So I changed a few things Speckletail and Smallear aren't mates in this fic but Lionheart and Goldenflower are Speckletail's kits while Brindleface is Smallear's
Lots of the gods and legends are going to be base off greek mythology..because those are my favorites.
Also here is tigerclaw! and his interation with Blazepaw!
"One- two-one-two," Blazepaw was marching in step, a piece of coal in her mouth as she listened to Speckletail. The golden tabby she-cat was in charge of the Forge in Thunderclan and had a keen eye for those who were good at colliering. During the two Moons, which meant sixty-one nights and two complete moon cycles from clawing to newing. Blazepaw now knew how to count, and much more thanks to the members of ThunderClan.
So many lessons besides counting, for a Moon now, she has been taught the history of ThunderClan, fighting lessons and some with Battle Claws on. She was taught how to navigate by the Stars, which she was told was the spirits of their Ancestors who guided them.
"All right, that's enough," Speckletail announced, "Drop the coal,"
Blazepaw, spits out the coal and rubs her paw against her muzzle. Speckletail chuckles but begins to lecture, "You are doing well...soon you'll be good enough to run in the Tan Aur,"
"Tan Aur?" Blazepaw mumbled in confusion.
"A special time, it's said that a leader of ThunderClan by the name Goldenstar made it," Speckletail said, her amber eyes shining, "It is the most beautiful and wonderful thing to run in it. The way the embers dance off your pelt,"
"What's the story?" Blazepaw wonders and Speckletail blinks and shakes her head.
"I keep forgetting that you are new in our ways Blazepaw," Speckletail mutters and nods her head in apology, "The story of Goldenstar has been told for ages. The story even says he is a Godling,"
"A Godling?"
"It's said that even though the Gods live in Silverpelt they sometimes come down into the mortal plane..one day Taranu met a ThunderClan warrior by the name Snowberry. Snowberry didn't recognize him as the God her Clan worshipped and well..they had a kit. Eura, Taranu's mate, was furious! She sent a child of Saraffa to kill the kit, but the kit even though haven't even gotten his name was able to kill it,"
Blazepaw blinks at this, "How can a kit kill an adder?"
Speckletail shrugs, "No one knows..but Snowberry when she finds out who the rogue she had sire her kit really was named her son, Goldenkit in hopes of making peace with Eura..but still the Goddess was angry. She told the leader at the time that Goldenpaw would never become a Warrior unless he did twelve tasks, all by himself. One of those tasks was to receive the Ember of Ethus which was guarded by Eura's beloved Owls. Goldenpaw was able to grab the Ember and ran, though he was chased by the Great Owls. As he ran back towards camp sparks came off the Ember and the forest was set ablaze..but the forest didn't burn down..instead coals appears made from the bark of firs, pines and some soft and hard wood.." Speckletail then narrows her eyes, "Now don't think that just because the fire didn't burn the forest down doesn't mean it isn't dangerous. A cat can and will be burned to death in a Tan Aur,"
Blazepaw nods her head at the warning.
"Now we don't know where the Ember of Ethus went..some said it was given back to Eura. But fires are known to appear suddenly in our part of the Forest..and we run into the fires to collect the coals which we use for our Forge and even trade to the other Clans," Speckletail shakes her head and gently smile when she sees Blazepaw frown, "Now don't you worry..you'll be train before we even let you run in a Tan Aur and you'll do great..which I am honestly glad..we haven't had a Runner in moons..I thought for sure Sandpaw would have a knack in it, seeing that WIldstep is the fastest Runner we have but alas," Speckletail shakes her head and takes the coal, "Now run along, I think Bluestar wants you,"
Blazepaw turns just as Bluestar calls her name, nodding respectively at Speckletail, Blazepaw heads over to her Mentor. She glares at the blue-gray and ginger molly who was chuckling at her when she tripped over Cinderkit, one of Lionheart's and Frostshine's kits.
"Sowwy Blazepaw!" Cinderkit mews, not really sounding sorry at all as she ran over to tackle her brother Brackenkit. The four kits had recently earned their names having survived their first two Moons. Blazepaw had learned that the Clans waited to name their kittens to make sure that they wouldn't be stuck in Silverpelt as kittens. It was said that a Silverpelt Messenger only faded when they were finally forgotten and then reborn.
"They're getting stronger..already getting underneath everyone's paws," Bluestar smiles, "So how was your lesson with Speckletail? I heard many call her a hard task pleaser,"
Blazepaw shrugs, "It's ok..but I wish the coal tasted better," she scrunched her face, "And I'm also wondering how the Twolegs never notice a fire,"
"Ah so she told you the story of Goldenstar," Bluestar's chuckles and shakes her head, "She always loved talking about that legend,"
Blazepaw blinks and tilts her head, "Why?"
"Her kits are named Lionheart and Goldenflower..prefix usually given to kits to bless them..no one knows who their Sire is..which Monarchs are allowed to not tell..but rumours are that the Sire is the god Taranu himself.." Bluestar chuckles and shakes her head, "Speckletail always loved those rumours but she never said it was true but she never said they were false,"
Blazepaw looks to where Lionheart was playing with his kits, giving Frostshine a break. The Deputy was yelping as Brightkit was biting onto his fur and pulling. Blazepaw turns to Bluestar and meows, "Really?"
Bluestar chuckles, "Yes..now I have a task for you," Blazepaw looks up in excitement, "Don't get too excited it's just a hunting task. Even though Greenleaf is here we need to eat as much as we can before Leaf-Fall begins to come back,"
Blazepaw nods before she climbs up the ravine, waving her tail when Bluestar calls out, "And watch out for Tigerclaw! He's giving Dustpaw, Bristlepaw and Sandpaw their assessment today!"
Early morning sunlight streamed down from the left eye of the Mother down onto the forest floor as Blazepaw roamed through the undergrowth. She smiles as she feels at ease in this environment now. Making a lean strong shape, she moved silently through the trees, all her senses alert for the scent trail that would end in a swift kill. She passes Mistfall, Willowheart, Darkstripe and Robinwing.
"We're going to be checking the WindClan border...Bluestar has been worrying about why WindClan hasn't been marking their borders," Mistfall explained as she led the other three towards Four Trees.
"Whitestorm said there's apparently been ShadowClan spells on their borders," Darkstripe mutters and Robinwing growls.
"Those two are probably teaming up.." but Willowheart shakes her head.
"There's no way those two Clans would team up,"she meows, "Not with the bad blood between them after so many battles..and it looks like Timberstar is still wanting to attack them..we'll find out the truth when we get there,"
Blazepaw watches them before she shakes her head and focuses on the task. Heading towards the stream that she crossed on her first trek through ThunderClan hunting grounds, she watched it as it gurgled and spattered. The water runs downhill over the smooth, round pebbles. Blazepaw paused briefly to lap at the cold, clear water.
She looks at her was soot covering her face, making streaks in the reddish brown fur. Hanging around her neck was a bandana made out of a rabbit from WindClan (a gift from Bluestar). Her fur was short but still messy, nothing like when she was in the Settlement. She smiled before she then lifted her head and tested the air for any scent of prey.
Nose scrunching up at the heavy smell of fox, Blazepaw recognizes the sour scent from her first night out into the forest. Bluestar had taught her it was fox-scent, but apart from the glimpse of the fox's tail she had caught on that first night, Blazepaw had still never seen one properly. Even though the scent was stale, Blazepaw struggled to screen it out and concentrate on prey-scent, but finally her green eyes homed in onto a water vole, darting back and forth along the bank as it gathered grass stalks.
Mouth watering in anticipation, Blazepaw shakes her head. Her last meal was last night and as soon as she woke up she was doing marches for Speckletail but she dared not hunt for herself until the Clan had been fed. The words, "The Clan must be fed first" has been told to her by everyone and even now it echoes in her head.
Dropping into a crouch, Blazepaw begins to stalk the little creature. Her reddish brown with flecks of white belly fur brushed against the damp grass as she crept forward. Her green eyes never leave her prey.
"Almost there. Another moment and I would be near enough to spring,"
Suddenly there was a loud rustle in the ferns behind her. The water vole's ears twitched and it disappeared down a hole in the bank.
"Fuck!" Blazepaw hisses as she stands up. It felt good to cuss especially at whatever ruined her first good chance of catching prey.
She hears laughter and growls "Goosefeather if that was you.."
Besides getting used to her new life she had to make sure to be really careful in talking to the ghost. Unlike in the Settlement she couldn't just let the other house cats just think she was a weird cat who talks in thin air. Luckily there were only two ghosts in the ThunderClan.
Poppydawn who was the great grandmother of Bristlepaw and Graypaw. She mostly kept around Bristlepaw because she blamed the silver tabby for her death, During Leafbare she had caught Greencough and might have survived if Darkstripe and Bristlepaw brought back prey. But instead the two broke the Code and ate the prey that they caught that could have given her strength to fight the illness. Now she watches over him to make sure he never breaks the Code again.
Goosefeather on the other hand likes to follow her and Bluestar around. It took all her willpower to not react when he just keeps staring at her during training.
Sniffing the air, she jolted when she smelled the scent of the living. It was a cat but she realized with how heavy the smell of fox in the air, even though it was stale, she couldn't identify which Clan it belonged to. Eyes narrow she begins to double back in a wide circle, rears prick up, seeking any movement. The undergrowth results again, louder now, off to one side. Edging closer, Blazepaw could see the ferns moving but the fronds still hid the enemy from view.
The sharp cracking of a twig snapping echoed in her ear fur, "From the noise they're making, they must be big" Blazepaw thought as she prepared her for a fierce battle.
Leaping for the trunk of an ash, she climbed swiftly and silently up to an overhanging branch. Below her the invisible Warrior came closer and closer. Blazepaw holds her breath, judging her moment as the ferns pushed aside and a large brownish shape emerges.
Claws unsheathed, she launched herself at the enemy and landed squarely on a set of muscular broad shoulders. Digging hard, gripping with thorn-sharp claws, she was ready to deal out with a powerful warning bite when the body below him shot straight up before rolling over.
Blazepaw grunts in pain as she is squashed and flattened beneath the heavy body. She stills when she feels sharp claws on her shoulders and looks up to see the amber eyes of Tigerclaw.
"Toy!" he growls, almost sounding like a roar, "What in the names of the Gods were you doing attacking me?!"
"T-thought you were an enemy Warrior.." Blazepaw mutters, keeping an eye on the very long claws, "Shit...how are they so long?"
"You should know my scent by now, Toy. Unless your senses are still dull even after two Moons staying with us," Tigerclaw sneers but gets off of her. Blazepaw sighs and rose to her feet, "The scent of fox was blocking the Clan scent," she grumbles, giving herself a shake, which rippled all the way along her body to the end of her tail, "And don't say anything about my sense being dull! You almost ripped me to shreds! You didn't recognize my scent either!"
Tigerclaw grunts, ignoring her as he twisted his head to lick at his shoulders. Blazepaw looks more at him, this was the closest she ever was to the large Warrior. He had thick fur, dark brown but the belly fur being a paler brown. She sees that he has many scars from many battles with a long scar across the bridge of his nose. Like most ThunderClan cats with long fur he had leaves, oak leaves braided in his fur. Wrapped around his right front leg was a golden bracelet that too had seen many battles.
His amber eyes narrow when he noticed her staring and Blazepaw quickly turns away, "Sorry..what was I suppose to think, with you creeping up on me like that?"
"Creeping up!" Blazepaw couldn't help but laugh at the indignation that was in his voice, "That was my best stealth crouch,"
"Stealth?" Blazepaw purrs, "You sounded worse than Graypaw and he stalks like a lopsided badger!"
Tigerclaw stares at her and he chuckles, "He does doesn't he? Lionheart has been complaining on how no matter how hard he tries, Graypaw keeps stumbling into stuff," he shakes his head, "Anyway aren't you supposed to be hunting," he glares at Blazepaw in suspicion.
Blazepaw growls, "I was just doing fine till you came along!" she snapped, good mood gone. "I was about to catch a vole when your noisy trampling frightened it off!"
Tigerclaw winced at that. After a few quarter-moons, it was given that Blazepaw was a good hunter. She in fact had a rivalry with Sandpaw and had never missed a prey since she finally got used to using her long legs.
"You be fine," he grunts unapologetic, "It's a warm day, there should be quite a few about"
"True," Blazepaw rolls her eyes, "But I will still have to catch them. I'm going to be out here way past sunhigh maybe even until sunset,"
"What?" he sneers, "Is it too hard for the little Toy? Want to go back to your Twolegs?"
"Ok that's it!" Blazepaw snaps and stands up. She stalked over him and glares, "What do you have against me?! I have done nothing wrong to you, heck this is the first time you're talking to me!"
"What's wrong?" Tigerclaw meows, "What's wrong is that as soon as Leafbare comes you are going to run back to the Settlement once Eiraus comes with her tears of sorrow. All you will do is eat up all our food and then run when it gets too hard! It happen before and it will happen again,"
Blazepaw growls, "Well I'm different. I'm going to stay! I belong here just because I wasn't raised in the Nursery.." she then yelps when Tigerclaw lunges and pins her down, "Get the fuck off of me!"
"Shut up," he growls, looking around, "Don't you smell that?"
Blazepaw stopped struggling and sniffed the air. The fox scent from earlier smelled stronger than before. Shivering her head, her eyes widened when she catched the sight of the low body, glinting red in the dappled sunlight. Its tail was heavily furred and it had a long, narrow snout.
"That's a fox?" Blazepaw whispered in wonder, "It..its snout is so long.."
"Yeah," Tigerclaw gets off of her, "Never trust a fox. Looks like a dog but behaves like a cat..there's a legend that foxes are descendants of a RiverClan Warrior named Splashcloud who was forced to mate with a dog by Afonal when her leader and mate Molestar would not sacrifice to the river that he gifted to RiverClan..." Tigerclaw shakes his head, "We need to warn Bluestar about this," Blazepaw looks to Tigerclaw in confusion, making the dark brown tabby sigh "Foxes are bad when it comes to killing young kits..Bluestar will probably send a patrol to scare it off, put the Monarchs' minds at rest,"
The fox had not noticed and they watched it continue along the stream. Blazepaw shakes her head, "Anyway I'm going back hunting.."
Tigerclaw grunts but doesn't stop her heading in another direction.
Tigerclaw, to Blazepaw's displeasure, was right. Hunting was good because of the warm weather. Blazepaw had collected a mouse and a thrush, quickly taking their lives and kicking dirt over the prey, so that it would be safe from predators. She looks around, knowing there were many hungry mouths waiting back at camp.
Suddenly a squirrel broke cover.
Blazepaw burst into action, pelting at full stretch over the springy woodland floor. "Fuck!" she curses as she slides to a halt, watching the squirrel scampered upward into a birch. Growling in disappointment, she jumps as a car runs by. Panting a bit, with fur rising up a bit she looks to see the Thunderpath before her. She shakes her head as the acrid stench hits her nose and mouth.
"Didn't realize I've come so far," Blazepaw mews to herself as she edged forward to peer out of the forest at the great, dark path. It was the first time she has been here alone. A trail of the cars growl along the hard surface as they drove straight ahead.
Blazepaw giggles a bit, "And the Clan cats think these are monsters,"
"Well that's because many cats have died from them," Goosefeather said as he suddenly appeared beside her. Blazepaw squeaks and turns to him, glaring at the speckled gray tom. He glares back at her with his blue eyes, "You better be careful, Bluestar would want you near the Thunderpath at all.."
Blazepaw twitched her ear, but took a step out of the cover of the forest. She grimace at the feel of oily grass under her paw and more of it that lay between the trees and the Thunderpath. She crept slowly out onto it but then shrank back as a car hurled past.
"Blaze! Get your damn ass back here! What in the name of the Gods are you doing!" Goosefeather rages.
Blazepaw ignored him and didn't reply. After waiting till there were no more cars in sight, she edged forward again right to the edge of the Thunderpath. Cautiously, she reached out a paw to touch it. It felt warm, almost sticky, heated by the Left Eye.
Blazepaw, stills, as the feeling of dread fills her. The fur on her spine prickles as she looks up, staring across the road. Staring at her was a large shadow. It was shaped like a cat but there were no features. Blazepaw trembles as the being stares, sniffing the air but other than the smell of great gray path there was also the scent of death.
The shadow was staring at her, Blazepaw was sure of it.
"Blazepaw!" Goosefeather's voice made Blazepaw jump, just as a huge car, taller than a tree, roared past her nose. The wind almost toppled her over. Blinking her eyes, she stares back at the road to see the Shadow gone..shivering and trembling Blazepaw turned and ran as fast as she could back into the safety of the forest.
"You stupid fucking idiot!" Goosefeather spat wrapping his tail around her while looking over her. His whispers trembled with fear and anger, "What were you thinking?! Wait, let me guess you weren't!"
Blazepaw glares, but her whiskers were trembling too, "I was just wondering what the Thunderpath felt like," she mutters but she turns her head back towards the path..to where she saw the shadow.
"Come on," Goosefeather hiss looking at where she was looking his blue eyes narrow, "Let's get you out of here,"
Blazepaw followed Goosefeather as they leaped away back into the forest, once they were a safe distance from the Thunderpath, Blazepaw stopped to catch his breath. Sitting down she began to lick her ruffled fur, "What was that," she asked between licks, "It..it felt.."
"It doesn't matter," Goosefeather meowed, "Its gone, you don't have to worry about it" He looked up at the Left Eye, "You better get a move on if you want to be finished before the Left Eye sets," he then fades before Blazepaw could say anything, leaving her alone in the forest. She sighs and before springing into the undergrowth to hopefully catch a lot of prey to bring back to camp..but the shadow was still on her mind..
"Why...why did it feel a lot like the..Abyss?"
