Chapter 2: contact
Oscar falls face first on the floor before he pulls his face off and gets up dusting himself off as he looks around and sees that he's in what looks like a town square. "Where am I?" Ask Oscar as he looks up to see the sky is slightly grey and cloudy. He then begins to walk around trying to see if he can find anybody to tell him where he is. The teen looks around seeing countless mirrors floating around the landscapes with black smoke coming out of them, Oscar gulps "What is this place?" He asks while walking on a path that he found. While he's walking he sees that even the tree trunks have mirrors. He reaches a small run down town.
Most of the buildings are old and falling apart with most of the widows being boarded up and some have vegetation growing in them. Though he should be used to that detail, Oscar found it odd that there were mirrors placed seemingly everywhere around. He walks to the closest mirror being a small square one and pokes it causing the glass to ripple like water before revealing a boy with wavy unkempt black hair and dark gray eyes, wearing an unbuttoned black blazer over a black-trimmed cream sweater, blue jeans and brown shoes. He watches as the boy puts on some glasses before leaving the room he's in. Oscar then walks away continuing his search of the town.
He finds another mirror with silver color edges in the shape of a rectangle; he touches it curious to see what happens. The glass ripples show an image of a red head with two pointy hairs on top of his head, he is in what he could see a bedroom this time he can hear him mumbling something but can't hear it. He was about to walk away to find his way home but he suddenly heard a loud screech through the town as all the mirrors near him suddenly crack.
Oscar looked at the area where the roar came from and quickly went the other way to avoid whatever it was that made the sound. As he's running the ground begins to shake slightly in a slow rhythm. He then makes a beeline to the nearest house and crashes through the old rotten door and searches for a place to hide. He looks around before he hides in a room with a broken Mirror hanging on the wall. He squats as whatever it is, it sounds big and it's near. As he hears it getting close he can hear multiple steps of whatever it is.
Oscar stays as still as he can waiting for whatever the things were to go away and hoping that it wouldn't find him. He continues to hide for a bit before leaving the room. He sneakily makes his way to a window and checks outside to make sure that nothing is around. After making sure nothing was around he stops sneaking and walks to the dining room and grabs what looked like the least damaged chair and takes a seat releasing a sigh. He leans back but as he does the back of it breaks causing him to fall back into the mirror behind him. "Oh my Oum!" says Oscar as he falls through the mirror and ends up getting through the mirror back in his room on his back. "Owww'' says Oscar as he looks around to find himself back in his room.
Next morning
"What a funny story Oscar" says Weiss as she is drinking water and taking a rest as she is finished with her laps. They were in gym class with their friend Ruby and her popular sister Yang and the gym coach Taiyang the father of the two girls. Oscar looks at her while hearing their teacher yelling "Is that the best you can do, my grandmother can run faster than that!!" As he grinds students to the bone. As some were completely covered in sweat and were basically dead tired, "Come on it's true you gotta believe me!!" Slightly yells the farm boy. "Oscar, look at this from my point of view, you come in today randomly talking about this other world inside of your mirror with some kind of monster that you never saw. That honestly just sounds like you had a nightmare" says Weiss as she goes to the next exercise the coach had planned. Oscar sits there thinking about what Weiss had said "Hmm maybe she's right, I mean it was pretty crazy what I saw" Oscar is suddenly shaken from his thought process by Whitley who had just finished his own laps. "Hey don't let what Weiss said get to you" says Whitley as Oscar lightens up. "Does that mean you believe me!" Says Oscar with some new energy and excitement. "Hey Pines if you've got the energy to be talking then you have the energy to do the workout!" Yells the teacher. Oscar immediately tenses up after hearing this. "Yes Mr. Xiao long!" Yells Oscar. "Hehe good luck" says Whitley with a slightly smug grin.
The brown-haired teen reaches the race track beginning, and his racing partner is "Hi" He says as he comes next to a gray-haired male teen and the redhead girl from earlier. The male just ignores him as he continues his stretches but the red-haired girl waves "Hello there, weren't you with Jaune?" She asks as the male student stops for a moment to listen. Oscar noods "Ya I just met him yesterday in person but I do follow his YouTube channel!" He excitedly exclaims as the gray hair just shakes his head as he says "of course".
"Alright people, on your marks, get ready, GO!" Yells Mr. Xiao long as the three of them begin to speed off with all three starting at a similar paces but as it continues Oscar is quickly left behind by the two older students and just stopped trying to catch up to them but slowed to a modest pace as he watched the two run ahead with Pyrrha keeping a consistent lead over the grey haired boy without breaking a sweat while the grey haired boy was exerting himself a bit to keep the distance short. The race ended after Oscar had crossed the line as the others waited. "Pyrrha nice job, Mercury go a little easier on your legs next time unless you want to start cramping and Oscar you did pretty decent considering who you went up against" says Mr. Xiao long as he makes them move on so the next three could start.
Oscar pats heavily feeling his body about to be destroyed. Pyrrha walks up to Mercury who is drinking water, "um ahh Mercury can i speak with you?" She asks hoping for something but the gray-haired teen shoots it down "Don't speak with me, don't speak with my brother" and it being convenient the bell rang signalling a change of class. He walks away while the redhead sighs in depression.
Oscar watches with curiosity as the two walk. He stares for a bit lost in thought. "Hello Oscar, earth to Oscar" says Whitley as he shakes Oscar's shoulder snapping him out of his trance. "So what's got you so focused?" Asked Whitley. "Oh uh I'm just wondering what the redhead did to have two different guys seemingly hate her" says Oscar as Whitley looks at him with some internet expectations. 'Sigh' "I'm surprised you don't already know this Oscar" says Whitley with some disappointment. Oscar gives him a look telling him to explain. "That grey haired guy is Jaune's brother Mercury Black, and before you ask he took their dad's last name while Jaune took their mother's" says Whitley as Oscar gets a face of realization. "Alright that's on me but can you explain why they're avoiding her?" says Oscar as Whitley stands there staying silent. "That's what I thought, now let's go before we're late" says Oscar as they begin walking through the hallway when an announcement is made. *"Will all the students that have signed up for the exchange program please report to my office"* says the voice of Ozpin as the message ends. "Welp looks like we're taking a detour" says Whitley as they change course.
After a few minutes of walking they arrive at the headmasters office and enter to see all the others from last time. "Ahh good now that you've all arrived I can begin the announcement" says Ozpin. The headmaster waits for everyone to sit down. When everyone is seated, he begins speaking "Tomorrow morning you will be sent to night raven college" he explains making everyone slightly surprised, Pyrrha asks "Wasn't that supposed to be next week?" She asks, confused by the announcement. Ozpin takes a sip out of his coffee mug before speaking "Well the hurry is because of a storm coming the next week it was moved forward so you guys can get accustomed to the dorms" he explains as everyone noods. The headmaster sighs but continues talking "So when you arrive back home get things prepared. You are dismissive" he explains.
"Welp guess we're heading out early aren't we Whitley" says Oscar with clear unease in his voice. "Why do you sound nervous, it's not like you're moving to a different country" says Whitley with a slight chuckle. Hearing this Oscar gains a smile. "Thanks man" says Oscar as they head to class.
Timeskip brought by chibi Oscar looking through another mirror before falling through it and crashing a meeting between students wearing red bands that say S.E.E.S
"Grandma, I'm home!" Yells Oscar as he walks up the stairs. "Ahh Oscar I heard about you heading out to that other college so I had packed your suitcase for you, now your dinner is on the table so eat quick and get some rest dear" says Grandma Pines. "Alright grandma!" Says Oscar as he grabs his plate and brings it upstairs and puts it on his bedside table before laying down and heading to bed.
In the velvet room
Oscar suddenly wakes up falling backwards off the chair hitting his head on the floor. "Ow!!" Groans the teen as he stands up as he rubs the back of his head, he hears a snort from next to him "really this is the guy wild card it?" Says a rough voice that he knows he heard from before 'Smack' "Be more respectful to the patient Qrow" says a smoother voice that he also knows. He gets up and sits on the chair and looks at the two velvet clad assistants. "Hello Oscar" says Winter. "Hey Farm Boy" says Qrow, gaining an odd look from Oscar as he just smirks.
"That's what you're gonna call me from now on isn't it" says Oscar as Qrow just nods. "Yep" says Qrow as he leans back in his chair as Oscar sighs while winter gives him a dirty look. "Hehehehe now, Winter be nice it's just some joking" says Igor with his signature grin on his face. "Now then honored guest there are many things you should be wary of". Oscar looks interested at what was said. *"Hehe glad to have your attention, while you may not know it your journey is about to begin with many challenges you must face and when you do, will you have the strength to face them" says Igor.
Oscar looked confused as he was about to ask a question when suddenly the room started to shake. The teen looks around seeing everything begin to shatter like glass as Winter speaks "Times up, see you next time honored guest" she says before her section shatters. Qrow coughs but waves his hand "See ya later kid" before he himself and his section shatter. Igor chuckles making Oscars look at him when Igor starts to shatter "Next time you visit your journey truly begins" when he finishes everything including igor shatters like glass making Oscar fall to a black void, screaming.
Beep, beep, beep
Oscar gets up panting and looking around only to calm down when he realizes that he's no longer in the velvet room but instead he's on his own. He then thinks about what Igor had said. 'Knock,knock,knock' "Oscar get ready or you're gonna be late on the first day" says his grandma before walking down the stairs. Oscar was a bit confused before realizing what she said and quickly gets ready sloppily putting on his regular uniform with the shirt not tucked, the jacket open and the tie loose on his neck. He then grabs his suitcase and rushes downstairs stopping in the kitchen and getting a cup of juice drinking it as fast as he can. "Ahh niño slow down or you're gonna choke" says his grandma as she makes some scrambled eggs. "Sorry grandma but I don't have much time the schools coming to get me any minute now" 'Honk, honk' as soon as he's done saying that a car horn is heard and Oscar looks outside to see a limo waiting in front of the house with Whitley poking his upper half out waving. "Ahh that's them, bye grandma I'll miss you!" Yells Oscar as he grabs his suitcase and runs outside to the limo door that Whitley opened. "Woah buddy calm down the world isn't ending" says Whitley as Oscar just gives him a side eye. "You know I'm not a morning person and considering how early this limo was coming my sleep schedule is messed up" says Oscar ignoring all the others in the limo staring at him. "Haha yeah but hey you made it and that's what's important" says Whitley as Oscar just flicks him on the head. "Don't go getting all cheesy on me" says Oscar before he began to fix himself.
Small timeskip brought by a comparison of Whitley and Oscar in the morning with Whitley full of energy and Oscar zonked out.
"We've arrived at the destination" says the driver as the limo stops and everyone gets out to see Night Raven college where they'll be staying.
