...
It was night now and Link barely managed to make a fire. Link sat down with Amaterasu, more nervous than ever.
"So, what now?" Amaterasu asked.
Link had to think about this question. He laid his head down low, in a ponder that was mixed with worry and regret.
He knew he had to save the world by restoring the light in 5 different places within Hyrule.
He will too, but he knew that also led to him being Human again. Would Amaterasu hate him if he had lied about his true self? Link took a peek at Amaterasu.
She had her head down low as well. She didn't seem to be making a sound, as if she was contemplating the same thing he was.
Link smiled at her.
"Hey... Let's stay positive. We are two strong wolves with the power to save this world!" Link exclaimed with confidence.
"I sure hope so..."
The two were silent once again. The fire they had made was nearly out, and Link didn't really have any more wood to make another one. Link signed.
"Guess we better sleep." Link said sadly.
"It's too dark anyway..." Amaterasu responded.
The two laid down next to each other.
"Good night, Ammy."
"Good night, Link."
Hours had gone by, and Amaterasu was awake.
"Link." She signed slowly, as he slowly woke up.
"Huh?"
"Come to me..."
Link tilted his head. He had thought she was asleep.
She had a very sad look on her face. Link couldn't bear to see her like that, so he slowly got up.
"What's wrong, Ammy?"
"I can't sleep." She responded.
"Neither can I."
"The memories are ever present..."
"What do you mean?"
"I think you know what I mean, Link." Link signed. He did feel pain from leaving Zelda behind.
"There's nothing we can do until we bring back the Light..." Link tried to sooth.
"We can't just sit here, Link."
"Yeah..." Link agreed. She was right. He had to leave the cave. Link nodded.
"An early start wouldn't hurt." He got up and stretched. It was really early in the cave they slept at. They happened to be next to Kakariko village.
Link and Amaterasu walked outside together. Link guessed Issun was still asleep in Amaterasu's fur. Link sniffed the clean crisp air with a laugh.
"At least it's a nice morning." He started gently.
Amaterasu looked up at the sky with a smile. It was no longer red, although the sun had barely risen. The two decided to explore Kakariko village.
The Kakaorito was a desert village, and had only a few buildings that were made out of stone. Link knew this town well. He picked this town for it was near Death Mountain, their next stop to try to bring forth one of the five Light Vessels.
However as Twilight turned the humans into spirits, it was a little lonely. A few of the Kakaorito workers ran past the two of them. They looked a little sad and tired, but kept their eyes forward. One of the workers, a girl, saw the two of them.
Link saw Amaterasu watching the group of spirits live to what seemed to be happy lifes. He didn't know why, but that seemed like the only happy place in this place.
"It's quite lonely..." Amaterasu suddenly started. Link turned to Amaterasu as they peered into each other's eyes for once. It felt lovely for they haven't had the chance to let each other care for one another. They turned feeling blushed. "That the spirits can't see or hear us..."
"Yeah." Link responded, squeezing her paw in an attempt to reassure her. They both snorted as giggles.
"Huh?" Another voice said, making the two turn. They felt fright from a sudden appearance.
There, standing between the two of them was a man in a robe. He was holding a lantern, which was the only thing lighting up the dark cave they were in.
Link stood up.
"Who are you?" He asked with a strong voice.
"Why, I am the Sage of the Shadow Dragon Village. Now where are you going at this hour? It is frowned upon to enter the cave at night."
Amaterasu growled at the man.
Link didn't know about sages, but he knew it meant he was important. He walked a little closer.
He also knew that people of dark can be in Twilight.
"You're not with Akuma right? You know where we can find a Light Vessel?" Link asked, trusting the sage.
The sage looked at the white wolf, before looking back to Link.
"Hmm... you are brave to come here at night. I do not think the other villagers would."
"We're not with-!"
"What's there to be scared of?" Amaterasu interrupted Link before smiling at Link cutely. Link seemed to catch on. "The other villagers won't come near us. You saw them."
The Sage seemed to think about this, but he suddenly took two steps forward towards Amaterasu. Link cocked his eyebrow in ponder. Suddenly he took a good step back.
"Amaterasu, Goddess of the Sun." The sage suddenly bowed down.
Link had an instant effect. He felt his heart thump with such realization, it hurt. He saw Amaterasu's smile shatter to fright, and that confirmed the truth.
"...Y-You're a goddess?" Link asked, shocked.
Link suddenly felt Issun, the inch wanderer artist, hop from Amaterasu to Wolf Link's fur.
"Yes! Link, Amaterasu is in fact the Goddess of the sun!"
"Oh..." Link stepped back.
He didn't know what else to say, but this man was bowing to Amaterasu.
"Can you... can you cure my sister?"
Link felt sudden anguish, but he felt the need to go on. He would figure out his feelings later.
"Where's your sister?" Link asked.
"Rin is... over there..." The sage said, pointing to a sleeping bag at the side.
Rin was asleep. Amaterasu and Link's expression dimmers as they see what he meant. Rin was actually okay, asleep soundly. However, she was also a spirit.
Link turned to the Sage.
"What's your name?" Link asked.
"I am  Kamon. I am the Sage of the Shadow Dragon Village."
"We need to find five Light Vessels. Do you know where one is?" Link asked. The Sage of Shadows had to know.
"I do not, but if you seek the old ruins to the East, there is a chance you may find one."
"Are you sure?"
"Sorry, but I do not know where they are."
Amaterasu nodded, still nervous.
"Old ruins to the East. Got it. Thank you Kannon..." She turned with her head slightly down. "We'll come back and visit. I promise."
"I'll be here!" The sage said in a cheery tone.
A long walk that soon appeared caused them to track closer towards the path that would lead them to a trail that was dangerously close to Death Mountain. Gorons live here, who were Rock creatures that were known for their strength and kindness.
Many of them were saddened by the disappearance of the Hylian Royal Family, who were last seen passing through here on their way to somewhere, but nobody had seen them since.
Link was upset, and Issun saw this as he still rode in Link's fur.
"Don't worry! I'm sure they'll be found!"
"If they were found, wouldn't that mean that they aren't dead?"
Even when they made it to the path around Death Mountain, he was quiet. Though, that was mainly because he saw a Goron on the path. The big creature slowly approached them, only to reveal that he wanted some change for a song he was singing
"Give us something to eat."
Amaterasu seemed saddened as the Goron passed her. He was a spirit of course. Link was still too upset and barely dodged the singing Goron. They passed a few more Gorons that all looked the same.
"Do you think they've been told anything?"
"Doubt it."
Amaterasu suddenly saw Link looking down sad. Amaterasu frowned.
"What is it?" She asked sharply.
"Nothing." He shouted in response.
"Stop being so paranoid and just enjoy the moment!"
"Paranoid? You're the one who believes that we'll be attacked at any moment!"
"It's called being cautious! Twilight can be deadly! And it's you who always wants to enjoy this journey! We have a job to do!" She declared. Link finally snapped.
"Because you're a goddess right?!"
There was a long silence with only the wind sounding.
"Link..." She started, but he interrupted her.
"Whatever..." Link slowly walked past her. Amaterasu had a look of sadness. "I get it. You don't need to say anything."
She grabs his tail suddenly, but he pulls away.
"What the hell!?" He shouted.
"I'm sorry..."
Both of them suddenly became sad, and looked into each other's eyes again.
Their secret favorite moment was when they stared at each other's eyes….
"We'll find them..." She said in a quiet tone.
"KRAAAAAK!" Something suddenly roared.
Link and Amaterasu turned in a sudden fright, and saw something that felt like horror.
Dainn, the flying darkness bat was flying at them from a close distance.
He crashed right into them. The entire mountain shook with the impact, as rocks dropped from the cliffside.
Luckily, they both jumped hard, the impacts separated Link and Amaterasu.
"Ahhh!" They yelled out in shock and pain.
As they tried to get up, a black and red demon came from above them. It was a little disorientated, but it didn't take too much time for the creature to recover.
Link got up. He noticed he had fallen to the bottom of the path. Amaterasu was still on the cliffside. Link could easily climb the cliffside to get back to her side...
However there were suddenly Twilight demons all over this little valley. There were also the demons that were still on the path with Amateurs. They saw that Link and Amaterasu were separated and decided to finish off Amaterasu.
"No!" Link yelled, but as he was about to run towards her, Dainn landed hard in front of Link, and punted him.
He hit the ground and got up again, surprising the demon.
They were separated again, but this time by a group of demons.
"Ha ha ha!" The demons started to laugh.
Dainn pointed hard at Link. "You act as if someone like you had the right to guide a goddess..." Dainn mocked.
"Shut up, demon!" Link yelled and charged towards him.
The demons attacked as well, but they were using weapons made of fire and ice.
Link kicked off the ice, and it shattered in the demon's face.
Link jumped through the fire, and landed on the shield on his face, kicking off of it to land past the demons.
He used his claw to stab at the demon, and he hit one in the stomach.
They seemingly exploded, but the black smoke dissipated, to reveal a stronger demon.
Link ran hard, barely missing a huge swing of a mace.
He bit the mace's wielder in the back, and he fell down, but as Link tried to pass through, the mace user suddenly swung his mace and smacked into Link's head.
Link flung over closer to the cliffside, stunned. As the demons closed in, a second later Amaterasu's shield, the reflector, hit them with a blast of fire.
The demons were burned, but they didn't stop. They kept approaching. Amaterasu landed by Link.
"Are you okay?!" She asked, clearly concerned.
"I'm fine..." Link said as he got up.
By now the remaining demons were slowly backing away from the two of them.
"We can't fight these guys. We need to get out of here."
"Kinda too many of them for an easy escape." Issun, who still hid in Link's fur, mouthed in fright.
"Yeah… but we can't fall here…" Link mouthed back.
Suddenly there was a loud scream from above them, and the three looked up.
A twilight demon had appeared in midair.
Right then Link knew what he had to do.
Crash!
Amaterasu had tackled Link away from the demons, and this caused them to land in the midst of battle. The demons were terrified by the goddess' sudden appearance, and smacked Amaterasu off of Link.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!" Link yelled, and jumped at the demon. He bit hard, and ripped his face off, making it disappear into shadow.
Soon several demons were on the back sides of him,
"Out of my WAY!" Link cried out as he lashed out.
He kicked off one and bounced off another.
He soon kicked, spun, and bit really fast, thrashing through a few demons. He got faster and faster.
The demons tried to contain the fury of Wolf Link, but he smashed them away as he stared towards the top of the cliffside.
The demons and Amaterasu caught sight of Link as he had demons scattered around him, falling from his attack.
Dainn went closer to battle, but the demons continued their retreat.
"Ah! Get him! Finish him!" Dainn screamed, but the demons were running from him, and soon they were out of the forest at last.
Amaterasu saw a demon try to swing at her, but Link suddenly landed on it, killing the demon. Amaterasu saw pure determination mixed with pure anger in him.
"If any of you TRY TO TOUCH HER! I will kill you!" Link boldly declared.
The demons, terrified by his fury, quickly scattered. Soon they were running across the landscape, and quite frankly they could run a lot faster than those demons could fly.
"Wow..." Amaterasu exclaimed.
Link felt sore and he almost fell, but Amaterasu caught him.
"Keep your head up." Amaterasu advised.
"Yeah..." Link answered as he felt his energy drop. He was finally starting to feel weak.
"Let's get out of here." Issun suggested.
The trio slowly finally made it around Death Mountain. It took longer thanks to the sore Link and Amaterasu.
Soon, the Eastern side of Hyrule province was seen.
"Well it's been an adventure." Issun said.
Soon they saw a tall apple tree on a mound. Link thought it would be a better place than any to camp at that night.
"I'm tired as well, so let's camp here."
"Good idea." Amaterasu said. "We can all eat some apples."
As camp was set (Link making the fire and Amaterasu gathering apples.), there was an eerie silence between the two wolves.
Issun noticed they two were nervous to talk face to face.
"Hey you two! What's up? Why are you avoiding eye contact!?"
Amaterasu looked at him and she was about to speak, but then stopped.
"Uh...Nothing." She said nervously.
Link laughed, but then frowned at Issun. He flicked him away with his paw.
"Mind your own flea." Link mocked. Amaterasu turned to Link instantly mad.
"Hey!"
"What!?"
"It's not funny!" Amaterasu protested.
"Ahh, it's not that bad." Issun waved it away.
Issun laid against a branch and closed his eyes. He was sleepy and just wanted to sleep.
"Well it is to me." Link snapped. Then he growled, but it seemed to have been more at the sky than Issun.
Amaterasu settled back to the mound and eyed Link with a glare.
Both Link and Amaterasu were mad, but not at each other. They had a major desire for one another, but couldn't figure out a way to express it. Link being a human in a wolf body and Amaterasu being a sun goddess filled them with dread.
As the night went on, they both dreamed about each other.
Link dreamt of a endless white field with blue sky and one sun. It was a bright clean happy day.
Amaterasu was next him, and she cuddled right into his fur.
"Thank you for not giving up on me..." Amaterasu had said.
"How can I give up on you?" Link had responded.
"Because if you die, I die."
"You mean we're connected like this?"
"Yes."
Amaterasu on the other hand was dreaming about…
A black void with a face at the center. It roars and it's voice shakes the void.
"Ammy... Ammy... Come to me..."
"Come to me!" The voice hissed, and soon Amaterasu woke up with a jolt. This also woke Link up.
"Did you hear that?" Link asked. He too heard only but a small echo of a whisper.
"Yes..." Amaterasu responded.
"I think it was that demon that was trying to kill us..."
"Probably..."
Link sat up as Amaterasu got up slowly. He slowly scooted to her.
"Look we... need to talk..." Link started.
"No, we really don't." Amaterasu said as she suddenly turned around and got up. She started to walked away.
"Well I do."
"There's nothing to talk about."
Link stood up and walked behind her.
"And you really believe that..?" Link asked with a voice with a hint of care, sadness, and anger.
"Yes." She said coldly.
"OK... Well how about this? ….You're in my head right now."
"No I'm not."
"Yes, you are."
Amaterasu sat and turned to Link.
"Link..."
"'Link?'" He mocked.
"Just listen to me."
Amaterasu soon turned to the fire and stared hard at it.
"I'm a goddess ... All my life I protected the Earth for all of its needs..." She shook her head. "And I never focus on what I want..."
"You want me..."
She looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"No..." She lied. She had to try to protect her title, even how little she could.
But Link didn't believe her.
"Yes, yes you do!" He yelled as he stepped closer to her.
"Look in my eyes and tell me you don't!"
Amaterasu did so as she turned with a serious frown. However that frown seemed to shift when she looked into his green eyes.
His green precious innocent eyes...
She then looked away with a blush.
"Well?"
She looked back to him with a sigh.
"I think I have thought about it."
Link slowly went and sat by her. Link stared at the fire. She slowly sat as well.
"All my life... I focus on being this... Hero ... Yes, I have a job to do...but..." Link turned to Amaterasu slowly. "Isn't life more then... Our duty?... Even if you're a goddess... Don't you want something or someone to love you?" Link questioned.
Amaterasu fiddled with the top of her fur.
"It's not that easy... it's impossible..."
"You don't know that!"
She grabbed his paw and looked him dead in the eye.
"I ...I..." Link saw it in her eyes. Her strong expression was breaking into tears. "...I don't know how ... We could ... Make it work... I...do ...want .." She couldn't say it. She looked away again with a hard swallow.
"I love you..."
She let go of his paw and breathed heavily looking at the fire.
Link didn't move as she had said this. Amaterasu...loved him?
Amaterasu had a tear drop as it was hard to admit, because she felt guilty. However Link suddenly nuzzles under her muzzle, lifting her head up.
"I... love you too." Link admitted strongly.
"You do?" Amaterasu asked.
They stared into each other's eyes. Now Link blushed and looked away.
"You're strong... Cunning... Beautiful..." Link complimented.
"Oh?" Amaterasu raised an eyebrow.
"You deserve someone that can love you right."
"Right..."
Link slowly turned to her with butterflies in his gut. The feeling of love becoming an aura around him.
"So will you be mine?"
"What?"
"Be with me... if I may have the honor of...doing just that..."
"Oh..." Amaterasu thought about it. Link was cute, and funny... And he wanted to be with her.
Having a cute, funny boy want to be with you was nice. Link wasn't annoying like all the other guys she knew. There was no comparison.
She also had the chance to see Link fight wonderfully in battle. And having all her secrets protected. What could it hurt?
"I guess so."
She was with him. A hero.
And he to her.
A beautiful goddess.
Amaterasu couldn't help it. She leaned into his fur.
"Thank you."
She had to apologize though.
"I'm sorry about all that just happened."
She slowly hugged her paws around his waist as the sun had begun to set. Link embraced her, and he felt her warmth as his cheeks warmed up to her care.
"Don't be... I shouldn't have gotten mad at you... You're too amazing to yell at..." Link soothed.
"Can we do this again tomorrow? I... don't want to leave yet," she admitted.
"I sure hope so..."
She nuzzled under his chin with a small giggle.
Link and Amaterasu leaned back without letting go of one another, as they eyed each other with love in their eyes.
"... I think I'm falling for you, Ammy..."
She laughed.
"I really like you too..."
She had her arms around him and he embraced her back.
Link felt a moment spawning. Amaterasu smiled as she looked at her foot paws. Link held her chin back up.
Link leaned in for a kiss as his passion for her was immersive. She closed her eyes as he planted his paws on either side of her. He tilted his head down and their lips met.
She tasted like honey, and that made him want more.
Amaterasu embraced his kiss with her own, and she held onto him more tightly.
The twilight couple embraced as the moonlight lit their love for one another. They slept soundly through the night.
