It had been a few days since she'd had coffee with Blake. And Weiss needed to return the umbrella that Blake had so graciously left with her. Most importantly, she needed to nonchalantly return the umbrella.
How hard could it possibly be? She could open the front door of her apartment, walk the twenty feet or so over to the next door, knock and then hand Blake the umbrella, smile and say thank you and then walk back home. Easy. So why was she so incredibly nervous? Blake had never done anything to make her feel uncomfortable. Quite the opposite in fact. But it still had Weiss pacing her living room, holding the umbrella in a vice grip.
Steeling herself, she grabs her keys off of the small entryway table by the front door and walks outside, closing the door behind her. Slowly, actually agonizingly slow, she makes her way to Blake's door and knocks three times. The knocks aren't near as harsh as the ones she is used to placing on the door. Huffing out a nervous breath, she smoothes over the front of her clothes just before the door abruptly flings open. The smile she had put on evaporates when the same blonde from the cafe is in the doorway to greet her instead.
"What's up, hot stuff?" The girl props herself up comfortably against the doorframe and crosses her arms over her chest. Weiss is not amused in the least by the smirk on Yang's face.
"I beg your pardon?" Weiss stares her down, the glare on her face portraying all the emotion she can spare.
"Maybe what's up ice queen would've been a better option to go with." The blonde rolls her eyes as she uncrosses her arms and stands back up straight. She's fairly tall. Slightly taller than Blake, but not much. Weiss had played this scenario over and over in her head as she paced her apartment, but the blonde had conveniently been present in absolutely zero of them. After a few more seconds of awkwardness, the blonde gives up. "I'm Yang, by the way. I'm your noisy neighbor."
When Yang unexpectedly reaches her hand out for Weiss to shake, Weiss lets her manners take over, outstretching her own hand and grasping it firmly.
"I figured that was safe to assume since Blake seems to be much quieter than you." Well, there go her manners.
"And I think I'm just going to go get Blake now." Yang laughs once halfheartedly before turning on her heels and disappearing into the apartment, leaving Weiss standing there alone like an idiot, still clutching the umbrella.
After a few more seconds, she hears Yang yell out from somewhere further back in the apartment.
"Hey Blake, the pretty girl from next door is here to give you back your umbrella. You better go get it."
Weiss can hear the lofty and teasing tone in Yang's voice, which is shortly followed by the sound of someone scrambling around and the pitter patter of feet making their way towards the door. She sees Blake making her way down the hallway towards the door, straightening her shirt and brushing her hands through her hair quickly just before the sound of loud music begins to echo down the hallway behind her.
"Sorry. I was studying in my room and Yang was closer to the door." Blake greets her with the same small smile. "Hi."
"It's not a problem." Weiss clears her throat and stands up a little straighter. "I just came to return your umbrella." Jutting her arm out, she offers the umbrella back to Blake.
Weiss can't really determine what the feelings are that are churning inside of her mind right now. But she does take note of Blake's hand brushing against hers as Blake takes the umbrella and turns, leaning back slightly to hang the umbrella up on its holder just inside the door. It would be a lie if Weiss said she hadn't caught herself looking when Blake's shirt rode up just a little bit when she stretched backwards to hang the umbrella up. She immediately looks away when Blake turns back around fully, returning all of her attention to Weiss.
"Does she play music that loudly all the time?" She asks Blake coldly as she gestures back towards where ever Yang is, seeming to have forgotten her manners.
"Oh um, usually I spend more time at the hospital or on campus studying so I'm not really sure." Blake rubs her hand on the back of her neck, making her hair shift slightly from side to side. "Yang DJs to make money. So I can't really complain too much if it pays half of the rent. But I know it's disruptive to you, so I have asked her to keep it down. She put up soundproofing in her room and a few other things, so hopefully that helps. It's loud right now because she left her door open." She looks at Weiss apologetically, and with that look Weiss would've forgiven Blake for nearly anything. But she wouldn't be forgiving Yang any time soon.
"I don't want to cause any discourse between you and your, your" Weiss doesn't know the extent of their relationship and didn't want Blake to think she had just assumed, or overstepped, "your Yang."
The small smile on Blake's face creeps into an amused grin.
"I think I'm going to go to the library to study, if you would like to go? Since it seems Yang is set on getting ready for her busy weekend for the rest of this evening."
It doesn't go unnoticed by Weiss that Blake has strategically chosen to avoid confirming or denying the more than friends status of her relationship with her roommate, which makes her squint her eyes before answering.
"I might as well. I have a paper to write. The quiet could do me some good."
"Okay. Awesome. I'll pack my bag really fast and I can come get you in about ten minutes?"
"Sounds agreeable. I will see you momentarily." Weiss gives a curt nod before turning on her heels.
As she traverses the short distance between their doorways, she hears Blake call out to her.
"I'll knock on your door this time." Weiss opens the door to step back inside her own apartment, looking back to see Blake smiling at her once again.
"I look forward to it." Weiss says as she sees Blake's smile get a little wider as she disappears back into her apartment.
