Kisuke let out a pleasurable moan as he slowly sank down in the hot tub, the water rippling against his tense muscles. Yoruichi was right, the hot tub really was worthwhile. He closed his eyes, letting out a frustrated sigh. The whole point was to relax and get his mind off of her. Not that it was possible when the room smelled of her coconut-scented shampoo and traces of her perfume. What was he thinking, kissing her when she was vulnerable and probably thinking of Kaien half the night— or even kissing her in the first place. It's not like people were around and they had to look like a couple.
He sank deeper into the hot tub, letting his head rest on the edge. He needed to get over her quickly if they were to continue this ruse. He didn't want to get hurt again. Not after the disaster that was his last relationship. For now, a distraction in the form of alcohol would have to do. Kisuke got out of the tub and changed into a casual black button-down, opening the top two buttons for good measure. He also decided on a pair of black jeans with a belt and headed to where the groomsmen were celebrating.
By the time he arrived at the karaoke place, everyone else was already there and someone was already singing. Kisuke was pleasantly surprised they weren't celebrating at a strip club. Though he was sure it would have made for a decent distraction. Seated on the two couches were Shinji, the newly-wedded groom Gin, and three men he had briefly met but hadn't really conversed with.
"It's 'bout time you showed up, Kisuke," said Shinji, looking up from the couch.
"Man, can you blame him? He was probably busy with Yoruichi," said the man with a 69 tattoo who gave him a knowing smirk.
Kisuke narrowed his eyes. Seriously, a 69 tattoo?
"Ugh, shut up Hisagi," said a light-blonde-haired fellow whose bangs covered half his face and looked like he hadn't seen the sun in a year.
"Am I wrong though, Kira?" Hisagi replied.
"You two are interrupting my song," said a man wearing sunglasses. Oh is he…?
"Ok, calm down everyone. Let Tōsen finish his song," said Gin, walking up to Kisuke. "Welcome, Kisuke. Did ya wanna sing the next song?" He offered him a microphone.
"Maybe later. I really need a drink right now."
"Sure, feel free to sit back and enjoy the drinks," said Gin, gesturing towards the bar.
Kisuke walked over to the bar and made himself a heavy drink consisting of gin, vodka, tequila, and rum with a hint of cola. Karaoke could wait. He was going to knock himself out tonight.
After some time, Shinji came over and slung an arm around his shoulder. "Ok what's up with you man? You've been drinking shot after shot while we've been singing our hearts out."
"Can you blame me?" said Kisuke, gesturing to the front where Hisagi was yelling in the microphone, off-pitch, with tears streaming down his face as he sang 'My Heart Will Always Go On'.
Shinji snorted. "Nah. There's something else bothering ya though. You and Yoruichi fought?"
"Something like that."
"Ah. Well, I told you it'd be tough."
"What did you mean by that?"
"Y'know. She's like, rich rich. Even though you're a professor and all, you're not Kuchiki Byakuya or one of those other rich brats. It's not going to be easy for her family to accept you."
Ah. Not that it really applied to him when they weren't actually dating. When he had already messed up their fake relationship.
"I'm also not really sure if she's 100% over Kaien yet, no offense. They had a long history. She was a hot mess after he died."
Kisuke just nodded. "She doesn't really talk about him."
"Hmm, maybe you should bring it up."
"Maybe."
"Now come sing at least one song with me before you pass out," said Shinji, dragging him to the front.
Yoruichi wasn't particularly shocked when Kisuke kissed her. She wasn't oblivious to the way he looked at her throughout the day, his gaze holding onto hers longer than he should— longer than a fake lover should. What she did find unexpected was that she held her gaze back and that any physical contact they made— an arm around a shoulder, a waist, a hand around hers, all felt scarily natural. It caught her off guard and made her scared; a feeling she wasn't well acquainted with. Though, she supposed it worked in her favor that they were able to act so naturally. That meant they were able to pull off the whole couple thing.
Her mind wandered back to the image of his cool, grey eyes staring into hers, the sudden feel of his soft lips that tasted of whiskey, surprisingly firm on hers. Then after, the disappointment he tried to hide as she pushed him away and the weakly-formed smile he gave her as she left him. She felt a pang in her chest. It was a mistake to choose him. She should have asked someone who just wanted to do it for the money to play the part. She sighed. There was no turning back now. They would have to maintain this fake relationship for at least some time, no matter how complicated.
She headed to Club TX, a famous nightclub with a 50-foot ceiling and a one-of-a-kind sound system that was frequented by popular DJs. The nightclub was exclusive and tough to get into with its limited occupancy. Yoruichi had asked Rangiku how she managed to book the entire VIP area for them, to which she replied that Gin's boss, Aizen, owned the club.
The plan was to hang out at the club for a while and then head back to Rangiku's suite later. She half expected Rangiku to have hired strippers, though Gin probably would've had them killed after he found out. She arrived and headed to the VIP area, greeting a few people she knew along the way. The rest of the bridal party was already seated on a gigantic couch around a round table.
"Hey, Yoruichi's finally here!" Rangiku got up and pulled her into a big hug.
"You're usually early for these things," said Kuukaku, handing Yoruichi a drink.
Yoruichi shrugged and took the drink, greeting the others present. Seated on the couch were Rangiku, Kuukaku, Momo, Soifon, and Nanao. "Sorry, lost track of time."
Kuukaku gave her a suspicious look that said 'you're spilling all the tea to me later.'
"Yoruichi-sama, come sit next to me!" said Soifon, patting the spot next to her.
"Of course, little bee," said Yoruichi, chuckling and taking a seat next to her.
"Yoruichi! Shinji told me he met your boyfriend. I'm so happy for you!" exclaimed Momo.
Yoruichi couldn't help but smile. She had a soft spot for the friendly, doe-eyed woman. "Thanks Momo, I'll introduce you sometime."
Nanao pitched in, "How did you two meet anyways?"
"We met while I was on a business trip in the US. Then he came back to Japan with me and here we are. We hadn't known each other for long… but I just felt there was something different about him," Yoruichi lied. Well, she supposed the last line wasn't entirely a lie. Still, that was the story they decided on. She'd tell them later that their relationship wasn't real, but for now, it had to be a secret.
Momo squealed. "That's so cute!"
"I still don't get what's so special about him," said Soifon, arms crossed.
Rangiku smirked. "Oh, I'm sure there's something. I hope he has fun with the other guys tonight."
"What are they up to anyways?" asked Nanao.
"Last I heard from Gin, he told me he wanted to go to karaoke," said Rangiku.
"Huh? Is he a good singer?" Momo sounded surprised.
Rangiku nodded, a soft smile appearing on her face. "He's actually an amazing singer. He sings for me when we're alone and I know it sounds crazy, but his voice is angelic."
All the girls exchanged glances in disbelief. Gin was truly a man full of mysteries.
Yoruichi couldn't help but wonder what Kisuke's singing voice sounded like. Considering how bad of a dancer he was, she imagined he might also be a terrible singer. She let out a snort at the thought of it, earning a weird look from Soifon. She gave her a reassuring smile and tried her best to concentrate on whatever conversation was going on between Rangiku and Momo. Something about how Shinji thought he was the best singer ever, especially in the shower.
"Yoruichi-sama?" said Soifon, snapping her out of her daze.
"Mhm?" Yoruichi replied, a little absentmindedly.
She listened with a hand under her chin as Soifon talked about her day, ranting about her foolish coworkers at her job. It's not that Yoruichi wasn't interested in what she was saying. Her mind was just in a different place, thinking about some blonde-haired idiot. After Soifon finished her little rant, Yoruichi excused herself and went to the bathroom. Not long after, Kuukaku walked in.
"Okay, fess up. Did something happen when Kisuke went to find you?" she asked.
"Not really, he told me you told him about the Kaien thing," said Yoruichi, her eyes narrowing.
"Hey, he deserved to know."
"I know…"
"Then what? I saw you two dancing; he was horrible by the way. Though I think you two were able to convince everyone you were actually a couple with the cheesy ass slow dancing," Kuukaku said with a smirk.
"Mhm, he asked me to dance with him. I think by the end he at least managed to learn how to slow dance," said Yoruichi, a small smile tugging at her lips.
"Okay, so dancing was good. Then what happened after? Half the time I looked your way, your mind looked like it was somewhere else."
"He kissed me," Yoruichi murmured, her voice a low whisper.
"When you were dancing? Damn, I missed it."
"No… when we were alone, at the hotel."
"Oh. Well can you blame him? Look at ya."
Yoruichi let out a small, exasperated laugh and ran a hand through her hair.
"So, did you kiss him back?"
"Just for a second."
"Did you like it?"
Yoruichi was silent and then she spoke, "Nothing can happen."
"You deserve to be happy, you know. I'm not just saying this as your best friend, but as Kaien's sister."
"We're not speaking of this again," Yoruichi said sternly, leaving the bathroom.
Kuukaku just shook her head and followed her. Goddamn idiot, she thought.
The bridal party spent about an hour at the club catching up, dancing, and drinking. Eventually, they headed back to the hotel to Rangiku's suite where they were going to play a series of drinking games— not like everyone wasn't already drunk or nearly drunk at that point.
"What should we play?" asked Yoruichi.
"Never have I ever?" suggested Nanao.
"That's borinnggg," said Rangiku, letting out a drunk giggle.
"Beer pong?" suggested Momo.
"Maybe later."
Kuukaku pitched in, "How about truth or dare?"
Shrugs and nods went around. Truth or dare would have to do for now.
"Okay, let's start with the newly-wedded bride. Rangiku, truth or dare?" asked Kuukaku.
"Truth."
"Seriously?" came from several of them.
"Okay loser, what's the kinkiest thing you've ever done with Gin?"
"Oh, probably that time we fucked in the elevator and the maintenance people thought it was broken, so they went to check up on us."
Yoruichi whistled, Kuukaku cheered, and the other three just gaped at Rangiku.
"…Ok Nanao, truth or dare?" asked Momo.
"Truth."
"Man, you guys are a bunch of wusses," said Yoruichi.
"If you had to hookup with a guy that we all know, who would it be?" Momo grinned, unexpectedly mischievously.
"T-that's… well," Nanao stammered, turning red in the face before whispering, "…Shunsui."
A series of gasps were heard throughout the room.
"I knew it!" exclaimed Momo and Rangiku.
"Good taste," said Yoruichi, nodding approvingly.
"Get him girl," said Kuukaku.
Soifon just rolled her eyes.
It was Yoruichi's turn next. "Dare for me," she said with a smirk.
"Give Nanao a lap dance," said Rangiku with an evil glint in her eye.
Nanao looked horrified to which Yoruichi laughed and Soifon looked like she was coming up with a plan to murder Nanao.
"Don't worry Nanao, I'll be gentle. Just pretend I'm Shunsui or something," Yoruichi said with a smirk.
Yoruichi crawled over to where Nanao sat, and sat on her lap, placing her hands on Nanao's thighs, to Nanao's horror. "Yoruichi!" she said, her face flushed.
"Man, Kisuke's missing out," said Kuukaku, stifling her laughter.
They all watched in amusement, except for Soifon who was murdering Nanao over and over in her head, as Yoruichi started to move her hips.
"S-stopppp!" Nanao yelled and pushed Yoruichi off of her. Yoruichi landed on the ground with a thud and Soifon rushed to her side.
"Yoruichi-sama!" Soifon looked at Nanao. "How dare you!"
Yoruichi sat up, amusement written on her features. "Being rejected like that, that's a first for me."
Kuukaku, Rangiku, and Momo erupted into a burst of laughter.
"That was definitely the best dare yet," said Kuukaku, high-fiving Rangiku.
"Right?"
Nanao ran to the bathroom and hid there. She eventually came out a few rounds later, giving Rangiku the dirtiest look she could muster.
"Okay, moving on!" said Rangiku.
Several rounds went by in which Kuukaku had to ask a random guy in the hallway to sign her boobs, Soifon did a striptease, Momo admitted she and Shinji were into some freaky stuff, and Rangiku prank called her scary boss Toshiro. Eventually, it was Yoruichi's turn again and of course, she picked dare.
"I dare you to call Kisuke and tell him you have something important to tell him. And tell him to come here right away," slurred Nanao.
Yoruichi protested, "What? Let him enjoy the party with the guys."
"They're probably about done now anyways. Come on, it's an easy dare. Nanao went easy on you. Maybe cause she enjoyed the lap dance so much," said Rangiku.
Nanao turned beet red. "T-that's not true!"
Yoruichi was never one to turn down a challenge. Honestly, the dare was so easy it didn't even constitute a dare, if it wasn't for the fact that she didn't want to face Kisuke yet. She exhaled, taking a deep breath before picking up her phone and calling him.
"Put it on speaker," said Rangiku, earning a scowl from Yoruichi.
He picked up on the third ring. "Yoruichi?" Kisuke sounded drunk and confused.
"Kisuke… I umm. Shit. I'm going to kill Nanao. No, no calm down. She had no idea. I need to tell you something important. Can you come here? I'm at Rangiku's suite. No. 501."
She could sense him pause before he spoke. "Uh. Kind of really drunk rih now. Maybe tis should wait till morning?" he slurred.
Nanao's eyes locked with hers and she mouthed 'Now.'
Yoruichi bit her lip. "It can't wait."
A longer pause. "Kay, I'll be dere."
"Don't drive, take an Uber."
"I know," he said, before hanging up.
She sighed. He sounded absolutely hammered. What the hell was she going to say to him when he came here? Kisuke arrived 15 minutes later, reeking of alcohol. He looked confused when he saw that everyone was there.
"Sorry… it was a dare."
"…Right."
There was a silence and then Rangiku chipped in. "Well since you're here, you passed the boyfriend test! You might as well stay and join us."
Yoruichi tried to seek out his eyes but he wouldn't look at her. She got up and went to him, reaching out to grab his arm.
"Are you okay?"
"Had a bit much to drink," he mumbled, wobbling a bit.
"Sorry girls, I'm going to have to head back earlier and take care of him."
"Aww, but Yoruichi!" and "Boooo!" came from several voices.
"I'll see you guys at breakfast tomorrow."
"Ya dun hav to leave. I can take care of muhself," said Kisuke.
"You can barely stand," she scolded, bringing his arm around her shoulder to support him. She wondered how he even managed to come here by himself. Somehow, she was able to bring them back to their room where she plopped him on the bed. She had to take a minute to catch her breath, feeling out of breath and out of shape. Though she worked out often enough, she wasn't an athlete anymore and she was physically very small.
"Yoruichi," he groaned.
"Get some sleep, we have to wake up early tomorrow. If you need me, just call for me."
"I'm sorry about earlier…"
"I told you to stop apologizing so much."
"…"
He closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep. She went to change into nightclothes and when she came back, he appeared to be sound asleep. When she was sure he was asleep, she leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"Goodnight Kisuke," she whispered.
