Kurt is back in his room, refreshing himself.
"Hey, honey!Breakfast for us!" Blaine calls Kurt
"No Blaine. I don't take breakfast."
"Kurt, This is not good for you. Come on! Do you realize you passed out that day because you didn't eat?"
Kurt sits on the bed, drying his hair."I'm fine, Blaine."
"You're not gonna listen huh? " Blaine comes near Kurt with the food tray, pushing him to eat."Come on, I'm gonna feed my baby today."
"Ok Blaine, that's so romantic, but I ain't eating Anderson," Kurt in a toddler tone, as he kept pushing Blaine's hand and tray away. Suddenly, Kurt accidentally knocks off the warm soup bowl and the soup pours onto Blaine's wrist collar.
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry. Come, let me clean the mess," says Kurt, as he pulls Blaine's wrist to have a clear look.
"No no no no-" cuts Blaine. He doesn't want to showcase his art of pain and this is a bad way for someone to surprise their loved one in the morning. Kurt lifts Blane's collar in a nick of time before Blaine can pull away. Kurt can clearly see the first of many cuts on his arm. He isn't blind, he saw it.
"Wait, what is this?" Kurt with one eyebrow raised looking at Blaine for an answer. Blaine doesn't speak, not even a word. His eyes are closed like windshields, gulping saliva down his throat. Kurt slowly realizes that the shit is getting pretty serious." Blaine, What happened?" asks Kurt, with his voice so calm as breeze.
It's time. It's time to begin, isn't it? Blaine can't hide it anymore. He should answer his questions, even if he has no courage. He was planning to tell Kurt that day with a more courage-filled face, but all he can give now is a terrified, pain-struck face. Kurt pulls the tip of Blaine's finger to make him sit next to him. Blaine is weeping in his burying hands. Kurt can see him trembling; he puts his hand on Blaine's back, giving him time to stop crying while rubbing his back.
They remain in the same position for good 15 minutes. Kurt whispers to Blaine," What happened? Are you gonna talk about this?" Kurt can clearly smell alcohol in his breath
Blaine nods gently and is mentally preparing himself to face his love and his nemesis now-fear.
Blaine tries not to whimper though he stopped crying. "I didn't come out to anybody, Kurt. Except for you, my mom, my ex-girlfriend, and my best friend at Dalton. My dad doesn't like me being gay. I tried coming out to him but every time it ends up bad with thrashing and hurting. Past few months, it's become more and my dad calls me frequently to home. My grades started to drop drastically and he got complaints frequently. I couldn't bear it, Kurt. I started to drink to ease the pain and escape reality. I cut quite frequently and that's the result on my hand," says Blaine with his heart-broken tears. rolling and falling on Kurt's hand.
Kurt knew something was going on. Wearing full-cover clothes like him and drinking were clearly some symptoms. Kurt pulls Blaine into a big hug. Screw his insecurities! He has a more important job of comforting Blaine. Kurt rubs Blaine's back gently, seeing Blaine holding him so tight around his abdomen.
"Why were you hiding this from me, Blaine? You could have spoken about this to me," Kurt with his concerned eyes.
" Why did you hide that you were getting harassed, bullied ?" Blaine asks, which seems to be quite harsh. Kurt realizes that it was a backfire of his question. The answer to his question is the answer to Blaine's too.
"You were in the same state as me, Kurt. You didn't want to pull others into your pain and troubles," Blaine in his whimper. He is stating facts, Kurt knows it.
Kurt holds Kurt's cheek in his hand, feeling his tears. He wipes his tears, looking at him with so much love.
"You don't have to go hard on yourself, Blaine. Cutting and drinking ain't options to relief. Look how hurt you are and do you realize that your drinking problem has gone out of hands?"
Kurt responds to Blaine's "innocent" look, "Don't look at me like that. Now, I know where that beer bottle went. This puppy had his sipper filled with booze and hid it somewhere."
Blaine is chuckling, hanging his head in guilt; Kurt knows how to handle Blaine."I am sorry, Kurt. I was hearing you and Carole talking about the bottle and I am so sorry that I should hide from you guys. How am I going to answer your dad and others? Oh my god, I-"
"Stop panicking Blaine. I will get that covered," Kurt assuringly. "Stop cutting, Blaine. I know it's hard, but you can get through this. I will help you. And We should work on your drinking problem, too."
"Did you just say "we"?"
"Did I misspell "we"?" Kurt sarcastically," Well, you heard me right. It's our homework now. We are getting through this together. Alright?"
Blaine nods gently, looking at Kurt's hand."Kurt, I don't know if you can ask this, but will you be my secret boyfriend?"
Kurt is stunned for a moment. Nobody has asked this question to him, not even that one boy who "loved" him before. " Y-yes," Kurt whispers.
That's enough for Blaine-just three words. Blaine's hazel eyes are going blur with salt drops, salt drops of happiness. Kurt slowly wipes his tear, smiling gently. Blaine chuckles, pulling his own hand to wipe the tears, while Kurt doesn't leave his hand.
"So, let's get back to eating," Blaine distracted Kurt.
"No, are you trying to get me fat?" Kurt threatens with his question.
"Nope. Are you serious, Kurt? You are skinny to the point that your bones are superficially seen. Don't you listen to the people at your school. Don't you believe me?"
Kurt nods giving a negative answer. "Wait, I'll show you," says Blaine and pulls Kurt's hand to the driveway. He drives Kurt somewhere and Kurt keeps questioning him. "Please, stay calm. I'm not gonna murder you," says Blaine, making Kurt give up.
The car pulls up in the parking lot of the free clinic near Kurt's house. Kurt is confused as to why Blaine has to bring him here, this place out of all the other places in Lima.
"Kurt, I need you to measure your BMI and come back."
"Why do you want to know that?"
"Just do that, Kurt." And Kurt reluctantly goes into the clinic. He returns back in a few, with a bit of paper bearing numbers written on it.
" Now, surf online for a BMI chart and find what is said for this number." Kurt is trying to figure out what Blaine is meaning.
"Umm...it says underweight," Kurt starring at the paper.
"Did you see it? You are underweight. Severely underweight to be honest, "Blaine with his hand on Kurt's shoulder. "Nothing's gonna happen if you start eating. You need nutrition and you will pass out again if you don't. Beauty is in your heart, Kurt. You have it. Don't hurt yourself."
Kurt looks at the ground, trying to hide his emotions." I told you they were lying, didn't I? I proved it right. Now we have to work on this, Kurt. Before it gets more serious."
Kurt smiles defeated and quite relieved and nods agreeing. "Fine, Let's clean your wrists. I don't want it to get septic."
"Nope, I'm fine. I don't want anybody to find this," says Blaine, as he sees if anybody is looking at him.
" Ok, let's get home and get it cleaned, in our private chamber. I don't want to leave my boyfriend without getting treatment for these. No more talk," Kurt as he pulls Blaine's hand gently.
Burt calls Kurt downstairs the next day for the first step. Burt went to the school to talk about the matter.
"What did they say, dad?" Kurt with an anticipating voice. Burt takes a minute to arrange the jumbled pieces in his mind, but he puts them into Kurt's ear.
"What is it, dad? Please don't keep me waiting," says Kurt, nearly at the tip of his toes.
"Umm...Kurt, we talked about what we can do. The Principal, I think her name is Sue Sylvester, assured that they need pieces of evidence. I showed some of your bruises and she told that it wasn't a good way to deal with school authorities. She advised me to move forward legally."
"You mean a c-case? No d-dad, I'm fine," Kurt stutters. Burt pulls Kurt's face towards him gently, without hurting the bruises. "Kurt, you don't see how serious this is because you always see the good in them. But, do you realize it has got you to this condition because you didn't react? Look at your sweet face, battered by slushies and hitting..."
Kurt is slightly blushing. Not many can get a dad who frankly speaks how beautiful his son is.
"What about my schooling, dad?"
"Umm...can I suggest you an idea? "
"Hmm hmm?" Kurt doesn't see what was coming for him.
"Umm...I think we should opt for homeschooling, Kurt," says Burt with a questioning tone, waiting for a response from Kurt. Kurt couldn't digest it. Kurt doesn't want to show any emotions to his dad.
"I know it's gonna be hard, buddy. But, I cannot risk your safety anymore. The Principal assured us that she could help us in this matter. She can convince the school authorities to arrange teachers from school and you don't have to repeat this year. You can join your Senior year after everything gets sorted out."
Kurt can't bear this. Not because he will be missing his school or the jocks. He will be missing his friends- their faces, their glee club time.
"I don't know if I can, Dad." Kurt is practically tearing up.
"I know it, Kurt. But this is just till all the problems get sorted out. Besides, you are visiting hospitals and using medications."
"Can I ask you something? Do you think I am so weak to handle this?"
Burt tries so hard to answer him. This is more difficult than he thought." No Kurt, no. You are braver than most of the kids your age. I don't know who did you even manage to hide from everyone. You handled your mom's and Carson's death and you managed to handle these things too. I just can't see you getting hurt anymore." Burt can't see his kid crying and is so heartbroken. He pulls him into a tight hug, rubbing his back " It will get better, Kurt. It will."
They pull away, wiping Kurt's tears, "Take your time, Kurt. There is no hurry." And hands him the procedure brochure. Kurt nods and runs upstairs. He is so confused-he wants to talk to somebody and so, he scrolls in search of the right person. He started to trust Blaine more; He knows he can help him. Kurt calls him, but he doesn't pick up.
Kurt lies in his bed, with his diary for an hour, letting his mind wander among different choices and their consequences. Just then, Kurt's phone rings.
Kurt: Hello?
Blaine: Hey honey. Sorry, I couldn't pick your phone.
Kurt: That's okay. Are you free? Can we hang out?
Blaine: I am sorry, Kurt. The school works holding me... But hey, we can talk. Do you want to talk about something?
Kurt: Y-yeah. Da went to school today.
Blaine: Oh shit! I totally forgot about it. What happened?
Kurt: Umm, Dad went for the discussion. They said that we should deal with it legally. Dealing through the school is fugitive.
Blaine: Oh, OK. What about your schooling?
Kurt is silent, immersed in the same confusion again.
Blaine: Kurt?
Kurt: Umm... Dalton is not a choice and there is no guarantee that other schools are safe. Sooo?
Blaine: So?
Kurt: Dad asked me if I can be home-schooled. What do you think about that? I am confused.
Blaine: Umm...I don't know what to say. Maybe your dad gave the right choice for you. We can't risk it again.
Kurt: I have no problem in getting home-schooled, Blaine. What scares me is that I may be losing my friends. You know, I wouldn't be attending Glee club and you know that's one of the things I love the most.
Blaine: Oh Kurt! I know it's difficult for you. But, it's for your good. We can figure out some way that you don't miss those things.
Kurt: How?
Blaine: I know exactly what to do. You will come to know sooner, Kurt.
Kurt: Fine. Are you sure?
Blaine: Yeah, I am. (Pause) I love you.
Kurt is blushing now. It's been one day since they confessed to each other that they have feelings and these 3 words are so special for him.
Kurt: Love you, too. Take care.
Kurt is allowed to take a break for the next day too. Kurt is trying to get himself distracted by doing chores, cleaning rooms, and of course searching some help for Blaine. How boring it would be to be alone at home? A house that is so silent?
In the evening, Kurt is organizing his wardrobe when he hears a mysterious doorbell. It's not time for Burt or Carole to come home. He goes downstairs real quick to open his door.
"Hey dude, how was your day?" Finn walks in asking this
Kurt peeks out. It is not just Finn. Almost whole of the glee club came to Kurt's home
"Hey! Whoo, what brings you guys here?"
Mercedes steps forward," Well, some mysterious well wisher told that you need help and Here we are."
"The whole school is talking about you, Kurt. What are you doing?" Mike as he presses his neck.
"Huh, what are they talking about?" Kurt curiously.
"Well, most of them saw your dad yesterday at the office. Since then, the news is spreading like a wildfire. What is happening?"
Kurt doesn't want to say anything before it becomes official.
"I will talk about this when I come back to school." And there goes the evening with all chatting, having some refreshments and a few songs. Burt saw these people and waits for all others to get to their home before he sits with Kurt for talking.
"So Kurt. What have you decided?"
Kurt is sweating profusely as he is trying to make his word.
" Dad," Kurt as he holds Burt's hand," I agree."
"Agree to what exactly?"
" I agree to get home-schooled. But can I attend school just for this week?"
Burt thinks if he can allow it. Finally with a deep breath-
"Fine. You can. Meanwhile, I'll get the paperwork done. Alright?"
Kurt nods and Burt pulls his precious porcelain son to an embracing hug. Kurt finally enjoys a warm thick hug from his dad, knowing that It gets better.
