Kimiko Hikawa had never believed in all that nonsense. Curses, evil spirits, and all that. But when she turned eighteen and had a dalliance with a rich Japanese man, everything changed.
Suddenly she was a priestess in training. The future guardian of La Push.
And she had two daughters already: Kumiko Mana Hikawa and Kitsune Reiko Hikawa.
Yuzuru came back to visit long enough to conceive each child. He always seems so confused as to why he left and so surprised he had children.
Kimi often suspected her mother for this memory blank. Kaoru had never liked Yuzuru, sure that a mortal like him would taint their bloodline.
Kimi was listening to her mother now. Her children already had magical gifts, and her mother seemed awful close to the Black family.
Kimi picked up a photo of Levi, Quil and Ephriam. She pulled the photo out of the frame and unfolded it. Sure enough, there was Mom, flirting scandalously with Ephriam.
Typical.
Kimi sighed and touched her tummy.
Suddenly she saw in her mind, very clearly, a young girl running with a russet brown wolf. A sealed tree—Helios's trapped place. The girl, stabbing herself, breaking the seal. A young man, reaching towards her, screaming—-
Kimi came out of the vision.
She stared down at her tummy. Her child had the power of premonition.
Xxx
It was a hot June night as Kimiko gave birth. She'd heard that the Cullens had settled not far from here, and she'd seen her mother talking to Ephriam's grandson. Jacob.
Kimi did not expect him to be here. Holding her hand as she held her infant child.
"It's alright Kimiko. I'm here now. I will protect her always." Jake said, almost reverently as he looked into the eyes of her child. "So." He grinned. "What's the little marshmallow's name?"
"I was going to name her Kurai. It means Darkness. Reminds me of you, Jacob Black. But looking at her holding that pretty gem…Kurisuta. It means—"
"Crystal." Jacob traced the tattoo on Kuri's arm. The tattoo of a dragon. Her skin was very cold, but not hard like a vampire's. "Ok little gem. I'll be outside guarding the door. If you need me, just shout.
Kimiko nodded, holding Kuri close as she fell asleep.
