When they got back to the shrine, Kuri shut herself in her room. Jake assumed she was playing with her new toy. He chuckled to himself. What a kid.
When he checked on her an hour later, he found her painting on the walls!
"What the…" Jake looked at the walls, the wet paint burning his nose. "What are you doing?! You painted me! And who's this following me? You?"
"I-I can't stop!" Kuri looked at him with crazy eyes.
Jake calmed down, taking the brush from her. "Calm down. Look at what you've painted."
Kuri started. "Oh…Oh no!" She grabbed her head, then seemed to resolve herself. "I'm going to find that guy."
"Kuri…Kuri wait…I—"
"Jake. Stay." Kuri grinned at her little joke, and then was out the door before he could stop her.
Kuri could be fast when she wanted to be, and this was one of those times. Jake got up to follow her, glancing at the wall again…but the paint was gone.
In its place was a weird old-timey portrait of a room, with the same furniture as this room, just in different places. When Jake looked again, the people were in a different place.
And was that…?
He moved closer. It was. Oh hell.
Kuri.
