It's time for the results as all performances are over. Kurt and Blaine join their respective teams, wishing good luck to each other.
They can hear the intense voice of the host. All are on their toes, feeling their fast-beating hearts. Kurt and Blaine keep eyeing each other, at least for some comfort. The host decides to announce the winner first.
' The winner of the Ohio Sectionals showchoir competition is...' ,the judge opens the envelope,' We have a tie here. it's theWILLIAM MCKINLEY HIGH SCHOOL'S NEW DIRECTIONS AND THE DALTON ACADEMY'S WARBLERRRRS!' The audience goes crazy clapping and cheering ,down the stage.
kurt finds him get squeezed among all the huggings, not that he hates them, he needs them in fact, but they are pricking and suffocating. Kurt just needs to run away from the crowd to get some air.
Just in time, He sees Blaine coming towards him . Blaine leans on kurt to give him an unexpected hug. Kurt feels the cold ,soft hands of Blaine sliding through his hands and locking together behind kurt's back. This isn't a usual friend's hug. Kurt is pretty sure. But, he weirdly finds this hug to be satisfying. Kurt,unintentionally puts his hands on Blaine's shoulders.
They don't leave each other for good 15 seconds. They seem to enjoy each other's embrace unintentionally, that the chaos around them seems to be unheard, the world has freezed in time.
'congratulations,Kurt! your amazing voice got appreciated today! See ,it wasn't awkward,was i right?' Blaine's face is glowing like a 1000 watts bulb after they separate from their surprise hug.
'Yeah,Blaine! it was the most surreal experience I've ever had. and oh, Congratulations to you too! it's weird that we are again competing against each other,' Kurt blushes.
Just then , Kurt remembers about his Brother. He makes sure that every good or bad news goes to Carson's ears immediately. Kurt excuses himself from Blaine, as he calls Carson.
Jane sees all the happenings there between Blaine and the other boy. She is there to cheer Blaine. Or at least, for her friend's invitation. Jane saw Blaine before the competition. Blaine knew Jane was there. But why did Blaine run to another boy?
She also notices the hug to be unusual,it doesn't feel like a friendly one.
Phone rings
Kurt: Hello Carson, can you hear me? it's kinda loud here
Carson: yeah i can hear you. What's bothering you now?
Kurt: do you remember that i was having a competition here?
Carson: what competition?
Kurt: Regionals dummy!
Carson: Oh shit! I forgot about that. How are you feeling? oh my god, I didn't attend to see my brother doing his first duet on a stage. How is it going?(Carson is freaking out there)
Kurt: Stop freaking out, Carson. We...we won.
Carson: sorry, what?
Kurt: We won, we are moving to Regionals.
Carson: Hell yeah. That's my boy. Good for them that they appreciate your talent. If they didn't, I would rip their faces and throw right on them. I am so happy for you Kurt.
Kurt, send me the performance tape if you can. I want to see your beautiful face, hear your beautiful voice.
Kurt: Yeah, sure. Carson, I miss you so much!
Carson: I miss you too,kurtie. I miss holding you. (Kurt's eyes water in brotherly love)
Kurt: Uh Carson... When are you coming to Lima?
Carson: uh wait, I'll check. I have booked my flight for November 19. I'll be there on nov..
Boom!
All Kurt heard after that is a sound. Like a huge bang. it was loud enough, that it temporarily deafened Kurt's ear.
Kurt: Hello?..hello, Carson?.. Carson, can you hear me?..hello?
Kurt starts to panic. Never had in any calls with Carson, did he face something like this. His heart starts to beat fast. He finds his left eye twitching and his stomach twisting in fear. He senses something wrong in the near future. He didn't want the worse to happen. He runs to the Parking lot without telling anybody. He doesn't feel like talking to anybody. He wants to find what happened. Kurt is over-protective of his brother as much as he can. And that is not an understatement.
He rashly drives to his home runs into his home and throws his bag on the sofa.
Burt: Hey kid! Congratulations! i Heard you guys won the competition.(Burt gets up from the sofa)
Burt sees a dread in Kurt's eyes, Kurt is whimpering under his breath.
Burt:Hey ,What happened?
Kurt:( he throws himself onto his dad for a comforting hug) D...dad, I called Carson after the result announcement and I sp...poke with him. All of the sudden, I he..heard a loud noise, and Carson didn't speak after . D..dad ,I am scared. I am trying to c...call him and he doesn't p...pick up. W...what if?
Burt doesn't like seeing Kurt in dread.
Burt: Hey listen Buddy. Nothing would have happened. Maybe he would have left for some urgent work.
Kurt: No dad,no,no,no..
Burt pulls the shivering Kurt with his hands on Kurt's shoulders and makes him sit on the couch ,like they're gonna have a sex talk.
Burt:Okay Kurt, relax. It's gonna be fine . Let me get you some water and i'll try calling Carson, fine?
Kurt nods in agreement, still shivering in dread. Burt tries for 2 -3 times while getting his some water and every calls ends up in voice mail. Every time Burt tries, Kurt gets all bad thoughts his mind.
Burt: He isn't taking. But hey, we'll try ,fine? he'll talk to you soon. Go ,refresh in your room and take a nap. Everything will be fine.
( Burt gives Kurt a tight hug and sends him to his bedroom).
All through the stairs climbing, going into his room, he let his body put him in auto-pilot mode, putting all his mind on, Carson.
He lied there for 2 hours ,whimpering and trying to call Carson for nearly 10 times. Nothing worked. He takes his phone and calls Mercedes .
Mercedes: Hey Kurt, where are you? i didn't see you in the school aft...(she hears his silent whimpering) What happened?
Kurt: I..i called Carson after the result. He was talking fine and suddenly He stopped talking af..after a long crashing sound.
Mercedes: Kurt, You're Over exaggerating . He wouldn't have got signal. He will be fine. Where are you?
Kurt: h...home.
Mercedes: I'll come there, don't worry. It will be fine.
Mercedes can't stand her best friend sounding so miserable. Burt comes in to give comfort to his son. Burt's face starts to show a fear and concern on Carson, Carson is also his son, what can he do? Burt focuses on comforting Kurt. Kurt just hears Burt saying that Carson isn't picking up his phone too,but not to worry.
How can Kurt be carefree? Carson is like his other half. The last thing he can expect is to lose Carson. He had already faced a loss of his dear one-His mom at his tender age. He didn't want the nightmare to come back, not again!
Kurt needs someone to hold him, to assure him that nothing can go wrong. His dad does that ,but he can't keep staying with kurt. The next thought that Kurt has is to call Blaine and speak. Kurt picks his phone to call ,but stops in hesitation. Blaine is just a person he met at the park. They started to know each other just recently. He is not like a close friend or is he?
Only if he had someone like Blaine right now...
Kurt hears the door bell ringing. He gets down slowly to answer the door bell. He is hoping for the anticipated person and there she is. He flungs open the front door and throws himself on Mercedes. She hugs him tightly with a slight hope of comforting him first.
kurt drags her to his room. Burt sees her,but just nods, knowing the situation. Soon,they are in kurt's room. And kurt's crying becomes more intense. Mercedes makes him to sit on the bed and gives him a hug to calm him down, drawing small circles on his back. Kurt is becoming calm and she knows its the right time to know the reason. She knows about Kurt's love for Carson.
He says the thing that happened,his bad feelings and belief on his twintuation(is it even a word?). And then silence. Mercedes doesn't want to tense up Kurt more.
Mercedes advises Kurt to try to call Carson's school authorities and ends up with them not responding after a number of tries. The last thing Mercedes sees Kurt doing is to hold her hand tightly, cling like a baby and fall into sleep . His exhaustion from all the crying and thinking pulls Kurt into his sleep.
Mercedes wakes up next day,seeing his best friend still clinging on her. she slowly removes her hand and goes downstairs for an an expresso for herself and something for kurt. She greets Burt and Carole ,who are sitting on the couch,quite worried about Kurt, yet watching news on the TV.
She makes her expresso and makes Vanilla milkshake for Kurt. As she walks across the hall to go upstairs, her eyes move towards the TV as she heard the voice of the news reader on the TV.
' Carson Philips, a 17 year old teenage boy, was found dead in the premise of the Millbrook boarding school,yesterday. The school authorities confirmed that he had been struck by lightning . He was a junior at the Millbrook Boarding School, Millbrook, New york...'
Burt ,Carole and Mercedes are watching this ,with their hands on the mouth, watching Carson's picture on the TV. The expresso and the milkshake fall on the soft carpet . just then , she clearly hears a figure on the staircase. He is standing there shell- shocked, in a half conscious state. He is standing there ,looking like he was the one who got struck by the lightning.
Mercedes just runs across the hall to catch Kurt, who is looking like a lifeless body. His pale face is more paler, His body standing still like somebody has cursed him with a Petrificus Totalus spell. The last thing Kurt heard was a loud wail from Carole, which made Finn to come downstairs and Burt hugging him with tears. A tight hug.
Kurt finds himself waking up from his bed, his hair all messy , in a miserable state. He has fainted downstairs ,on hearing the news . he finds Mercedes sitting next to him, with tears, Carole at the end of his bed and Finn holding his hand. He can't still believe the news was true. The scary thing is that his twintuation was right. He wasn't over exaggerating.
He doesn't say a word, not even a letter. He is lying on mercedes' shoulder ,looking at the ceiling. A glass of fresh lemon juice is kept on the side table, but who bothers about that?
He lost his twin to a damn Lightning. His half disappeared just like dust. It's been 4 hours since his faint and nobody wants to bother Kurt with their words. Only If kurt could have a time machine to go back in time to save Carson..
Blaine has become a loyal visitor to the park. Not just for the ambience. This became a perfect spot for Blaine to escape reality. Even when the Warblers threw a party for their win, Blaine found an excuse to come to the park. Was it because he wanted to escape from his 'girlfriend'? Probably. But he knows something. His new gained friendship with Kurt was a big reason that he loves coming to park.
The last time Blaine saw Kurt was at sectionals. Blaine saw him running outside the school.It's been two days since he met Kurt. Blaine isn't cheerful either. The dream keeps coming back like a recurrent cast. But as the days went, he feels it like a deja vu. He couldn't see the face, every time he gets interrupted, but the touch seems to be more familiar. It's like he's been hiding from Blaine,but always around him.
His cutting hasn't stopped any day. it's draining his colours from his face ,but it's the only thing that he can think of when he needs an escape. He lifts his sleeve a little ,to feel his cuts on the arm,his eyes filled with tears. Juts then, His phone goes. It is Mercedes. It's the first time ,she calls him after that friendly meet.
