A/N: So wow I didn't know that this was formatting text. Guess I'll go back to using google docs for my fanfiction then. Word seems to have a weird issue with a dark background that does some formatting thing.
Volstagg was in the middle of what Clark was sure would be another rousing tale of his battles, how Asgard always won the day but Clark was zoning out, he wasn't typically a party person and that's all these people seemed to know, he glanced at Thor before turning to look at the party goers Fandral was busy with women hanging off of either arm, Hogun was drinking across from Thor and Lady Sif was..sneaking up behind him.
"Kal-el you seem out of place" She spoke leaning against railing he was next to, wearing a cloak over her typical armor, he could only laugh as he looked into the goblet in his hands "I've never been one for parties, that's something I share with only one of my teammates apparently" he remarked as Thor walked behind them "Oh I'm sure Diana is wonderful at parties"
"She's not-" Clark stopped and sighed "Yeah I'm sure she's great, not like you I mean Volstagg is smashing mugs like that's going out of style and you're over here acting like a normal human being" He mused as Thor chuckled and Sif put on a faux smile "Yes the future king of Asgard, protector of nine realms but he's seemingly focused on only one of them" Thor looked between them both, not sure which to address first.
"Love does that to people, I had a friend back home in Smallville who would drive 3 hours out of town to see his girlfriend when we were in high school and he didn't have the money to make the drive. Ma had to give him money for doing some field work so he could pay for it" Clark laughed to himself, the two asgardians seemed confused.
"Forget about it, not important I just get the sense Thor is what we'd call on Earth, crushing on a woman" He smirked, intending to tease Thor with a light barb, the two asgardians looked puzzled "Why would Thor want to crush someone from Midgard?" Sif asked "Yes it wouldn't be a test of strength, besides Diana and yourself no one on Midgard can match me"
Clark sighed, he's been and felt like an alien all his life but this? This was like talking to aliens, because he was but the idea of having to explain every little saying hadn't hit him until just now.
"A crush is what we call liking someone, I think you're wishing you were back on Earth with Jane." Clark shrugged as he looked around, catching a barmaid who was bringing ale to the table, maybe this would allow him to feel better in the situation.
"You could come back with me and spend some time with her" He offered the idea to Thor who had to hide the joy the idea of returning to Midgard brought him from Sif, she wouldn't outright tell his father but she didn't like him only focusing on one of the nine realms and she wasn't alone in that sentiment
"Maybe I shall return for a short time err... a short vacation, nothing more than a couple of days and then back here to help my father" Thor nodded as Sif rolled her eyes for moment "We should both go, I would hardly call the Destroyer attacking Midgard a visit and there are these new friends of yours that would be lovely to meet if they're anything like Kal-el" she smirked rubbing the Kryptonian's shoulder
"It's settled then, tomorrow the three of us shall return to Midgard" Thor spoke as Clark nodded, he wondered how Fury or the World Security Council would react, one returning alien going to his hidden life and two more coming by for a visit, God how would anyone take this, was he supposed to act a chaperone to the Asgardians? He'd have to find out, or maybe drop them on Jane Foster, maybe she wouldn't be horrifically angry at him.
"Alright well as nice as the feast has been I think I'm ready to hit the hay" He sighed looking around at everyone still drinking and partying and even among other non-humans he felt alone, like even among beings of similar power, among those who saw him as a potential warrior he felt alone, at least with the Avengers he felt like he belonged, everyone but Thor was from earth, sure some of them were rich, some were secretive, some were much older than him and figures of history. But at the end of the day they were all people of earth, now Clark felt more alien than ever even with them being as welcoming as possible to him, more than anything he wanted to go home, back to New York, back to whatever normal was for him
"I'll show you to the guest quarters then" Sif smiled as the two began their walk-through vast hallways, it wasn't long before Sif began to speak "You're not comfortable in that atmosphere" she noted, Clark thought it was a question at first but quickly found that it was more of an observation.
"No, I can't say I am. Everyone is just so, boastful and loud. Everyone is trying to one up each other with a story, even if they won't admit it. That's just not something I like doing, I don't like hurting people, much less telling stories about doing it later" Clark admitted as Sif smirked, in her day she had met many a warrior who wasn't the type to brag and boast about their accomplishments be it for one reason or another but she had to admit to herself, it was nice to meet another.
"Count yourself lucky you do not live here, else you might be attending these events more often" she smiled as Clark laughed hesitantly "Yeah that would be, well bad but at least the company is nice, everyone seems great I just wish-" he stopped trying to find the words to articulate what he meant as she laughed "You wish they'd just be quiet?" She asked him as the two came to a stop
"Yes, I've got somethings on my mind right now that I could use time to clear but I can't think with Volstagg screaming in my ear about that raid I was dropped in on" Clark sighed, Sif grinned a bit as she thought about the way he spoke, a smile flashed across her face, Clark caught it and returned one of his own "Did I say something funny?" He asked tepidly as Lady Sif shook her head "No, but for all that power the last son of Krypton is remarkably human after all" she smiled opening the door for him, inside was a lavish room, the walls adorned with gold trim around a dense stone, the marble floors were as spotless as he'd ever seen, there was little in the way of furniture which didn't surprise him much, it was what appeared to be a guest room, just a bed he would guess looked like a king sized bed on earth, and a pair of wooden chairs and a table that sat by the large open window.
"I like to think so, I wouldn't presume to be more than any human, I mean I know I am. I know that I'm different physically but" Clark sighed looking down "But you're also the Alien Avenger, the one who doesn't claim to be a God but holds back against one in a fight. You stand alone as the last person from your world, that is a burden and a weight I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy Kal" Sif spoke as he moved to sit down on the bed looking at his hands "It's Clark, I thought that being here in Asgard I'd use my Kryptonian name but I don't want to be seen as that, the alien who's dropped down from the sky to save everyone, I'm just a guy from Kansas" he expressed as he looked up and Lady Sif smiled "You're more Human than anyone I've ever met Clark, if you keep your wits about you I'm sure this crisis of faith will pass and you'll find yourself in."
Clark nodded and laid back "Yeah, at my core I'm Clark just a guy from Kansas not what everyone here or on earth sees me as. I just want to do the right thing." he said standing up, removing his cape slowly Sif smirked before nodding "Do what you know in your heart is right, after Loki's schemes the people of Midgard are going to need those to look up to, to show them that aliens aren't all bad, maybe one day they'll be able to tell the difference between the visitors from the stars, that you are different from me who is different to Thor, at this rate it will take a Kree arriving for them to see anyone as different." Sif half joked, Clark looked up in confusion at the mention of Kree to which she shook her head "We can talk about all the species of the known universe another time if you'd like to know about
"I like to think so, I wouldn't presume to be more than any human, I mean I know I am. I know that I'm different physically but" Clark sighed looking down "But you're also the Alien Avenger, the one who doesn't claim to be a God but holds back against one in a fight" Sif remarked pulling a chair to the bedside.
"There is that, maybe I just need to see where it goes, have faith in the people to trust me." Clark said with a shrug as Sif nodded "I wish I had more to offer, politics of the peoples trust was never my strong suit" she spoke placing a hand on his shoulder, gently squeezing it before she got up.
"come find me tomorrow, we'll get Thor and head out to Midgard, have a restful sleep Clark" she spoke leaving as Clark closed his eyes and fell back on to the bed, falling to sleep quickly.
