Chapter 2:
The next day:

Janes starts to stretch out and she freezes when she realizes that Maura is basically on top of her. Muara is on Jane's right side with her arms over Jane's shoulders. The ME's sleeping slightly higher than Jane with her chin resting on the top of Jane's head. The memories from the previous night start to fill Jane's mind and she tries to turn slowly to look at Maura.

Jane stops moving when she realizes that her nose is in Maura's cleavage. Jane's heart starts beating faster and she wonders if this is what her life will be like from now on. Having near panic attacks due to arousal when she's around the doctor. Fuck, she thinks to herself but it slips out as an audible growl. Maura moans in response and starts to stretch out, unconsciously pressing her chest into the side of Jane's face.

Jane decides she could either move away quickly before Maura could realize how they were sleeping and knowing Maura she would comment on it making Jan feel even more awkward or flustered or more likely both.

Or she could pretend to be asleep until her alarm goes off. The detective still has no idea what time it is but she can see it's still pretty dark outside which means she still has at least a half-hour before she actually has to get up and get ready. She decides on the latter because it is the least likely to result in an awkward moment.

As Jane closes her eyes and pretends to be asleep Maura starts moving against her, at first the brunette thinks she is moving away or getting up but the honey blonde is gripping Jane tightly and snuggling into her, pulling Jane even closer to her.

Jane can feel the warmth of Maura's breasts against her face and the detective starts to overheat in response. Jane is sure her face is completely red. Jane decides she needs to move away, she could pretend she needs to pee and make a run for it but if she stays this close to the doctor she might spontaneously combust. "Jane are you ok, you feel a little warm" a sleepy ME's voice comes from near Jane's ear.

Jane can feel the vibrations in Maura's chest when she talks and it's all too much. Now that she's awake Jane answers "Hm, yeah I tend to run a little hot in my sleep." as she moves away from Maura and turns a little on her side to face the honey blonde. "I hope you are not coming down with something on top of everything else," Maura says as she moves her right hand from Jane's shoulder to her forehead. Jane inches away from her touch and tries to get up. When her legs were met with resistance.

Jane lifted her head to look down. Has she wrapped her legs around me too? Jane asks herself in disbelief. Maura sees Jane looking at her legs over Jane and she says "I told you I'm a cuddler. Sorry, maybe that's why you were so hot". Maura moves her leg off Jane and gives her some space. "No! You didn't make me hot. I am always this hot...when I sleep I mean temperature-wise".

Jane awkwardly clears her throat, her voice is extra low and groggy in the morning. All the while hoping Maura is still too sleepy to read too much into what Jane implied by accident. Jane gets out of bed and heads for the guest bathroom. I am definitely in need of a cold shower she says to herself in the mirror.

Jane finished getting dressed after her shower. No matter how long she was in there, the memory of the previous night with the ME on top of her threatening to tickle her in order to get her to admit the importance of sex after Maura told Jane that she is sexually frustrated, would not stop repeating in her mind. Jane came down the stairs and figured she had at least 20 minutes to drink coffee and mentally prepare herself for the day while DR. Fashionista gets ready. Jane closes her eyes trying to calm her mind and think about the leads she has to pursue Hoit when she hears that oh-so-familiar sound of the honey blonde making her way downstairs in her heels.

Jane opens her eyes to find the doctor closer than she expected, she moved fast for someone in heels she thought. Maura was now right next to Jane who was sitting at the kitchen island. "You don't feel so hot anymore," the doctor says as she moves the back of her hand over Jane's forehead. Give it time Jane thinks to herself. "Ouch, way to kick me when I'm down" Jane says with a smirk. "No Jane I meant- oh you're making a joke." the ME says shyly as she moves away from Jane towards the coffee maker to make her espresso.

Jane is laughing and eventually manages to say "I told you I run hot in my sleep, nothing to do with a cold or anything else." Jane says quickly. "Let's carpool today. It makes sense since we are both probably gonna work late and it's more environmentally friendly" the ME says, way too chipper that time of the morning for Jane's liking. That would mean more time spent with the doctor. It's not like anything could happen that happened last night Jane thought but still, Jane felt she couldn't trust herself not to make an idiot out of herself or worse, around Maura, anymore.

"Hello, Jane, did you hear what I said? Where did you go?" Jane snapped back "Oh yeah sorry we can drive together that's fine. Speaking of, we gotta go.". Jane's phone rang with news of another body found in the woods "Ok. Take his phone, stay off the radio and surveil the park entrances, we'll be right there." Jane hangs up the phone and looks deeply at Maura. "You are not gonna like what we are about to do". Jane reverted to her usual joking self, dramatically gesturing her arms for Maura to walk ahead through the door and saying "Madam".

Jane and Maura argue about leaving the body in the park in order to catch the necrophiliac who's likely to return to the crime scene. Later that night Jane gets restless when Korsak doesn't return from the bushes leaving Jane in the car with one of Korsak's rescue strays. "Later that same day, come on" Jane exits the car and starts calling the detective. Jane sees someone running in the bushes and starts pursuing on foot. Jane tackles who she thinks is the murderer but turns out to be agent Dean.

Jane walks up to Maura holding Jo Friday, Korsak's stray dog. "Guess where I've been?" The ME looks the detective and the dog up and down "How is Korsak?" "He's fine, he's not fi- he'll be fine. You told agent Dean where we were didn't you?" Maura answers coldly "I did". "Without telling me?" Jane asks, annoyed. "I'm sorry". "Really you're sorry. Because I treated a senior federal agent like a purp. I tackled him, Maura, in a creek" Maura gestures her hand in the air sympathetically "Well that's unfortunate. But there is a fine line between courage and stupidity." Jane snaps back "Yeah a fine, thin, blue line."

Jo Friday barks in unison "Thank you" Jane pets Jo. "What? You have a turtle". The honey blond looks at Jane unimpressed. "Tortoise" Maura corrects. "Whatever". "Well at least give her a bath" Maura gestures to the sink in the morgue. Maura looks at Jane pointedly "Did you actually tackle him?" Jane answers while bathing Jo. "Yes, like a linebacker. Very professional." Maura looks almost amused. "Wow, you're very brave" "No, I am simply tired of being afraid" Jane answers genuinely.

Maura brings coffee to the uncaffeinated detective "Have you been here all day?" ."Yes- ghad ma give it a rest" she says as her mother's ringtone rings out for the third time in 12 minutes. Maura looks skeptically at Jane "What's my ringtone?". Jane gets a deviously excited look as she plays Chopin's Funeral March.

"Nice and upbeat?" Maura teases with a full smile. "You should talk to your mom". "She's so mad at me though. Because I won't come home and sleep in my pink canopy bed" Jane explains in disgust. Maura looks longingly at Jane "Hhmm, I always wanted a pink canopy". Jane rubs her forehead "I wanted a hoarse...Please don't tell me that you always wanted to dissect dead people?". Maura frowns a little with a worried look "Ok, I won't"

Maura calls Jane and tells her that her apartment has been ransacked and is a literal crime scene. When Jane gets to her apartment, Hoyt lures her into a van and drugs her. She manages to escape having shot Hoyt in his hands and gotten second-degree burns from a flare.
Jane gets to her apartment and crutches by the door, looking at the wreckage that Hoyt left behind for her. Maura comes up the hallway yelling her name. "Jane! Jane, are you ok?".

Maura is carrying a class tortoise enclosure, she puts it down, bends down, and hugs Jane. "Oh my gah- are you crying?". Maura composes herself, still holding Jane with one arm "I thought I lost you". Jane stands and wraps her arms around Maura, hugging her tightly and whispering in her ear "You didn't lose me, I'm right here Maur". "You got hurt, they hurt you" Maura says between breaths. Jane pulls away to gesture to the burns. "I actually inflicted these myself so I could get close enough to him. Flares are h-hot".

Maura laughed a little, cupping Jane's face "Yeah, they are, dummy". "Maura you are acting really strange, I'm fine and Hoyt is locked up." Maura wouldn't let go, instead hugging Jane even harder. "Ok Maura, that's enough of this now." Jane says but not completely pulling away from the hug. Maura picks up the glass enclosure and points to the little tortoise. "I wanted you to see for yourself what extraordinary creatures these are". Jane takes the box "Uh thanks."
"I thought you might need some help cleaning up".

Jane reluctantly looks around her mess of an apartment "Uh alright, let me get you some work clothes.". Maura smiles at Jane "These are my work clothes". Jane looks at Maura in disbelief and starts laughing, which makes Maura laugh. Maura jiggles her arms and bosom then gestures to her clothes "You don't like?". Jane allowed herself to look Maura up and down and then forced herself to look elsewhere- to the tortoise "Ah they are kinda cute when they're small" "I told you". Maura comes closer, not liking the sudden shift in attention. "So where do you want me to start?". She says with a fiery look as she puts on blue latex gloves.

Jane looks around defeatedly at her apartment for a few moments before saying "Come on" and walking towards the door. Maura looks confused "What?" she asks. "Let's go get a bloody mary. We always said that we needed to do something outside of a crime scene, this is a crime scene". The detective says gesturing to her ruined apartment. "Let's go"."Great" says the doctor as she takes off her gloves and followers the brunette towards the door. "Oh but dressed like that?" Maura asks sincerely pointing at Jane's flare burned clothes "These are my going-out clothes" Jane says winking at Maura which elicited a laugh from the blonde.
