Maura, safe haven:

Jane gets ready to leave at the end of the day. She's looking forward to seeing Maura later tonight. Even though she is terrified of moving forward, all the scary what-ifs nearly dominating her thoughts. Frost comes running out of the prescient door leading to the street. "You're still here! We got something big!" He exclaims breathlessly motioning for Jane to follow him in.

Jane looks at the screen intently. "When we got a hit on her face after doctor Isles reversed the cosmetic surgery it triggered an alert with Interpol. They just called us" Frost says, pulling up files. "The victim and her daughter overheard the planning of an assassination on a government official in London. They were refugees in the US waiting to testify in the upcoming trial, the terrorists must have someone on the inside since they managed to track them to Boston. The inspector from the UK warned us that they will be going after her daughter next"

She rubs her palms nervously. "We need her address in Bosten now!-" "-I've tried, they were in Witsec. No one is giving up the information" "Son of a bitch! They already know where she is. If they have someone on the inside, they could be on their way to kill her right now!"

"I'm working on it but this is a serious felony, hacking into The Department of Justice's database won't go unnoticed" Jane looks at Frost already doing what he knows is the right thing, with a worried look. They won't just fire him for this, he would do serious time, Jane thinks, her whole body vibrating with adrenaline and fear.

"Got it. Send units!" Frost says to Frankie as he grabs his gun to holster it. They run to Jane's cruiser and speed off to the address.

They manage to get there just as two black Sudan's pull up to the house. Jane pulls her Glock from its holster and sneaks past them to the back of the house. 6 men with semi-automatics and kevlar vests approach the home in broad daylight. Frost and Jane are heavily outnumbered. The units were on the way but no one was patrolling close enough in the area so far from the city.

She quietly breaks the glass to the back door and opens it. She moves quickly through the house searching for Darcy, the 14-year-old witness who just lost her mother the previous day. Jane spots her sitting with an armed Marshall.

No contact is authorized even for the agents protecting the witnesses to ensure that information about their whereabouts doesn't get leaked. A flawed system in this case since the bad guys already had someone on the inside and they had seconds before they would burst through the door.

The Marshall agent pulls his gun on Jane. "Stop right there!-" "- I'm a detective with BPD! You are in danger, we need to leave now!". She says as she goes to remove her kevlar vest to put on Darcy. "No!" Frost says as he swiftly takes off his own vest to secure around the witness.

The armed men burst through the door and she grabs Darcy's hand and runs to the back door. The marshall turns to fire at the armed men but he is killed almost instantly.

Frost lets off a few rounds as they retreat. They need to be very quick to make it around the house back to the cruiser in time. Jane just hopes they follow them out the back and doesn't ambush them in the front yard.

She holds Darcy very tightly against her and runs to her cruiser. Frost covers them. They make it to the car as the armed men fire their automatic rounds. Frost takes a bullet to the lower abdomen. "I'm not leaving you! Get in!" Jane yells from the driver's seat.

He makes it into the back seat "Go GO AHH! Go!" he yells out in pain, clutching at his wound. "Get down!" Jane says motioning to Darcy in the passenger seat. The second vehicle chases them as three units pull up on the street.

"Fuck were no match, those Sudan's are armored." Jane says as she sees the officers shoot at the reinforced bullet-resistant glass in vain. The neighborhood was situated on the edge of a mountain, right outside of town.

Jane drives swiftly to put some distance between her and the two fast-approaching armored vehicles. She watches as they ram one of the squad cars off the side of the mountain in her side mirror. "Dammit! How you doing Frost?" she asks, glancing in her mirror at Frost who is losing a lot of blood.

"I'm ok... Ah... Just get us out of here" he says between painful breaths. "Officer down. Officer down. We are in retreat, heading southbound on Garner rd. Send air support. Suspects are in armored vehicles. I repeat. Two black armored vehicles are in pursuit. We have the package. Over" Jane radios in, her voice barely holding.

She watches her side mirror in horror as the armored car comes up in the left lane, into oncoming traffic, to pull up beside them. The Sudan starts smashing into the squad car and she could see the window rolling down and a semi-automatic being pointed at her.

She slams on the brakes and they move past them. Just then a helicopter comes up on the side of the mountain. "They should have a roadblock coming up, Frost. Frost?" Jane looks in her mirror and sees him unconscious. "No-no-no Frost!" He is no longer applying pressure to his wound and losing even more blood.

"Sweety I need you to be brave ok? Can you do that?" the girl nods "I need you to get in the back seat and hold pressure to his wound ok?" the girl nods and climbs to the back where her partner is lying unconscious. "AHH!" he exclaims as she pushes firmly on his wound.

"That's it! Good job Darcy. Talk to me Frost" The men start shooting desperately at the cruiser, knowing they don't have much time to finish the job before the police would gain control of the situation.

Jane tries to remain in control of the car as they start slamming into the side of the cruiser. "I need you to put your seatbelts on Darcy. Yours and his. Do it now!" Darcy starts to secure Frost's seat belt then her own "Ow" she exclaimed looking down at the bullet in the center of the vest.

"What is it? Are you hurt?!" Jane asks, swerving the cruiser to dodge the oncoming rounds. "It stopped it. But it hurts" Darcy cries out, pain all over her face. Jane is suddenly very glad for her partners' quick thinking and sacrifice. Darcy would not have survived that wound had he not given her his vest. She only wishes they had the time to get a vest from the trunk for her but they would have been too late, they were on them within seconds.

Jane yells loudly "Nooo!" as they are rammed off the side of the road. The cruiser crashes down the mountain, landing in a heavily forested area. The helicopter loses sight as the cruiser disappears into the treeline. The men exit their cars and pursue on foot down the mountain.

Jane hears faint yells inside the cruizer as she regains consciousness. Her head throbbing. She unbuckles her seatbelt and turns in her seat to look backward "Darcy… you ok sweetie, are you hurt?... Frost! Wake up" Jane gets her Glock. She has one mag left. She could hear the men approaching. They're sitting ducks. Outnumbered 5 to one.

"Get out of the car and run! Hide in the bushes till I come get you. Go!" Jane exclaims to Darcy while climbing to the backseat. The girl climbs out the window and runs into the vegetation. "Frost. Come on, open your eyes" Jane says softly, holding her partner in her arms.

He's cold. He lost so much blood. "Ugh... Is she?.. Safe?" Frost asks softly, his eyes shut, the pain now faded to numbness. "Yeah. Just stay with me. Backup will be here soon. Frost, just hold on. Hold on please" Jane pleads. She takes frost's gun and checks the mag, 2 rounds left. If it wasn't for him she would never have made it out of that house with the girl.

The men surround the cruiser. "Where's the girl!?" one of them yells. Before Jane could point her weapon, a swat team falls down from a helicopter, shooting at the armed men. 3 of them fall, headshots. The other 2 take body shots to their body armor and return fire.

It all went by so quickly. Jane popped off her last rounds out of the cruiser window while she held Frost close. The smoke clears and she looks down at Frost. She placed her hand on his cheek. Cold. "Frost!" Jane's voice cracks. "Frost wakes up, we got them. Come on, we're gonna get you help ok? Please just open your eyes." She can't bear to bring her fingers closer to feel for a pulse. Tears streamed down her face. Jane is shaking violently.

The med team that was on standby move in on the cruiser. Jamming the door open and taking her partner's body onto a stretcher. "No pulse" is the last thing she remembers hearing from the entire day.

Jane falls out of the cruiser. Her vision was blurry. She moves into the wooded area ."Darcy!. Come out, sweetie. It's ok" Jane sobs. Darcy moves slowly holding her lower abdomen. She helps her remove Frost's kevlar. "You'll have a broken rib or two" she says leading the girl to the medics.

Jane refused any medical treatment. She didn't have any other wounds except a nasty cut above her eye where her head hit the side window of the cruiser on impact.

Jane is in a daze. She grips Frost's kevlar tightly. Making her way back up the road. At least 3 other medics stopped on their way down to give her medical assistance "I'm fine! Help the girl" she snaps at them.

She doesn't want anything from them. She doesn't want to be there any longer than she has to. There is only one place she wants to be right now. On possibly the worst day of Jane's life. She's never lost anyone close to her in her arms like that. Maura comes into her thoughts like a siren… calling her. Jane's safe haven.

She "borrowed" one of the patrol on-scene's cruisers and headed straight for Beacon Hill. It starts pouring rain. Thunder rumbles in the distance, not that the blood and dirt-covered detective even notices as she gets drenched walking up Maura's lawn.

Jane sways from left to right in front of Maura's door. Maybe this isn't such a good idea? You could scare her off? I need to see her, Jane says to herself finally before opening the door. "You could have called. I didn't know you were working la-" Maura says moving her gaze from the stove, blissfully unaware of the past 3 hours Jane has endured. They moved so quickly to that house that no one told Maura about it.

"Oh my god, Jane! What happened?" She just stands in the doorway, dripping wet. She's safe. She's home. She just looks at Maura. Her warm eyes. Her soft skin. Maura runs from the kitchen toward Jane. Jane doesn't hear a word Maura is saying at this point.

She moves her blood-covered hand to reach for Maura like she wants to feel if she's real or not. Maura holds the detective in a gentle hug. Jane lets her head drop to Maura's shoulder.

Maura gets her into a shower after her attempt to get her to a hospital failed miserably. She still hasn't said a word. She was covered in blood that isn't hers. She just mumbled Frost's name a few times, tears rolling down her face.

"Jane, please talk to me?" Maura pleads as she holds her towel-wrapped body. Maura is dressing the cut above her eye, sitting on the floor in her master bedroom. "Did something happen? ...To Frost?" Muara finally asks, careful not to push Jane too hard in her current state.

She comes out of her shock-induced haze and looks at Maura like she's realizing she is with her for the first time tonight. "Maura?" she asks, her voice shaky. "Jane I don't know if you're in shock or if you've suffered a serious head injury, please let me take you to the hospital?" "-No... Please I need to be here… with you"

Maura holds Jane tightly to her, leaning back against the bed. "He... gave his vest to her" she says just above a whisper, she shakes slightly, trying to hold back her tears. Maura places her mouth to Jane's head in response. She doesn't know the details of the case just yet but doesn't want to ask questions while Jane is so fragile. "He died… right there… in my arms-I couldn't help him" Jane manages to say before she starts to sob in the doctors'+ arms.

"Jane, I'm so sorry" Maura says softly as tears roll down her own cheeks.

Jane wipes her tears, sits up, and turns to look at Maura. She moves her hand to touch the doctor's cheek. Her eyes moved slowly over Maura's features. Like she's looking at her for the first time. Or the last time? "It all ended" Jane says simply. "In an instant". She couldn't cry anymore, she was too filled with trauma to be sad now. "He was alive this morning... And now he's not" she says in disbelief. Still holding Maura's cheek.

"I know Jane, it's senseless...you're in shock." "I feel like I'm actually thinking quite clearly, for the first time in a while" she moves forward and kisses Maura. Like she's never kissed her before. "-Jane" "-Please...I want you, Maur". This is wrong Maura thinks to herself. She is grieving. Not thinking clearly. No matter how much I want this too. Now is not the time.

Maura breaks away from the kiss. "Jane, this isn't right. You are subconsciously trying to distract yourself from the grief. It's why so many people get pregnant after funerals." Maura says hurriedly as Jane sucks on the pulse point on her neck. God, it feels so good. She's waited so long for this but tonight... it's not right.

"Please Maur. I don't want another second of time to go by without doing this" Jane says breathlessly as she moves to unbutton Maura's blouse. Maura tries to back up away from Jane's touch but she is backed against the bed. She hates the part of herself that just wants to give in and feel Jane all over her. She places her hand on Jane's heaving chest. Her towel threatening to slip from her body.

"Jane, we can't. Not now. This is not how I want our first time to be... I want this too. So much. You have no clue how badly and how long I have wanted to make love to you Jane..." Jane stands and pulls Maura up with her then pushes her onto the bed. "Then let's do it. I need to feel you, Maura. You're the only thing that makes sense anymore. Let me make love to you" Jane says as she kisses Maura's flesh above her breasts. It feels so good, so right. Yet so wrong, Maura summoned all her willpower.

She takes her face into her hands and forces Jane's gaze to her eyes gently. "I know it hurts...bad. But you need to just feel it now. I'm right here Jane. I'm not going anywhere, ok?" Maura says softly. A stray tear rolls down Jane's face and she rests her head on Maura's chest.

What do you guys think? I wanted to give Berry Frost a hero's death since I read that the actor Lee Thompson Young, struggled with bipolar disease until his untimely death. What better way than to have his death have a meaningful impact on Jane and give our ladies a push in the right direction? Time is precious and they have wasted enough of it already. I wanted Jane to finally stop thinking and do for a change!(trauma will do that to a person). Reviews are welcome x
