Chapter 2 – Sacrifice

Lots of Drama today, hope you like it.

No one's POV

Hearing the worst of all possible news, that Tori was hurt and Beck under arrest, caused Jade to drop to her knees and scream.

Even after the scream was finished, Jade stayed on her knees. Half in shock, Jade could barely hear a middle-aged man from the next pump over, call out.

"Are you ok, Miss?"

It was only after he repeated the inquiry, did Jade look up, though her face had a rather dazed expression on it.

"Fine." Jade mumbled, as she mechanically grabbed her phone and got up. "Got some bad news."

The man said something else, but Jade didn't bother to listen, as she got in her car and started it up. Moments later, Jade was burning rubber out of the parking lot and turned back towards Los Angeles.

The first thing she did was to grab her phone and hit the number for Cat. After two rings, Jade could hear Cat's voice.

"Jade?" Said Cat, in a rather serious tone of voice.

"What happened?" Jade said, her voice full of panic.

"Where are you?"

"Never mind that. Tell me, what happened."

"Tori had gone over to Beck's trailer and told him you were pregnant. I'm not sure why. Perhaps she was trying to help. Then they went over to her place, expecting you to be there. I guess he was going to talk to you. But you were gone and it looked as if no one had even been there. Beck thought that Tori was fucking with him and you were never there. He got real angry and then he….."

Jade felt her cheek and realized she was crying. "What?"

"He back handed her, real hard. So much so, she fell backwards and her head struck the nightstand. She was bleeding and wouldn't wake up. He called 911, Tori's father and then Andre. He must have felt bad as he waited until the police and ambulance arrived. He told Andre he didn't mean to hurt her, he thought Tori was lying and lost his temper. The police arrested him for assault. "

Just knowing what happened was bad enough. Hearing the details, shook Jade so much, she momentarily lost control of her car. It was the screeching of tires and the sight of an oncoming truck that Jolted back to semi-reality "OH GOD!" Jade quickly struggled and regained control, moving back into her lane.

"Jade, what was that?"

"I lost control for a moment. Please tell me, how is Tori!" Pleaded Jade.

"They took her to Rampart General Hospital. They said she doesn't have a skull fracture, but has a real bad concussion. The doctors are still running tests."

"I'm coming, I'm coming right away. I'll be there as soon as I can."

"Jade." Cat said but with an odd hesitation in her voice. "I don't think you should come to the hospital."

"WHY!"

"Trina told, Tori's parents, Robbie and Andre everything. Tori's parents are really upset. It's not a good idea for you to be here. I'm sorry, but you need to stay away."

Of all the emotions that were surging through Jade at this moment, being told to stay away from, made Jade's blood boil.

"Who are you to tell me where to go" I'll go where I want." Not wanting to talk anymore, Jade hung up the phone and turned it off.

Still crying, Jade hit 80 and raced towards Tori as soon as fast as she could. With each passing second, a different emotion came to the surface. Each stronger than the last. There was Rage, Despair, Heartache, Shock and hundred others. Also, there was questions, mixed in with this emotional storm, what was consuming her very soul.

"Why did he hurt her?"

"Why do I always hurt her?"

Mile after mile passed and Jade could, feel her emotional state gradually turn into one of panic and fear. But there was nothing she could do about it, except drive. She cried of course and occasionally screamed.

She tried to focus on something else, a memory from High school, something to take the pain away. At least for a moment.

Flashback.

The dozen or so candles that lit Jade's room, left shadows all about. As they flickered, the shadows danced across the walls, reminding Jade of some ancient ritual. She glanced at the stereo which was playing one of her favorite songs, Sacrifice by London After Dark.

I'd sacrifice,
I'd sacrifice myself to you
Right here tonight
Because you know that I love you

The moment was made more perfect, by the fact that Tori was laying behind her. The Latina was slowly and tenderly caressing and kissing her naked back. After they had sex, Tori would frequently, just touch and kiss her body. The kisses were ever so soft and her hands would touch her skin, the way one would touch something, ever so fragile.

Darkness is all I want to see
I could never put in to words
What it is you mean to me

Tori had done it before, and each time Jade seemed to enjoy it more. And as she felt Tori gently kiss the small of her back, did Jade realize what Tori was doing, what she had been doing all along.

Tori wasn't making love to her, this was far beyond love, Tori was worshipping her very form.

I'd sacrifice myself to you

For a moment, Jade felt completely overwhelmed with emotion. Part of her wanted to turn around to face Tori. But she was afraid that if she did, somehow it would break the spell. For this was a perfect moment and Jade never wanted remain in it forever.

End flashback.

By the time Jade pulled in the parking lot of Rampart General Hospital, Jade was physically drained, feeling horrible and still a complete emotional wreck. But she needed to be with Tori. Walking towards the door, she could hear Cat's warning in her head.

"It's not a good idea for you to be here."

She checked at the front desk and within moments was heading up to the 3rd floor, where Tori's room was located.

Stepping off the elevator, Jade turned right. From looking at the room numbers on the wall, Jade realized that Tori's room would be up ahead on the right. With a purpose, Jade walked up the corridor.

As she neared Towards Tori's door, it opened and both Trina and Mr. Vega came out. Trina was the first to see Jade, with a look of murderous hatred forming in her eyes.

"You have no right to be here!" Snapped Trina.

Mr. Vega look at Jade an instant later, but in his eyes, was a look of cold rage.

Trying to ignore the chilly reception, Jade walked up to the pair. "How is she?"

Trina quickly shoved Jade back. "In the hospital, no thanks to you. Why don't you save yourself some time and run back to Beck now!"

Trina was about to shove Jade a second time when he was restrained by Mr. Vega. "Trina. Don't shove her."

He then turned his attention to Jade, that look of cold rage still very much present. In fact in the past few seconds, it had intensified.

"For the record. Tori has a concussion. A pretty bad one. She will recover. There is no apparent skull fracture. But there going to keep her a few days. Your husband is at the station on Glenwood. He should still be able to post bail tonight."

While the news was hopeful, the look she was getting from Mr. Vega was making her increasingly uncomfortable. "Can I see her?"

"NO!" Said Mr. Vega coldly, as he continued to stare her down.

For the umpteenth time this evening, Jade began to cry. "Why?"

"Trina told me and my wife everything. While I am disappointed in Tori, for sleeping with another person's girlfriend and eventual wife. I am furious that you would use my daughters' tender heart, over and over and over. First you bully her at Hollywood Arts and now this. She gets used, like a common streetwalker. And when you're bored of her, you toss her aside."

"NO! It's not like that." Jade sobbed.

Jade watched as that cold rage, suddenly began to turn hot. "All you've done since high school, is use my daughter, crushing her heart and spirit again and again. I will not have my daughter treated like that. From now on, you will have no contact with Tori, at all. Go back to Beck, divorce him, I don't care. But STAY WAY FROM TORI! And if I find out if you've tried to see or harass her in any way shape or form, I will have restraining order taken out against you. Now leave or I'll have you escorted out."

Before the shocked Jade could respond, Holly Vega came out of the room and without any hesitation at all, slapped Jade in the face.

Jade, who had walked into the hospital an emotional wreck, was now completely devastated. Had she been in more rational state of mind she may have realized that since Tori was over 18, only she could take out a restraining order. But Jade's mind, which was utterly reeling took his threat as real. In all this the conclusion was quite clear.

She would never be able to see or speak to Tori again.

Slowly Jade turned, and shuffled away, every ounce of her body felt numb. Mechanically she walked to the elevator and as Mr. Vega watched limply walked inside.

A few minutes later, Tori opened her eyes. As they adjusted, she realized she was in a hospital bed and she had a splitting headache. As she thought back, the last thing she remembered was Beck hitting her and a brief falling sensation. Looking around the room, she realized she was alone.

Much like Jade, she was hit by a rush of emotion. First Jade holds up in her bedroom, barely saying a word and then she takes off. She had tried to do the right thing by telling Beck and bringing him over. She got repaid with a backhanded blow and a trip to the hospital.

That combined with all the emotional turmoil since and before the wedding left her feeling somewhat bitter and to a certain extent betrayed. Her defenses and any sort of optimism had been almost completely worn down. As far as Beck was concerned, all she could feel for him now was contempt.

Though her headache seemed to intensify, the words, "I was never meant to" came skipping across her mind. That's what Tori remembered what Jade said when Beck asked if she loved her.

"Never meant to." Mused Tori as a feeling of despair began to fill her heart. "Doesn't mean I do. It just means I wasn't supposed to."

Before she had time to think any further, her mom came in and smiled as soon as she saw Tori awake.

"Tori, you're awake. I'm so glad." Holly Vega, said as she walked up and took Tori's hand.

"What happened. I know Beck hit me and I fell."

"You hit your head on the nightstand and you have a pretty bad concussion."

"Beck?"

"He said it was an accident and he acted remorseful. But I doubt it. He stayed until the ambulance and police arrived. They placed him under arrest."

Just then Tori could feel her spirits fall even further.

"Jade?"

Holly sighed. "Trina told us everything. You shouldn't have let her use you like that. First, she bullies you and then she uses you. I guessed you'd hoped she'd stay. But people like that, never stay. She did come, but we sent her away. I'm sorry but she's no good for you, not to mention she's married. You've clung to dream for such a long time. I know she always comes back and you fall back in love, but if you ask me, you need to just cut all ties with her. Then maybe you'll find a nice girl or even guy. One that respects you."

The despair in Tori's heart seemed to now overflow. While the thought of never seeing Jade again was unthinkable, Tori couldn't ignore the physical and mental pain she was in. Nor could she put up any kind of counter argument as her defenses were all but gone.

"Perhaps you're right" said Tori, letting the sound of defeat creep into her voice.

"Good."

"never meant to…." Thought Tori, feeling like the world was coming to an end. "I guess she never did."

The worst part of that thought, was Tori was really starting to believe it.

Jade, once on the ground floor, shuffled out of the hospital feeling, much like Tori, that the world was coming to an end. She couldn't even think anymore, she couldn't feel anymore.

Her phone ringing, brought Jade momentarily back to reality. Looking at the caller ID, she could see it was Beck.

Her utter despair, suddenly turning into Rage, Jade answered. the phone.

"WHY DID YOU HURT TORI!"

"I'M sorry Jade, I didn't mean to. I thought she was fucking with me. I just got out on bail. We need to talk….."

But Jade wasn't in the mood to talk, instead screaming. "BECAUSE OF YOU, I CAN NEVER SEE TORI AGAIN! NEVER!"

Beck said something in response, but Jade couldn't hear as she felt a sudden and very real stabbing pain in her abdomen. She had felt a cramp there ever since she first heard about Tori, but now it had intensified a 1000-fold. Looking down she could see blood, slowly dripping down her leg. The pain grew to blinding levels and right in front of the hospital, Jade collapsed.

Dr. Sharon Behlen, who had just finished an 18-hour shift happened to come out of the hospital in time to see Jade collapse. Rushing over, she quickly examined Jade.

"Miss, where does it hurt?"

"My abdomen, I'm pregnant. What…." Was all that Jade could mutter, before she passed out.

Dr. Behlen, then noticed the blood and knew what was happening. Just then she heard the automatic doors of the hospital a few yards away open up. Looking up, she could see one of the surgical nurses come out.

Dr. Behlen yelled to the nurse, before she could even react. "GET A STRETCHER OUT HERE SAT! THEN CALL Dr. Chavez in obstetrics and get her down here. Now MOVE!

The candle is burning low
At the window to my soul
The reaper is at my door now
He's come to take me home

I'd sacrifice,
I'd sacrifice myself to you

Pretty Heavy on the drama today. But as I saw it, the original story left off right before the main climax of the story. A lot of people have let their emotions run rampant and the result is clouded Judgment, snap decisions and all-around disaster.

The song that inspired this chapter is Sacrifice, by London After Midnight. Lyrics used without permission.
