Kuri was heading home from the Samhain Festival preparation. At the beginning, there was to be a dance between the High Priestess. She was thinking about asking Jake.
"I know Jake likes me." She said to herself. "But…would he think a dance at a festival is stupid?" Kuri looked back at the festival lights and sighed.
Kuri stopped in her tracks as she noticed a strange shop. "Raven's Chest."
Intrigued, she went inside. There were lots of old trinkets, and the whole place had a stifling, musty smell.
"Jake would hate this place." Kuri smiled to herself.
Suddenly something bright caught her eye. A brilliant red dress shimmering in a patch of sunlight, like something from a movie.
Kuri read the tag. "See Abigail. Who's Abigail?"
A great raven flew over and landed on the neck of the mannequin like some grotesque head.
Kuri smirked sardonically. "Don't tell me your Abigail."
"No, that would be me." A woman with wild curly dark hair, a slender frame, and a strangely inviting face stood there. Abigail was wearing what seemed like a million beads that jangled as she moved, and her clothes were swoopy. She looked like a gypsy or witch. And her eyes…milky blue, staring.
"Blind…" Kuri whispered before she could stop herself.
"Blind yes." Abigail grunted. "Deaf, no."
"I-I'm so sorry." Kuri apologized quickly, sensing that should not anger this witchy woman.
"It's nothing." Abigail said. "Now. To business."
"The red dress." Kuri gazed longingly at it. "How much?"
"$300." Abigail said shortly.
Kuri groaned.
"I-I'm sorry." She shook her head and headed out.
Unseen to her, Abigail patted the raven. "She'll be back. Go, my pretty."
The raven swooped out and followed Kuri.
