Chapter 2.

B in RWBY

Hazel led her team to their seats, organized by team and school. Coincidentally, they were seated directly to the left of team RWBY. Hazel often played coy about how much she knew about the team from Beacon, not wanting to treat their lives in universities like celebrity drama, but being next to them sort of felt like sitting next to someone famous. They started across the rows toward their seats, as Eminence was the first to notice the bickering team. "I'm pretty sure that's…"

"Blake Belladonna." Hazel quickly finished.

"I was going to say team RWBY, but you aren't technically wrong." Eminence chuckled.

"She is the B in RWBY." Hazel mumbled as they stepped over various legs to make it to their seats. Hazel found herself seated next to Blake as she looked out over the arena, trying not to pay too much attention to the shadowy figure beside her. Something about the girl was different to Hazel, but she couldn't quite place a finger on it. It wasn't anything obvious, like her bookishness, her clear status as the quiet one, or her completely being Hazel's type, there was just something about the girl that she couldn't figure out. Hazel didn't mean to stare, but Blake was undeniably attractive, and she quickly caught a warning elbow from Eminence, letting her know she'd been staring entirely too long.

Blake sighed as she managed to tune out her teammates bickering, giving her almost undivided attention to her book. The small remainder of her focus made her subtly aware of green eyes carefully examining her, and she made note to not let her ears move, as careful inspection would notice a bow seeming to move on its own. Blake was always a little suspicious of everyone, but Hazel was different. Blake quickly pieced together that something about the girl's identity was wrong, and she didn't match what Blake thought she could. People from Vacuo were usually only tanned in the face and hands, covering the rest of their bodies in long sleeves to protect from the constant sandstorms. They typically had sun-bleached hair, the rest of her team having obvious highlights, but Hazel's hair was impressively dark. Hazel was slightly tanned, but it reminded Blake more of the tan the Faunus on Menagerie had, the island's beach-like weather not usually allowing and paleness. Blake thought she confirmed her suspicions when she glanced up from her book, just in time to see a crease in Hazel's red hat seem to shift on its own, in a way a bow never would...
