Maura tells Jane how she feels:

The alarm goes off and Jane sluggishly moves to kill the incessant beeping on her phone. She collapses back onto the bed and Maura stirs awake. "Do you have to fall back on the bed like that? You nearly bounced me off the other side" Maura groans sleepily, her face smushed against the pillow.

Jane nearly jerks at the sudden voice coming from her left. She is still sleepy and forgot she spent the night at Maura's. She positions herself upright, rubbing her bleary eyes to look down at Maura.

"That's a little dramatic, this early in the morning... Your California king is pretty firm. You bounced lightly, if that." Jane says matter-of-factly. Maura stretches out pulling the duvet off over her upper body. "Coffee?" Muara asks warmly, looking up at Jane.

"Hmm, yes please" Jane says, practically purring with delight.

Maura gets out of bed and goes to the kitchen to make her home brew coffee. Even though she knows the caffeine addicted detective snuck instant into her cupboard, she always insisted Jane drink the good stuff. She was nothing if not determined to get Jane to enjoy the finer things in life, even if it's just a cup of coffee.

Jane comes down the stairs, dragging her feet, stiffening a yawn.

"No, not the coffee porn, that takes forever." Maura shoots Jane a disheartened look as she readies the cups. "You are so impatient, it takes 15 minutes, Jane"

"That is about 12 minutes too long to wait for a one cup of coffee, this isn't Starbucks" Jane says, coming over to hover over Maura. "Nope. You are not hovering over me until I pour it. Go get ready, it'll be here when you're done". Maura states pushing Jane out of the kitchen.

"Fine but I shower in 10 minutes and get dressed and ready in 5, so it better be ready then or I'm making my own instant coffee" Jane says over her shoulder as she makes her way upstairs. "It's right in the name, instant. As in not 15 minutes. You instantly have a cup of coffee". Jane is really getting on her nerves lately. It could be the constant ache between Maura's legs but she is on the edge today…

Jane comes down from her shower after exactly 15 minutes, all dressed in her slacks, wearing a blue t- shirt. One of 9 identical t-shirts that she owns. Another thing that slightly got on the doctor's nerves. Jane is such a beautiful woman yet she wears such undefining clothes. The things she wished she could dress her in, Maura gets giddy just thinking about it.

"As promised, a cup of medium dark roasted Ethiopian beans, with a nutty aroma and an earthy finish" -"Gimmie" Jane says walking over as she waves her hands for the coffee.

"Hmmm" Jane hums as she takes a sip.

They finish drinking their coffee and Maura goes upstairs to get ready while Jane watches the morning news. She mostly only does it to pass time while the doctor is getting ready, when there is no game on.

There is a story of two bodies being found just outside of Boston, falling outside of BPD's jurisdiction. Jane tries to get a look at the scene from the news camera's angle by moving closer to the tv screen and squinting when Maura comes downstairs.

"You just can't turn it off can you?" Jane backs away from the tv. "I just turned it on while you were getting ready" "No I mean the detective inside you that just can't seem to leave a scene alone even though there are other capable people handling the case" Maura says pointing to the authorities at the scene on the tv screen.

"Oh, yeah I can't help myself sometimes I guess. It's just look...they have to check in that treeline, the killer could have dropped something there" Jane says pointing at the tv. The camera cuts to the reporter and Jane turns off the tv.

Maura just shakes her head and smiles at the ever-working detective. Their phones start to ring seconds after the other "Rizzoli"- "Isles" "Ok send me the address and page Frost, I'll be there in 10" -"Secure the body and wait for me, I'm on my way"

Jane puts her phone in the holder in her belt and places her gun in her holster. "Did you hear that we are going to the thee yay-ta" Jane says in a pretentious accent. "I did. Are you gonna make jokes about the Opera for the rest of the day?"

Maura says trying not to laugh at the dumb way Jane is talking. She doesn't want to encourage her but she also really loves that side of the detective. She can be so goofy sometimes and she never fails to make the doctor laugh.

"Milady" Jane says, bowing dramatically by the open door. Maura shakes her head and walks to the car.

They get to the scene and Jane starts looking intently on and around the area in front of the stage where the victim's body is laying. Maura finishes processing the body and sends it to the lab. Jane takes her latex gloves off, satisfied that she processed every inch of the scene.

Frost is getting the footage on the cameras. "Hey Korsak. Why won't bankers go to the Opera?" Korsak shrugs, looking at the women "Because they quickly lose interest." Korsak tries not to smile. He knows Jane could downright terrorize them with dumb jokes when she's in a mood like today.

Maura and Jane walk to Jane's cruiser "You know singing in the shower is fun until you get soap in your mouth. Then it's a soap opera." "-Jane" "I'm done" Jane says getting in the car "Wait" Maura's head drops "Why was the pony unable to go and sing at the opera?" Jane waits for Maura to answer. "Why Jane?" "Well, he was a little horse."

So stupid, Maura thinks as she stiffens a laugh. "You are bound to run out of smoke eventually" Maura says mostly to herself "Steam, Maur. The expression goes: You're bound to lose steam eventually" Jane says. She gets to correct the doctor sometimes as well.

"Whatever"... They get to the precinct and Jane finishes her paperwork for the morning. They have no leads so far. She fiddles with her pencil as she watches the footage from the security cameras at the Opera for the 5 th time in a row. Hoping she missed something. Nothing suspicious or distinct.

The victim simply came alone, who goes to the Opera alone? Jane thinks to herself. Granted Jane was not a regular consumer of the art but Maura made her go a few times and it's not something you really go to alone.

Who would wake you up at the end? Jane asks herself, amused. Her mind wanders to the doctor. She convinced herself that their encounter the previous day of the fundraiser was all a very vivid dream. Unless Maura brings it up then the whole 'touching Maura's breasts thing' didn't happen.

She grabs her jacket and heads to the morgue hoping Maura found something useful. "No one's reported her missing, why not?" Jane huffs standing over the body. "Well she has a depressed skull fracture" "Hmm. Must have been a hefty weapon" Jane says mostly to herself.

"No, not a weapon" Maura states simply, looking at the projected x-ray. "So she just woke up this morning and after she brushed her teeth she thought… Gee my head hurts" Jane asks sarcastically, gesturing to the back of her head.

"No, she has a contrico contusion from a massive fall. Contrico means-" "Yeah it's not my first rodeo, it means her head bounced around inside her skull" -"After striking a hard object". Maura nods "So not a pillow?" Jane asks dryly.

Maura stares at Jane pointedly "It takes longer when you make jokes" "I would poke my eyes out with a scalpel if I didn't make jokes" Jane says, smiling slyly.

"She also had massive amounts of cosmetic surgery. I wouldn't be surprised if Frost didn't get any hits in Afis." "Hm. Anyway, you can show me what she looked like before the surgeries?" Jane asks as she sees Frost walk in.

"No hits in Afis. Our Jane Doe is a lone, Opera seeing ghost." Frost says miserably. "Just in time detective Frost. I was just about to reveal what our victim looked like before her extensive plastic surgery." Maura states before moving her scalpel behind the victim's ear "What are you-? You're not gonna… you are" Frost states in horror.

"-Peeling back the victim's face" Maura states simply as she starts making a small incision. Frost gets a green look on his face and moves slowly away from the doctor. "Well can't you just use the computer, Maur? Frost?" Jane asks, looking at Frost.

"Just tying my shoe.hmm" Frost says, going lower to the ground. "Your shoes don't have laces." Jane says as Frost goes down. "Oh my gosh. Detective Frost?" Maura asks, concerned looking at the unconscious detective beside her on the floor.

Jane giggles deliciously and points at Frost "I think he passed out". Muara grabs a piece of cloth and starts fanning him. "Frost, You ok buddy?" Jane says, clicking her fingers in front of his face. "Boy he went down like a redwood, when do you think would be too soon to start calling him timber?" Jane asks as she barely stiffens a snort.

"Jane!" Maura snaps. "Ok he's coming out of it". They help him up and he swears the two women too secrecy about the incident.

Later that day Jane takes out a container her mother gave her with her favorite lunch item. Maura comes up to Jane's desk. "Hmm what's that?" Maura says, pointing to Jane's lunch. "Try one" Jane offers "What's the white substance?" Maura asks Jane in amazement. "Fluff"

"Downey particles of cotton?" Muara asks, confused. "It's marshmallow…" Maura sniffs it and nods in understanding."The brown substance is peanut butter...Ground up oily peanut particles. What they didn't have that at your fancy boarding school?" Jane asks Maura with an amused look.

"Its yummy. I need your eyes, Jane. My tech logged two earrings that the victim was wearing but I only recover one. It may have fallen out at the crime scene when they moved the body onto the gurney" Maura says before she takes another bite of Janes sandwich.

"Well you are lucky we don't have any leads and I could use a break from doing nothing." Jane says as she gets her jacket. They head to the Opera house in Janes cruiser.

"Thank you we won't be long" Jane says to the Janitor who opened the doors to the theater. "Man this place is massive" Jane says looking at the rows of emty seats. Its only the two of them. Maura is on her knees looking in every direction in front of the stage where the body was found.

Jane hops on the stage, shining her flashlight from above. "Maybe it's still in the body bag?" Maura gets up from her position "That's the first place I checked" Jane sits on the stage, facing Maura. "I don't see anything Maur" Maura gets a worried look. For all she knows that earring could be the key to solving this case.

"Dammit I should have been here, I should have notarized the items myself. For all we know my tech could have mistakenly put down two earrings without checking, maybe the killer took it? We will never know now-" Maura says hyperventilating "-Ok calm down Maur. If it's here we'll find it otherwise it may have been added by mistake to the paperwork, maybe she lost it before coming to the Opera?" Jane says trying to calm Maura down.

She knows the ME takes these things very seriously and blames herself for any errors the lab techs make. Maura moves to Jane who is still seated on the stage, she places her hands on Jane's shoulders and leans her forehead against Janes.

Jane holds Maura close by her waist. "There you go. Breath." Jane says, their eyes closed. She has calmed the doctor down this way many times when her over active brain drives her to a state of hyperventilation and worry.

It's one of the many things Maura loves about Jane. She is oftentimes the calm in the storm, a refuge for the weary honey blonde. She starts toying with Jane's curls. "Brightside. How often do you get to be in the theater by yourself?" Jane asks excitedly, looking around in amazement at the hollow building.

Maura just watches Jane. She is so close to her, holding her. It's almost too easy. Her lips are right there. Jane turns her gaze back to Maura. She notices the way Maura is looking at her lips. Jane swallows audibly. "Maur?"...

"Jane…" Maura breaths out as she moves in slowly and captures Jane's lips in a kiss. Jane freezes momentarily… her mind racing before leaning into the kiss.

Jane's hands reach into Maura's hair, pulling her deeper into the kiss. Maura is pressed very tightly against her, standing between Jane's legs. Jane pulls away from Maura abruptly.

Bringing her hand to her lips as if in disbelief at the action. Maura starts panicking. Did she do something wrong? Why did it feel so right then?

Jane jumps up onto the stage, she moves so quickly she startles Maura. "No no no nonono. we are putting a pin in... this… in all this" Jane says motioning to Maura dramatically with her hands.

"Wha... Jane?" Maura asks, confused. "Can we just talk about it at l-" "Nope" Jane interrupts as she practically flies off the stage, heading for the door. Maura runs to catch up. "You are running! I knew you would run away, Jane". "I am not running" "You are quite literally running away from me right at this very moment"

Jane stops in her tracks looking back at the stage in the distance where she sprinted from, heading for the door, even though they came together. "Hmm" Is all Jane could manage when she realises the doctor was right. She was quite literally and figuratively running from the situation.

"Jane, I know it's scary. I'm scared too-" "-I can't lose you". Maura moves closer to Jane "I am not going anywhere, you won't lose me. I am afraid of losing you as my best friend too, Jane. But the fear of never getting to be with you the way I want to, the way I need to...has become greater for me."

Jane's mouth opens slightly. This is all too much for her. "What are you saying Maur?"

Maura takes Jane's hand in hers "I am saying that I am in love with you, Jane. That I've been in love with you for quite some time now."

Even though those are the words of Jane's literal dreams, she simply does not allow herself to believe them. How could Maura Isles? Be in love with her? A blue collar detective with community college to her name.

Now she's meant to believe that this gorgeous, educated, stunning, classy and quite frankly the most incredible person she's ever known, loves her?

"Maura, this is a lot. You are the most important person in my life, I cannot lose you over this, please. Having you as my best friend and nothing more, is better than not having you at a-" "-Jane do you love me? Are you in love with me?"

"Can we please put a pin in this? I feel like I'm about to pass out" Jane says with her hands on her knees. She's seeing stars faintly. "Are you afraid that if you tell me you feel the same way that I am gonna change my mind and then end our friendship?" Maura asked, her voice going higher in disbelief.

"No! Well kind of… it's complicated-"

"-uncomplicate it for me Jane!" Maura yells, an echo fills the theater.

"I love you so much it hurts sometimes!" Jane yells back...She falls to sit on the floor in the aisle.

"I have loved you more deeply and wholeheartedly than I have ever loved anyone and it scares the crap out of me." Jane says, her voice barely holding up. Maura sits across Jane "And just knowing you. Knowing who you are, I can't imagine you ever loving someone like me. You deserve the absolute best Maura...That's not me"

Maura's eyes fill with tears. "Luckily for us, that is not for you to decide. You are the best person I know Jane. I wish you could see yourself through my eyes."

Jane exhales a breath she didn't know she was holding. "God I hate this stuff" "-What? Emotions?" Maura asks slightly amused. She is feeling much better having finally told Jane how she feels.

"Yeah. Ugh." Jane says laying down in the aisle. "What do we do now?" Jane asks looking up at the ceiling. "I don't know, I've never professed my love for my best friend before"

"Sarcasm? Now you understand sarcasm? What is with this day?!-Wait a minute you have never had another best friend before-" "-Exactly. I'm saying I don't have an answer. It will definitely be complicated. We work together"

"Yeah." Jane exhales. "Wait." Jane says sitting up. "I love you" "-I love you too Jane" Maura says warmly but slightly confused. Hoping Jane doesn't have a case of Amnesia right as they are making progress finally. "It feels really good to say that. I love you Maura Isles!"

Jane says excitedly. Maura giggles at the sporadic detective.

Jane stands up and pulls Maura up with her. She kisses Maura deeply, eliciting a slight moan from the doctor. Jane turns to face away from the doctor and yells into the empty theatre

"I am in love with Maura Isles!" Maura giggle as she hears the echo. "And I am in love with Jane Rizzoli!" "Whoo!" Maura yells.

Jane just cant get enough of Maura's lips. She kisses her over and over again, each one tasting the doctor in a new way. "I felt like… going insane sometimes… not being… able to do this" Jane says between kisses. Slow and sensual.

"Hmm" Maura hums against Janes lips. The new sensation sending jolts down into her stomach.

Janes phone rings "It's Frost… I gotta take this" Jane says hesitantly. Like any sudden moves she makes might undo the progress she's made in the last 10 minutes.

"He has a match on our vic" Maura smiles. "Then what are still doing here?" They go to the presinct and spend most of the rest of the day confined to their respective work spaces.

Janes mind keeps traveling to their kiss. Well kissing Maura in general. How is she gonna focus in her day knowing that that is what she gets to go home to at some point?

Jane exhales loudly and says under her breath "Whatever you do, don't ruin this Rizzoli. You've waited too damn long"

What do you guys think!? I love the progression. Now we can get into them being a couple- all their firsts! I'm getting excited just thinking about it! Reviews are welcome :)
