Chapter 11: We Are Here
Rebecca and Kano hurried up the other side of the mountain. "Are you sure this is best?" The puppet asked.
"Yes," she said. "If we enter through the barrier, Snow Mound may not make it." She paused and held the young monster closer. "I thought I lost him once. I'm not about to do so again."
The puppet nodded and it wasn't long before they found the covered-up entrance to the mountain, one that Rebecca had sealed with her magic long ago. Now, she waved her staff and the magic parted to allow her, Snow Mound, and Kano to jump down into the mountain before it sealed again.
Landing safely on the ground, the mage and puppet began running while the Snow Drake clung to the mage. "Mage of Light, the evil mages are going to plan something big," the little one said. "They're going to storm the mountain. They've been gathering souls and they had just found their seventh soul when you arrived."
"Which means they've been killing people and stealing their main traits to try and force the barrier to fall," Rebecca said. "The barrier has been reinforced, but if they are trying to do that, they are really desperate to rid the mountain of monsters."
"Do you think the reinforcing will hold?" Kano asked.
"I hope so, Kano," the mage said. "As much as I want the barrier to come down and monsters to be free, I only want it if the evil mages are gone for good."
They soon came to the river and saw River Person's boat. He pulled up to them and he looked surprised at seeing the small child in Rebecca's arms. "Tra, la, la. A story true," the cloaked being said. "Mage of Light to save a child."
"What?" Kano asked.
"Yeah," Snow Mound said. "Miss Rebecca is the Mage of Light. The story is that a mage who felt monsters were good would join them and she did."
"I didn't know this story," Rebecca said.
"Story has been around for years," River Person hummed. "A Mage of Light to bring hope and others to show all could be family."
Kano smiled. "You did that, Master," he said to Rebecca. "Look at how the family has grown in the past years."
She smiled. "You're right," she said before she realized something. "Holy cow. I can't believe I forgot."
"Forgot what, miss?" Snow Mound asked.
"How we faced our enemies before," she said. "We all did it together, but this time, I went and faced them alone and nearly did something I would have regretted if Kano hadn't stopped me."
The puppet moved closer to her. "I knew you were upset, Master, and needed someone to remind you of what you stand for."
"And I'm glad you did," she said before looking somber. "You took a big risk grabbing my staff like that. The attack could have hit you."
"But it didn't because you didn't let it," he pointed out.
They soon arrived back at the castle and Rebecca went to pay the River Person, but he refused the payment. "You've done much for us," he said gently. "Now let me join in the fight."
She nodded and they headed up to the castle, finding the others gathered there and the kids ran up to them in worry. "Aunty Rebecca!" They cried out in unison.
"Are you okay?" Asriel asked.
"I am now," Rebecca said before revealing the Snow Drake in her cloak. Chara gasped in shock.
"Snow Mound!" She said happily.
"Princess Chara!" The young boy cried out as Rebecca kneeled down and allowed her niece to hug the boy, who winced a little. "Easy, I'm still hurt."
"What happened to him?" Asriel asked.
"The evil mages were breaking his soul and using it to create carbon copy monsters," the mage said, standing up and handing Snow Mound to Alphys, who took the boy to get him treated and stabilized. "And that's not all. They've been collecting souls too."
"The building they were in is destroyed, but if they have a backup plan, then it won't take long for them to come here to the mountain," Kano said. "Snow Mound said they plan to storm the mountain and destroy all monsters."
Sierra stood up. "We can't let that happen," she said, feeling her husband take her hand.
Alessia nodded as well, holding Alina while Gaster held them both in his arms. Toriel saw Rebecca looked worn out and she went up to her. "My dear, did you face those evil mages?" She asked gently.
The mage flinched, but nodded. "I was blinded by anger when I thought Snow Mound was truly gone," she said. "I lost control of my temper and of myself. Kano stopped me in time, but...I almost became like the very monsters I swore I never would become."
A warm hand rested on her shoulder and she turned to see Grillby was there behind her. "Grief can cause us to react without thinking," he said gently. "But please, Rebecca, don't scare us like that again."
He pulled her into a hug and she clung to him, tears filling her eyes as she appreciated his fatherly concern. "Oh, Rebecca," Muffet said gently, brushing a hand over the dark-haired mage's head soothingly.
Toriel placed a hand on the mage's shoulder, her hand glowing green to allow her healing magic to somewhat soothe the mage, who took a deep breath and soon gently pulled away from Grillby's hug, nodding. "Thank you," she said to them, sniffling a little.
Papyrus came up to her and also hugged her before gently handing her their two children. Both little ones hugged their mother and she hugged them back. "My little angels," she said softly. "Mommy loves you both so much."
The children gathered around her and Alphys came out, smiling. "Snow M-Mound will be o-okay," she said. "H-He just needs a l-little more t-time to rest."
"That's wonderful news," Hannah said softly.
"Yes, and we will inform his parents," Asgore said. "Also, I've been thinking about what these evil mages have done and I've come to a decision."
"What decision is that, Your Majesty?" Kano asked curiously.
"Enough is enough," the king said. "The evil mages will be dealt with then they arrive. We have taken them on before and we shall do so again."
"Daddy," Julie asked softly. "No one has to die, right?"
"We will strive for that, my little one," Asgore soothed her. "Though no one in this family or the Underground is going to die."
River Person stood tall and hugged Hannah. "They've hurt us all long enough," he said. "It's time to stop them once and for all."
"And we can," Carmen said. "Remember last time? We enforced the barrier and the evil mages' minds were wiped of their memories."
"This battle will be different," Rebecca said, looking at them all. "It's time to put a stop to the evil mages and it's not going to happen with us all trapped in here."
"What do you mean, Aunty?" David asked.
Hannah gasped. "You mean...you're going to go through with the plan?" She asked. "But...that would leave the mountain exposed."
"I have a plan for that," the dark-haired mage said. "Do you all trust me?"
Everyone nodded. "Okay," she said. "We're going to need everyone's help on this one, despite me not wanting the children involved."
"We can help?" Thomas asked hopefully.
"That you kids can," Rebecca said, standing taller and gripping her staff. "We will beat the evil mages together and keep this family alive and well and we will be free. All of us."
Gaster sighed thoughtfully. "To feel the sun again," he said before he gently touched his daughter's hand with one finger, feeling her squeeze his finger tight. "For Alina to play in the grass and sun without worries."
"It will be nice," Toriel said. "But...the mountain has been our home for so long."
"It will still be part of us," Sans said with a nod as he looked at Rebecca. "Cause something tells me whatever Becca's got planned is going to include the mountain."
"You know me too well, dear brother," Rebecca said with a smile. "We move as soon as we get the signal from the good mages."
"It should be coming soon," Hannah said.
"We'll be ready," Grillby said.
"More than ready," Asgore said, his trident coming to his hand.
The kids all nodded. "For our family and for all of us here in the Underground," Frisk said.
The others echoed the boy's statement and Rebecca took Papyrus' hand and he gently squeezed it, his magic mingling with hers as they all braced themselves for the final battle.
What does Rebecca have in mind? Stay tuned to find out. :)
And please leave a review, but no flames!
