Mama Yellowfang is here! I headcanon her voice to sound like Eda fro the owl house! I love Yellowfang so much..I can't wait to do her justice.
Leave a comment please! I love them!
Retracing her steps, heading back to the stream, Blazepaw couldn't get the shadow out of her head. No matter what Goosefeather said she knew she felt that feeling before. All her kin had felt that feeling before in a specific spot in the Settlement. She even remembers Princess complaining about how Claw tried to force her to that spot that all of Crystal's Kin know not to go to..even Sock and Ruby from the last time she saw them don't go to that place.
Blazepaw shakes her head, trying to focus back on her task for hunting for the Clan. She looked at the gurgling stream and could feel her spine tremble a bit.
"Great, why is my mind focusing on all the horrible things now," she whispers to herself. Bluestar had warned her away from any moving water, that only ShadowClan and RiverClan were brave enough (or stupid as Robinwing muttered once) to not only fight but swim in the water. The Clans had a belief that the moving water will keep the spirit ever moving, making Gwynata unable to find them to bring them to Silverpelt. To never know peace.
"Only those who have committed terrible crimes in their life are thrown into the water. They don't deserve a burial,"
Blazepaw shivers thinking on how many spirits that might be stuck to the river if what Bluestar said was true. She thinks back to the molly she saw sitting on the Sunningrocks and wonders if she was thrown into the river.
"He-help me.."
Blazepaw's ear twitches at the voice when she catches the voice.. Stopping, she listens carefully to the voice but instead of hearing it, she hears a very familiar sound that shouldn't be this far from camp, "Wait...why do I hear kit-" Blazepaw couldn't finish her sentence as a snarling ball of fur burst from the bushes behind her. Screeching in alarm as she was slammed into the ground, Blazepaw hisses and instinctively swipes down on the shoulder but winces in pain when all she got was her claws getting stuck in the matted fur.
Two heavy paws, claws covered in Golden Battle claws that have seen many battles, clamp down on her shoulders. Blazepaw looks up trembling a bit in fear, blood pounding in her ears as she stares at her opponent.
What she saw would give her nightmares for a few Quarter-Moons. The molly definitely had Persian blood in her, for she had a broad flatten face and a snub nose covered in scars. Her ears were torn but one ear had a claw earring hanging from it. Her long dark gray fur was matted, having a few marigold flowers braided into it. Her orange eyes blaze in anger as she growls showing blackened yellow teeth, "Ah, a puny Apprentice! Easy prey for Yellowfang!"
Blazepaw hisses in fury, while the molly was gloating Blazepaw could smell that she was tired, hungry and sick. A surge of fury was pooling into her belly but she waited, "Surprise is a Warrior's greatest weapon," Bluestar has told her many times.
Yellowfang chuckles as she looks to the fearful eyes of the Apprentice, "What is ThunderClan training their Apprentices these days..you aren't even attac-" she howls in pain when the little runt bites into her front leg. The gray molly, not expecting the reddish brown apprentice to actually fight back, takes a step back, shaking her front leg in pain.
It gave Blazepaw enough time to quickly stand up, shaking herself. She puffs up her short fur as much as she can in hopes of looking bigger, her long tail lashing behind her in anger, "Not such easy prey huh?"
Yellowfang chuckles before hissing, "Not bad, apprentice..but you have a long way until you defeat me! I have seasons of experience of being a Warrior before I became the Witch of ShadowClan!" she snarls before smirking, "You need to do a lot better to defeat the greatest Witch in all of the Forest!"
Blazepaw blinks at this but she stands her ground, glaring a challenge at Yellowfang, "If you're the Witch of ShadowClan why in the name of the Gods did you attack me? You are allowed to ignore the Borders,"
"Fuck! I am in so much trouble! I attacked a Witch!"
Yellowfang drew back her lip, "Who's said I am here on Witch business," a deep rumble erupted from her throat, "I will hunt, then I will leave..or maybe I'll just stay for awhile,"
Yellowfang lunges, Battle Claws extended. Blazepaw, having no choice, responded to the attack. Snarling and spitting, young and old cat were locked together. Blazepaw hisses in pain as teeth snap onto her ear, while trying her best to claw at Yellowfang. But the molly's gray fur was clumpy and matted, snagging at Blazepaw's claws and she couldn't break through to the skin.
Finally Blazepaw struck something after lashing out with a back swipe. Her paw caught the side of Yellowfang's head, sinkinging into the fur, one of her claws hit something not like fur at all. It was flesh, blood began to drip down from the wound and Yellowfang's terrible cry ripped through the forest. As if the Gods could hear it themselves.
In a single heartbeat before the Witch could recover, Blazepaw saw her chance. She throws herself forward, ground low and clamped her jaws tightly onto Yellowfang's back leg.
Almost like a mad storm, Yellowfang roared out as she whipped around to snap at Blazepaw's tail. Pain laced up Blazepaw's spine as her cracked but strong fangs connected but she ripped her tail free and lashed it back and forth in range. She chomps down harder, ignoring the horrible taste of the matted fur.
Yellowfang was able to finally pull her leg free from Blazepaw's painful grip. Crouching down ready to attack, her breath seemed to wheeze up from her foul smelling longs, blasting Blazepaw's nose. The message of desperation and weakness, and the aching void of the molly's hunger was there but in Yellowfang's eyes, there was only anger and fury flashing in the orange orbs. She lunged forward once again and Blazepaw gladly met her back fiercely in aggression. Her Battle Claws were out and ready to tear, a dark gray ball of fury but this time she was hampered by her wounded leg.
Twisting nimbly to avoid those golden claws that tried to slash at her soft underbelly, Blazepaw and Yellowfang rolled over and over. Biting and snapping until they broke apart. Blood drips down her face as Blazepaw gasps for breath. Her green eyes blaze in fury but she stills at the sight of Yellowfang was badly wounded, her back legs could barely support her body. It didn't take long for her injured leg to give way and she slumped to the ground. She curses under her breath as she tries to get up and fails.
"You fucking Toy! If I wasn't so damn hungry and tired I would have shredded you into mouse-dust!" she snarls in pain in defiance.
Blazepaw winces at those words, tail curling between her legs. Could she smell the Twolegs scent on her, even after two Moons of living in ThunderClan..
"I'm an Apprentice of Thunderclan," she snaps, snarling.
Yellowfang chuckles, "Oh did I hit a nerve little Toy? Do you really think that one day they'll forget that you are from the Settlement.." she chuckles, orange eyes glowing in mirth, "No matter how much you act like a Warrior, your pelt will mark you from the Settlement. You will be a sign of how desperate ThunderClan was to recruit a Toy,"
"ThunderClan is not desperate!" Blazepaw snarls but she stills when she hears tiny mews. Yellowfang's eyes widen and snarl when the reddish brown Apprentice turns to the bushes that the Witch had lunged out of.
"Get the fuck away!" she snarls trying to grab her attention but Blazepaw was too curious. Muscles relaxing as curiosity pricked her, she slowly walked over to the large heather bush.. Pushing her head through, Blazepaw gasps at the sight before her.
A pale ginger molly weakly hisses at her, curling her tail around two small kittens. Her amber eyes glow in protectinous. Something stirred inside Blazepaw, an unwarrior-like feeling she didn't want: pity. She tried not to dwell on this instinct- her loyalty must be to her Clan- but she couldn't shake free of it..not as she stared at the two tiny scraps that were suckling to their mother's belly. One looked like Yellowfang, with dark gray fur, but with a short stumpy tail. The other was a dark brown tortoiseshell with white patches. Blazepaw had never seen kittens these young before. Goldenflower's kits; Mistelkit, Swiftkit, Snowkit and Lynxkit were already four Moons old when she joined the Clan and Frostshine's kits had only left the Nursery after having their First Naming Ceremony at two Moons Old. These kittens were newborns, their eyes were closed and their ears were folded. They should be safely tucked into the Nursery, not in the middle of a territory that had a fox in it.
Green eyes stare at the amber eyes that stare at her with anger and fear. Blazepaw hesitated. The Code said to defend your Clan and to not hunt or trespass on another Clan's territory. These two were definitely trespassing, for what reason Blazepaw shouldn't care..but...she looks at the trembling bodies. Smelling the hunger and sickness coming from them in waves. Both of them were going to die soon if they didn't get anything to eat, and who knows how long the kittens will last, especially with a fox in the area.
"No Warrior can neglect a kit in pain or danger, no matter where they are from," Bluestar's words echo through her head, and Blazepaw narrows her green eyes in determination.
"Wait here," Blazepaw orders at last with a sigh.
The pale ginger molly seems to deflate while Yellowfang snorts. Her hackles smoothed out and her tail lost its gorse-bush stiffness, "As if me and Sunflame are going anywhere little Toy," Blazepaw hisses at her but Yellowfang ignores her, limping painfully to Sunflame. Flopping down she begins to lick at her leg wound.
Ignoring Sunflame's look of confusion, and hissing quietly in exasperation, Blazepaw heads for the tree. Padding silently through the ferns, Blazepaw opened her mouth to take in the sun warmed odor. She gags and coughs as instead of that she caught the sour reek scent of a long dead rat. Ignoring it, knowing that even though it was easy meat, not even a starving cat would eat crow-food and especially not a nursing Monarch.
She listens to the scratching of insects beneath bark, the rustles of furry things scurrying over leaves. She pauses when she finally scents a young rabbit ahead. Crouching down, she took a few steps before she could see it. Taking a deep breath, she stalked the creature but just as she was barely a mouse-length away it detected her. Unfortunately for the rabbit it was too late, as she easily caught up to the white bobtail. Holding the wriggling body fast in her paws, she quickly killed it, giving her thanks to the Gods for such a thrill chase that was successful.
Yellowfang looks up from licking Sunflames' ears as Blazepaw drops the rabbit on the ground in front of them. The ShadowClan cats' jaws drop at the sight. Yellowfang narrows her eyes at the Apprentice, "I thought you'd gone to fetch your little Warrior friends, Toy,"
Blazepaw rolls her eyes, "I will," she growls before shoving the rabbit towards them, not looking at them so they wouldn't see her embarrassment, "But I would feel bad if two young kittens died because their mother is starving,"
"Ah….th-thank you," Sunflame meowed hastily before she quickly rips open the prey and swallows it down. Yellowfang eyes Blazepaw before joining, biting her cracked and yellow teeth into the flesh of the rabbit.
Blazepaw looks at the ferns, her stomach rumbling and mouth watering. But at the same time all she could feel was dread. Her stomach churns as she takes a deep breath trying to calm her nerves, her tail flicking nervously.
"Oh Taranu, oh Taranu, oh Taranu! I am in so much trouble," Blazepaw trembles, her eyes wide, ears pin down on her head. Not only did she not bring enough prey back to the Clan, she fed two ShadowClan cats, rivals from another Clan! "But..I should be fine...there are kittens here..I..I can't chase them out..the kittens might get hurt...ThunderClan will understand.."
Blazepaw watches as Sunflame gulps down the last scraps, licking her lips, savoring every last taste. Yellowfang was purring, "Mmmm-mm," before giving a huge sigh and flopped onto her side, "First fresh kill we've had for days!" She lickes her muzzle clean, settling down to give herself a wash.
"As if one wash is going to make a difference," Blazepaw couldn't help but think, nose twitching. Both mollies were the arch-cat of stench, Yellowfang more.
Yellowfang was watching her closely, showing her stained teeth, "Much better than the muck those twolegs feed your kind," she mewed slyly. Sunflame glares at her.
"Mother, stop," she warns the gray mollie.
"What? It's true! That stuff is poison!" Yellowfang went on, "Rat shit! Only a spineless bag of fur would accept such disgusting shit.." she broke off and tensed.
Blazepaw, who was very close to biting Yellowfang again became aware of the sound of soft paw-steps and the sound of fur swishing through brambles. She soon smelled the wind brushing against their coats. Dread filled her as the scents of Willowheart, Darkstripe, Robinwing, Mistfall, Tigerclaw and Bristlepaw, Dustpaw and Sandpaw filled her scent glands. ThunderClan Warriors and Apprentices, confident enough in their own territory to not care about the noise they make.
"Tigerclaw and the other three must have joined Mistfall's patrol when they came back from WindClan," Blazepaw thinks to herself as guilt pools in her stomach. She takes a deep breath, hoping that they would understand why she fed them. "Hopefully Mistfall and Willowheart will understand..I know Robinwing will think this is proof that I should had never joined,"
Mind reeling, fearing what might happen to her, she hisses as Yellowfang growls in defiance, struggling to her feet, "Oh no you don't," Blazepaw growls, taking a step towards the dark gray molly.
Yellowfang ignores her, trying to limp closer to Sunflame, possibly to grab one of the kits, but she winces in pain, "Damn it," she mutters, "This leg stiffened up while I've been resting,"
Now it was too late for her to run, as like silent shadows, the ThunderClan patrol had encircled the three cats. Blazepaw gulps at the glares that Robinwing, Bristlepaw and Dustpaw were giving her but she ignores them. Yellowfang hisses, eyeing their lean and hard mussel as she stood in front of Sunflame even with a limp leg. Blazepaw grains inwardly at this, even she could scent Yellowfang's fear scent but instead of cowering in submission, the scruffy Witch was glaring in defiance.
Robinwing was about to open her mouth, but Mistfall swipes her tail at her to be quiet, her green eyes staring at Blazepaw, "I hope you have a good explanation Blazepaw for why Yellowfang is here with a broken leg along with Sunflame,"
Blazepaw feels their eyes burning on her pelt and takes a deep breath, "I was hunting here, doing my..task that Bluestar told me to do..when I heard something.." Blazepaw decided not to say anything about the voice that called out for help, "I stop to listen for it in case it was prey when Yellowfang came out and attack," she looks up in a glare when Robinwing scoffs, "When I recognized her as the Witch of ShadowClan, I asked why she attacked me since I know that Witches and Warlocks are allowed to ignore Clan Borders. She then told me that she wasn't on Clan business..saying that she will hunt and leave or even stay before she attack me..I..got her to stop after wounding her leg..and then found Sunflame hiding in the heather with two kits,"
"Kits?!" Willowheart meows in shock before she walks over. Her blue eyes looked over to the suckling babies and grew concern, "Sunflame why aren;t you in ShadowClan..these kits should be in a Nursery,"
"No..no kits are..safe in ShadowClan.." Sunflame mutters softly, "Not as long as Timberstar is Leader," she curls her tail over the kits as if to protect them.
Willowheart's eyes glow in concern and she turns to Mistfall, "These kits need to be brought back to Camp. All of them are weak and hungry," they ignored Yellowfang's hiss, "Especially since there is a fox in the area,"
Mistfall nods her head, "Yellowfang, what are you doing so far into ThunderClan territory?"
Yellowfang puffs up her fur, "I left ShadowClan," Blazepaw blinks at the gasps of horror that came from the group, "I will not heal the ShadowClan that Timberstar is leading.."
Blazepaw listened astonished, she was confused on the reaction that the others have of Yellowfang leaving ShadowClan. While it probably didn't happen, wouldn't cats be allowed to leave? Tigerclaw, and probably many others thought she would leave once Leaf-Bare hits.
"Yellowfang," Robinwing sneers, "It looks like you have fallen on hard times if you can be beaten by a toy," she said mockling before glaring at Blazepaw, "And of course the Toy couldn't even do the right thing properly and chase these Shadows out of the territory! And wasting prey on them, that rabbit could had fed Violetspring! She should be punished," Robinwing goes silent when Mistfall's tail hit her mouth, the large gray molly glaring at the brown and ginger molly.
"That's enough Robinwing, Blazepaw is Bluestar's Apprentice," Misfall meows, "It will be up to Bluestar, not you and your distaste of outsiders," Mistfall then purrs calmly, "All the Clans speak highly of Yellowfang so there must be a good damn reason why she left her Clan. It may have to do with what we saw in WindClan..Bluestar will know what to do," Mistfall ignores Robinwing's huff, "Can both of you walk?" she asked Yellowfang, "Or do you need help?"
"I've still got three good legs, damn it! I don't need your fucking help!" the grizzled molly snas before she gently limps over to Sunflame. Blazepaw could see that her orange eyes were glazed with pain, but the old molly was determined to not show any weakness. Blazepaw couldn't help but feel respect for the Witch. "Hopefully..one day I can do that.." she thinks to herself as she watches Yellowfang gently grab the tortoiseshell kit by the scruff.
While the other Warriors took up positions on either side of Yellowfang and Sunflame, Blazepaw walked up to Mistfall, "Can I go get the pieces of prey I caught earlier?"
Mistfall looks at her and nods, "Of course, we don't want to waste any prey, even if it is New-Leaf," she turns to Darkstripe, "Can you go with Blazepaw? I don't want her running into the fox,"
Darkstripe nods his head before walking towards Blazepaw. Falling in step together, Blazepaw begins to lead towards where she left her prey buried.
"Why..why are the others so shocked that Yellowfang left Shadowclan?" Blazepaw asked which made the gray tabby blink.
He then chuckles, his tufted ears, which he shared with Whitestorm and Frostshine, twitches, "I keep forgetting that you were born outside the Clans, you been taking to training like a River to water,"
"Really.." Blazepaw blinks at this, "I mean..the others really make sure I don't forget that I use to be a Toy," she mutters looking down at the grass, "They won't let me forget this in a hurry,"
"Don't let it bother you," Darkstripe meowed, "It's unfair but the Clan has it stuck in their heads that Toys are corrupted by the Twolegs. That the corruption runs deep in the Toys' blood making them fat, lazy, spoiled, dumb cats that can't do anything without their Twolegs. Even Fuzzybush and Willowheart are treated the same and Fuzzybush was found abandoned as a newborn and Willowheart a Moon after she was kicked out of the Settlement,"
Blazepaw grumbles, "Well that's stupid..not all House cats are like that..my Papa wasn't. He was an adventurer..he would explore all over the Settlement and even outside of it..it's how he met my father.. Papa told me that my father ate a poisoned rat and he dragged him to his Housefolk..he told me just because we are House cats doesn't mean we dream of something else.." she remembers telling her papa about her dreams..about her dreams of being in the forest, "I wonder if he knew..I wonder if that is why he went searching for father.."
"Your papa sounds like a very smart cat..it's what I tell Bristlepaw all the time." Darkstripe meows, "Lots of cats look at him and Graypaw for the Toy blood that they inherited from Willowheart, and even more when it took Graypaw to get over the sickness that hit him during Leaf-Bare.."
"Is..is that why they hate me?" Blazepaw meows thinking about the glares that both Bristlepaw, Dustpaw and Graypaw gave her..Bristlepaw even more..
Darkstripe nods his head leaping over a log, "You joining the Clan just brought a fresh reminder to the Clan that they have Toy blood in them. Dustpaw has it better because Robinwing used to be a rogue and Fuzzybush was brought into the Clan almost right after birth but he gets looks for having to put his training on hold because of the accident. Bristlepaw has a easier time especially since he's going to become a Warrior tonight," Darkstripe puffs out his chest in pride, "But he still gets looks for how long it took Graypaw to start his training," he turns to Blazepaw, his yellow eyes glowing softly as the sun begins to go down, "That's why you have to prove it to them Blazepaw. You will have to work harder, hunt harder, fight harder to prove to the Clan that you belong. Its unfair but the rewards will be great..soon they will realize that themselves..that you belong in this Clan like any other cat,"
"You..you really think so?" Blazepaw mews as she scrambles over the log, "Even..after I broke the Code?"
Darkstripe snorts, "You didn't break the code..maybe you shouldn't have fought against Yellowfang but she was the one to attack you first. And you gave her and Sunflame prey but the Code said that Queens need to be fed first and Sunflame definitely needed it if her kittens were to survive..another part of the Code is to help kits no matter where they are from which you did.." his yellow eyes grew daze, "And after what we saw in WindClan..Yellowfang has every right to leave ShadowClan.." he shakes his head, "To answer your first question Witches and Warlocks are the the voices of the Gods. While Leaders are blessed by them so that their leaderships are longer, the Witches and Warlocks are the ones to speak to the messengers..our ancestors..to guide us to do what is right..for a Witch or Warlock to leave their Clan..that's an omen..a bad omen,"
Blazepaw blinks at this as Darkstripe goes silent, the wind brushing against her fur. She shivers, it was as if the very forest agrees with the words that Darkstripe spoke.
Kittens! Look! An actual change! I know right now it seems that I'm just following the books with firepaw as a female called Blazepaw but I'm definitely changing it. I hope you all enjoy! Leave a comment please!
