I made a major improvement when I started to read and write. There's a whole pile of books in my tent, and I want to read and know everything. The Governor ordered a couple of men to train me to fight and I understand why she brought them all together, it's a rebellion against the Queen. I still cannot talk, and they are trying to figure out why but at least now I can understand their conversations. The Queen has the book, a specific one that the Governor ordered Ally to find out where so we can steal it.
I sat in the back at the large round table as the Queen and the General appeared for the fake fight as a distraction with the werewolf clan to sneak into the castle. General Ricardo begins,
"Thanks to Ally, we have the information we need to obtain the book to take back our land and home. I know you are all tired and we have lost many good men…"
He's giving a hopeful speech to encourage the people and giving orders to the asshole, Dan, and several men with him to sneak in the back through a moat. I quickly stood up when General Ricardo called me, that's the first.
"Masha, I need you to organize a group."
Does she think I'm ready? It's been months, exactly seven months of training and learning the words. What does she want me to do?
"I need four volunteers to go with Masha. You are going to bring the war to you. Talk to Lockwood to have him organize his packs to those four towns. Stay alive and come back. Good luck everyone."
The Queen has thousands of militias, so we divided into four towns to alert the White Kingdom to send their troops as well. Are we doing this? I rally our men, it was ten instead of four volunteers, three of them are women. Our responsibility was to make sure the civilians were not harmed during the war that will force the Queen's soldiers to prevent us from destroying the town. Three of each and Lucy and I will go to the fourth town. We discussed with Lockwood to trick the White Kingdom into four towns to fight with Queen's troops instead of us.
Lucy and I followed Lockwood near Dothan, middle of nowhere; although, Dothan is controlled by the Queen, so there are always militias watching.
"My men are behind me, so you ready?"
Lucy speaks for both of us, "James' troops going through here?"
"Masha and I cut down woods blocked on three paths, so we made sure they are coming through here. I have men posted on each path."
"Masha, fight with his men, but don't kill them while I burn some of the houses to draw attention."
I already knew what to do, but that does not worry me. This town is the same town as my girl. I didn't realize this town was targeted by the Queen. What is so important about this town? Lucy shook my shoulder and I refocused and nodded, don't worry, Lucy. I know what to do.
Lucy is burning the bar, two houses, and the store as I kept my eye on the whorehouse while fighting with the werewolves. We are just clashing our swords and they are pretending to bleed then fall. Where is she, I carefully search through the crowd while fighting to create a distraction. The White Kingdom and the black knights marched towards here when we kept on battling, burning down everything.
Oh no, Lockwood's men are burning the whorehouse! I sparred with one of the Queen's soldiers and quickly pushed them then ran inside. I covered my mouth, coughing when it went into smoke. The boss is hiding behind the counter, so I grabbed her and showed her out. I saved three other women and asked them where my girl was by gesturing. They pointed inside, the hall was gone, the floor was burning high.
I couldn't see clearly while shouting and coughing. I don't hear anybody else. I ran outside and saw an opening on the second floor. I climbed on the pole to the porch. I jumped the stairs; it fell apart and luckily, I didn't fall down. I carefully zigzag through the burning fire to her room. Thank god for connecting washrooms and bedrooms. My girl is unconscious on the ground in a red robe like always. I lightly slapped her head and woke up. I grumbled and was anxious when she didn't open her eyes. I picked her up to carry her; unfortunately, we're stuck. Oh right, there's a window next to the room, with my free hand I wrapped the blanket over us. I ran through the fire to the next room and jumped through the broken window with my girl in my hand.
The next thing I know, I woke up on the hospital bed in the tent.
"Easy, easy, Masha."
I fought with the nurse, where's my girl?!
"Masha, she's okay!" forcing my head to look at the beautiful girl, my sleeping beauty.
"You saved her. She had a bad fire on her arm, and it's healing slowly."
My eyes lightly in tears, thankfully sigh, she's safe. It was so close. I can't feel my legs as I looked down then with my confused eyes, looked up to the nurse.
"You can't move yet, your legs are caught in the fire. Rest. Congratulations, Masha. You liberated four towns, and that's the biggest achievement. It's a party here, so get well and be with your friends."
She looks excited, more than normal. It's been a while since we have a victory. Did Dan and the men come back safely? I fought to stay awake as I smiled watching my red-haired girl, but I fell back asleep again.
My friends came and visited me several times than the men excitedly yelled with beer, cheering at me. I wholeheartedly laughed at them then the nurse kindly told them to leave, but I'm fine and I want them here.
It was not long after when my legs healed. I haven't seen my girl since the hospital. I inquired with my friends about her, and they didn't know where. I found her in a café tent serving the men's meals and helping other ladies. It's the first time I heard her name, a name I finally can call her, Davina and it suits her well. She has a magnificent singing voice and loves helping people. She's really sweet and friendly, maybe too friendly that makes me a little jealous, I admit. I love how the name curls in my mouth, Davina. I shook myself out of trance when my friends nudged my shoulder.
"Masha, people are waiting."
Ethel pointed at the people lining up, "the line, Masha."
I moved out of the way, apologizing to them for holding up the line. I wasn't that hungry, so I stood by the tent watching Davina and greeting everybody. They were happy to see me up and about. I silently went out of the tent before Davina spotted me. Everyone is busy and noisy in the tent, and I like the quiet to hear the birds and the trees. Without realizing that Sima was looking for me, is it strange that she kept talking to me more than usual?
"Masha, may I have a word?"
I quickly turned when I heard her voice and politely nodded while wondering what she wanted this time. I followed her in her private office, did something happen?
"Do you remember where you lived before you were adopted?"
I shook my head, no. I grabbed the paper and started writing, I was only told that the general dropped me off. The Queen found them and ordered me to run. That's the last I heard from them. I gave the paper to her and she carefully read it.
"Right. You told me that Lady Beelzebub ordered your family killed. Did you know that she ordered her knights to kill everyone under two years old?"
Is she saying that I'm the only one alive at my age? My eyes crossed and shot her a look. What was the Queen looking for? I hastily grabbed the paper and hurriedly wrote the questions, mainly why? I honestly had no idea. The Queen read the questions, I knew she read between the lines that I'm upset and angry.
"You don't know, Masha?"
I shook my head, what?! What do I don't know?! Will you stop talking in riddles, Sima?!
"The story? Enchanted Forest knows the legacy of the Queen and the prophecy. Did the teacher tell you the history of Enchanted Forest, literature class?"
Obviously, the teacher left the big crucial part of the story of Enchanted Forest. I've been reading up on the history of Enchanted Forest, but not the legacy and prophecy. Sima told me to wait here to talk privately with the teacher. I sought both, angrily spotted them whispering then looked back at me. What the hell is going on?
"It seems the teacher left it out purposely for one reason. Do you have the mark on her ankle, red birthmark?"
We walked back into her private office when she questioned me. I looked down at my right ankle, yes what about it?
"I apologize for being afraid to tell you the legacy. Part of the prophecy foretold a person with a red mark."
I don't believe her, me. Is that the reason people are afraid of me and the Queen looking for me? She believes I'm that person. I wrote four words on the paper; I do not believe you. Both read one sentence I wrote then the teacher began before Sima opened her mouth. They are lying, it can't be true.
"Can I tell you a story then?"
Do I want to know the story? I looked curiously between them before deciding if I should hear or not. Sima touches my arm,
"Masha, I know the story by heart, and I can tell you if you prefer to hear from me?"
If I must then I must. Sima dismissed the teacher, thankfully. We sat at the table when she opened the book. It's a beautiful leather brown book with painted pictures which is quoted on the front, Once Upon a Time.
"First, before you know the legacy, you should hear about Alice, as you know now, the Queen."
