Chapter five:
Kaoru is chilling with the guests that had picked him.
"Oh. You really prefer to do whatever you want don't you?" One of the girls leans closer to Kaoru blushing.
Kaoru shrugs to this. "I don't see why I should care what those others think. I can do what I want to." He mentions casually as the girls swoon over him doing this. "Though it is nice to be around you girls. So I guess this club can have me." He gets the girls to squeal and be swooning for a few moments. He glances as Hikaru comes over to Kaoru.
"From my observations the girls seem to like Haruhi." Hikaru tells the other his spying material since others can't see him. "She just is casual and they seem to think that her being strong despite being a commoner is cute."
"Go figure." Kaoru mutters to Hikaru and turns back to his guests as they recover from the swoon.
Hikaru stays by Kaoru for the rest of the time of the host club time.
Kaoru after it is all done is heading to get to the front of the school to get to the limo waiting for him.
"Kaoru! Wait!"
Kaoru stops and turns around to see Haruhi hurrying over to him. "What is it you want? Shouldn't you be going home?" He inquires to the other raising an eyebrow to her.
"Actually. I was hoping maybe I could talk to you for a moment." Haruhi admits staring right into Kaoru's eyes even as they narrow in suspicion.
"You want to know more about Hikaru. Don't you?" Kaoru states as he clenches his teeth finding this to be rather annoying. "Listen here you. There is nothing mentally wrong about it. I have been checked by the best out there. All throughout my life. Hikaru is a part of me and that is all."
"What does he look like?" Haruhi inquires not seeming to even flinch under the unfriendliness.
Kaoru supposes he can entertain her a little though won't let her try anything that might lead her to try to get rid of Hikaru. "He looks like me but his bangs are parted to the other side." He tells her to which he does notice that this little information intrigues her. "And don't go trying that projection of something about myself. That has been proven false by a few professionals." He warns her to which she nods being able to tell that she needs to back off. "If we are done with this stupid questionnaire then I think it is time that we go home." He watches her for confirmation of this.
"Actually I do have one more question." Haruhi informs him to which Kaoru blinks wondering what now. "Did you have a brother that passed away?"
Kaoru is about to tell her that he doesn't when he finds himself pausing. He doesn't remember any mention of a brother before… Then again his parents did seem to hold some sadness especially in the earlier years that he can remember of his life. He pushes those thoughts away for now. "I was never told of any brothers or sisters." He informs Haruhi.
"I see. Then just a small thought maybe Hikaru could be a brother you lost?" Haruhi then turns. "Just a thought. I am no expert though I will admit that I do find you kind of interesting Kaoru. Maybe we'll get a chance to get to know each other better. But you're right. We should be getting home. I'll see you tomorrow." With that she heads off on her way.
Kaoru turns to watch her go not really sure what to make of her anymore… Though the thought of Hikaru being a brother of his won't leave his mind… Could it be true?
It could explain why they grew up together always seeming to be the same age, Hikaru can manifest clothes onto his body by focusing how he looks though he has always looked like a slightly different version of Kaoru; He could never change that about himself.
Kaoru had always thought that it was because they were connected so closely. He however wonders if there is a little bit of a mix of that Hikaru is a brother that was supposed to grow up with him mixed in with their connection. He finds the idea slightly chilling at how accurate it could very well be.
"Kaoru?" Hikaru's voice snaps him back to reality and he looks worried when Kaoru turns to him. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah." Kaoru nods. "I was just thinking."
"About if I am a passed away sibling." Hikaru confirms that he had seen Kaoru's thoughts. He slightly glances away. "I think that it could make sense too. But there is no way that your parents… Maybe our parents… Would admit it. They just think that there is something wrong with you. Plus if they figure it out then they could try to cast me away like some kind of demon."
"I know." Kaoru breathes and slightly turns away. "I actually think I have an idea." He glances to Hikaru and the two share a smile both knowing what this idea is.
"It could work." Hikaru agrees to it. "Let's try it."
Kaoru leads the way to the limo as they definitely need to get home now.
At home Kaoru pretends like everything is usual while Hikaru moves away from the other.
Hikaru heads to try to locate Kaoru's parents and finds them in the office. He floats over to them as they are sitting in desk chairs facing each other. He notices that they both look rather serious.
"So. About this idea of another for being an heir." Kaoru's mother looks down as if still a little hesitant. "I think it is a good idea. However what if it turns out the same as before? Or that there is something else wrong with the child? We don't have long to think about this. In a few years I will be around the age where I will lose my ability to have kids. We have to make a decision now."
Kaoru's father nods his head. "I know. And I am willing to try again. Surely it can't go worse than the last time. Plus we could have a chance of an heir. A true normal heir."
"I am just terrified. We should have had two children and not just some mentally warped single child. We should have known better. The signs were there." Kaoru's mother looks up as her husband reaches out placing his hands on her shoulders.
"We can." Kaoru's father points out as the two stare at each other. "We can fix this. Our past mistake of having Kaoru doesn't have to be how our reputation goes. It doesn't matter whether or not he had a chance to be normal. This really isn't just something he is going to grow out of. We have waited more than long enough to prove that. So let's try again. Try to make this right."
Kaoru's mother nods her head in agreement to this. "But what do we do about Kaoru?"
"Well. We will talk to him. I'm sure he'll understand. He doesn't really seem interested in the family business anyways." Kaoru's father tells his wife as the two of them get up to hug one another. "When we make sure he understands that we won't be passing anything down to him then maybe we can find something for him to do, or he can do that. Then as he goes off on his own we can distance ourselves as much as we need to."
Kaoru's mother nods to this then they pull apart and head out.
Hikaru heads back to Kaoru to share what he had heard.
