Chapter 5: Arrival in Viridian City
Ash and his pokemon who had woken up from their power nap had reached Viridian City. They were about to head towards the Pokemon Centre but before Ash would move a hand grabbed his shirt "Hold it! Where do you think you are going with these pokemon young man?" Officer Jenny asked. "These are my pokemon Officer. Will you please let me go I have an heavily injured pokemon with me." Ash pleaded with the Officer. "Oh I am sorry I thought you were stealing them. Why don't you show me your ID and I will drop you to the centre?" Jenny asked. "Yes of course. And thank you." Ash said relieved and handed his pokedex to the Officer. 'I am dexter a pokedex programmed by Professor Oak for trainer Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town. My function is to provide Ash with information and advice regarding pokemon and their training. If lost or stolen I cannot be replaced'. Officer Jenny gave Ash back his pokedex. "There. Sorry Ash but I have to follow procedure there is increase in cases of pokemon thievery so when I saw you I thought you were a thief too seeing two pokemon on you. Hop on my bike. Let's go to the centre." Officer Jenny ordered. Ash quickly sat in the side car adjusting his pokemon in his lap as the three of them held on for dear life as the Officer rode her bike. Unknown to them the red haired girl had followed them her burnt bike on her shoulders. But they rushed right past her, "Hey wait!" she yelled running after them in a huff.
Pokemon Centre
Ash came running through the through the door with his pokemon after thanking the Officer for the ride. He spotted Nurse Joy and ran towards her, "Nurse Joy, please I need your help!"
"Is something wrong?" Nurse Joy questioned.
"I just started my journey from Pallet Town today and I saw a Pidgeotto being beaten by a flock of spearows. I did the best I could but he is still injured." Ash explained while showing the pokeball to her.
"Oh dear!" the nurse gasped snatching the pokeball from his hands and called Chansey. "And when you are done treating Pidgeotto, can you please check Riolu and Pikachu, we did some training and they beat a flock of Sparows." Ash said worried and proud of them.
"Of course young man. That's what I'm here for!" she smiled at him before walking into the Operation theatre.
Ash was getting anxious by waiting and decided to call home. Running over to the videophone he dialled his house's number.
"Hello?" his mom answered.
"Hey mom it's me Ash!"
"Oh Ash! How are you? You have reached Viridian City already? It took your father four days to reach there when he first started his journey. He'd be so proud of you Ash." Delia smiled at her son.
"I know mom." Ash spoke softy. "Can you call Lucario? We did promise to call you guys often after all."
"Of course. Lucario, Ash and Riolu are calling! By the way Ash why do you look so worried? Did something happen?"
While Ash told the events of the day, Lucario arrived and started grunting Delia to take a chance to look at her boy and was relieved to see they were fine. Ash and Riolu spoke to Lucario for a while.
"Now it's getting late, you three better go to sleep and don't forget to call us when you leave."
"Of course mum. Goodnight mum and Lucario. I love you."
"Goodbye dear."
Ash then called Professor Oak. "Hello Ash my boy! How are you doing? And how are Riolu and Pikachu?" the man exclaimed.
"Um, Professor you are facing the wrong camera and they are both doing good, just a little tired." Ash sweat dropped. Riolu greeted the old man with an excited yip and Pikachu looked away in a huff, clearly he was mad at the man who captured him.
"Oh how silly of me!" Professor Oak gave him a sheepish smile. "Hello to you Riolu and Pikachu. Well it seems Pikachu has still not forgiven me. So Ash, how's your journey been so far? Did you catch any pokemon? I made a bet with Gary that you would catch two on your journey."
"Professor you shouldn't make bets with your own grandson." Ash sighed "As to how I caught a pokemon. Well..." he once again explained the events of the day to the man.
"And Professor, I saw a pokemon flying over a rainbow. I couldn't recognize it and neither did the pokedex." Ash frowned.
"Ha, I knew I could count on you Ash! Hmm, send the data to me Ash I will check it right away."
Ash did that and waited for the Professor to explain but instead saw the man almost having a heart attack because of the data.
"A..Ash do you realize who this pokemon is?" the man practically shouted.
"You know I don't, that's why I called you." Ash said impatiently.
"Oh yes, how silly of me! Well my boy this pokemon is none other than the legendary pokemon Ho-Oh!" Professor Oak exclaimed.
"Wow! But I thought it went missing." Ash exclaimed.
"Not missing. It decided to stay away from humans and hasn't been seen until today." Professor Oak said giddy with excitement. "Well Ash, I know you three are tired, why don't you take some rest."
"Will do. Bye!" Ash waved to the old man and hung up.
"Why don't we sit while waiting for Nurse Joy?" Ash asked his pokemon.
"Ri Rio Lu (Alright)" "Pi Pikachu! (I am tired)"
Ash was about to sit when the red haired girl from earlier came in the Pokemon centre carrying a charred bike. "YOU! Who do you think you are? First you took my bike without my permission then you destroy it and leave it behind." exploded the girl.
"Look I'm sorry, but I found an injured pokemon and on top of that a flock of Spearows were after us when we battled them, lightning destroyed your bike." Ash explained. Before the girl would speak he cut her off "I will repay your bike when I have some money as I just started today."
"Well, alright then. But you better keep your promise." the girl warned.
They heard a ding and Ash rushed towards the door and Nurse Joy came out looking extremely tired. "Is Pidgeotto alright Nurse Joy?" Ash questioned worried. "Yes. It was a close thing but thanks to your first aid we were able to save the poor bird. Although she will have to rest at least until tomorrow. " Joy said praising Ash.
"It was nothing. I did as my mom taught me." Ash said blushing in embarrassment. "Can you check Riolu and Pikachu now, they are pretty tired? And both of them don't like pokeballs." he asked. "Can you heal my pokemon too Nurse Joy?" Misty asked.
"Of Course." Nurse Joy said taking their pokemon and heading towards a room.
Ash and Misty introduced each other and talked about random things until their pokemon were being healed. "Here, they are all healed up. Do you two want rooms for tonight? It's quite late." the nurse questioned them returning their respective pokemon to them. Pikachu and Riolu took their usual spots, the former on Ash's shoulder and Riolu beside him. Misty took the pokeballs.
"Yes please Nurse Joy." Ash and Misty replied.
"Remember to eat before you sleep. Dinner is in the cafeteria." Nurse Joy told them while giving them their room keys. They thanked her again and headed towards dinner.
Once they were fed, Ash and Misty they were about to part ways to their respective rooms when the lights went out. They went down to see what was happening when smoke entered the lobby.
"Don't be frightened little ones." A female voice rang out.
"Who is it?" Ash and Misty shouted.
"Prepare for trouble," said the woman.
"Make it double", said the man.
"To protect the world from devastation,"
"To unite all people within our nation,"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love,"
"To extend our reach to the stars above,"
"Jessie,"
"James,"
"Team Rocket blasting off at the speed of light,"
"Surrender now and prepare to fight,"
"Meowth that's right" said the meowth.
"..." Ash and Misty shared incredulous looks and bust out in laughter along with Riolu and Pikachu. "Hey who are you laughing at?" Team Rocket trio questioned in anger seeing those brats laughing at them.
"What do you want you morons?" Ash asked bluntly.
"How rude!" James said.
"Whatever! Hand over your pokemon losers or we will have to beat you." Jessie sated.
"That's right!" Meowth stated. Ash was still amazed how a pokemon could talk.
"You can't take steal pokemon here, they are all injured." Nurse Joy gasped.
"No way! Come on Riolu, Pikachu I choose you!" Ash said.
"Come out Staryu and Starmie!" Misty tossed the two pokeballs.
"Ha, what weaklings! Come out Ekans." Jessie ordered.
"You too Koffing." James ordered.
"Use water gun!" Misty shouted. Ekans, Koffing and Meowth were both soaked in water.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt on them." Ash ordered. Pikachu's thunderbolt weakened them considerably due to being drenched in water. "Now let's attack them together." Ash said to Misty and both grinned. "Pikachu send them a Thunderbolt. Riolu show them your Aura sphere." "Staryu, Starmie use Water Gun again."
"Piiiiiikkkkkaaaa-"
"Riiioooooo-"
Team Rocket and their pokemon trembled in fear.
"Chhhhuuuuu!"
"Luuuuuu!"
All four of them fired at the same time causing a hole through which Team Rocket went flying through. Ash and Misty thanked their pokemon and smiled.
"Thank you Ash and Misty! If it hadn't been for you two they would have stolen the pokemon." Nurse Joy said.
"No Problem." They replied in unison. They were too tired to speak and went to sleep.
Next Morning
Ash yawned and opened his eyes at the unfamiliar room and blinked in confusion before all memories from yesterday came rushing to him and he smiled. He carefully got out of the bed not to wake Pikachu who was curled up on the next pillow. He saw his partner stirring and helped him up. "Come on bud, it's time for our daily routine." Ash whispered to Riolu.
"Ri Rio Lu rio (Yes. Should we wake up Pikachu?)" Riolu asked.
"Let's ask him." Ash said. "Hey Pikachu, me and Riolu are going for some training and meditation do you want to come with us?"
"Pi" Pikachu blinked out the sleep out of his eyes as he yawned. "Pi ka pi Pikachu chu pi pika Pikachu pi (You train this early? Well alright then. Might as well do it as you have woken me up!)" grumbled Pikachu as Ash and Riolu smiled in amusement.
Ash, Pikachu and Riolu entered the cafeteria after their taking a bath to find misty sitting on a table eating her breakfast. "Hello Ash, Pikachu and Riolu, was it? I don't think I have ever seen that pokemon. From where is he Ash?" Misty asked.
"He is native to the Sinnoh region and they are also found in the kingdom of Rota. He's a fighting type pokemon that uses Aura." Ash explained while eating his breakfast. "What's Aura?" Misty asked. "Every living thing has aura. It is our life force. And Riolu actively uses it while battling." Ash explained. A comfortable silence settled down on them as they ate.
"Hey Misty, till I pay you back how about we travel together?" Ash asked breaking the silence.
"Oh, Um.. I guess, why not? It will be fun to travel with someone and this way I can make you repay my bike." Misty said. "Ash, Pidgeotto is woken up and she is very restless. Will you go and please visit her, I think it might calm her down." Nurse Joy said walking up to them. Ash had responded with a quick "Sure, Riolu and Pikachu come on. Let's check on Pidgeotto." and hurried towards where Pidgeotto was.
Ash entered the room and saw Pidgeotto sitting by the window looking out. When it heard the sound of the door and she saw Ash she began flapping her wings excitedly seeing her saviours.
"Calm down Pidgeotto. You will get exhausted." Ash spoke in a soothing manner.
"Pid geo Pidgeotto (Thank you for saving me.)" Pidgeotto spoke to them.
"It's quite alright. We wouldn't have left a pokemon to die." Ash said shocking her with how easily he understood her.
"Pid Pidgeo Otto Pidgeotto (You understand what I said!)" the bird exclaimed.
"I am an Aura user. So Pidgeotto I did promise you that I would release you if you wish or you can join us in our family." Ash spoke his voice serious as he stroked Pidgeotto's neck.
"Pid Pid geo Pidgeotto Otto Pid Pidgeo (Yes! I would be honoured to go with you Aura User.)" Pidgeotto said after thinking for a few moments.
Ash, Pikachu and Riolu cheered after hearing this. "Alright Pidgeotto." Ash quickly formed an Aura bond with her and scanned her with his his pokedex.
Pidgeotto, an evolved form of Pidgey It is armed with sharp claws and dives from the sky to capture its prey. Unlike the more gentle Pidgey, Pidgeotto can be dangerous. Approach with extreme caution.
Gender: Female
Ability: Keen Eye
Type: Normal/Flying
Move Set: Gust, Tackle, Quick Attack, Whirlwind, Twister, Agility, Mirror Move, Air Slash, and Hurricane.
Ash whistled at he move set "You are one strong bird Pidgeotto." Pikachu and Riolu agreed making Pidgeotto blush in embarrasment.
Ash scooped her up the bird in her arms and brought her out where Nurse Joy and Misty were waiting for him.
"Nurse Joy Pidgeotto has agreed to come with us. Is she safe to travel?" Ash asked.
"Of course you can take her but please let her rest for a while." Nurse Joy responded.
"Then what do you say guys let's head to the Viridian Forest!" exclaimed Ash. He was met with excited cries from his pokemon and a shriek from Misty.

AN: Should I make Ash field Researcher for Professor Oak? Ash will obviously see some amazing things on his journey. Should I make Gary one too? Let me know.
When should I make Ash and his Lucario Aura Guardians? Should it be during the Movie: Mystery of Mew? Or perhaps make Riley and Ash meet each other where Riley and his Lucario deems them ready for being an Aura Guardian? Let me know your thoughts.

Guest: I will not be spoiling the story for you regarding Pidgeot. Your idea about evolving Riolu has merit. I will certainly think about it. As for introducing Serena, the way you are suggesting is almost a copy of a very good story but the idea is a good one. I think I will introduce Serena or Cynthia (whichever one you choose) during a major event. Both of your ideas are awesome. If I don't use it regarding Beldum, I will surely use it for another pokemon who is not native to kanto.
