Second Chances
Chapter 8
Sonny walked into his house, almost ran, looking for Carly. He missed her and his kids. They were going to be ecstatic at seeing him. He had been Mike for so long, he had forgotten what was really important. As he looked around, he was amazed at how quiet everything was. No one was home. Absolutely no one. Where could they be? He walked into the living room and stopped by the pictures of his family. He loved those pictures. He was finally where he belonged.
He went out to their patio to see if there were any guards at the door and there wasn't. So, he walked over to their headquarters stationed right by their home. He walked in and he saw the look of surprise on everyone's faces. They were shocked, stunned and speechless. "You haven't seen a ghost guys. It's me."
"Boss…" Tony said, as he got up from his chair. "What? How?"
"I'm alive. Long story. Where's my wife? You're always with her Tony. I hope that hasn't changed since I've been gone. Carly needs to be well guarded and you're the man for the job."
Holy shit. Holy fuck. Holy shit. Yeah, he said that already. "Uhm…her and Mr. Morgan are out." Probably in wedded bliss. Well this was a kink in their otherwise happy life.
"Where?" Sonny asked, narrowing his eyes at him. "What aren't you telling me."
"Boss…you need to talk to them."
"Now I know something is definitely wrong here. What the fuck is going on Tony?"
"We all thought you were dead, sir."
"I know."
Tony nodded his head. "They're at The Metro Court."
Seeing that Sonny was going to get nowhere with Tony, he nodded his head. "I'm going to go take a shower and then you can take me to The Metro Court. I want you with my wife at all times Tony. You know that."
"Sir." Tony nodded.
There definitely was something going on here and he intended to find out.
"I should call home and check in on the girls." Carly said to Jason, as she lifted her head off of his chest. She was exhausted, but a good exhausted. She was sore in all the right places. "I won't be long. Uninterrupted is still on Jase, but we should check in. It'll only take a few minutes. I know I said phones off and I'm the first one to break that but I miss the girls."
Jason nodded his head. "I should check in with Tony."
"Yeah. I love you." She said, before lightly kissing his lips and sitting up in bed with her feet on the ground, her back to him.
Jason smiled as he ran a hand down her back and when she stood up, he leaned in and smacked her ass, laughing as she yelped. "Jase!" Carly admonished, playfully.
"I love you too." He said. "And I love that ass. Always have."
Carly laughed out loud. "Is that right? Is that why you always asked me to leave? So, I could turn my back on you? You always were an ass man, weren't you?"
Jason shrugged. "I'm a Carly man. I love every single thing about you and your body. But if I had to choose one part of your body, then yes, your ass is pretty hot."
Carly just shook her head and giggled. "Hey Pilar. Yes. It's been amazing. Thank you. We will try to be home tonight or…" Carly looked back at her husband, seeing that he was waiting for Tony to pick up. "In the morning, at the latest. Will you be okay? Thanks Pilar." Carly said, as she hung up the phone and went back to the bed.
Jason saw Carly come towards the bed and she laid the top half of her body on top of him. Jason moaned appreciatively as he wrapped one arm around her lifting her up so they could be flush against each other. That was weird, Tony didn't pick up. "Tony, just checking in. If you need to call, call. If not, we will see you…" Jason shifted his eyes to look at Carly and scrunched up his nose. "Tomorrow. More than likely tomorrow."
Jason hung up his phone and threw it on the bed not really caring where it landed. Right now he was just concerned about having his wife close to him. "Now where were we?" Jason stated, huskily, pulling her towards him once again.
"I believe we were going to start playing a game of Scrabble…" Carly said, as she laughed at Jason's face. She reached her hand to his face and gently stroked the side of his face. She loved this man so much. She had never stopped. And now that she finally had him as her husband, she was never letting him go.
Jason rolled his eyes and smiled: "Four letter word: FUCK. F-U-C-K."
Carly laughed out loud. "You're so romantic Jase!"
Jason wiggled his eyebrows as he flipped them and muttered before leaning down to kiss her: "I try."
Sonny stepped into Carly's office and smiled at her assistant. "Hi."
"Mr. Corinthos…" she exclaimed, surprised, shocked and a tad bit horrified at seeing him standing right in front of her.
"I'm looking for my wife. Is she in her office?"
Holy shit. "Uhm…no I have not seen her this morning."
Sonny scrunched his forehead and rubbed his chin. "I wonder where she could be." He didn't even glance back to see Carly's assistant and walked out. Sonny got into the elevator and pushed the button to go down. Maybe she was at the bar. The elevator doors opened and in walked one of GH's doctors. What was her name? Who cared. He looked at her and smiled turning back towards the front of the elevator.
"Mr. Corinthos?" Britt said, in astonishment. "Weren't you dead?"
"That's what people thought but yes, I guess I was."
"Wow. Have Jason and Carly seen you?"
"No. I'm looking for my wife right now. Just got back a few hours ago."
"Oh."
"Is there a problem? I'm sorry. I'm bad with names. I know you work at GH."
"Britt Westbourne."
'That's it." Sonny said, smiling again. "You seem to have something to say to me."
"You don't know, do you?"
"Know what?"
"Yesterday, Jason and Carly got married."
Sonny's eyes hardened instantly and a dark glare was shot to Westbourne. "You must be mistaken."
Britt smiled and said: "No. No mistake." She went into her purse and took out their wedding invitation. She had not been invited, but she saw it at the hospital and she took it. She didn't know what possessed her to do that but now – maybe her subconscious knew that she would need it – and she was glad that she had it. She handed it to Sonny. "Just so you're caught up. Jason and I had a thing a few months ago and he left me for your wife. They said it was for business purposes as well as their growing feelings for each other but I wonder how much it truly was for business reasons."
Sonny took the invitation from her and stared at it, anger and hurt consumed him and he saw red. He was going to kill them. He was going to fucking kill them. Who the fuck did they think they were? No one took anything from Sonny, especially not his wife. Jason crossed a line with even thinking about marrying Carly. But actually marrying her? He didn't care for what reason, that was unacceptable to him. He didn't think Jason had it in him. Apparently, he was wrong.
Britt smiled inwardly and continued: "From what I gather from most of the Port Charles residents that have known Carly and Jason claim that in one way of another, they have been connected for over twenty years. And they can't seem to let go. Maybe that's why all their marriages have not worked out. You let me know if you need anything from me. I hope for your sake that your wife is as happy as she should be to see you."
The elevator doors opened and they walked out into the bar. Sonny scanned the bar and didn't see either of them. He looked back down at the invitation and confirmed that indeed their wedding was yesterday and he knew where they were. They were in Jason's suite – without them being able to keep their hands off of each other. They had waited decades to fuck again. That's what they were doing. And he would not have it. He was going to put a stop to it. Right now.
Jason laid his head on Carly's chest as she lovingly stroked his hair. She leaned down to kiss the top of his head. "I love you so much Jase."
"I love you too." How many times had they told each other that in the past two days? A lot. It didn't make up for decades of repressing it and not voicing it when they well knew that the love was there.
There was a knock on the door and Jason groaned out loud. Who the hell could that be? He lifted his head from Carly's chest and rubbed his face with his hand.
"I'll go Jase. You look tired…just cover yourself up. I don't want anyone even getting an inkling on how hot you are." She said, as she got up from bed, grabbed her bath robe and cinched it tight on her waist.
Jason laughed out loud. "I am in the bedroom you gorgeous, lovable, jealous, possessive psycho. No one can come in here unless they go through you."
Carly rolled her eyes and walked out of the bedroom. She laughed at Jason's comment. It was true, she was possessive and jealous of him. How could she not be? She laughed to herself as she checked the knot on her robe one more time before opening the door. And she froze. She gripped the door and white knuckled it. Sonny. It couldn't be. Sonny was dead. She had mourned him.
Sonny sneered at her, still fuming at what Westbourne had told him. "Surprise!" He said, as he walked right in. "Bet you didn't expect to see me on your post wedding night bliss day. But here I am you traitor."
"Oh my God! Sonny…how can this be?" Sonny was alive. For months she had prayed for this, finally giving up all hope. She had laid him to rest and now he was back. Their kids were going to be ecstatic. "How can this be?" She exclaimed, as she hugged him hard. "We looked for you. We gave up hope. You were never found."
Sonny stepped back and smiled. "Well…it's a long story but I am more interested in how you and Jason moved on rather quickly from my death might I add. Here I was, dying to come see you once I regained my memory but this…you in post-coital bliss with my best friend, and yours by the way, well…let's just say, it floored me."
"Sonny…" Carly started but stopped when he put his hand up to silence her. "Where's your new husband?"
The look of betrayal on Sonny's face did not go undetected by Carly and a flood of guilt overtook her body. She needed to remind herself she didn't do anything wrong. She thought Sonny was dead. It's comical but the last time she had even thought of Sonny as her husband was when Jason, Wu and herself talked outside of the limo after the car bomb. Since then and since her and Jason got married, and consummated, her husband was Jason. Only Jason.
Jason, on the other hand, was still laying in bed, lounging, flipping channels to see if there was anything on TV while he waited for Carly. But it had been a bit since she had gone to answer the door. He frowned and started getting worried. Maybe he should have been the one to open the door. He didn't think anyone would or could get past the guards but as soon as the thought of Carly being in danger, took root, he was up off the bed and put on his sweat pants in one yank and made it towards the front room. And that's when it happened: when all his dreams of happy endings died. When the life – their happy life – that he saw in front of him shattered. Sonny. It couldn't be. Sonny was dead. The different shades of rainbow he was seeing to depict his happiness at being Carly's husband gone in an instant. "Sonny?" Jason croaked out.
"Hey Jase!" Sonny said, mockingly. "Guess who's back? And home to claim what's his."
"Sonny…" Jason repeated again, in shock, frozen in place. This couldn't be. "We looked for you. For days. There was nothing left of you. What happened? How did you survive? I'm so glad you're okay." Jason said, truly meaning that. Contrary to anything going on with him – in his heart right now – Sonny was his brother and he loved him.
"Oh you know, I washed up ashore and had people help me for nine months but I had no memory of who I was. Didn't even know my name so I called myself Mike. Interesting how these things happen. I am living a life that isn't mine and you and my wife, my wife...decide to get married. I mean I should have known right? These feelings between you two have always been there, wanting to come out and play, but me being alive well that presented a problem didn't it? But with me gone? What the fuck, right? Let's go at it like bunnies."
"Sonny…" Carly started. "We did a lot of things to save and protect our family, including this marriage."
"So you're telling me you got married and screwed for the business? Come on, Carly…"
Jason looked between Sonny and Carly. She was in shock so he decided to continue: "Renault presented a problem, I went to prison, Carly had to attend a meeting, she runs our territory with me now. And we had to get married to present a united front."
"That all makes sense." Sonny said sarcastically. "But again, why did I catch you here at your penthouse suite, nude under that robe and under your sweat pants Jason. Don't tell me you did that for business? You wanted Carly, you've always wanted Carly and with me out of the way, you swooped in and stole everything from me."
"Sonny, we handled what we needed to handle and kept our family safe. My and Jason's family. Your family as well. We pursued this marriage because it was our only option but yes…" Carly admitted, a bit more in control of her thoughts and emotions. "We decided to get married and realized that old feelings came back. You were dead, gone for nine months, and we leaned on each other and that led to…"
"I can't hear this." Sonny spat out. "I don't want to hear either of you justifying this betrayal to me. To me! I've given you everything Carly. Has our marriage been ideal? No. But I thought that we were on solid ground before I went and supposedly died. I haven't even been 'dead' a year."
"The business continued whether you lived or died, Sonny. We had to act." Carly said. "I stepped in when Jason couldn't. I wasn't going to put any of my family in danger, any of our kids, our extended family, even our friends. I did what I had to do while Jason was shot and on the run."
"Well then…I'm back, with all of my memories. So, I assume that we can all go back to normal, right? You being the best friend and me being the husband that Carly deserves here. Isn't that right Jason? I mean it seemed to me for over twenty-five years you put up with Carly because of Michael and then a friendship ensued. You never wanted her as more than a friend. That's why you were glad when we got together. You didn't have to look Carly in the eye and see her pining for you anymore cause now she had me. So, you were completely free to love Courtney and Sam and Liz. Wasn't that the catalyst for you coming to seek me out Carly? And then you and Liz had a kid together; as well as you and Sam. You always have wanted other women Jason. Multiple women but never Carly." Sonny said, knowing that most of what he was saying he didn't believe himself. But if any of his jabs hit home to Jason or Carly, he would have effectively nipped his shit in the bud.
"You always knew how to get ugly Sonny, really quick." Carly said. She turned to Jason to see if he would say anything. Defend what they had. Their love but she saw what she always saw in Jason. Guilt. Loyalty to Sonny. Regret. Culpability. Shame. But not what she had seen in his eyes fifteen minutes ago. Unconditional love for her.
"I'm gonna go head home and give time to you two to compose yourselves before we continue to hash out what happens next with my business. I expect you at home Carly, with me, and our kids. I will talk to them and explain what happened while you two get it together. Take as long as you need to, sweetheart. No rush to get home, where you belong."
Without a glance back at them, Sonny walked out of the suite and slammed the door.
