Disclaimer: I do not own the Vampire Diaries and never will. Cause if I did, the show probably would have ended after S3. Oh, and Delena would have never became a thing. However, I do own my OC Paisley and her personality.
Author's Note: Thank you so much for the reviews for the prologue of my new story! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And as you can see, I decided to continue the story. Still don't know how this story is going to go, but we will see. Also, I did a poll for who you would want Paisley to be with, but you can also still tell me in your reviews. Anyway, enjoy the first chapter!
P.S. The chapter takes place at the end of the The Sun Also Rises episode!
She stood before a mirror in the bedroom belonging to Elena, and she figured hers now. Paisley still wanted there to be a way for her to go back home and Bonnie was still trying to find something to make that a reality, but the witch still hadn't found anything. So until then, here she was, stuck in a body that wasn't hers.
Today was the funeral of Elena's uncle/father and her aunt, and Paisley had to be there, even though she felt like she had no right to be. She wasn't Elena, would never be her, to the distain of Damon. It was obvious the man had been in love with the body of the girl she had taken over, even though she had been together with his brother, Stefan…who hadn't taken the fact that Paisley was in the love of his life's body very well. He took it better than Damon, and he was helping Bonnie find a way to bring Elena back.
Paisley sighed as she put on a pair of earrings, matching the black dress she wore. Of course she had to get stuck in a body who anyone would do anything for. Even if they did find a way to send her back, she would still be dead and who knows what would happen to her soul. Paisley couldn't help but wonder why this happened to her of all people. Why would she be sent into someone else's body? It made no sense. She wasn't anything special. She was just a normal girl who didn't have any unique qualities. Paisley figured she would never know and would just have to get used to the fact that this did happen, and nothing could change unless they did end up finding a way.
After putting on the earrings, Paisley stared at her reflection, taking in her new appearance. This was the first time she actually had the time to look at herself. Elena was definitely a pretty girl, far from the girl Paisley had been with her bright curly red hair, bright green eyes, and pale skin. She hadn't been ugly by any means, but Elena was gorgeous. No wonder she had so many people in her corner and would do anything to get her back.
Paisley wished she had been so lucky.
Hearing a noise from behind her, she turned her head only to find Jeremy standing behind her, looking quite handsome in his suit and tie. Paisley gave him a tentative smile. He was actually the only one who hadn't been trying to avoid her at every turn. Given she had to live with him, so he had no choice, but still. He was treating her better than everyone else was.
"Hi." Paisley greeted once before turning to face the mirror again, tugging at her dress. "I think this is bad idea…me going. I mean, I'm not Elena. This doesn't feel right."
"If you didn't go, everyone would find it weird." Jeremy pointed out, going to stand behind her.
She knew he had a point, but she still didn't feel right about this. "Yeah…I guess so." She met Jeremy's gaze through the mirror. "I'm sorry about this. Bonnie filled me in on much you have lost. I can't imagine losing my parents…and my uncle…and my aunt…and now basically you've lost your sister. I'm sorry."
Eventually, he said, "It's not your fault. You didn't know this would happen. Yeah, it sucks I've lost my sister, but you lost something too. So…no, I don't blame you."
"I wish the same could be said for everyone else." Paisley said with a sad smile.
"They'll get over it eventually." Jeremy offered, but she doubted that. "I wouldn't worry about. As long as your in Elena's body, you aren't going to be hurt. I won't let that happen."
Paisley would have appreciated it if it wasn't for the beginning part of his sentence, but she thanked him anyway. "Thank you." She gave him another smile.
There was silence between the two of them. It didn't last too long though.
"I know it probably doesn't mean much to you…but our uncle…Elena's dad…left a message for her."
Paisley turned around to face Jeremy. "I'd like to read it." She said, not really knowing why she wanted to.
He was surprised by that, but he still handed the letter over to Paisley and she immediately took it from him. "I'll be downstairs." He told her softly.
Paisley nodded, giving him one last smile. He smiled back at her and left the room. Once he was gone, Paisley looked down at the letter in her hand. Taking a breath, she opened the letter and started reading it.
Elena,
It's no easy task being an ordinary parent to an extraordinary child. I failed in that task. And because of prejudices, I failed you. I'm haunted by how things might have played out differently. If I had been more willing to hear your side of things. For me, it's the end. For you, a chance to grow old and someday do better with your own child than I did with mine. It's for that child I give you my ring. I don't ask you for your forgiveness or for you to forget. I ask that only you believe this. Whether you are reading this as a human or as a vampire, I love you all the same as I've always loved you, and always will.
John
Paisley felt wetness on her cheeks and was surprised when she felt it that she was currently crying over the words Elena's dad had written in the letter.
Why was she even crying? She had no reason to even cry. She had no emotional attachment to this man whatsoever. Deciding not to think too much about it, Paisley wiped her eyes and went downstairs to get this funeral over with.
Despite the somber atmosphere at the grave sight where they buried Jenna and John, the weather was really nice outside. Paisley closed her eyes as the breeze hit her face. She opened them back after a moment, staring at the tombstones before her. Paisley could feel the stares of Elena's friends, but she ignored them for the most part. No one bothered coming up to her to see how she was feeling, and Paisley couldn't blame them. She wasn't Elena so it didn't matter what she thought about it all. Like she said, she didn't have emotional attachment to any of them, so she didn't care if they came up to her or not. She'd rather be alone anyway to gather her thoughts.
As she stood there in front of the graves, Paisley couldn't help but wonder how everyone was taking her death. Have they found out about the car accident? Did they already have her funeral? All these questions were whirling around in her head, and she had no idea what to do to them. Paisley groaned, rubbing her temples as a headache started to form. At the moment, she wished she had a drink, or a couple of them. She was sure there was a place around here where she could get one.
Paisley was ready to get out of here. She turned around and started to walk off, passing by Elena's friends and Stefan Salvatore, Elena's boyfriend.
An awkward smile appeared on Paisley as she met his eyes. There was a pain in them but also love for the girl she had taken over. Paisley looked away from him and kept walking.
She didn't know where she was going. She knew she didn't want to go back to Elena's house. She had no right to be there anyway. Maybe she could go stay somewhere else instead.
Paisley eventually walked into town, ignoring the stares of people around her. The town of Mystic Falls clearly was small, unlike the city of Chicago where she was born and grew up in. Whispers were all around her as well to the point it was making her headache even worse. Paisley forced herself to ignore them as she found herself standing in front of a place called the Mystic Grill. She brightened at the sight of it. Here's where she could get her drinks.
Paisley pulled the door open and hurried over to the bar. The bartender was already there as she sat down in front of him.
"I need a drink." Paisley announced, slapping her hand on the bar, making the bartender jump. "And keep them coming."
"Do you have your ID?"
"Not on me, but please can you make an exception?" Paisley fluttered her eyelashes at the bartender flirtingly. "I lost someone, and I need these drinks."
The bartender hesitated for a moment. "Okay…what can I get for you?"
"Just surprise me." Paisley didn't have to wait for her drink for that long and before she knew it, she had downed four of them. Her original body had always been a lightweight and Elena's body was no exception.
A drunken giggle escaped Paisley's lips as she tried to get up out of her seat at the bar only to nearly trip over her feet.
"Do you need to be to call you a cab?" The bartender asked worriedly.
Paisley quickly waved him off. "Nope, nope! I got this!" She smiled at him lazily as she stumbled out of the Grill. "Ugh, I feel so much better now!" She cried out in relief into the night air. "This day has been god awful. Why the fuck did this have to happen to me? I wasn't supposed to die, and I wasn't supposed to be stuck in another person's body! UGH!"
Not wanting to walk anymore, Paisley sat down on the sidewalk and laid back on it, putting her arm over her face.
"Elena, what are you doing?"
"My name isn't Elena." Paisley mumbled. "It's Paisley." She removed her arm and once the blurriness disappeared, she looked to see who had been talking to her. "Oh, it's you." She found herself staring into the worried eyes of Stefan. "What do you want? Finally decided to talk to me…and why did you call me Elena? You know I'm not her." She got up to her feet only to almost fall back onto her back if it wasn't for Stefan for catching her. Paisley immediately shoved his hands off of her. "Don't touch me! I'm fine. You're not worried about me anyway. You're only worried about Elena's body. Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to your precious Elena."
"Let me just walk you home." Stefan tried taking a hold of her arm, but Paisley just jerked it away.
"That's not my home." She said, starting to walk down the sidewalk. "I'm going to find somewhere else to stay."
"If you don't want to go there, then just come over to boarding house." Stefan said, "It's not safe for you out here. Not with Klaus still around."
Despite being drunk out of her mind, Paisley recognized the name of the man who had killed Elena for a sacrifice and made this whole thing happen in the first place. A flash of anger hit her all at once.
"This is all that bastard's fault." Paisley spat out. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. I don't want to be here! I want to go back home, back to my own body. I rather be dead than stuck in this damn body! I'm sure every god damn one of you wishes I wasn't here. If I wasn't, you guys would have Elena back. This isn't what I wanted." By the end of her rant, Paisley had tears streaming down her face and she was on the ground, her hands covering her mouth as she sobbed into them.
Too busy crying, Paisley barely felt Stefan pick her up in his arms and cradled her against his chest. If she had, she would have pushed him off. Instead, she let him comfort her as he carried her off. Paisley buried her face in his chest and closed her eyes, hoping the next time she woke up everything would be different.
