Chapter 9: What We Are
James, Dylan, and Lisa stood behind their grandparents, who were wearing blue cloaks and had staffs in their hands. Cynthia looked at her grandchildren. "I know," she said gently. "We were hoping to avoid this."
"We kind of knew this would happen someday, Grandma," James said.
"It's the reason we've been ready for so long, but with us having to hide our magic from the monsters...," Lisa trailed off.
"It was hard to do," Dylan said sadly. "They looked so betrayed."
"We'll smooth things over when this is done," Charles said.
"If we do make it out of this," Lisa said sadly, a few tears escaping her eyes. "Brothers, what if we don't make it? We'll never get to tell the ones we have feelings for how we feel, if they even will want us after all this."
"We've got to make it," James said firmly. "Did you give them an escape route?"
"Yes," the nineteen-year-old said.
"Then all we can now hope for is the best," Dylan said as their neighbors gathered with them.
"They're almost here," said one. "And they outnumber us greatly."
"Then let's help you even the odds," came Undyne's voice and they all turned to see the monsters and two human children standing behind them, the monsters looking ready for battle while Frisk, Chara, and Asriel held hands.
"What?" James asked in shock. "No! You have to run! Take Frisk and run!"
"You've got to get out of here!" Cynthia said urgently.
Asgore shook his head. "You may not have told us the whole truth, but there is one thing we know for sure," he said. "You had every opportunity to get rid of us, but instead, you welcomed us into your home as if we were old friends, even made us part of the family."
"You hid your magic from us, but you felt you had a good reason to and perhaps you did," Toriel said. "But we've seen how evil mages fight. Even with all the good magic you have, you're going to need help."
"We're some of the strongest monsters of the Underground," Gaster said with a nod. "Besides, don't you believe that humans and monsters can work together? Even live together in harmony?"
The mages all looked surprised before Lisa nodded. "I did tell them that we believed that," she said before looking at them. "But... are you guys absolutely sure?"
"You're willing to fight for us," Sans said, his left eye going dark while his right eye lit up. "We might as well return the favor. Besides, Frisk is a part of both our family and yours."
"So that makes us one big family," Papyrus said with a nod.
"We can sort out hurt feelings and the rest later, after we send our enemies packing," Grillby said.
"I agree," Muffet said. "Now is not the time to be fighting each other. It's a time to unite and show those evil mages that what the good mages believe in is possible."
James looked at his grandparents. "We could use all the help we can get," he said. "Wouldn't hurt to have an extra trump card."
"He's right, dear," Cynthia said to her husband. "As are the others."
Charles nodded. "Then gather around and get ready," he said. "For this will not be an easy battle."
"We won't give up," Undyne said, pulling out her spear.
"Because this family is worth fighting for," Frisk said. "This whole family."
Lisa and her brothers smiled at the child before they all faced the mass coming towards them. Leading them was the police chief and he looked ready for conquest. "Get rid of them all!" He yelled into a megaphone. "Monsters have no place here! No one who is against us has a place here!"
The crowd took up the chant and Charles raised a hand before bringing it down. "Now!" He called out.
Magic flew from the good mages and the monsters, trying to push back the evil mages who threw out strong attacks of their own before a shockwave shook the Earth, making most everyone fall down before a lightning attack hit the good mages and the monsters, making them all cry out before they staggered, most falling down. The evil mages advanced, but were stopped by a strong barrier that Cynthia and Charles had put up beforehand. "Take down the barrier!" The police chief said. "They can't stop us!"
"They won't stop us!" Said a familiar voice and James looked up to see it was his mother with his father advancing.
"They are weaker than us!" Said the father.
Lisa reached forward and took James' hand. He nodded and took Dylan's hand and the three stood up. "You're wrong," the girl said, her voice echoing. "We can stop you and we will stop you."
"All three of us," Dylan said.
"You won't harm any member of this family," James said.
"And we don't just mean humans," Lisa said.
The evil mages laughed, as did the police chief. "And what can you possibly do that we can't?" He taunted.
The three siblings looked at each other and nodded before taking deep breaths and closing their eyes, opening them moments later to reveal their eyes were glowing brightly. Lisa's were glowing with one eye glowing blue and the other yellow, one of James' eyes was glowing green and the other was glowing orange, and Dylan's right eye glowed purple while his left eye glowed red.
But that wasn't the thing that startled the evil mages the most or the recovering monsters while the good mages looked awed.
The three siblings transformed, still looking human, but with a small difference. Lisa's hands become skeleton hands, the white bones glistening in the sun. James' teeth became sharp and pointy while claws grew out of his hands and Dylan's skin became scaly and rough like that of a dinosaur. Cynthia smiled before addressing her daughter and son-in-law. "This was why you wanted them so badly," she said. "Why we had to rescue them. Because of this."
The son-in-law looked amazed. "They're exactly what we dreamed they be," he said.
"And now, once we get the barrier down, they'll be ours to control, along with the little brat," his wife said.
"Wrong again," Lisa said. "You're not getting us or Frisk."
"Did you forget? We're stronger than you and not just because of our magic," Dylan said.
"But because of our family and the fact that we fight on the side of good," James said. "Grandma? Grandpa?"
The two nodded. "It's up to you three now," Charles said. "The barrier will hold for a bit longer."
"Then we must work quickly," Lisa said before the three began moving towards the evil mages, the good mages making way for them.
The police chief looked stunned. "That's not just a magic trick, is it?" He asked.
"No, it's better than that," said the leader of the evil mages. "They're the strongest of all."
The three siblings stopped before raising their right hands, which were glowing and they fired, the beams of magic going through holes that Charles created in the barrier and the magic fell upon the evil mages, making them freeze up before something left them and mingled with the magic hovering over them. "They're stealing our magic!" Someone said.
"Correction, we're using your magic," Dylan said.
"It's inescapable," James said as the evil mages began falling to the ground and vanishing in midair.
"What's going on?" The siblings' father asked.
"We're making sure you can never harm anyone again, nor will you ever come after us or any member of our family again," Lisa said. "Because this is where we stop you once and for all."
"What are you?!" One mage asked fearfully.
The nineteen-year-old girl smiled. "We're tri-breeds," she said. "Human...mage...and monster."
The monsters were shocked about this. "I...I didn't even know tri-breeds existed," Asgore said.
"They're rare, but they do exist," Cynthia said, smiling a little. "Sometimes, it doesn't show up until many generations later."
Raising their hands to the sky, the six traits that the siblings represented filled the sky above the evil mages while one of the good mages came forward, raising a hand and an indigo glow joined the others, making it a rainbow of the seven traits. The rainbow flew around the evil mages, gathering up their magic and teleporting them far away, wiping their memories of the event. As the rainbow swirled around, something akin to a sonic boom filled the air, shaking up the monsters and the good mages, but they all managed to keep their balance.
When the dust cleared, it showed that the evil mages were gone and Charles nodded. "They're gone," he said. "The tri-breeds and that mage wiped their memories clean."
"You mean...the evil mages cannot return?" Grillby asked in surprise.
"Not them, but there are others," Cynthia said. "Hopefully, they'll get wind of this and stay away."
"Cynthia! Charles!" Someone cried out and they looked to see one of their neighbors waving frantically. "It's your grandchildren!"
Hearing that, Frisk ran forward with her family right behind her as they came upon a sight that made them gasp.
Lisa, Dylan, and James were all lying on the ground covered in bruises and scratches and they weren't moving. "NO!" Frisk screamed, running towards them and stopping by Lisa. "Lisa! Wake up!"
The nineteen-year-old didn't move and the ten-year-old girl moved to James and Dylan, but neither of them woke up. Frisk kneeled down again by Lisa, tears running down her face. "LISA! LISA!" She screamed out.
Getting no response, she broke down into sobs, hugging her sister and burying her face into the older girl's neck. "No," she sobbed out. "Lisa, please wake up."
No one else said anything, but Chara and Asriel tried to revive the brothers with no luck. Sans felt his heart seem to break as he looked at the scene. "Lisa," he whispered softly.
Frisk lifted up her head. "I know you thought you were protecting us and you did," she sobbed out. "You didn't tell us the truth because you were scared we wouldn't understand and we would leave. Yes, we felt betrayed, but you proved you were just trying to keep us safe."
She buried her head into Lisa's neck again. "Please, Lisa. I don't hate you. None of us do." She continued sobbing, unable to stop. "Please, come back. Please don't hate us."
It was quiet for a moment before a weak, but familiar voice came to her ears.
"I could never hate you, little Jillaroo."
Frisk felt an arm come around her and she lifted up her head, eyes filled with hope as Lisa's head moved and her eyes opened. She turned her head and looked at her little sister, who was still crying. "Oh, Frisk," the nineteen-year-old girl said, reaching up with her other hand and wiping away the child's tears. "It's going to be okay."
"She's right, Cub," Dylan said, waking up too.
"We could never leave our family, especially you, Eaglet," James said as he woke up as well.
"They're alive!" Chara said happily.
"They made it!" Asriel cheered.
Frisk burst into tears, but this time, she was crying in joy as she hugged Lisa, laughing and sobbing at the same time. "Lisa! Dylan! James!" She exclaimed happily.
The others rushed over, the mages clearing the rubble while Asgore, Toriel, and Gaster helped the three siblings to their feet. The three smiled gratefully before the three hugged each other with Frisk, Chara, and Asriel caught between them in the hug. "We did it," Dylan said. "We're finally free."
"Not just us, bro," James said. "Everyone."
Lisa smiled. "Those people can never harm us again or try to split up this family," she said before looking at Sans and smiling. He smiled back, to her relief.
Asgore looked around before looking at Charles and Cynthia, who both nodded. "Come," the woman said. "I'll make us some refreshments. We have much to talk about."
"That we do," Charles said, looking a bit pensive. "I imagine you all have a lot of questions."
"We do," Toriel said with a nod.
"Come then," Cynthia said, leading the way to the house.
It was time for both more explanations and the full truth.
So that was the big secret Lisa and her siblings hid. They are humans with magic and monster DNA in them. How? Next chapter will explain. :)
But will the monsters stay? Stay tuned to find out. :)
And please leave a review, but no flames!
