mountain," another mage said. "You would have thought after that 'attack', they would have come flocking to us."

"Hmm, could they be more resilient?" The leader pondered. "Or is there something we don't know about?"

"We have scouts searching the area, sir," said a female mage. "Hopefully they will have some word for us soon."

"Until then, why not let our little pet go have some more fun?" He said. "Perhaps the people need a little more...persuasion."

"Yes, sir."

The leader of the evil mages went down to see how their monster was doing and they saw he was eating ravenously as some of the mages fed him. "How are his vitals?" He asked.

"Staying steady, sir," said one of them. "Do you need him to go on another rampage?"

"Yes," he said. "We need to gather support if our plan is to work."

"Why are the people resisting?" Another mage asked. "They saw the damage our monster did."

"I don't know," the leader said. "But hopefully we'll have some answers soon."

He then walked up to the creature, who glared at him. "Soon, you can go play and make the people flock to us," he said in mock-caring voice. "You will, won't you, my pet?"

The monster snarled quietly and the leader left, to which the evil mages let the monster out. "Go! Make them run to us!" One of them said.

But to their utter shock, instead of going outside, the monster turned to them and roared loudly before leaping over them and destroying everything it could get its claws on. "Look out!" Someone called out urgently.

The monster roared and wildly swung out, knocking into equipment and breaking it in its mad run, even running into the labs and destroying beakers full of liquid. "Hey!" One of the scientists said angrily before he was roared at and forced to sit back as the monster destroyed all the beakers.

"Stop it!" Someone called out.

It took a lot of time and maneuvering, but they finally got the monster back into the cage and reinforced it with their magic, to which the monster slammed into the walls, making it hard for the mages to concentrate and also giving them all headaches. The leader came out and he looked shocked.

"What is going on out here?!" He asked.

"Sir! It's out of control!" Someone said.

Angry, the evil leader raised his hands. "All this damage you have done and make, now this is your punishment to take!" He said, his magic zapping around the monster's neck and making it screech as it tried to get away, but the magic shocked him like a shock collar, making him cry out and whimper before he settled in a corner of the cage, being quiet as the leader came forward.

"You think you can do as you please?" He roared at the monster. "You do nothing without my command!" He raised his hands again. "Obedience, a good thing to have and keep, disobey me again and you will forever sleep!"

A shock ran through the monster and it cried out in pain, its cries seeming to echo in the building.

Deep in the Underground, Rebecca let out a scream as she woke up suddenly at hearing the pained cry. Her magic sparked up instantly, coming off with a slightly sour smell due to her being awoken so rudely. Papyrus turned over and quickly grabbed his wife in a hug, his orange magic coming out to soothe her. Kano came in too and ran up to his masters. "Master, what is it?" He asked.

The dark-haired mage took some deep breaths, holding onto her husband as her magic began to calm down. She then noticed it was five in the morning. "I have to talk to Asgore," she said.

"But Master, you just awoke from a fright," Kano said.

"He's right, my love," Papyrus said.

She shook her head. "It can't wait," she said, getting up and quickly going behind the changing curtain to get dressed. "Kano, please go awake Gaster. Tell him it's an emergency."

"Yes, Master," the puppet said, heading out at once. He came to Gaster and Alessia's room and listened a moment before opening the door quietly, tiptoeing so that he didn't accidentally awaken Alina, who was sleeping soundly in her bassinet. He approached Gaster's side of the bed and gently shook his shoulder. "Gaster. Gaster, my master needs you. It's an emergency," he said in an urgent whisper.

Gaster groaned as he woke up before looking to see it was Kano. "Kano? What is the meaning of this?" He asked a bit grumpily.

"I'm sorry, Gaster, but my master is requesting you meet with her," the puppet said. "She woke up from a dream and she says she needs to see Asgore. I think she might have had a vision of sorts."

That woke up the elder skeleton and he quickly went and got dressed. Alessia woke up and stretched and then Alina woke up, surprisingly not crying as Kano went to check on her. "Hey, Alina," he said softly to her.

The little girl, who was about three months old due to the magic keeping her young for so long, gave him a smile and Alessia stood up. "Kano, can you unswaddle her and bring her to me?" She asked.

"Sure," he said, doing so and watching the baby stretch her limbs. "Hey, kiddo. Bet that feels good, huh?" He asked, wiggling his fingers gently into the baby's stomach, to which she gave him a grin before he carefully lifted her up into his arms. "Come on, sweetie. Time to go see Mommy."

Alessia watched as Kano carefully brought the baby over to her. "You're really good with kids," she said.

He looked bashful. "Thanks," he said, gently handing the baby to her before he went to get a bottle of milk for the baby, warming it up and then returning, much to Alessia's gratitude as she thanked him and fed her daughter.

Gaster came out fully dressed and gave his wife a loving kiss before kissing his daughter's forehead. "I'll be back soon," he promised before he headed out. "Kano, help my wife with anything she'll need, please?"

"Yes, sir," the puppet said.

Rebecca had headed out and was at the castle when Gaster caught up to her. "Rebecca, what is it?" He asked. "Kano said you might have had a vision."

She nodded. "And it's one that is scaring me a bit," she admitted. "Come on. We have to talk to Asgore." She paused. "I just hope he'll forgive me for calling such an early meeting."

They went in and found Asgore was already in the throne room with Undyne and Alphys there too and all three looked worried. The king, seeing the head scientist and mage, looked troubled. "You heard it too?" He asked.

"Something's not right," Rebecca told him. "I had a dream that the monster was loose and there was nothing the evil mages could do. They lost control over it." She paused and then it hit her. "That's why."

"Why what?" Undyne asked.

The dark-haired mage looked at her. "They can't control their monster for much longer," she said. "It's going to get free and not listen to them after a bit."

"Do you think it can break the barrier?" Asgore asked.

"No," Rebecca said. "It's not strong enough for that, but it can cause other things."

Alphys looked at her devices curiously. "I-If the mon-monster is l-looking for f-freedom, maybe we can free it," she stammered out a little.

"I don't know if we could, Alphys," Gaster said gently.

"Yeah," Undyne agreed. "If this monster looks as bad in person as he is in Rebecca's dream, we don't want that thing loose in the Underground."

Rebecca thought for a moment. "Your idea is a good one, Alphys, but I'm afraid it's very risky," she said gently. "If the monster is seeking to escape the evil mages, he may not listen to someone who doesn't mean him harm.

"What can we do then?" Asgore asked.

The mage looked thoughtful again. "I'm going to have to consult my books," she said. "Maybe something my teachers taught me will help in this situation."

Gaster nodded before a yawn escaped him. "If I may suggest, my dear sister, we get some more sleep before you do that," he said.

"But Gaster...," she began, only to have a magical hand gently cover her mouth.

"But nothing, my dear sister," he gently scolded. "I know for a fact that you are still exhausted from that dream and you did have Kano wake me up."

She looked defeated, but he hugged her. "Trust me, my dear, you'll be able to focus on your books better and find a solution on a mind that is well rested and not struggling to stay awake," he said gently.

"He's right, Rebecca," Asgore said, his tone also gentle. "Not as your superior, but as your friend, I insist you get some more sleep."

She couldn't argue that and nodded, to which Gaster scooped her up and carried her back home. She didn't protest as he brought her back to bed as it was only about seven o'clock right then. Papyrus wrapped his arms around his wife and settled down as she fell asleep and Gaster went to his wife and child, settling down and falling asleep too.

Little did they know, they were about to learn something that they never saw coming.

Hmm. What could it be? :)
