Chapter one:

Kaoru glances up to the high school that he is going to. He looks down slightly and begins walking towards the entrance.

Most of the boys move away from him finding him weird which isn't anything new.

Kaoru doesn't really care. He is used to it. He hardly notices some of the female students eyeing him up like a good smelling piece of meat. He only gets those looks because of the friends that had taken him in. He can still remember how he had first met the leader of the group of friends in Jr high. He often was apart from the others and pushed them away with some cruelness. He figured that no one actually wanted to be his friend or even go out with him. He figured anyone doing so was just trying to do something for their futures. Like being able to get their families to work together. He is the only known child of his family after all.

Then that blonde male came up to him in the courtyard. "Hi! I am Tamaki!" He offered a hand to Kaoru then. "And I would like to be your friend." He had this kind look to him and he had this naïve glint in his eyes.

"You just want to try to bring a deal between our families." Kaoru had accused of him causing Tamaki to blink at this.

"No." Tamaki gave him some wide sad eyes. "I mean it. I just want to be friends. You can join me and my other friends."

Kaoru had brushed Tamaki off only to find out how persistent and stubborn the other was. He eventually gave in agreeing to try it for a little bit. He just wanted the other to stop by showing his true colors… Though he had been surprised by the results. He found that Tamaki never asked to meet his family or anything.

Tamaki had his sole focus on Kaoru himself.

It had surprised Kaoru who had expected him to try to get to his family so the blonde could get over being friends with him. So since then he had been with the group of friends that all warmly welcome him.

"You have a good set of friends." An all too familiar voice mentions by Kaoru's ear.

Kaoru pauses in his walking and turns to the one only he can see.

A floating figure that grew up along with him that looks a lot like him but a little different. A figure that made Kaoru so different than the normal human.

Kaoru didn't care about interacting with this figure around others, a figure that he has named Hikaru when he was younger since the figure didn't know his own name. He gained quite the reputation that he didn't care about because of him interacting with what most call an imaginary friend.

Hikaru feels so real to Kaoru though so shrugging off those words is easy. He also sometimes seems to be able to read Kaoru's mind like they have a special connection.

Just as easy as the looks were easy to shrug off.

"I do." Kaoru confirms and turns back to where he is going. He sees his friends in a group chatting.

Tamaki, Kyouya, Hunny, and Mori.

Tamaki seems to notice him and waves excitedly at him.

Kaoru smiles and heads over to them where the group greet him.

"Good morning Kao-Chan!" Hunny smiles happily.

Mori just nods as quiet as ever.

Kyouya adjusts the glasses on his face. "It looks like it is going to be a good day. Don't you say?"

Kaoru nods in response to Kyouya. "Yeah. It seems that way." He had told them about Hikaru during their friendship. He can still remember their reactions that were a surprise.

"Wow! So he's like a ghost that follows you around?" Hunny had inquired with curiosity in his eyes to which Kaoru shrugged back then not sure himself.

"Intriguing." Kyouya had seemed to want to study this.

"Well you're still our friend." Tamaki had told him as he had put an arm around him. "And I am glad you felt you could share this information with us."

Kaoru is still glad for their support. He may have not thought he needed anyone however when he found his group of friends he felt happy to have them.

"How are you both today?" Hunny inquires to Kaoru talking about both Hikaru and Kaoru.

Sometimes Kaoru's friends do ask about Hikaru as if they have also accepted him as a part of them… Even though they can't see him.

"We're doing good." Kaoru assures Hunny who grins at hearing this.

"Alright. Now that we are all hear let me bring up something with you all." Tamaki brings their attention to him as he stands tall. "I think I have the event that we weren't sure what to do for our club." He pulls out a piece of paper out of his school bag showing it them as they move closer to get a look at it.

The piece of paper shows some pictures and notes on a pirate theme get togethers.

Tamaki puts the paper away before anyone else sees. "We can discuss this later in our club room. But I wanted to plant that seed in your minds."

They all turn as the bell rings meaning that they need to get to class. They give see you laters and head off to their own classes.

"A pirate theme?" Hikaru hums holding onto Kaoru's shoulder as he heads to class. "Maybe I could be your parrot that sits on your shoulder." He jokes as Kaoru gets to his desk.

Kaoru snorts in laughter and settles into his desk as Hikaru moves to float next to him. "An invisible parrot." He teases back making Hikaru chuckle. He notices the out of place student enter and sit down at the desk next to him.

The only commoner in this entire high school. Haruhi.

Most think that Haruhi is a male though no one seems to know for sure; especially thanks to how Haruhi looks. Not that most really care about that as Haruhi doesn't seem to really need friends.

Kaoru can still remember when he was like that before he had met his friends. He doesn't like to try to make new friends though so he just mostly ignores Haruhi. He may have friends of his own but that doesn't mean he hasn't let go of his trust issues. He doesn't actually trust those outside of his friend group.

They haven't earned his trust yet, like his group of friends have, as far as he cares.

Kaoru pulls out his notebook as the teacher enters the class at the second bell indicating that classes are starting. He tries to focus on the lesson wanting to get school done with, even though that means not falling behind in his work. He does silently admit that where he struggles Hikaru seems to thrive in so the other offers help in places he isn't strong in. He does plan to keep his friends as his friends even after school has ended.

They are like a family by this point so of course they are the ones Kaoru wants to keep in contact with.

A part of Kaoru has a feeling that today is going to be interesting though he isn't sure why. He guesses he'll just find out.
