Chapter 9: A Call For Help

Rebecca sighed as she got her satchel ready and put on her warmest cloak as it was getting colder up on the Surface with winter coming soon. She took a deep breath, worried at what she'd find and worried that she might not make it back.

"Aunty Rebecca?" Came a voice and she turned to see it was Julie, who looked worried.

"I'm alright, sweetie," she said. "Just...worried about my quest, that's all."

"Maybe there's a way we can help," David said before closing his eyes and the orange heart representing his main trait appeared in front of him. Julie followed her brother's lead and a yellow heart joined the orange heart. Carmen came in, along with Nathan, and Sarah, a green, purple, and blue heart soon joining the other two. Thomas and Frisk came in and soon, seven hearts, each with one of the traits, appeared before Rebecca and she felt a wave of calmness come over here.

Esther came in then too with Kano, Chara, and Asriel and the little girl closed her eyes, her own seven-colored heart appearing, along with Chara's red heart and Asriel's upside-down white one. Taking a deep breath, Rebecca gently touched all ten hearts, the children trusting her before the hearts melded back into their chests. The mage smiled. "Thank you, children," she said. "You kids really are the reason for us to keep holding onto hope."

They all hugged her. "Be careful out there, Aunty," Frisk said.

"Come back safe to us," Chara begged her.

"I will," she promised, hugging them all.

The adults all hugged her, wishing her safe journey while Papyrus kissed her deeply. "Come home soon, love," he said.

"I'll do my best not be gone for too long," she promised.

Hannah hugged her too. "Be careful, sis," she said.

"I will," Rebecca promised.

Asgore walked her up to the barrier and he placed his paws on her shoulders. "Good luck, Rebecca. We'll see you soon," he said. "Go with my blessing."

She bowed before him. "I'll return as soon as I can," she said before crossing the barrier, feeling the magic and her own magic against her before she didn't feel the magic anymore and began her journey, not knowing that she'd soon find what she was seeking.

Deep in the woods, the monster cried out as the evil mages had been torturing it with their mind links and it wanted them to stop. It had broken free of them and wanted to be left alone. Rebecca, who wasn't too far away, jumped with a start at hearing the roar and moved towards it fast, soon catching sight of the very monster she had seen in her dreams. "Oh, my," she said as she heard it roar again, but it sounded like a roar of agony. She stepped out of her hiding spot and the monster turned to her and roared at her, but to her shock, the mage heard something else.

Something that sounded like a child's cry.

Holding up one hand, she focused her magic and at the very center of the monster, where the upside-down white heart was, she sensed a small creature, one that was many times smaller than the monster. And the white heart was badly cracked, which worried her because it looked like the monster was just about ready to lie down and possibly dust.

Rebecca took a deep breath and approached the monster, who looked at her with fear and anger. "It's okay," she soothed. "I'm not one the evil mages. I'm from the mountain. I'm here to help."

With that, she let her magic flow around her and the monster smelled the sweet scent of her magic. Drawn to it, the monster calmed down and drew nearer to the mage, looking at her with eyes that looked to be wet with tears. "Please...make them stop," it pleaded in a tired, pain-filled voice. "Please...it hurts."

"Okay," she said soothingly. "I'm not sure what I can do, but I'll do my best."

"Please...I just want to be free," it pleaded, the voice now sounding like a young male child.

"I know," Rebecca said, her voice still soothing as she focused her magic and drew closer, gently touching the place on the monster's chest where the white heart was as it was now visible. Closing her eyes, she began to speak again.

"Hate and anger were what created you,

But it is with love that I open my arms.

Focus on me, my voice, and my magic.

Because from this moment on, you are whole."

The monster breathed in the sweet scent of her magic and as he did so, he began shrinking, becoming smaller until all that was left in front of the mage was a young, very sickly Snow Drake on the verge of dusting. "Oh, little one," she said sympathetically. "Hold on. I'll try to heal you."

The young one shook his head. "It's too late," he said weakly. "They hurt me so much."

Rebecca felt tears sting her eyes as she checked his stats and found his HP to be very low and still dropping. "I'm so sorry they did this to you," she said. "This is not what I stand for."

"I know," the Snow Drake said.

"What is your name, little one?" She asked.

"Snow Mound," he said. "Because I loved to jump in them before...before I was taken away."

"Snow Mound," she repeated, swearing to herself that she would find his parents and tell them what happened to their son.

"You're the mage they talk about," Snow Mound said. "The one that loves monsters."

"I firmly believe monsters and humans can get along," Rebecca said. "The hatred has to stop."

He nodded before looking up. "Can...Can I ask you for something?" He asked.

"Of course, little one. Anything," she said, having a feeling it might be a final wish.

"Can you take me flying?" He asked. "I always dreamed that one day, I'd be able to fly up here on the surface."

Tears forming in her eyes, Rebecca nodded and gently picked him up, wrapping him in her cloak to keep him warm before she levitated into the sky as it started to snow. She kept an eye on Snow Mound as he reached out, feeling the wind on his wing and she smiled, continuing to fly around a bit before he gently tapped her arm, shivering a little.

Seeing this meant he was getting cold and that his HP had dropped farther, she descended to the ground carefully, making sure she didn't jostle her passenger as she lay him down on a rock, standing in front of him so that she shielded him from the cold wind. "Are you alright, Snow Mound?" She asked.

"I will be," he said. "Thank you again...Mage of Light."

Rebecca blinked, having never been called that before. The little one reached out to her and she gently took his hand before seeing him close his eyes and he slowly turned to dust before her very eyes, fading away from her sight as the wind carried his dust away from her. "Snow Mound!" She cried out, but she knew it was too late and she fell to her knees, weeping for the little one who she could not fully save, though he was now free from his tormentors.

Thinking about the evil mages that did this turned Rebecca's sorrow into fury. "They will pay for this," she said as she stood up and turned to go find the evil mages responsible for not only tormenting a child and forcing it to become a monster to do their bidding, but for also killing some of the good mages and for tearing apart the families in the Underground.

She marched on, blinded by anger, hearing nothing as she soon found the city and moved forward, her mind bent on revenge.

In case some of you are wondering, yes, the last part was inspired by the Disney film "Raya And The Last Dragon" where Raya goes to confront the one she felt was responsible for Sisu's death.

But it looks like Rebecca is going to settle the score. Can she be stopped? Find out in the next chapter.

And please leave a review, but no flames!
