She didn't know what time it was.
Buttercup didn't really know anything at the moment except where she was and what she was doing. On the roof sprawled out wasn't that bad of an activity when everything else sucks. She was staring up at the sky, clouds covered most of the stars but the moon still shone brightly. She felt so dull and her ear hurt from all the punctures. The Professor let her pick where and what went on her ears and promised to make many cool things for her to enjoy the designs.
At the moment she had three studs and 4 cuffs on her left and two chains on her right. She liked the look and it was close to what she wanted for Christmas but she was still bitter.
Why did something she wanted so badly have to block out a part of her.
She felt off like something was missing. She knew she would be like this for at least a couple days .
She felt useless and weak but most of all annoyed. No matter how hard she strained she couldn't hear a damn thing going on in the house. She couldn't hear the footsteps or the voices.
She couldn't hear if Bubbles was done making cookies. She couldn't smell them either or anything for that matter. If she couldn't detect anything with her nose, how the hell was she going to use her other senses. Physically the blockers could only do so much since she worked out so much but still hearing like a human made her antsy.
Which is why when she finally did hear footsteps there was already a Blink standing over her, plate in hand.
"Your home." She told her grey sister who nodded before taking a seat next to the sprawled girl on the floor. "So the boss made you finish your shift even after fighting a giant monster?" Though it shouldn't even be a question of course he would make her finish her shift that man was a slave driver.
"I hardly did anything in that battle." Blink sighed offering the plate of cookies.
"Let's see peanut butter, double chocolate, and macadamia nuts, Bubs must feel bad for me." Their little sister wasn't a stress baker. Baking was like when she did something she didn't tell anyone about. She used sweets or little gifts to make people feel better.
"Did she make these?" Of course they looked perfect on the outside but Bubbles had a habit of getting 'creative' and going completely off the rails.
"I dunno, you usually can smell if she puts in something 'creative' like ponzu or chili powder." Blink said, picking up one for herself.
"Then this is a surprise then?"
"Guess so."
"Least we're not like Blossom with hyper taste." Buttercup said jokingly though it stung cause she had hyper nothing at the moment.
The two stared at each other, cookies hovering next to their mouths before finally they took a bite. Buttercup had picked up the peanut butter and to her relief it didn't have any weird exotic ingredient in it. It was warm and melted in her mouth, a real win on Bubbles' part.
"It's not as sweet as I thought." Blink grinned lazily, taking another bite of her double chocolate.
"So why did you walk up here?" Buttercup asked, breaking the macadamia nut.
"I assumed you'd be dulled and didn't want to get mauled." Blink shrugged, giving her usual short answer.
Buttercup rolled her eyes. "I'm not going to maul you like a bear besides you're only wearing two blockers. I've got 11."
"I don't know, I think even like this you could take me down. Though I guess you're not feeling up to anything."
"What do you mean?"
"I didn't think you'd be here." She acted like Buttercup would understand what that meant.
"Why wouldn't I still be here?" Green eyes stared at the grey girl in confusion.
"I just thought you'd be where you usually go when you sulked." Silence lingered for a moment longer. "Mojos."
Buttercup could feel her face begin to heat up in the cold night and she hated it. Her hands balled into fist as her eyes narrowed, a complete contrast to her sister's silvery half lidded eyes.
"I do not!"
"So you weren't heading towards the park? You didn't walk out the house, tried to fly then release it wasn't an option so you walked back in?" Blink asked, her arms wrapping around her knees drawing them closer to her.
Buttercup eyes cast down to the plate then back to her sister who had squeezed herself into a cocoon.
"You talked to Bubbles before coming up here didn't you!" Narrowing her eyes, her hand pushed onto the girl's face in an attempt to knock her out of her ridiculous position.
The push was feeble Buttercup knew it and Blink knew it but still she toppled over like she would have if her green sister would have been at full strength.
"Seriously Blink?" Buttercup grumbled rolling her eyes as the girl stayed on the floor. "What are you doing up here anyway?"
"I thought you'd be miserable and thought of something to make it better." Blink said bluntly, rolling over on her back.
"Yeah and what's that?" Buttercup asked, rolling her eyes.
"We can go for a drive." A chain slowly slithered out of her sister's shadow dangling the car keys in front the green girl's face.
"Like the back roads?" Buttercup asked with a grin slowly growing on her face.
In Townsville there weren't that many back roads but they lived on the outskirts where there were a few. Mitch showed Buttercup the back roads back in freshman year when he got his old beat truck. Mitch told her it was like a roller coaster but free and she fell in love with the thrill. She showed her sisters but that was more or less a mistake, Blossom was too concerned about the car's brakes and Bubbles was banned because she nearly put her foot through the car's gas petals. That was almost impossible to explain and they had to get the Professor to fix it.
Blink was the only one to agree to go out with her after that. So when she was able to steal the keys away from Blossom she would ask Blink to come with. It was one of the few things they did together outside of their sister.
"How did you get those?"
"Took them when I got home after taking you two to the Professor. I thought you were going to need something after the day you had."
"When did you get so considerate?"
"I didn't. But I have a feeling." Blink sighed.
"A feeling?"
"Blossoms still at Bellums. I think we should go before Bubbles offers us those spearmint brownies she had in the ovens."
"Yeah you're right." Buttercup agreed and they were off the car then to the back roads.
No one can really pinpoint when the earthquakes started some say they had always happened others say it only started happening at a specific time. Either way the town had changed because of natural disasters. The town was turned into sections or blocks and at some point years ago rebuilt to compensate.
There was block A where the mayor's office and private schools were. It was the most expensive plot of real estate in Townsville. It was the furthest away from the shore where the earthquakes always took place. There was block B where the hospitals, banks and expensive stores resided. There was block C where the public schools resided along with most apartments, shops and malls.
There was block D It was more compact than the others; it was mostly avoided when the usual times for earthquakes came around. Then there was block F despite the beach being popular, the rural area was for the most part abandoned.
Not many people wanted a beach side apartment or house when there was a chance of everything being destroyed.
Though there was activity there in the abandoned buildings that used to be a toy factory.
"Boss it's not lookin' good for em' i think don't know how long he's gonna last the infection is spreadin." A familiar man said in a hissy voice.
"Damn it!" Another voice said harshly tossing something to the harsh metal. "If we weren't screwed over by those goons we could have gotten those doctors!"
"It wasn't the goons it was who ever stopped them!" It was the same voice that visited the goons in their cell. "There were four of them and the tranq was the same one that Snake got shot with last night." The voice belonged to the fastest of his gang Lil Arturo.
This is the fourth time he had brought up the four that the men in the cell had spoken of. He had even brought the tranq to the boss but it all was for not Ace just wouldn't listen.
"That means we know who has been stopping our heists and robberies. That's good isn't it." He tried to go back to his earlier suggestion.
"Grubber never saw any girls in color on the cameras. I'm not about to believe anything anyone injected with that serum says."
"He was an eyewitness the serum hadn't kicked in. Listen if we just tell them then they'll understand our problem and they'll help us."
"Understand?" Ace asked dryly. "Arturo, those people kicked us to the curb and left us in our worst condition yet. We don't need them or they're crazy scientists poking us like lab rats!"
"They'll understand if we show them the evidence. If we get those freaks we can be brought back into the organization. We'll have our territory back with our underground power!" The little man's bodies got more jittery as the day passed as he thought more about giving the freaks to the organization and being forgiven.
"We're not asking them for another thing. We get what we need on our own. We will get those doctors on our own. Do you hear me Arturo? We could get on our knees and beg and they will squish us like the insect they think we are. They left us to die not even bothering to kill us themselves because we are that below them." Ace growled like he always did when some one bothered to defy him
The little man didn't say anything, he just disappeared into the night, his speed carrying him wherever he wanted to go.
"He didn't even care how Grubber was doing." Snake hissed sourly. "He doesn't understand anything, he acts like a kid. He thinks that organization is our savior. They left us to die and he refuses to see it. They did this to us!"
"We're going to get those doctors there to fix us." Ace said, sinking into his chair.
"What about the girls in colors. If they're real, what are we going to do?" Snake asked.
"Kill them. We can't do much in the state we're in but we can inject them with Grubbers serum. They'll turn on each other while we're getting fixed."
Snake didn't ask how Ace knew that the doctors would save them or how he came up with those particular doctors but he was determined to get them. Snake had always been loyal and would stay that way till the end so he had no questions just went to check on Big Billy who was whaling in the next room.
