Walters Childhood bedroom
Walter was exhausted. With his limited EQ in overdrive recently he had felt more and more drained. He was glad for once that he and Paige were in separate rooms- he could barely raise a smile right now let alone anything else and had excused himself to bed after theyd finished Dinner.
Tommorow they'd be catching a flight to Vietnam and during that trip he'd be asking Paige (the love of his life) to Marry him, It was all very overwhelming. He'd stuttered though asking Ralph's permission to Marry his Mother earlier and was proud of himself for not passing out in sheer relief when the young genius gave his consent.
Walter yawned as he pulled the covers over himself preparing to turn over and go to sleep. He was suprised when the door creaked open and a little figure quietly let himself in. He smiled as the young genius looked around in awe before taking and tucking Walter's old Teddy into his arms. Walter closed his eyes as Ralph climbed on top of the covers. Walter then wrapped an arm around the little boy in a fatherly hug.
Neither said a word as they both fell into a dreamless sleep.
The Next day
"Walter? Walter? It 11am you need to get up" Walter ignored the voice and curled around his pillow. Another voice spoke worriedly "He's always up about 5- 6ish I'm worried he might be unwell" "Walter Walter!?" The first voice got louder. "M s'okay sleepy sleepy time g'away shhh" Walter mumbled around the pillow.
Paige looked at Louise in concern. "I'm going to call Toby" she announced.
The Garage
Toby wasn't too concerned. When given all the facts he knew that Walter's brain was just overloaded with EQ that he wasn't used to displaying and processing. The poor man just needed to rest and reset. Toby was however nosey as hell and demanded all the information he could pry out of Paige.
Toby (now damn near bursting with all the new gossip) was suprised Walter had lasted as long as he did before his brain decided it needed a reboot. He advised Paige to pack for Walter so they were ready for their flight but was confident he'd be coherent by the time it came to leave the Farm to get to the airport.
Toby smiled when he thought of the first time he'd seen Walter in such a state. Walter had sleepily scolded Mark before telling him to 'shut his mouth siren' which resulted in the rarest and most beautiful sound Toby could ever hear-Happy's laughter. Mark was furious and didnt return to the garage for a few days- It was glorious.
Toby later found out that the reason for Walter's need to reset back then was because that was the first time Walter had ever seen Paige- he'd felt things for her he'd never felt for another person before, and also felt guilty (another unusual emotion back then) for bringing Janice to the diner regularly so he could spy on the pretty and nice waitress in the other side of the diner. Walter had scoffed at him when Toby had said it was love at first sight (after all why else would Walter have sabotaged the diner's WIFI?) but the more time went on the more he truly believed it.
Walter's childhood bedroom
Paige smiled fondly at her genius lover. He was starting to wake up but he was still rather out of it. It was a little like he was drunk-all dopey grins and mixed up sentences. Toby had told her it wouldn't last long, so she would enjoy this side of him while she could.
She was however somewhat relieved he'd be back to himself soon though- otherwise getting him through the airport and on the plane would be a nightmare!
On the plane
Ralph smiled as he watched his mum and Walter hold hands on the plane. They didn't even seem to think about it anymore. So in love that little things like that seemed natural now.
Things had been so awful when Tim was about- they'd often been snappy and short with each other. Too miserable apart but both unwilling to make the first move. Now they were together they were the happiest Ralph had ever seen either of them.
When Walter nervously approached Ralph asking for permission to Marry his Mother Ralph was suprised. Ralph knew that Walter was aware how much he wanted Walter to be his Father and he knew how much Walter loved his mother. Theyd already discussed Marriage before but Walter explained that he wanted to do everything right including asking the most important man in Paige's life for her hand. It made Ralph respect Walter more because he knew that's what his Mum would've wanted.
Then this morning his mother approached him about the possibility of his Mum and Walter trying for another child. Though he told his mum he'd be happy when he walked away he knew he should've been honest. Because at first he was confused-wasn't he enough? Then angry at the thought of being replaced.
But the more he thought about it throughout the day the more the idea appealed to him. There would be a high possibility of the child being normal- which worried him at first. But then he thought of Walter and Megan, the bond they shared and the things they taught each other. Megan was a normal who connected with Walter in ways that even his Mum couldn't.
He wanted that for himself. He wanted a Megan.
