Chapter 4: The Reset

Maura's POV

Maura could barely sleep a wink after Jane left. She was worried about the detective having to drive after not sleeping all night. I wonder how Tommy is doing. She kept thinking about what happened. God, I was turned on. It has been a while since I last had sex but this was more than just that, it was intense.

Ridiculous, she's your best friend Maura, what are you doing? Maura says to herself as she tosses in her bed. It's still pretty early but she can't keep staring at the ceiling thinking about Jane. She probably didn't even hear me, god I wanted her to kiss me. Maybe the only way to get Jane out of my system is to get her into my system. The doctor thinks, biting her lip.

It's not that strange, is it? Fantasizing about your best friend? Oh god, I have to do something, I can't see Jane again with this ache between my legs. I won't be able to control myself. You've done this many times before the ME says to herself as she moves her hand over her hard nipples.

Granted you never masturbated while thinking about Jane but it's a one-time thing. "She will never know". The honey blonde says in her empty master bedroom. She never did put on pajamas after Jane left. She always sleeps in the nude, unless the brunette is over.

She starts tucking at her erect nipples, then licking her fingers and rubbing them over her full mounds, imagining Jane taking them in her mouth. Oh god, I can't remember the last time I was so turned on, it's like I'm a horny teenager in boarding school all over again the doctor thinks frustratedly.

She moves her hand lower over her stomach, her eyes closed. She starts squirming slightly in anticipation of her inevitable release.

The doctor drags a finger between her wet folds and a small moan escapes her throat. She spreads her legs wider, bending her knees up, a shiver comes over the doctor as the cool air from the room meets her glistening center.

She twists and tugs her left nipple with one hand and starts circling her clit with the other. Her back arched off the bed "Oh god jane" the ME says, her eyes squeezed shut. She moves away from her throbbing bud and dips two fingers into her near pulsating walls. "Yes right there! Don't stop" the doctor practically yells as she pumps faster into her core.

She places her thumb over her swollen clit and rubs in rhythm with her thrusts. "God I'm gonna cum soon" the doctor slows down her thrusts to an agonizingly slow speed, she's right on the edge. "Make me come, Jane, fuck me please". The doctor says with a panting breath, she speeds up once more and her walls start rippling.

She grabs the sheets with her left hand as her body arches off the bed. "Fuck!...I'm c-coming, Jane!... Jane!" the doctor yells out as she climaxes harder than she ever has while pleasing herself. She thrusts in and out of herself slowly while she rides out her high. The doctor is breathless, a thin layer of sweat covers her naked body.

"Wow," she whispers to herself as she removes her fingers. Her body jerks at the movement, she's so sensitive. She brings her hand to her mouth and licks off her glistening fingers one by one. The doctor feels weak from her unparalleled climax but much more relaxed than before. I haven't come that fast in a long time. The doctor thinks to herself.

She usually lasts much longer than that, it's not like she set out for this to be a quickie, she has the whole day off. The release gave the doctor a burst of energy, she was thinking clearer and ready to start the day. She all but jumped out of bed and into the shower. Choosing to forgo her normal hour yoga session in the mornings. Seeing as she was already so relaxed.

After getting ready the honey blonde finds her mind wandering to the detective again. She hasn't heard from the brunette since their last text saying she's still at the precinct waiting for Tommy to make bail. It's past 10 and she decides to send her a text. The doctor has a mischievous smile as she compiles her text.

Janes pov:

Jane all but throws her keys and jacket on her kitchen table. She sighs in exhaustion and slumps down on her couch. This is not how she wanted to spend her first full weekend off in almost three months. Once again her screw-up little brother manages to make her life difficult. It's not like he actively tries to do so and he is a very lovable idiot.

On top of everything Jane feels guilty for everything she said, she was tough on him but how could she not. They screamed at each other in the street where he hit a pedestrian driving drunk. She had to drive to where he was being arrested at 4 in the morning and try to convince her coworkers to let her handle it. Thinking back now she was harder on him than they were.

"What a sh*t show my life is now" The sleep-deprived detective mumbled to herself, it was almost 11 and she had waited at the jail for Tommy to make bail all night. She notices a text on her phone. The brunette can't help the fluttering feeling every time she sees a text from Maura.

Maura: I thought about you this morning, Jane. How are things with Tommy? I hope you got some sleep eventually. Lunch later:)?

Jane lets her head fall back to the couch. Things were happening last night right? I could swear she said something like "Do it" right as I wanted to kiss her shoulder. What would have happened if I stayed? No, you are not doing this again. You were doing so well when you didn't see her as much. Just don't think about her and keep things platonic- no dancing, no cuddling on the couch, and definitely NO massages! But Maura will know something is up if all that suddenly changes. "Ugghhh" the detective groans while looking at the ceiling. However, the detective can't keep a smile from spreading as she responds.

Jane: Thanks, Maur. Yes, he made bail. The pedestrian is fine luckily, well not fine. He has a broken femur but he'll live. I kind of lost it with him last night, I don't feel great about it but he makes me furious sometimes you know? Lunch sounds good ;)

Maura's POV:

The ME got a warm feeling spread across her chest as she saw her phone light up. Hmm, that's new the doctor thinks to herself as she shakes her head in an attempt to rid herself of the foreign feeling in her chest. Maura Isles is all about logic, numbers, and facts. Warm fuzzy feelings are foreign to her.

Maura: Great, I can cook us lunch. I have a great chickpea and quinoa salad recipe I want to try out. See you at noon?

Jane shakes her head vigorously and types Nooooooo. Before erasing it. She can't be alone with the doctor so soon after last night. I have to reset the situation first. Does she not feel it? It's like nothing happened for her. Well, nothing did happen, dummy. Jane thinks in a panic.

Jane: Um let's go out. I feel like grabbing a bite somewhere. Any place you want though. But I am not eating grass and leaves with beet balls again so that hippy place where everyone wears open-toed fugly sandals is out. I want to clog my arteries after the night I had :/

Maura giggles at the overly dramatic detective before typing.

Maura: Fine but you are having a salad with whatever poor food choice you have. I can smell the lack of nutrients and fibers already, you know empty carbs do not give you the energy you need in a day Jane:0

Jane rolls her eyes at the health nut of a doctor. Yet she always "tastes" my food until almost all of it is gone. The brunette thinks as she types.

Jane: Whatever you say doctor (rolling eyes emoji)

Jane opens Maura's door while staring at the entrance to the restaurant that Maura chose. I can't afford this place she thinks in annoyance. "You had to pick this place. Really Maura. You're the math wiz, how many organs do you think I need to sell to make it to dessert here?"

Maura shoots Jane an unimpressed look. "I invited you to lunch, Jane. It's my treat.". "Thank you but you know I don't like you spoiling me like I'm your sugar baby. If we are going down that road you should at least be gettin some". Jane teases before she could overthink the words that just left her mouth. Jane has always been too proud to let her friend, who comes from a multi-million dollar background, aka the Isles foundation, pay for her, a blue-collar detective.

Maura's heart races slightly at the detective's comment. She knows Jane is joking, had it been the early years of their friendship Maura would have clarified that it was not her intention of being like a sugar mommy to Jane. However, Maura has grown used to Jane's humor.

"Very funny. Try not to do anything ridiculous this time. The last time I took you to a gourmet restaurant you used the napkin rings as a monocle and it was like you thought you were on an episode of Downton Abbey"

"Don't be ridiculous, I have not seen enough of that show to do anything of the sort. I am nothing if not my normal self at your fancy outings" The taller woman says as the server walks them to their table. "That's because you don't stay awake long enough to see one full episode," Maura says, holding Jane's gaze.

"It's called meditating. It's how I focus. You've never respected that" Jane says, closing her eyes and shaking her head dramatically. "The puddle of drool makes it hard," Maura says, raising her eyebrows and looking at the menu.

"As always we are delighted to have you doctor Isles, and can I just say your date is absolutely ravishing today. I wouldn't expect anything less when it comes to you, doctor. Your server will be with you shortly." The restaurant's manager says and disappears before anyone could respond.

Oh shoot. That's right I have brought a few women here over the years. Did Jane catch that? He was right though, even with her frumpy shirts and shoes, she is ravishing. I wish she would let me dress her just once. Show off that olive skin, her elegantly long neck. Oh, how I would like to kiss that neck of hers right here, right now. What are you thinking? That is inappropriate and you know it. She is your best friend. She's straight. Do not go down this path again. Straight girls do not jump into the bisexual's arms in the real world. Get it together. Maura tells herself as she takes a big gulp of water.

Jane is visibly awkward and jittery. "I'm just gonna use the restroom quickly," Jane says and gets up before Maura could acknowledge. She is acting a little odd, maybe she did catch what the manager said and she is uncomfortable with him thinking that. Then again she has said that places like this make her feel like a fish out of water, whatever that means. Once the server comes by Maura orders something she knows Jane would like along with her own order and a bottle of wine.

Janes POV

The brunette enters the restroom and attempts to compose herself in front of the mirror. What the hell just happened?!. Why does he think I'm her date? It's definitely not the first time he's seen her here, she's like a regular here? Has she brought dates here?... women? Maura has never mentioned dating women. Breathe Jane. Does this change things?

Could she hypothetically feel the same way? Oh god, I am losing it. I could be reading into this too much. Maybe he meant I was her friend date? Don't be naive Jane, you know that is not what he meant. Ok just make it through lunch. Jane thinks while splashing her face with cold water "You got this" the brunette says to herself before finishing up and returning to... Her date?

Maura smiles warmly at the detective as she takes her seat. "I ordered you something yummy, with meat and carbs… and greens. You'll love it I promise" the doctor says and places her hand reassuringly on the detectives.

And we are breathing, we are not freaking out. No, we are not. Smile Jane. the brunette thinks before taking a sip of water. "Thanks, Maura, I know it won't be grass, leaves, and beet balls so I am happy" Maura shakes her head "That was a balanced, immune-boosting lunch that happened to contain wheatgrass, spinach leaves, and beats among other delicious greens. You can be so picky, Jane"

"I am picky. You didn't even want to try the midnight snack I invented. It had protein and other good stuff in it as well." Jane says, crossing her arms and staring Maura down. "That was a mac and cheese sandwich that you also managed to deep fry. Sometimes I worry about the things you do unsupervised at one in the morning, Jane"

Jane just gave the doctor a snarky look "Careful now. You appreciated my Arancini last night. My culinary skills and my imagination are not to be separated, you try one, you try them all."

Maura just giggled and looked at Jane in awe. Their food arrived and Jane wasted no time in stuffing her face. The only thing she had all day was stale precinct coffee which was a crime on its own to have to drink on one's day off.

The two women finished their meal and Maura paid, to Jane's protest. "After the night you've had and everything with Tommy it's the least I could do." Maura says as they get ready to leave. "Please Jane let Mama pay " the ME ads, laughing at her own comment to their previous banter.

"Very funny. Ok well, thank you for lunch. I'm pretty t-" Maura interrupts Jane before she could finish. "Jane I am going to a fundraiser tomorrow night, remember I told you about it a few weeks ago."

Jane's face drops "Oh I remember because you almost convinced me to come with you, where I would no doubt spend the entire night surrounded by snobby, pretentious-" Maura interrupts before Jane could finish again "That's the one yes, well... I am not going to force you to go with me if you feel that strongly but-" ."Thank you, I do. Continue" Maura looks at Jane, her patience wearing thin with the taller woman "But will you please at least come with me to help me decide on my attire for the event?"

Jane looks at the ground, she's not getting away after lunch as easily as she thought. "Oh, the things I do for you. You know how I feel about tedious hours of shopping" Maura hooks her arm with the brunettes and leads her out of the restaurant. "Yes and I promise there will be comfy seats in the dressing room and even complimentary Champagne. It won't even take that long I promise"

"Fine. In and out. The moment we find something we both agree on, we get it and go?" Maura's face lights up with a dimpled smile and she practically skips next to the dark-haired woman. "Deal. It's right down this street actually, we can walk there." the doctor says excitedly.

Jane squeezes her eyes shut and counts in her head. There had better be a curtain separating us when she tries on the dresses or god help me. Jane says to herself. Unlike Maura, she did not start the morning with a mind-blowing orgasm. She was exhausted, sexually frustrated, to say the least, and there was no end in sight to the day for the detective.

"Right on time as usual. Welcome back Dr. Isles, your selections are ready for you in your dressing room" Comes a tall dark-haired, model-looking woman with a french accent. Jane gives Maura a warning look "Really, you planned this didn't you?" Maura looks guilty and innocent somehow at the same time "I knew I would be coming in later today and our lunch just happened to end at the time I set for the appointment. I did not think you would agree. You have to see these dresses, Jane, they just arrived from Milan."

Jane can't help but smile at the giddy dr. To say she loves fashion would be an understatement. Jane plumps down on what she hopes is a couch. The design makes it look more like an art piece and unfortunately, it would not be the first time for the detective to mistake one of those for a seat while out with the doctor.

Maura closes the door behind her and grabs a pre-selected dress to place on the designated hook in front of the mirror. It is at this moment that Jane realizes there are no curtains and they are inside a big dressing room.

Maura elegantly steps out of her heels and starts to unzip her dress with her back to Jane. "I.. uh.. Gosh that wine from earlier went right through me, where is the restroom?". The honey blonde looked skeptically at Jane "Right outside to the left. Are you alright Jane? You've been going to the bathroom more often than usual. Stomach issues?" Maura asks sincerely.

Jane freezes in place, caught off guard by the doctor's forward question. Jane doesn't care what Maura thinks at this point as long she doesn't suspect the truth. "Yes on top of everything else. I have the squirts too." Jane says before walking out the door.

Maura shakes her head at the unfiltered detective. I hope she's not getting sick. I really thought I could still get her to go with me to the event. Maura says as she steps out of her dress and throws a red one over her head. Even the doctor can't deny she looks hot AF right now. But It is not the one. She gives a twirl and walks closer and farther from the mirror. Looking at every angle and detail on the designer dress.

Janes POV:

Just your luck. Just your freaking luck. Jane says once again looking in the mirror. You can't keep running away from her. Maybe you should just tell her how you feel. I would literally rather she think I have the squirts than tell her how I feel. Great.

Jane takes out her phone in an effort to distract herself. She checks her email to see if some leads had come through on some cold cases she was looking at earlier in the slow week. Her phone rings and it's Frankie.

"Hay, sis. I was just calling to see how you were dealing with the whole Tommy thing" Jane sits on the toilet. "You would think I would be more equipped to deal with it after all these times. Do you think he's still mad about what I said? You know how angry I can get, Frankie"

"He's fine Jane, you both said some things and no one can deny, he had it coming. It's time he grew up. Where are you? It sounds like you're in a closet." "Bathroom actually. I'm out dress shopping with Maura and…" "You dress shopping. How's that going?" Frankie says before laughing.

"You should see this place, Champagne, designer everything even the mirrors- why is designer mirrors a thing?" "You sound more irritable than usual, is everything ok? Why are you in the bathroom while Maura is trying on dresses" Jane contemplates telling Frankie how she feels about her best friend? If there is anyone who won't judge and give honest and unselfish advice, it's him. "I'm fine. Well not exactly. I will be fine. It's just...complicated"

"Did you guys have a fight? When did you become involved in drama?"Jane's voice goes up defensively as her brother starts to annoy her. "We did not fight Frankie and there is no drama. You know I don't do drama, it just finds me sometimes I don't go actively looking for it"

"Ok see now you're deflecting. You can tell me if there is something going on between you and Maura you know. I can be neutral.". "Nothing is going on between me and M- Frankie I gotta go, she is waiting for me. Talk later, ok."

Jane walks back to the dressing room. She's been away at least five minutes so hopefully, Maura is already in her first dress. Jane walks in. Maura is struggling to zip up the zipper from the back of a gorgeous lime green, tight-fitting gown. Hugging Maura in all the right places and with a slit at the side of her thigh.

Jane freezes as she takes in the sight. She moves closer and puts her hand over Maura's where she was struggling with the zipper. In a smooth motion, Jane pulls the zip-up eliciting a gasp from the unsuspecting honey blonde. 'I didn't see you come in. Are you alright? You were gone for a while."

"Yes, sorry. Frankie called, he wanted to talk about Tommy. Maura, I think we have a winner right here. You look stunning. I mean you took my breath away." Jane twirls her hair nervously. Stop crawling up her asshole Jane, you sound like a lovesick puppy.

"Thank you, Jane. Do you really think so? I quite like it too. The color brings out my eyes, do you see?" Maura says, turning around to face the detective. Jane loses herself in Maura's eyes.

Maura's POV:

There she goes again, blank. The doctor thinks before saying "Hello. Jane?". What is she thinking about? Maybe it is the whole thing with Tommy. It's really eating at her. But wait she's been acting like this since before last night.

"Jane. Jane!" Jane jumps at the doctor's exclamation "Sorry. I.. um.." Maura takes Jane's hand softly "Where did you go?". Jane looks like a deer in headlights "I love the dress Maura, you should get it". Maura just looks at Jane with a soft smile.

If she doesn't want to tell me, I will find out for myself. Maura thinks. "Ok but I still want to at least try on the others. Who knows, there might be a better choice." Jane grunts audibly and plops down to the sofa. "I cannot make a definitive decision until I have taken them all into account and I need your help, Jane"

"Fine, next" Maura moves over to Jane "Could you unzip me please. Jane then looks at the flower arrangements on the table by the door to keep from seeing the smaller woman's bareback so soon after she very nearly slathered it with kisses the previous night.

Jane fiddles around feeling for the zipper then pulls it down very quickly. The doctor gasps at the quick movement "You are gonna break it, Jane." Jane plops back to the coach "It's down isn't it?" Maura leans down to Jane's level. Putting her hands on the armrests beside Jane and looking her dead in the eye. "Jab one! Jane Clementine Rizzoli"

Jane moves nervously in her seat and makes the mistake of breaking eye contact with Maura and staring right at her bra-clad breasts. The doctor's dress was slipping, due to the open zipper at the back and the detective could see her breasts spilling over her bra.

"W-What I do? And its strike one, Maur" Jane manages to say just above a whisper seeing as the honey blonde was hovering over her. "I have been nothing but understanding and supportive with your behavior all day, figuring you are tired from last night. I deeply sympathize with what happened with Tommy and I love you, Jane, even though you drive, me, crazy. Mocking my shoes, drifting off to wonderland during a conversation, your overall foul mood today and now with the zipper. But I have had it. I need you here as my best friend. This fundraiser is very important to my family and will ultimately help a lot of people. So focus, bare down and be present- got it?"

"Got it" Jane says, wide-eyed in shock at the ME's outburst. She's only seen Maura this angry one time before and admittedly the detective was an absolute pain in the ass that day.

Maura rises and lets the dress fall to the floor. Ok have I gotten so angry with Jane that I am now horny again or am I turned on because I can feel her eyes on me as I undress? God, I can feel my underwear getting soaked. Why do I do this?

I get wildly turned on every time I lose my temper. I should do some research on the correlation between anger and sexual arousal- mental note. I hope it's not obvious to Jane. the ME thinks to herself as she slips on the last dress.

"A little help here," Maura says and Jane practically flies out of the chair and helps Maura zip up. Both women just stare at Maura in the mirror. The dress is a silk lavender, strapless gown with a slit opening up the doctor's thigh.

"I'm torn, this one is-" "Beautiful. This is the one, Maur. Trust me" Jane says, slowly dragging her eyes up and down the doctor's frame.

God, I love it when she looks at me like that. Does she even know what she's doing to me under this dress right now? Stop it, Maura. You are going to drive her away. The doctor scorns herself. "I'll get this one then." Jane smiles softly at Maura and places her hand at the small of the doctor's back and pushes to have the doctor turn around, showing off the silky, tight-fitting dress over Maura's curved form.

Jane finally reluctantly unzips Maura. Maura bends down to catch the dress before it could fall to the ground. A small moan escapes the detective's throat as she takes in the sight of a bent-over ME. She's wearing white silk underwear and all Jane wants to do is rip them off.

Maura turns to look at Jane. She's really staring at my ass right now. How long until she notices me looking at her. Does she like what she sees? I mean how can she not even as a straight woman. I am objectively speaking, a perfect specimen. Not to toot my own trumpet or however, the saying goes.

Jane finally looks away moments after Maura looks away from her, hanging up the dress and stepping into her own dress. "Last one I promise," Maura says with an apologetic look to the detective. Jane smiles softly and pulls at the zipper.

The two women leave the boutique and Jane drops Maura off at her house around five in the afternoon having spent the better part of their day together.

"Thank you, Jane. I always prefer having you with me no matter where I go. You're my person remember" Maura says as she moves to get out of Jane's cruiser. "Maura I'm sorry I can be a pain in the ass sometimes. You were right earlier, you have been understanding and kind. You are always so genuine, warm, and just fun to be around. I could genuinely spend all day every day with you. I'll go with you to the thingy if it means that much to you."

"Jane, you don't have to if you don't want to," Jane places her hand on the doctor's which is resting on her bare thigh. "I do want Maur". The ME removes her hand from under Janes and places it on top of the detectives, trapping her hand on the doctor's bare thing.

Jane's breath hitches and she forces herself not to react beyond that. You would think she has at least become better at hiding her arousal. The ME says something along the lines of drive safe or see you tomorrow night then. But Jane was too busy obsessing over her hand touching the doctor's bare, warm, smooth thigh.

The honey blonde steps out and slams the door shut which jolts Jane back to reality out of her trance. Jane watches as Maura walks up her driveway, swaying her hips, her hair bouncing.

"Ugh tomorrow night is going to be unbearable," Jane says as she drives off finally to get some sleep.

***What did you think about Maura's pov? I absolutely loved writing this one. More to follow shortly =)***
