Clark dropped Peter off on the landing of the newly remodeled Avengers Tower, Parker kept his mask the pair walked in on Steve, Diana, Tony, and James Rhodes , the War Machine being the only one in any sort of formal wear that was his uniform, Diana and Steve both wore white shirts and brown pants, Tony kept to his typical band shirt and jeans, on this day it happened to be Guns and Roses and Doctor Banner was wearing a tweed jacket and slacks.
"Spooky, Red, and Robinhood won't be joining us?" Peter joked as he looked around the room at the lack of Batman, Black Widow, and Hawkeye.
"They're in Russia on a mission for Fury" Steve clarified as Diana scowled a bit, she was annoyed but knew their help was needed "We were supposed to be returning to Themyscira, my mother wishes to send another one of her daughters to man's world to act as a diplomat, this is the first time in centuries creatures from other worlds have attacked this one" she said as Tony nodded "Well provided this is yet another alien coming in from space I figured we could use all hands on deck but I can be persuaded to leave those of us without Super powers at home just this once" he said tapping a few screens as Clark crossed his arms and stared at how fast the alien was moving "I could go up and meet it, before it hits the moon, as long as I remain near the sun my powers will hold" he said as Banner looked unsure "And if they don't or you need to breathe we can't rescue you"
"We've gotta do something! I cannot, I WON'T-" Tony was rushed and panicked as he spoke but stopped himself "We need to treat this like a threat, we don't know what they want, it could be another Loki" he said as Clark stepped up and put his hand onto Tony's shoulder "I'll go see what it is, I won't leave the planet just meet this thing before it gets to any city"
Tony nodded as he watched Clark walk out onto the balcony and take off. Steve and Diana shared a look of worry for Tony but Rhodes quickly established back to the air force that Superman was going to take a look.
Clark started to see a vision of a man appear just past the moon, shrouded in a green light he was dressed in some kind of uniform with a green top with black sleeves and a set of black pants and boots, if he didn't know any better he'd have said the man was human but even after seeing Superman flying above the clouds Green Lantern continued moving towards the earth but stopped just short of Superman "Well that is interesting, finding a Kryptonian way out here in my sector" the man said with a smile on his face as he extended a hand "Name's Hal Jordan Green Lantern of Sector 2814 or as you'd know it the Milky Way Galaxy" he said with his usual cocky but light hearted disposition "Heard about the recent invasion and thought it would be wise to come see if the planet is in pieces or not, assuming you stopped it?" he asked as Clark nodded "My name is Kal-el, the press calls me Superman and I didn't stop Loki alone" he said looking at Hal before nodding, wondering who else besides this Superman was capable of stopping an alien invasion. "Follow me back to the tower" he spoke taking off back to New York
The team watched Superman return with a human looking male "Everyone this is Hal Jordan, Hal this is the team" he said crossing his arms "Nice, Earth has a super team now, how does this get any better?" he chuckled looking around the room "I know you two from somewhere, and if I'm right you should both be dead by now" he spoke pointing to Steve and Diana "Captain America and Wonder Woman, he was found preserved in ice and she's five thousand years old" Tony said glaring at Hal "So you're from earth?"
"I'm from Coast City, moved to Edwards Air base after joining the airforce." He said as Rhodey stepped away to make a quick call "He's come back with a nice ring to ask us about our recent Chitauri problem. Figured he could see for himself that everything is taken care of right?" Clark asked sitting on a couch next to Peter
"Other than the panic a full scale invasion like that produced, it scared a lot of people." Peter admitted he spent a lot of time talking to people as Spider-man, people were thankful for the Avengers stopping what could have been the end of the world.
Clark turned his head to the landing pad and spoke "I'll be right back, he said before disappearing in a rush, papers flying everywhere as Tony sighed "Jarvis order me a box of paper weights" and quickly after the disembodied voice spoke "Of course sir, they'll be here within a days time" he said as Hal laughed at how advanced the tower seemed since he last saw earth before Rhodes burst back in the door "Staff Sergeant Hal Jordan, you've been Awol since 95, maybe care to explain why that is?" He spoke as the rest of the room looked at him curiously "I've been a little busy protecting the universe since then Lieutenant Colonel" Hal said putting his hands up "And I'm not sticking around this time either, my superiors wanted to make sure the planet was protected" He said as Tony looked concerned "Superiors?"
"Guardians of the universe, pretty much a very old race who act as our commanding officers, the Green Lanterns are an intergalactic peacekeeping force, three of our members are from Earth including myself so we can deploy one of us back here to help out if that's a move you all think we should make, or should I be speaking the United Nations?" he asked as every didn't really seem to know the answer but Steve spoke up "I'm sure one of you guys might be getting a little homesick Hal, we could always use the extra hand around here" He said extending a hand Hal took it and smirked "I'm shaking hands with Captain America" he laughed to himself "I'll be sending Kyle Rayner, he's a good kid but a little crossed on what it means to be a Lantern" Hal sighed, Kyle was supposed to be his responsibility, he was his rookie.
"Personal Drama?" Spider-man asked "Well masked man, if you have to know he fell in love with a criminal who runs around with her idiot brother, I need him to get that we can't be doing that and they seem to be afraid of coming back to here so he'll be busy with her gone" Hal said as the team nodded "We'll have Superman meet him in the same place you did" He said before Clark returned with a sudden appearance "Désolé pour cela, pont effondré en France, nécessaire de-" He coughed "Sorry, had to shake a few hands and say my goodbyes in France, bridge collapse" Clark said having heard the plan for him to meet the other Lantern "I'm afraid that sounds like more of a job for Diana, Thor and Odin wanted me to visit Asgard, I'm going to make that visit." Clark said as everyone seemed surprised "Odin seems like someone you don't want to tick off" Pete said leaning back "I'll watch the city, france is out of my jurisdiction for the time being" he chuckled as the team nodded "Superman goes to Asgard, the Kyle Rayner comes to earth" Banner said trying to work it out in his head "And I don't need to go green" he said with a little pep in his step before grabbing his coat "Where's Green going?" Tony mused as Banner smiled "Betty is coming to New York for lunch, we're going to try and make things work." he said before heading to the elevator.
"Alright so Xena meets your rookie we get a space cop to babysit and you get that rookie away from bad influences" Tony said with a smile as Steve nodded "Great, now can one of you point me to the nearest McDonald's? It's been twenty years since I've been" he said with a laugh as Peter got up "I'll show Space cop to the burgers" He said as the two headed back to the elevator "And you two are heading back to Themyscira?" Clark said as the two nodded "Yeah, I get to go back to an island that took me captive seventy years ago" he said as Diana nodded "You'll be the first man welcome on the island since Zeus shrouded us from the world, be grateful" she smiled taking off with him from the launch pad
"I'm sure you too have suits to tinker with" Clark smiled as Tony nodded "I'm working on a few things, gonna try to help you out with your saving the world, when I'm done I'll have a few robots that can help with the clean up after you do your thing" he said as Clark smiled "That's amazing, but I've gotta go" Clark said walking out to the landing pad "Heimdall!" he cried out before a rainbow portal opened above the sky and took him
The portal didn't open on Asgard as he had assumed it would be. He was on Vanaheim, in the middle of a battle between some marauders and Thor, and what appeared to be his allies.
"Kal!" Thor called out with a grin on his face as he tossed his hammer behind the Kryptonian, Clark looked up to see a Yellow sun and nodded "I'm answering that invitation about meeting your father, but it appears Heimdall had a different idea" he said as his eyes burned red and he burned the ground before a few rock monsters "Stand down! You have no chance of beating us in a fight" he said as a monster slapped him in the back of the head he moved backwards and turned, it was at least twelve feet tall and made of blue rocks, Clark sighed and punched it backwards into a wall, it stunned the monster and Clark looked around at the warriors three, Volstagg laughed "Thor this friend of yours is supposed to be strong" he said as Thor spun his hammer around and broke the monster in a bunch of tiny rocks.
"Yes Kal, why did you not smash that beast to pieces?" He asked as Clark shook his head. "That thing didn't deserve to die." Clark said as he looked concerned at them both "But that's in the past, your father wanted to speak to me and I can feel my desk stacking up with paperwork the more I'm away from home"
"Fear not Kal, the battle is over" Thor said, slapping Clark on the shoulder "You should meet my friends, Volstagg" he pointed to a large and heavy set man with a large Axe in his hand. "Should do me a great honor of doing battle with a Kryptonian" he said as Clark looked him up and down "Why would I battle a friend of Thor's?" he asked as Thor continued "Fandral the dashing, the most talented Swordsman in all the nine realms" he said as Sif coughed and Clark laughed shaking Fandral's hand "He did say Swordsman"
"Handsome and observant" Sif spoke shaking his hand as Thor spoke "This is Lady Sif, and that is Hogun these four are some of the best fighters I've ever seen other than the Avengers of course" he smiled saving face for his new friend
"Right" Clark said as he looked around at the people near them "Are we returning to Asgard now?" he asked as the group seemed to be cleaning their weapons as Thor nodded "My father is excited to meet you Kal, the last son of Krypton could be a helpful ally" he said as he recognized the Warrior's Three and Lady Sif were ready to go as Thor summoned the Bifrost and brought them to Asgard.
They appeared in another blinding beam of colors on Asgard, Clark faced the group and then the ground blinking a few times. For the first time since he was a kid he had a headache, something about the bifrost was overloading his senses.
"Let's get this meeting over with Thor, I've got a job to get back to" he said and the statement was met with glares from the warriors around him "You have a job that isn't being a warrior?" Volstagg asked as Clark nodded "I'm a reporter, it helps me find out when things in the city are happening, or at least that's the idea. So far I'm taking pictures of a friend of mine and writing puff pieces about what happened with Loki" Clark spoke as the rest of them nodded, it made sense but to them a being such as Kryptonian would have a day job, if only it surprised them that he would be playing as a reporter. He could be a fighter or come here and defend the nine realms, but for the most part they kept their curiosity to themselves.
Thor and Clark walked through the great hall leading to Odin's throne, the king of Asgard was starring his son and his new friend down out of curiosity more than anything "Kal-el The Last Son of Krypton. It is a great pleasure to meet one of my son's friends, especially one of such power" he said with a smile, Thor was a little happy to have his father in good spirits.
"I'm am sure being Midgards protector leaves you with responsibility to deal with threats that may crop up in my son's absence but would you be able to join us for a celebration of this last battle? A sense of normalcy is starting to return to Asgard and that is cause to celebrate" he said, clark weighed his options and figured that Peter could protect the city in his absence and Tony might be able to watch elsewhere for anyone that needed help
"Well you strike me as a man to not say no too" Clark spoke nodding as his eyes met the Allfather and Odin simply nodded "Take Kal to the fighting pits, perhaps we can test his mettle against yours" Odin mused as Thor nodded and nearly raced outside with Clark, the God of Thunder seemed excited to have a sparring partner that could keep up with him, he had his friends but he always needed to hold back when fighting them it was always his power over their technique but never wanted to actually hurt them, he broke Volstagg's arm once and since then he decided to hold back but with Kal-el, the last son of Krypton under a yellow sun? He would have to go all out to defeat his teammate.
The two left Odin and began to speak as they left the great hall, chatter among the asgardian people could be heard, who was the man that was brought to speak with the Allfather himself? That was palling around with Thor that no one had seen or heard of before, the women of Asgard thought he was to die for but the men were wondering how Clark could handle himself in a fight.
"Just for the record, I'm hesitant to spar with you Thor" he said as they approached the training grounds, Sif and the Warriors three were standing by, drinks in hand at the ready to watch them fight, others were gathering around to see Thor defeat yet another challenger
"Kal don't tell me you're scared of a little lightning" Thor chuckled as Clark shook his head "I'm not scared" he paused trying to think of how best to word this "I'm worried about hurting you"
Thor simply laughed but understood why he was concerned "Kal, on Midgard you're surrounded by those that would crumble beneath your boot or simply crumble at a punch with your full might" He said smiling "But I am Mighty, and I can take your best. And if I can't I will yield" He smiled, since the moment he met Kal-el this was what Thor wanted, to see who would win in a battle of strength between the two.
Clark sighed and flew over a small barrier into a small enclosure "Then I'm ready when you are Thor" he spoke crossing his arms as he watched the god of thunder stick out an arm and summon Mjolnir and leap at him, Clark felt like time froze as he turned his head looking at the god of thunder approaching him, sparks flew around Thor as Clark side stepped him and landed a quick blow to his side, sending Thor crashing through the metal barrier and straight at the feet of the warriors three, Lady Sif smirked as she watched Thor stare up in disbelief as he was shocked that Kal could move that fast "I'm afraid your new friend might be too fast for even Heimdall to see Oh Mighty One" Fandral laughed as Thor got up and a grin formed on his face "Oh I relish thought" he spoke before walking to Kal, dropping his hammer as he began to punch the Kryptonian, Clark let it happen as he was curious himself.
With each swing Clark stepped back, it felt pain he'd never felt before, but it quickly passed as Clark reached a hand up and stopped Thor's fist, lifting himself off the ground as he launched a shot into Thor's chest, sending him into the dirt.
The god of thunder let out a chuckle and called down the lightning, a blast of blue energy hit Clark causing him a intense deal of pain. He'd never been struck by lightning before, was it actually this bad?
As Thor was amazed he stunned his friend Clark's eyes began to shine a bright red as crimson beams of energy shot from his eyes, they circled around thor never touching him until Clark recoiled as he closed his eyes "This is over Thor' he said as his eyes parted again, the warriors three and Sift were astonished as Thor turned around to see an exact cut out of his silhouette in the stone behind them, Mjolnir included.
"Right, well done" he said palming his hammer as Clark was relieved their little sparring session was over "And for the record that was a one time deal, I won't be fighting anyone else for fun, I still had to hold back against you" He spoke as Thor looked offended "I had wished you'd let me feel the full force of a blow at least once" the Asgardian said as the two began to walk "It isn't that simple Thor, I haven't once in my life truly let loose. I know you're strong but cutting back all my barriers is something even I'm not prepared to do for a friendly sparring session" He said shaking his head as Thor understood, even that show of speed was just Kal trying to avoid having to hit a god of thunder with great force.
"Well then, maybe one day" he said, slapping Kal on the shoulder with a smile. "But until then we celebrate the defense of midgard and to new friends" Thor grinned as the two went to the great hall to feast.
