Chapter Two

It didn't take long for Kagome to become good friends with the boy she sat in front of in class. His carefree personality was easy for her to get along with, but she could definitely live without the way her girlfriends would always giggle and eye them when they were together- as if there was something more there between them, when there wasn't.

With a soft huff, she shook her head upon reaching the bottom of the shrine steps. Toted under one of her arms was the skateboard that Reki meticulously picked out for her. At first, she'd tried to dissuade his attempts, but he'd ended up hearing none of it. She had been entirely defenseless against him when he presented it to her with a bright smile. At his insistence, she began to use that one, opposed to any other she might've possibly found on her own.

With a soft smile on her face, she glanced down at it. The underside had a simple enough design on it, one Reki had proudly designed himself with her in mind, and she adored it. The majority of it was a solid shade of blush pink, similar to the color of the jewel. It had an archer's bow and an arrow crossed into an X position, both of them a deep lurid onyx color.

She placed it on the ground and hopped on it without a wasted second, long hair blowing carefree behind her as she hummed softly to herself.

Among other things, Reki had been entirely serious about helping her learn, and she was having a blast. Once she'd bested the beast of trying to stay on the board within the first five seconds, she was able to learn things a lot easier. Granted, that first hurdle was hard. She had more than enough memories of falling flat on her ass, and on her face a few, very unlucky occasions.

Given her prior hobby of running for her life or more often, fighting for it, she was definitely favoring the sudden swap up for her.

She felt her phone vibrate in from her back pocket, and she curiously tugged it from her shorts. She tilted her head to the side and stopped her movement as she opened the message. It was from Reki. She had just been on her way to meet him at his home, actually.

From: Reki
Hey! Change of plans. Meet me at the park. I have something for you!

Kagome arched a brow in faint confusion at the sudden shift from the plans they'd decided on after parting the prior day. With a shrug of her shoulders, she typed a quick response and slipped her phone back in her back pocket. The next second, she changed the path she'd been taking, hurrying across the road before more traffic could come.

She was mildly perplexed by the promise that he had something for her.

It didn't take her long to reach the park, and she was able to follow her senses to where he sat waiting for her on the same bench they always met up at. She lifted a hand, waving it in the air as a bright smile appeared on her face.

"Reki!" she called out to him, and, on cue, he picked his head up and leaped up from where he sat, waving his arm in the air too, as if to flag her down. She stifled a giggle and came to a stop, using her foot to kick her skateboard back into her grasp. He looked beyond ecstatic, that emotion bleeding into his aura as he jammed a hand into the front pocket of his hoodie, digging around for something. "Hm?" Kagome let out a curious hum, leaning her weight forward. When he suddenly tugged what he'd been looking for free from the pocket, holding it proudly before her eyes, she tilted her head to the side.

"Here ya' go!" Reki exclaimed with a bright gleam in his eyes. Kagome looked at what he held for a few slow seconds before swapping her focus back to his face. Confusion was apparent on her azure eyes as she craned her head to the side innocently.

"What is it?" she asked. Despite her confusion, she took the offered item either way, turning it in her hand as she looked at it. It was a small sticker in the shape of a yellow diamond. What looked like an elegantly designed S was in the center of the sticker in the colors of red and white with a heavy, black outline. It covered most of the diamond shape, spreading off the points of it some. Strung through the S was a black arrow with a red heart opposite of the point.

Reki smiled at her apparent confusion, and he leaned to sling his arm over her shoulders a second later, tugging her into him. She let out a mild huff as she was pulled against his chest, glaring up at him from under her bangs. "Oh, it's just your invitation to probably the coolest thing you'll ever see," he said in a promise, and she hummed.

Well, she was somewhat doubtful of that, given her history, but she was definitely intrigued. She looked from Reki and back at the sticker she held. "Oh, well, you've gotten my attention," she said, pulling out from under his arms and placing her hands on her hips, grinning up at him. "Better hope you can back up those words, Reki," she said. He matched her grin with his own, leaning closer to her proudly.

"You know it!" he exclaimed. "I'm gonna come pick you up at the shrine tonight, so clear your plans if you had any."

Kagome rolled her eyes. "Oh you mean my plans of sleeping?" she grumbled, "oh sure, why not?" Reki snickered in response, and she huffed silently, reaching out with her free arm and socking him in his with her fist.

"Hey!" he yelped, stumbling back a few paces. "Sheesh… you don't look it but you're way strong…" he mumbled, rubbing the place she'd hit. She rolled her eyes, able to feel the humor in his aura as he said those words.

"Keep playing and I'll really make you hurt," she stated as she placed her skateboard back on the ground, jumping on it again a second later. As she went past him, she glanced back and smirked. "You better catch up~" she sang.

Reki sighed and rolled his eyes. "Man, you've gotta have some sort of sixth sense or something…" he grumbled as he followed suit with her, matching her pace easily. "How do you do it?"

"Huh?" Kagome glanced at him fully, confusion in her eyes. "Do what?"

"Oh, come on, you know," he responded, moving his hand beside his head without any genuine direction. "It's like you're hyper aware of everything. It's crazy cool, you know."

A faint flush of pink appeared on her face, and she looked away from him before he could notice. "I-I have no idea what you mean," she responded. She didn't have to be looking at him to just know he was looking right at her, his disbelief clear as day on his face.

"Uh-huh," he responded flatly. "You know… you might be super cool like that, but man you're an awful liar and it sure shows, Kagome."

She glanced back at him, sticking her tongue out. He responded with a similar gesture, and they both giggled.

"C'mon you're really not gonna tell me?" he asked, a pout in his voice. She rolled her eyes and sped up to put more space between them.

"I can't tell you if there's nothing to tell, now can I?" she responded.

Sure enough, she could tell him, if she wanted to. However… she didn't want to. Not from lack of trust or not liking him enough to spill her secrets, but because she wanted a moment to live just as she was now. Free of all that.

She saw nothing wrong with burying that part of her from her public life for a little while longer. She'd tell him eventually, sure, but only when she was ready. Until then…-

"Ugh Reki, you're so slow- yah!"

Her innocent taunt was ruined the moment she glanced fully behind her. When she wasn't paying attention to what was in front of her, she had so very ungracefully ran over an empty plastic bottle laying on the ground, and she was sent stumbling from her skateboard. While she landed sprawled out, wide-eyed and very confused, she heard a familiar laugh start up from the redhead.

"Hahaha!"

Reki caught up to her and grabbed the back of her shirt, pulling her up and helping her onto her feet all the while he kept laughing. Without missing a beat, he flicked her in the middle of her head, and she huffed, that same flush of pink returning to her cheeks.

"Oh, real big talk from someone still tripping over water bottles," he taunted. Kagome huffed and snatched the bottle up with a mild growl. She threw it into a trash bin with malice in her eyes.

"... maybe Sesshoumaru was right to hate humans so much…" she grumbled. Those were words she never thought she'd say, but boy was she feeling that right about now. Reki glanced at her, confused.

"Huh, what was that?"

Kagome perked up, spine straightening, as she forced a mild laugh. "Haha, oh, it was nothing. I was just mumbling."

He seemed to accept her explanation easily enough, and he paused long enough to wait for her. "Fine, fine," he said. "Well, get a move on slowpoke."

Resuming her place on her board, she followed after him. "Alright, let's go!"

It was later that night when she told her mother she was heading out. She was answered with a nurturing call of "be safe" as she left. After everything, her mother was confident in her ability to take care of herself, so that definitely made leaving with minimal explanation a whole lot easier. Which was lucky, because Reki hadn't been the most informative as to where he was taking her. Still, she trusted him, and if something, by chance, went wrong, well… she was still very familiar with the combat Sango taught her. Enough so that she could weasel her way out of a sticky situation if it came down to it.

She was waiting at the base of the shrine when Reki texted her and told her he'd been there in a few more minutes. She sat down on the bottom step as she waited, resting her chin in her hand. Without warning, the bushes beside her started to rustle. She jumped up, and a familiar creature soon leapt out to join her. A small smile appeared on her face as she opened her arms for the cream colored cat to jump into them, to which she joyfully did.

It had been out of the blue when Kirara first came to her. The one to bring her to her, out of everyone, had been Sesshoumaru. It had been two weeks ago, and she'd seen him one other time since then. While he didn't hate humans as much as he once did, he was still cold and damn near unapproachable to anyone with working senses. One look at him spelled danger in nearly every possible way.

She let Kirara hop up onto her shoulder just in time for Reki to come to a stop in front of the shrine grounds. Without waiting, she went to join him.

"You ready to go?" he asked, and she nodded.

"Well, as ready as I'll ever be," she said, and he smiled, nodding for her to follow him. Without waiting, she did as requested.

It was so loud everywhere around her, and there were so many people everywhere she went. She was getting an overload in every possible way, and she couldn't tell if she liked or hated the lively air that surrounded everywhere. She stuck close to Reki, Kirara in one arm and her skateboard under the other as she looked around, somewhat starry eyed.

Reki glanced over at her with a proud smile. "So, is it cool, or what?" he asked, and she looked at him upon catching the familiar sound of his voice.

"Okay, I'll admit," she said, coming closer to him when more people walked around her. "This is… well, it's pretty cool," she said. Reki beamed at her response, soon enough glancing down at Kirara's napping form. Kagome followed his gaze, and she felt her smile widen. "It's amazing she doesn't mind the noise, huh?" she asked.

She was relieved that Kirara was so calm. That meant she felt at peace for the time being. She knew that the cat would be quick to react in favor of protecting her, so given her docile state, things weren't too bad.

"Hey, I just noticed she's got two tails," he commented, and Kagome felt her face pale some. She was quick to think of a lie, but she knew it wasn't a very good one in the slightest.

"Oh, she's just a super rare breed," she commented. "My… my friend gave her to me as a gift, y'know," she said, forcing a laugh as she turned and walked further. The action forced Reki to follow after her, and she heard him hum, sensing his skepticism about the validity of her claim.

That was how she first became acquainted with the secret skateboarding organization called S. After joining Reki there for the first time and witnessing the races held, she instantly became mesmerized by it all.

Maybe it was her heart's way of saying she missed a little thrill in her life. After going through literal hell on the other side of the well, she had come home and taken full advantage of her chance to be an ordinary school student. She should've known that it was only a matter of time before she began to crave some form of adrenaline to replace the fleeting memory of her time fighting for her life against demons.

While it wasn't exactly the same, she didn't mind. After all, she'd gladly take skateboarding and watching the races over tangling with demons for her life anyday, so, to her, it was a massive step up.

Reki was ecstatic when she became enamored with joining him, and they often went together. Some days when he couldn't make it, but she still wanted to go, she'd tag along with his boss just so she didn't go alone. After all, as long as she brought Kirara along, he was always happy to have her join him, too. Kirara always joined her, never letting her leave without her. The one time she did, she found her waiting at the entrance and stunning the amassed skaters present as to who the hell she belonged to.

"Does it hurt any?" The worry in her voice wasn't lost on him, and Reki looked from the ravenette that was currently bandaging his injured arm and to the ground between them. Kagome furrowed her brow and jabbed her elbow into his ribs, making him yelp. "Hey! I asked you a question, so you better answer me, Reki!"

"I-It's fine," he said, and Kagome narrowed her eyes. She pursed her lips together at his distracted tone, fighting the urge to shake her head as she slowly pushed some of her energy out to help heal some of his injuries. Nothing too extreme that would be noticeable, just enough to make the pain fade and speed up the healing process.

Kagome finished the roll of bandages and took his hand on her own, using it to pull him towards her. "Sheesh, look at you," she grumbled softly. She reached a hand out to swipe her fingers across some of the dirt on his forehead. "You've gotta be more careful, you big dummy," she chided softly. "Do you have any idea how worried you made me?"

When his race against Shadow went wrong for him, she'd gone into protective mode in a single second. She was never more grateful for her learned instinct of carrying a first aid kit with her everywhere she went.

"You could've really gotten hurt. Like really badly," she said, her tone hardening. "Hey! You listening to me?" When he nodded, she sighed and shook her head. "Unbelievable," she grumbled to herself. "I don't wanna see you making those same dumb mistakes your next race, you hear me?"

Reki's lips turned upwards at her comment, and he picked his head up and smiled at her. "Yeah, you got it," he said. "I'll be more careful, too, okay?"

Kagome matched his smile with her own, and she grabbed his uninjured wrist to tug him along. "Now come on," she said. "Your boss is waiting to give us a ride home. We have school tomorrow, remember?"

With those words, he fell into pace behind her. Kagome let out a mute sigh as she resisted the urge to shake her head.

The next morning she was still exhausted when she arrived at class that day. She spotted Reki in his seat, distracted by something in his notebook. She sat down in her seat, turned to face him, and rested her chin on her palm as she watched, fascinated with what he was doing. When he noticed she was there a few seconds later, he lowered his pencil and smiled at her.

"How's your arm feeling?" she asked once she had his attention. He moved his bandaged arm a bit in a few different angles at his wrist and he smiled brighter.

"It doesn't hurt," he said, and she smiled, breathing a sigh of relief. "It's like you have the magic touch when it comes to this kinda stuff," he commented, and she stifled a laugh.

"Don't be silly," she said, rolling her eyes. "I bandage you up all the time. Don't go acting like I'm some sort of miracle worker now."

Sure, she often always used her energy to help expedite the healing process, but what he didn't know wouldn't affect her secrets in the slightest. Reki rolled his eyes at her response.

"Hey, check this out," he said, pushing their prior conversation to the side and showing off his notebook for her to look at. She downcast her gaze to the white pages not even a second later, looking over what he offered to show her.

"Oh, looks good," she commented, and she pointed at one of the seemingly newer designs. "That one reminds me of Kirara," she added as an afterthought. The drawing was of a small, feline-based animal with twin tails, much like Kirara had. It was posed in front of a crescent moon and smoky-looking clouds encasing it. It didn't look all that similar to her, despite the tails and other features, but one thing that did catch her eye was the small, diamond-shaped mark in the center of its forehead.

Reki smiled and nodded. "That's because she inspired it," he responded, and Kagome almost let out a squeal of excitement.

"Oh, no way, really?!" she exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. "Oh, it looks amazing," she said, but before anything else could say, the sound of something being written on the chalkboard caught her attention. The classroom around her slowly silenced itself as everyone else turned their focus to the board.

Kagome turned in her seat so she was facing the front, sending Reki a look to let him know they'd talk later, and she was a bit curious upon spotting an unfamiliar face in the front of the room. She craned her head to the side when her eyes met a lighter shade. She held his gaze for only a second before he looked away.

The silence only grew as the teacher glanced at the boy, somewhat expectantly, only for him to return the look.

Kagome took the time to familiarize herself with his features, from his neutral expression to his unusually colored hair. The shade was a close match to his light blue eyes, and it fell with a part in the middle.

"So, go ahead and introduce yourself," the teacher encouraged, and the boy looked back out at the rest of the room.

"Oh… uh- Hasegawa Langa."

More silence followed, and it was clear the teacher was expecting a bit more to be said. He glanced at Langa, silently imploring him with a look. "... is there anything else you'd like to share?" he asked after a few more seconds of silence. "Anything at all?"

"Oh…" Langa paused for a moment, seeming to think about what to say. "I'm from Canada," he eventually said, and more silence followed. The teacher hid his exhausted sigh and let it go, eventually encouraging him to head to his seat.

The day went on as normal, and when lunch rolled around, Kagome wasted no time in turning in her seat to look at Reki as he was, once again, focused on anything other than his work.

"Anyway," she said, continuing as if they'd never been interrupted. "You think I can get that design as a sticker for my board?" she asked, referring back to the one he'd done of Kirara.

Reki was stunned for a moment as his mind backtracked to their prior talk, and he nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, of course!" he said. Kagome's smile brightened and she clasped her hands together, overjoyed.

"You want it in black and white, or do you want it colored?" he asked and Kagome thought it over for a second.

"I like it as it is," she said finally. "Although… maybe make her eyes red, like they really are?" she suggested, and he nodded. He picked his pencil back up and made a note next to the drawing of her request.

"Got it!" he said, and Kagome grinned.

"What else have you been working on?" she asked.

Without any hesitation, Reki turned the page, and she listened as he went on about what he'd drawn and what the little notes he'd made in the margins meant. As she listened, she felt the weight of a gaze land on her, and she subtly glanced at the blue-haired boy that had taken the empty seat beside Reki. When he became aware she saw him, she sent him a smile before turning back to what Reki was discussing, chiming in with her own thoughts when it shifted to the discussion of the races.

Auroua-chan: I'm gonna end this one here. It's been a few weeks since she and Reki met, and she's become a bit skilled at skating.
Kagome's gonna be a skater in this story, oh yeah. It'd be way too boring if she just stuck to the sidelines and cheered them on. (To me, at least, and probably for a lot of you all-)
It won't be much longer before she runs into Joe and there's no telling how that'll go lmao.
Also before I close up; A very quick head's up- Adam's gonna be a nasty problem and Kagome's gonna hate his guts. With them, everything else- well it'll get revealed as the story progresses and he's actually introduced. How it'll end between them is up in the air for now. It can really go either way.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
