Mónica hums a bright and airy tune, a soft smile on her face. She expertly knits in time with her humming. The UA Sports Festival that played through the cheap radio in her room just went to commercials when the door is opened.
"Mónica-san, you have a visitor!" Kiyoko states brightly.
Mónica looks up and stares at the female nurse with a confused expression. "Nariko should be in school..."
"Nariko's in the UA Sports Festival today. Your visitor says he's an old friend." Kiyoko opens the door wider and let's a man walk past her. "I'll be just outside."
The smile is wiped off her face when the man stands in the middle of her room. Her hands freeze and nothing is said between the two as the door is closed again.
"Kokubo." The radio starts to loudly play static. The man smiles conversationally and gives her a nod in greeting.
"Mónica."
"It's Pascual Martínez-Kaminari to you," The black haired woman says coldly, placing the unfinished cardigan on her lap.
"Well Mónica, I'm here on business, so let's get this all over with, yes?" The man suggests while sitting down at the edge of Mónica's bed. She glares at him before she takes a deep breath. The radio slowly goes back to normal.
"I have no business with you, Kokubo." Mónica faces the radio and starts to knit again.
The man chuckles before taking out a small notepad and pen from his coat pocket. "Call me Banri, Mónica. We've known each other for years, after all."
"Fuck you, Banri," She states icily. Banri chuckles before writing something down in his notepad.
"Where is it?"
"Where is what?" Mónica snaps at him angrily. The radio comes back from the commercials.
"The evidence." The black haired woman rolls her eyes and ignores the sudden twitch in her fingers.
"...evidence? For what?" She asks in harsh confusion. Banri sighs and gives her a look.
"We all know you helped Tokurō with... acquiring the evidence–fabricating the false evidence." Banri gives the woman a condescending smile. "Now he's in prison. Mónica, I can help you get better if you just tell me where this evidence is."
"T-Tokurō? He's..." Mónica tilts her head, eyes narrowing.
"He–he can't be in prison... Nariko says he misses me... How is he–you... you have to be lying. Tokurō–Tokurō..." Mónica mutters to herself as she grabs the side of her head. Her fingers grip around her hair and starts to pull.
Banri scowls before he growls under his breath. "Those foolish doctors! I had a feeling that dosage was too high. Pretentious little shits!"
"Mónica-san! I have your–Mónica!" Kiyoko rushes over to the muttering woman, quickly grabbing her hands before she started to pull out her hair.
"Why–why hasn't Denki come to visit me? Wait no... I know why... Why do I know why?"
"I think it's best you leave, Kokubo-san, Mónica-san needs to be calmed down," Kiyoko says quickly, pressing a button on the wall near the black haired woman's nightstand.
Banri sighs heavily and stands up. He gives Mónica a smooth smile and a bow before leaving. He takes out his phone and presses the first number.
"Terayama-san, it seems we underestimated how potent the dosage was on Mónica. We won't be able to get anything, unless we can find another way. Though, she recognized me almost immediately."
"Hm, unsurprising. I don't want Mónica walking freely in society," A female voice speaks through the phone. "Continue with your other errands and report back to me."
Banri puts up his phone when the line cuts off. It seems he has a lot of work to do.
Nariko tugs at Hitoshi's sleeve with a grin. "Put me on your shoulders."
"No. Why?" Hitoshi immediately denies, making her pout. She glares up at him before lifting up her arms. She places her hands on his shoulders and jumps up.
"I said no! Fuck–"
"You keep moving, we'll both fall!" Nariko exclaims as she scrambles up his body. Hitoshi takes multiple steps back and grunts in pain when Nariko's foot steps onto a bruise.
"Sorry." The yellow haired teenager carefully situates herself on his shoulders with a triumphant grin. "It might be better if I only sit on one of your shoulders though."
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Hitoshi asks, turning his head to stare up at Nariko incredulously. Nariko rolls her eyes before pointing up at Midnight while she was explaining the results of the first stage.
"The Sports Festival is always made up of three stages. The knockout, the team, the battles. Knockout was the race, the team's cavalry, and battles are battles," Nariko explains patiently. The purple haired teenager blinks once before opening and closing his mouth.
"How do you even know it's going to be cavalry?"
Nariko gives a bright smile and messes with the strap of her sports bra. "My parents always complained about how predictable the Sports Festival was. It went by a pattern, reusing the games in that pattern. Three-legged race, dodgeball, cavalry, capture the flag, red rover, go, basically all kinds of games you'd play with other kids but on a more brutal level. S'not enough time to explain the full pattern, but this year's cavalry battle."
"Kaminari-san, please be quiet and get off of that student's shoulders!" Midnight states in a strained tone. Nariko rolls her eyes and waves a hand towards herself.
"I'm short. Now, you gonna show us that the next stage 's Cavalry Battle or you gonna drag this whole thing on?" Nariko runs a hand through her hair with a sigh. "I wanna take a nap during the lunch break."
Midnight sputters in shock, trying to argue with the yellow haired teenager. Hitoshi snorts before quickly covering his mouth to stifle it.
"You–how–" The voluptuous woman clears her throat with her face turning a faint shade of pink "–now then, here is the second game. I already know what it is, but here it is!"
A large slot machine screen appears on the hologram before landing on Cavalry Battle. Nariko couldn't help the smug smirk growing on her face when she sees what the second stage was. They really needed to change up that pattern.
"Huh, you were right," Hitoshi states in slight surprise.
Nariko leans over his head to give him a small glare. "Don't act so surprised. I may be stupid academically, but I have a lotta skill you don't even know about!"
"If you can shut up," Midnight gives Nariko a glare, "I can explain."
Nariko flinches and averts her gaze, ears turning red. Hitoshi glances back at her with a small frown before giving the hero a disapproving glare.
"...sorry..." The yellow haired teenager mumbles out, hands fidgeting with each other.
"The participants can form teams of two to four people as they wish. It's basically the same as a regular cavalry battle, but the one thing that's different is... based on the results of the last game, each person has been assigned a point value," Midnight explains confidently.
"We're taking Midoriya-kun for our team," Nariko says quietly, glancing at Midnight for any indication that she heard her.
The hologram changes back to the ranking of the first round with point values added to each name. "Yes, that's right! And the points assigned go up by five starting from the bottom. So, 42nd gets five points and 41st gets 10 points! And the point value assigned to first place is..."
"Sweet baby Jesus," Nariko states in English, staring at the very first name in complete shock.
"...ten million!" Nariko starts laughing loudly, gently holding the sides of Hitoshi's head to keep herself from falling.
"Dibs on Midoriya-kun being on my team!" The yellow haired teenager shouts loudly, voice echoing across the entire stadium. The crowd of students turn and glance at her with starving gazes.
She starts laughing again and gives an incredibly pale Izuku a small wink. This was going to be so fun.
Hey! I hope you all are enjoying the story so far! Bye.
