After a day or so of coordinating their schedules and going back and forth, the two of them had settled on an evening to have dinner. And the three days it takes for that day to finally arrive feel like they were rolling backwards through time. Or at least Weiss thought so.
She had done her best to resist texting Blake too many times. If anything, for fear of looking desperate. And she was sure Blake was extremely busy. She hasn't seen her in passing at all since they had gone to the library.
So when she leaves for class that morning, and she gets a message from Blake while she is getting into her car, she can't help but smile at her phone.
+ Good morning! Just making sure you are still okay with our plans this evening.
~ Of course. And how did you know I was already awake? Good morning to you as well.
+ I may have seen you walk by my kitchen window on your way to the parking lot. You look nice, by the way.
Weiss is glad this conversation is over text because she would be embarrassed by the blush in her cheeks if Blake were to see them. She types out a thank you as a response but finds it not sufficient enough, and is relieved when another message from Blake suddenly appears.
+ Not that you don't always look nice…
Weiss smirks as she slides her phone into her bag and begins the drive to campus. As soon as she can, she retrieves her phone as she starts the walk toward her lecture hall.
~ Thank you. I appreciate you noticing.
She can't help but shake her head at herself. That sounded completely vain. She figured the next best thing to do was to change the subject as quickly as possible. Weiss rapidly types out another message and sends it.
~ Do you have class today?
+ No. I just got home from the night shift. So no class today. Just going to get some rest. Text me after class? If I don't answer, I'm not ignoring you, probably just asleep.
~ I have classes until about 2pm. Get some rest and I'll text you later. Sleep well.
+ I'm so tired I almost said 'you too.' I'll talk to you later.
The worst thing about business school was that it could get agonizingly boring. But that could probably be said about any field of study at some point. So Weiss wasn't the least bit sad when the professor let them go half an hour early.
Now she had time to go get a coffee and read a little bit before she had to go to her last lecture. What she hadn't planned on was her other, more boisterous neighbor to sit down at her table and strike up a conversation.
"Hey there ice queen, fancy seeing you somewhere other than my doorway." Weiss can tell from Yang's tone she's trying to be funny. But Weiss finds herself not quite amused.
"Fancy seeing you at an educational institution."
"Oh, so you do have a sense of humor." Yang smirks at her before taking a sip of her iced coffee. "I heard you have a date with the soon to be doctor Belladonna this evening."
She wiggles her eyebrows, making Weiss noticeably roll her eyes. Also, Weiss doesn't hint that she didn't know Blake's last name until this moment. She didn't need to give Yang any reason to further tease or antagonize her.
"Blake and I are going out this evening, yes."
"I'm sure you two little nerds will have a great time."
"I plan on it."
"Well, I will be out late this evening. I have a gig. You know, in case it goes really well for you." Yang winks, and Weiss' mouth falls open slightly at the insinuation.
"You have no need to stay out late on our account." Weiss says dismissively.
Yang stands up from her chair and grabs her bag, pulling it up onto her shoulder.
"Whatever you say, ice queen. Don't forget, Blake's really good at human anatomy. In case you change your mind."
She hears Yang chuckling to herself as she makes her way out of the coffee shop, leaving Weiss to finally get some reading done in peace.

The remainder of her time in the coffee shop was productive. She wishes she could say the same for her final lecture of the day. Which seemed to drone on for what felt like an eternity. Weiss tried to make the time pass by occasionally stealing glances at her phone. Only to see if on the off chance Blake may have sent her a message. Even though she knows Blake is trying to catch up on her rest so that she's ready for their dinner this evening, Weiss can't help but feel a little bummed out when her phone has no new message notifications every time she checks.
Her walk back to the car is leisurely. Not rushing, since she has plenty of time to get ready for her plans tonight. She also knows that Blake had asked her to text her when she was done with class. But she also felt guilty disturbing her. So when her phone goes off, alerting her of a new message, she is a little surprised.
+ I heard you had coffee with Yang today. And here I thought I was your favorite neighbor…
~ Of course you are!
Weiss responds immediately, worried that Blake would feel as though Weiss didn't take her seriously.
+ I'm just kidding, by the way. But good to know that I'm your favorite.
Weiss can't help but smile as she rolls her eyes, tossing her bag into the back seat of her car before starting her drive home. When she gets out of the car, she walks up the staircase to her floor and down the open air hallway. As she begins to turn the key in the lock, she hears another door open and shuffling before seeing Blake dragging a trash bin out the door. The bag hasn't been tied closed and it looks as though Blake made a rushed attempt to get everything out the door last minute.
She quirks an eyebrow in amusement as Blake notices Weiss is watching and makes quick work of tying the bag and closing the lid on the bin. She has on what can best be described as loungewear. Not quite pajamas, but not something you would wear around outside of the house. And it would be a lie if Weiss said she hadn't taken a second or two to appreciate Blake's outfit. Especially when Blake raises her arm to rub the back of her neck, making the shirt lift up slightly.
"Oh hey, I um, I totally didn't wait until you got home from your day of lectures to take out the trash so that I could casually see you out here in the hallway. Or so that I could ask you to dress comfortably for this evening. Close toed shoes as well, if you wouldn't mind."
"I guess that means that you aren't going to tell me our plans for this evening ahead of time?" Weiss asks slyly, unable to hide the smile from her face.
"Nope." Blake drags her finger and thumb across her lips, as if to zip them shut. "Don't worry, I am going to shower and I won't be wearing this fashionable ensemble."
"It does look rather comfortable though." Blake nods and a smile tugs at the corner of her mouth before she answers.
"Is five o'clock too early?" Blake must've been able to tell from the mild look of confusion on Weiss' face that she needed to elaborate. "Would it be alright if I picked you up, well, if I walked over to your door at five o'clock? I don't think picking you up is the right way to say it, since you live less than twenty feet from my front door."
"Five o'clock is perfect." Listening to Blake ramble only makes the smile stay on Weiss' face.
"Perfect." Blake nods slightly. "Okay well, I'm going to go back inside my apartment now and figure out what I'm going to do with the next few hours. And I will see you at five."
"Try not to miss me while I'm gone." Weiss teases as Blake steps back through her doorway.
"Not likely." She hears Blake say louder than normal before the door closes, leaving Weiss alone in the hallway. The feeling of excitement bubbling within her chest.
