Sorry this is coming slowly. I hope you all will accept this as my Grizzmas gift to you. Enjoy!
A/N:
"Sorry I'm late, did I miss anything?"
The newcomer spoke, Nick was prepared to offer a good tongue lashing for entering in such a rude and distasteful manner. But mother nature cut him off.
"Jack?!" She said in disbelief.
Jack? Where had Nick heard that name before?
"That's my name! Don't wear it out or you'll have to buy me a new one! Hahaha!" He hopped over to where Fin sat, taking the bottle of whatever he was drinking into his own paw and took a large gulp himself.
"Jack, what are you doing here?" Mother nature asked.
"...Hello…"
"Well this is a meeting of legendary figures is it not? And I, as a heralder of an entire season, am a legendary figure, am I not?" Jack said in reply, earning a glare from mother nature who crossed her arms. "By the way, where's Santa anyway? We can't have a party without the big guy."
"This is not a party but a council meeting, Jack. And this," she gestured to Nick, "is the new Santa. Saint Nicholas."
Nick stood straight and looked at the rabbit with a neutral grin. Jack seemed to look him up and down for a moment before responding.
"Are you sure? He doesn't look like much of a Santa. Rather short if you ask me." Jack replied cheekly.
"You would already know this if you would attend a meeting more than once every couple of centuries." Bogo said stoically. To which Jack just rolled his eyes and took another drink.
"I hate to interrupt but perhaps we could return to the matter at paw." Nick said as he snapped his fingers and relit the fire.
As the flames leapt back to life Jack gave a shiver and moved to the back of the room next to the window where it was coldest.
"...Santa…" Nick looked to see Flash reaching his paw out to him. "...nice...to...meet...you."
Everyone in the room rolled their eyes as they waited for Father Time to finish his greeting. Nick simply smiled and took the offered paw. "The pleasure is mine."
"Well, I believe we can get started then." Mother Nature entoned.
And so the meeting started with each member of the council giving a report of their last year and the status of the world from their point of view till it was Jack's turn.
"So, Jack, would you care to give us an update for the last several centuries?" Mothernature asked.
"Winter is still cold, snow still plagues the mortals and I do enjoy bringing them their yearly blizzards." He smiled back.
"A bit too much!" Harrumphed the easter bunny.
"Oh come now Janet, I thought as a fellow hare you would enjoy some antics every now and then." Jack replied.
"I'm not above a joke here and there but causing a blizzard during a holiday of new birth Jack! Do you have any idea how many newborn lives were put at risk because of your recklessness?"
"No more than in years past." He dismissed, looking at the back of his paw as though it were more interesting than the current conversation. "You know as well as anyone else that I do not control the ebbs and flows of winter. I merely herald it's coming." Jack gave the easter bunny a look of malice to go with a threatening tone. He seemed to enjoy the way Janet's nose bounced when he spoke.
"Enough!" Mother Nature interrupted. "I think it's time we took a break. We will reconvene in one hour."
The various members of the group dispersed amongst themselves. A couple took the liberty to leave the room and stretch their legs so to speak. Including Nick, who had just reached the door when suddenly Jack jumped in front of him.
"Ah! Saint Nicholas, do forgive me. I believe we got off on the wrong foot. Allow me to properly introduce myself."
Jack took a slight step back and spread his arms to the side. "Jack Frost, at your service!" He finished with a bow.
"Saint Nicholas." He responded with a slight bow of his head.
"Well, now that the formalities are out of the way. Do you mind if I give myself a tour of the workshop? It's not often I get to mingle with my own kind."
"Of course, make yourself at home." It felt necessary to be so polite and accommodating. Though Jack had proven to be a bit of a wild card so far he was still a legendary figure and Nick hadn't quite figured out the pecking order among the group yet. But there was someone he trusted that might be able to tell him more.
"Judy?" He called as he entered their now shared living area.
"Over here." She replied from the kitchen. Nick quickly found her preparing a meal for the two of them. A real surprise to him as he didn't really picture Judy as the homemaker type. Though after they were formally wed it was something she took a liking to. Saying she enjoyed learning to cook things that he liked and seeing him enjoy her cooking often made her day. "How'd the meeting go?"
"Well enough I suppose. It's rather dull and I'm not sure what the point of it is." Nick replied, leaning against the countertop next to her.
"Wish I could tell you. I asked mom and dad once but they didn't really seem to know either. Just said it was a way for the powers that be to catch up with each other."
"Hmm," he grunted, "apparently it's not mandatory. Jack Frost hasn't been to one in centuries."
"Jack Frost? Who's that?" Judy asked.
"You've never heard of him?" She shook her head no. "Well, apparently he heralds the arrival of winter. Him and the easter bunny got into a bit of a tizzy over it. Probably the most aggressive rabbit I've ever seen."
"The easter bunny? She always seemed joyous when I spoke with her."
"Not her, Jack."
Judy stopped stirring the pot she'd been looking at. She looked up at Nick with one of the most concerned faces he'd ever seen her with.
"Jack Frost is a rabbit?" She asked.
"Well, I suppose he's actually a hare. He's a bit taller than any of the rabbits here at the north pole. Why?"
"It's just… The easter bunny is kind of a hero around here. One of us that made it big and is an inspiration. I can't imagine why another legendary figure could be a rabbit and we'd never hear about it."
"That is strange. I wonder why no one's ever mentioned him?"
"I can answer that."
Nick and Judy looked up, standing in the doorway to Nick's workshop stood Jack Frost, holding one of the snow globes.
"It's because no one looks up to the villain."
