The Guardian's Journey : Kanto

Imagine if the age limit for starting a pokemon journey was raised. What if in that period ash matured a bit, studied and prepared for his journey through kanto? What if a year before his journey he met a young riolu with whom he formed a strong connection. This is my take one ash's journey. Ash will have Aura but not OP. His powers will gradually increase with training.

2. Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Studying and Rescuing a Pokemon.

A 10 year old boy sat in front of a Television watching a live battle between a giant Charizard and a grinning Gengar belonging to The Kanto-Johto Champion and Kanto Elite four Member Agatha.

After the Gengar had been defeated he felt a rush of excitement lept out of his seat and yelled out "I will become a Pokemon Master!" Hearing the yell a woman with warm chocolate eyes entered the living room. "Now Ash it's time for you to sleep you are going to start your studies for the Trainer License Exam at Professor Oak's from tomorrow at 9 in the morning." said the woman in a firm tone.

The Trainer License Exam (TLE) is a compulsory test that aspiring trainers must pass to become an Official Pokemon Trainer. The TLE is a fairly recent law introduced by the Pokemon League due to trainers not knowing much about their pokemon which often were found to be malnourished or being abused. So The Leagues across all the regions decided to enforce these exams to become a legal trainer. Also they increased the minimum age limit from to 13 to become a trainer due to this and also the because of trainers going missing, kidnapped or worse dead.

The now identified Ash pouted but had to reluctant agreed and bid his mother a dull "good night" and went up to his room. After all he had gone to the famous Professor and had literally begged him to learn from the man. After some persuasion the man had reluctantly agreed to teach him about pokemon. But Ash's concern was that Gary Professor Oak's grandson would also be present to learn from his grandfather. Gary has not bothered him much but he would look down on any children their age because of being Professor Oak's grandson. He was often found boasting to others about his knowledge and skills he does have a keen mind, if only he would be humble... thought ash. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he climbed onto his bed and snuggled into his blanket.

The sun rose in Pallet Town and the crowing of a couple of Dodrios could be heard as ash's alarm clock went off alerting him to get up and get dressed to head down to breakfast. Grumbling Ash got up and entered the bathroom and a while later came out wearing light blue jeans and black t-shirt with a blue half sleeve jacket still trying to tame his hair but to no avail. Sighing in defeat he looked in the mirror and nodded in satisfaction and headed down his room. Entering the kitchen he greeted his mother by a hug and a "good morning" and got a kiss on his cheek and a warm smile. "Good morning dear, come on eat up I have made your favorite pancakes or you will be late." Ash took a plate and sat down eating in a hurry eager to start his first step in becoming a Pokemon Master!

Having finished his breakfast he bid his mother a goodbye and he heard a faint good luck when he rushed out of the house and headed towards Professor Oak's Lab. He reached the main door of the Lab and tried to catch his breath and sighed in relief checking the time seeing he was a few minutes early. After catching his breath he rang the bell. He heard a faint yell of 'coming' and waited and the door was opened by a man wearing a lab coat, must be an aide for the professor thought ash. The aide told him to wait here. Ash did what he had been told and a few moments later he heard a voice behind him "Ah hello ash you are early. Good why don't you go outside and help the breeders with feeding the pokemon while we wait for Gary and meanwhile I will make some urgent calls." said Professor Oak while smiling down at him. Ash nodded excited and responded with "Alright Professor" and rushed towards the clearing. Oak chuckled at his excitement and went to do his work.

After a while helping the breeders feed the pokemon, Gary arrived looking for Ash and both headed towards the library. Ash and Gary had taken to ignore each other when they were together because of their differences and neither liked each other. The boys entered to see the Professor waiting for them. "So Ash and Gary we are starting right away. Now first of all to become a trainer you need to learn to take care for your pokemon, basic first aid, knowledge of pokemon types and moves as they are going to be the essential part of your exam and throughout the time of being a trainer. Now I will give you the basics today but from tomorrow we will be going in depth and I will give you lectures until noon where you will have a break for lunch and then I will go to do my work while you two will be studying in this library and if you do not understand feel free to ask me or any of the aides. And if you impress me with your performance perhaps I will let you camp out on route 1 with one of my pokemon to give you a glimpse of your journey. So let's begin then." The two boys nodded excited at the aspect of camping alone.

"Let's start with the trainer levels.

Beginner- To gain a Beginner ranking one must receive a pokemon from a League sanctioned Professor to be allowed to compete in battles for money and other such prizes. This is also true for being able to compete in contests and gym battles.

Seasoned- To gain this ranking the trainer must have one full team of well trained pokemon and have collected 8 badges or 5 ribbons.

Advanced- The jump between Seasoned and Advanced is rather large though as to gain an Advanced ranking a Trainer must have placed in the Top 20 of 3 regional leagues or competed in 2 Grand Festivals and have two full teams of well trained pokemon. These trainers are allowed to carry 3 additional pokemon with them making the total count 9.

Ace- To earn a Ace ranking is an even larger gap. Ace ranking trainers must have placed in the Top 4 of minimum 3 leagues, and have 5 full teams of well trained Pokemon. These trainers are further allowed to carry 3 additional pokemon on them making their number 12. In addition these trainers are also hired by the league from time to time to do some missions for them like rescuing a hostage, taking down a poacher, etc. and working alongside prestigious organisations like the Pokemon Rangers and G-MEN.

Well these are the levels a Pokemon Trainer can achieve.

We will start with the basics. Tell me what are the different types of Pokemon?" Professor Oak asked.

The boys had taken their studies very seriously and the Professor was happy because they were impressive for their age while other children only played these two would spend the day in his Lab studying everything about Pokemons. The two boys would often be found talking with the aides about various topics regarding pokemon.

ASH'S POV:

It's good I asked the professor to teach me otherwise I surely would have failed the TLE. The only downside is having to spend time with Gary. He is gone early today maybe I should just walk around the clearing for a while. I was shaken up from my thoughts when I heard a scream filled with pain ahead of me and I screamed for help and fortunately Professor Oak's Charizard had heard the scream and he shot down towards the noise. I ran to make sure everything was alright and I saw a Nidoking and a Rhyhorn about to attack a horribly injured pokemon that I couldn't identify trying to protect its egg from the man who was obviously a poacher was barking orders to his pokemon to take down the lizard pokemon. Charizard had already backed the pokemon into a corner and was about to take them down nidoking fired a hyper beam at charizard who blocked it but the powerful move was deflected and was rushing towards the egg. The parent, Charizard and I watched in horror but I don't know why but I leapt forward and thrust my hand forward and a barrier was created which absorbed the hyper beam. I was shocked at first about my mysterious power but ecstatic to be able to save the egg. I suddenly felt heavy and fell unconscious so I was unable to see the shock from the faces of the poacher and the pokemon.

I woke up with a horrible headache and saw that I was probably in the Lab. I slowly began to sit up the door opened and my mother rushed in and hugged I had trouble breathing she quickly released me. The professor and the pokemon from earlier entered the room. "How are you now? Is the egg healthy? And Professor what is that Pokemon? How was I able to protect the egg with my blue powers? I don't think I have seen a pokemon like it in our studies?" I asked to which my mother responded "Yes Ash both of them are safe and healthy. And to answer your question that was your dormant aura becoming active and as for the pokemon she is a Lucario who are native to the Sinnoh region. Now tell us what happened? I think it's time I told you the truth about your father." I was excited because mom never talks about dad. Sighing I started telling them.

After hearing the story Delia burst into tears and hugged her boy proud of the fact he had saved an innocent pokemon and told him to not use his powers. When ash asked her about his father she told him about how he was an aura guardian and he went missing several years ago. Ash was in overwhelmed by the information about his father and curious about the aura guardians and thinking what happened to his father. He was shaken from his thoughts when he heard a female voice that was not his mother but the lucario "You have my eternal gratitude Young Aura user for saving my child." Ash responded and waving it off like it was nothing before he noticed something different and he suddenly yelled out "WAIT! DID I JUST HEAR YOU TALK WITH ME?" To which all the occupants of the room chuckled at his outburst and his mother explained to him as his aura is active he can hear pokemon talk to him. Ash nodded and told his mother to take him home as he is hungry and very sleepy. Delia nodded and they bid the Professor and Lucario a goodbye and a promise to come tomorrow.

As ash was tucked in bed he thought about his new ability to talk to pokemon and he couldn't wait to talk to them.

This chapter just established ash's aura powers. Don't worry about Pikachu because I love him too and he will be ash's starter like in anime.
