The day after seeing Shoko's evil spirit, Holly called the school to inform them that her daughter isn't feeling well and will have to take a few days off as well as informing her father Joseph of what happened after she called him. Shoko was so scared that she hid herself in her room. Even when Holly made something for her, she wouldn't come out, so the food would be left outside her room for her to get. Surprisingly enough, the spirit hasn't really done anything besides healing minor cuts with its vines, possibly as a way to apologize for scaring its host and her mother.

The next day Holly, wearing a beige jacket over a green collared shirt and a brown skirt, went to the airport at Shoko's insistence so she could wait for her father, who was actually hard to miss. Appearance-wise, he resembled Jotaro with his height and build with the exception of a white beard and hair. He's also wearing a beige coat over a black turtleneck with matching slacks, a red pendant, white gloves, and a brown hat.

"Papa!" called Holly. "Over here, Papa! Papa!"

"Holly!" Joseph responded before pushing a random guy aside so he could embrace his daughter.

"Thank you for coming," said Holly.

"Hey, you're my one and only daughter. If you're ever in trouble, just give me a day and I'll cross the globe!"

"And Mom?"

"She didn't like me leaving. But I told her it was official Joestar Corporation business and that I had to go" Joseph laughed.

"Thanks Papa."

As she said that, Holly kept hugging her father.

"Holly" Joseph called out. "Hey Holly, the greeting's over, let go of me already!"

"No," argued Holly. "It's been forever since you held me."

"Look at yourself. You're a 45-year-old woman, now let go."

"Hey, don't remind me! I'm gonna tickle you!"

And she proceeds to do just that despite Joseph's protest and panicked yelling. Then the old giant noticed some people staring at him and Holly.

"Hey, what are you clowns staring at?!" he yelled.

As the onlookers walk away to carry out their businesses, Holly crouches down to pick up her father's bag.

"By the way Holly, about Jotaro," Joseph started, causing Holly to flinch. "You sure he said it was an evil spirit?"

Holly was distraught being reminded of that.

"Oh, my poor babies!" she cried. "Yes, the police said they couldn't see it, but Shoko and I could. It's like he had a third arm that wasn't his. And then he reached out and grabbed the gun!"

"And aside from Jotaro and Shoko being possessed, nothing has happened to you?"

"I feel totally fine, but what do I do about Jotaro? He says he won't leave his cell until he finds the cause of all this! What am I gonna do, Papa?"

"There, there, my darling daughter" Joseph reassured. "You've got Joseph Joestar with you now, so there's no need to worry."

Then as Joseph snapped his fingers, a tall dark-skinned man who happened to be nearby stood up. All three of them made their way out of the airport.

"Now let's go see my grandson, Jotaro."

Back at home and after calming herself down a little, Shoko was doing housework to pass the time while listening to Seiko Matsuda's "Aoi Sangoshou" on the radio. Since she wasn't going to school today, she opted for a simple pink dress with the white apron with orange frills her mother wears for chores. While cleaning the house, she sees her "evil spirit" helping out around the house by picking things up or grabbing cleaning appliances with its vines. The youngest child thinks back on how she convinced her mom to go to the airport.

"Shoko," said Holly. "Are you sure you want to stay home?"

"Don't worry Mom, I can keep the house" replied Shoko.

"Really? Because I can always tell Papa to grab a taxi and meet us at home."

"No really, it's fine. Besides, I'm not sure how 'she'll' react to a lot of people, let alone my grandfather from another country."

"Don't worry Shoko, your grandpa has seen stranger things in his life" Holly reminisces on her time with her father before moving to Japan. "You might even say they're 'bizarre!'"

She also wanted to reassure her daughter that Joseph Joestar has seen many peculiar things in his life and that the spirit itself was nothing he couldn't handle.

"Well then," Holly said. "I'll pick him up, and then we'll convince Jotaro to come back home. You take care now."

Then the American mother gave Shoko a goodbye kiss on her cheek before going off to the airport.

I wonder how Big Bro will react to seeing Grandpa Joseph? How's Grandpa going to convince him to leave his cell? Will Big Bro even accept his help? I just hope he can get him out of there…

Just then, she's pulled from her thoughts when she hears her evil spirit opening the front door while putting away the broom 'she' was using to sweep the yard.

"W-Wait, what are you doing!? Come back!"

Panicked, Shoko ran after the apparition before it can unintentionally scare someone since they'll only see the door randomly opening by itself. By the time she got to the door, it was too late and now she was dreading who might be at the door.

"Oh, that must be Shoko's Stand" an older man's voice could be heard but Shoko didn't know who it was, so she was nervous. "I wasn't expecting her to get the door for us. Such a sweet girl!"

Then she heard her mother's voice, sounding like her usually cheerful self.

"Shoko, I'm home. And I brought company!"

Hesitantly, Shoko looks through the open door to see two tall men she hasn't seen before as well as her own mother, who ran to give her a hug. One of the men was her grandfather Joseph, the other was a dark-skinned man she's never seen before. He had an orange overcoat over a white robe, a matching white headband, a blue scarf, golden bangles around both his wrists, and earrings that look like a necklace. He also had to wavy scars running down his face and his hair in a unique style and tied in a low ponytail.

"Shoko, this is your grandfather, Joseph Joestar" Holly said. Then she points to the darker skinned man.

"And this is Mohammed Avdol. He's a friend your grandfather met in Egypt a few years ago."

Avdol then spoke up.

"I apologize for the sudden introduction, Miss Shoko. I'm sure these past few days have been quite stressful for you"

"H-Hello…" Shoko nervously greeted.

"My, aren't you polite, unlike your brother. And look how big you've gotten! It's been 10 years, and already you're twice the beauty your mother was at that age!" Joseph complimented.

"Oh, Papa!" Holly pouted.

Shoko was embarrassed by the compliment, but a little happy, too.

"Oh, speaking of which…" Holly went to the side of the front and grabbed someone's arm. "Shoko, don't get too excited, but I got a little surprise for you!"

And then she dragged that someone who happened to be none other than Jotaro!

"Ta-da!"

"Big Bro!" Shoko exclaimed as she rushes to hug him. "Don't scare us like that! I thought you were gonna stay in jail forever!"

"Yeah, yeah" Jotaro said while patting his sister's head, smiling to himself.

He was mildly shocked when he saw Shoko's evil spirit, or Stand as Joseph and Avdol called them, observing the new arrivals including him as he went along with everyone else into the house. Once inside, Holly and her daughter prepared some tea and rice crackers.

"Oh, I'm so glad Jotaro finally left that nasty old cell, aren't you Shoko?" Holly said as she clung to her oldest. Shoko, in turn, nodded in agreement while Jotaro wasn't exactly thrilled to be smothered by their mother.

"Why are you such an annoying bitch…" he mumbled.

"Okay~!" Holly cheered. "I don't know."

Yep, definitely Jotaro. Shoko thought.

Joseph, however, was not happy about his daughter being addressed in such an insulting way by her son.

"Hey, what kind of language is that to address your own mother?!" he yelled. "And stop smiling at the boy, Holly, you'll only encourage him!"

"Okay~!"

"So, how exactly did Jotaro get out of jail anyway?" Shoko wanted to ask.

Realizing Shoko wasn't there to see Jotaro break out of his jailcell, Holly told her daughter everything that went down.

"Well, after leaving the airport, Mr. Avdol, Papa, and I went straight to the prison instead of picking you up because Papa was worried about how Jotaro's Stand would react to yours and didn't want you to get hurt. I was worried, too, because I didn't know what Stands were and reluctantly agreed to let you stay home. I'm sorry, Shoko!"

Holly then squeezed Shoko in a tight embrace before continuing.

"When we arrived, Jotaro's evil spirit-oops, I mean Stand-brought over more stuff to his cell. Papa tried to convince Jotaro to leave his cell despite the cops warning him to do so from a safe distance, but he refused and even took a pinky from his prosthetic left hand to prove why he shouldn't let him out."

"A prosthetic left hand?" Shoko inadvertently interrupted.

"Yep" confirmed Joseph as he took off his glove to show her. "Pretty cool, right?"

Shoko was amazed and concerned by it as he was missing a pinky from the mechanical hand. Holly tried to continue the story to draw Shoko's attention.

"When that didn't work, he had Mr. Avdol drive him out using his Stand Magician's Red."

Avdol brought his Stand, which had the red body of a man but the head of a bird, to show Shoko. The younger Kujo was fascinated by its appearance. As Holly continued, she almost looked a little scared.

"Then, it started attacking by binding Jotaro's arms and legs with fire and stuck him to the wall!"

"What!? Fire!?" panicked Shoko.

"Yes, but rest assured I can manipulate the shape, size, directions, and even the temperature of Magician's Red's flames. So, no serious harm was done to your brother" Avdol explained. Shoko, still worried, looks to her brother but didn't say anything else and decided to listen until the end.

"Then Jotaro's Stand appeared and grabbed Mr. Avdol's Stand by the throat, which seemed to affect him as well since he had a hand mark on his throat, too."

Jotaro decided to bring out his Stand, and it was intimidating to say the least for Shoko as it curiously stared at her with the same-colored eyes as his. The barbarian-like creature was purple with gold wavy lines around its arms and legs and appeared to be around Jotaro's height and build. It had had long, black unkempt hair with a gold headband in place, matching shoulder guards, a white loincloth, an orange scarf around its neck, dark fingerless gloves and boots, and gray elbow- and knee-guards. The gloves had golden studs on the back and wristbands holding them in place.

"But the flames changed into a rope and bound Jotaro and pulled him to the bars. Jotaro kicked back a coffee table his Stand brought to his cell which slammed into the toilet and completely broke it, which made water come out and extinguish the flames and free him from the restraints. Then his Stand used its bare hands to bend the bars and tear one in half to stab Mr. Avdol, only for him to walk away and withdraw his Stand because he already got Jotaro out of his cell!" Holly finished as she caught her breath at the end. Shoko was curious about one thing.

"So, Avdol, right? I was wondering, if my brother's evil spir- uh, Stand didn't stop halfway, what would've happened?"

"Well as I've mentioned to your brother, Magician's Red would have melted the steel rod into thin air before even reaching me" he explained.

Shoko hummed in acknowledgment at that, then turned to ask her brother if he had any serious burns.

"Geez, you're such a pain sometimes. It's nothing serious, alright?" Jotaro insisted before turning his attention to Avdol. "And as for you, I don't know who you think you are, but you are one arrogant bastard."

Then, he speaks to his grandfather.

"Tell me just one thing, Grandpa. How do you know all this? About my evil spirit, or rather, my Stand? I still don't get it."

Holy and Shoko looked at Jotaro, then at Joseph.

"Of course, that's why I came all the way from New York after all" the older man responded.

"But in order to make things clear, we'll need to take things one step at a time. This has to do with the Joestar family."

Then he reached into his coat pocket, taking out several photos of a boat, a long rectangular box covered in barnacles, the same box opened and revealing the interior compartment, and gold letters that spell "DIO."

"What is this?" Jotaro asked.

"D… I… O..." Shoko spelled out. "Dio?"

Joseph explained further.

"4 years ago, a coffin was pulled up from the Atlantic off the coast of Africa. And I recovered this thick iron coffin which was lost for a century. I've already determined that it was on the passenger ship where my grandfather Jonathan Joestar, your great-great grandfather, died. When they found the box, it was empty, but I know what was in it! Avdol and I are currently chasing him as we speak!"

"Wait, 'him?'" Shoko asked.

"Hang on…" Jotaro said. "You make it sound like a person was in there. Why would you call something that's been at the bottom of the ocean for 100 years 'him?'"

"Because he is evil incarnate!" answered Joseph. "His name is Dio, awakened after a century of slumber! And it OUR destiny is to fight this man!"

At his Jotaro sighed and turned away, prompting an angry response from his grandfather.

"Hey, are you even listening?! The face you're making looks like you're saying this has nothing to do with you!"

"This is the face I make when I hear something that's so stupid I find it hard to believe" Jotaro scoffed. "I mean come on, this Dio guy-who died 100 years ago-came back from the dead after being at the bottom of the ocean… you really expect me to believe that?"

"He does have a point" Shoko added. "It does sound far-fetched even if it were true."

"Shoko!" Holly called out.

"Hm, that may be, but is it not as believable as the evil spirits you and I have?" Avdol countered.

Shoko and Holly thought about it while Jotaro glared at him in annoyance.

"Hmph!" Joseph huffed. "Well, it doesn't matter. Sooner or later, you'll have no choice but to believe us. Once you hear how I know of Dio-and why I have to pursue him! Avdol!"

Joseph laid out his hand, with Avdol taking that as a sign to bring him what looks like a polaroid camera. The Kujos looked in confusion.

"I'll show you that it turns out that I, too, have gained my own evil spirit-as you called a Stand-about a year ago!"

The Kujos were surprised to hear this.

"What'd you say, Old Man?!" Jotaro questioned.

"Papa?!" Holly exclaimed.

"Allow me to show you how my Stand works!" After saying that, purple vines surround Joseph's hand. Then, as the camera was placed on the table, he karate-chopped it and a photo came out. "Did you see that? The thorns out of my hand? That is my Stand! It can reveal faraway visions and print them on film, though I have to smash a 3,000-yen camera every time I use it! However, the vision that will soon appear on this photo-Jotaro, Shoko-will define your destiny!"

"What do you mean?" Jotaro asked.

"Jotaro, Holly, Shoko, have either of you taken a close look at the back of your necks?"

"The back of our necks?" Shoko wondered.

"The hell are you talking about?" Jotaro asked.

Joseph went on. "It's not a common spot most of us pay attention to, but on the back of my neck is a birthmark shaped like a star." He pulled back the collar of his shirt to reveal the said birthmark. Then Jotaro does the same with his jacket while Holly and Shoko pull their hair to the side to reveal the very same mark. Jotaro gets tense.

"Yeah, so what does this all mean?!"

"I asked my mother, and she told me that my father had one as well. It seems that those of the Joestar bloodline will have this star."

"Grandpa…" Shoko said. "What exactly is that photo gonna show?"

"The star we've never noticed until now is our destiny!"

"Papa!" Holly shouted.

"Stop screwing around…" Jotaro argued. "And show us the damn photo already!"

Jotaro grabbed the picture from his grandfather to reveal a tall muscular man with golden hair. He's topless, wearing orange pants with dangling straps over a dark undergarment, posing in a dark background. Atop his neck appears to be a star-shaped birthmark!

"DIO!" Joseph yelled. "My spirit photography always shows him! And look at the back of his neck! This son of a bitch killed my grandfather, Jonathan Joestar, and has taken over his body!"

Jotaro, Holly, and Shoko are shocked by this information, but Joseph continued his story.

"My Granny Erina told me about how my grandfather died when I was younger. Dio must have survived by taking his body, and I know one thing's for sure: right now, he's hiding somewhere in this world plotting his next move! It's been 4 years since his revival and our abilities have only since come upon us! I believe that Dio is the main cause behind all this!"

"Mainstream society would have called our abilities 'psychic.'" Avdol explained. "I've had my Stand since birth, but you and your grandfather's abilities are tethered to Dio's-meaning Jonathan's-body by an invisible line. It can be said that Dio's presence has awakened your dormant powers."

"Avdol, can you tell where he is from the photo?"

"I'm afraid not. The background is barely visible in the darkness."

Suddenly, Shoko stood up.

"Sh-Shoko?" Holly called.

"I-I'm sorry, it's just…" she stuttered. "I... I need to get some fresh air!"

Then she ran outside.

"Oh, Shoko…" Holly lamented.

"Good grief" mumbled Jotaro as he walked after her.

Holly, meanwhile, is somewhat distraught by her family's past and how Shoko reacted. Joseph sees this and apologizes for bringing this burden on her and her children. Meanwhile out in the yard, Shoko is looking at her and her Stand's reflection in the pond. The spiritual guardian looked concerned seeing its user in such emotional disarray. Then the young girl hears footsteps coming near and turns to see Jotaro walking towards her.

"Hey" he greeted.

"Hey…"

"You feeling better?"

"Yeah, a little. It's just… a lot to process…"

"Yeah…"

"But I guess it explains the weird stuff that's been happening lately."

"Hm."

After a moment of silence, Jotaro speaks up. "You scared?"

"Y-Yeah, I guess I am… How are we supposed to take on Dio if we don't even know where he is? And what'll happen to us? To you, me, Mom? Or someone else? The guys at school, the teachers? Are we…? Will everyone be okay?"

Jotaro placed a firm hand on her shoulder, which seems to help her stop her rambling and take a deep breath.

"I'm sorry Jotaro, I'm just… worried is all."

The eldest Kujo pats his sister's shoulder to comfort her.

"There's not much else we can do, and we can't really deny the old man's story now. But I'll keep you and Mom safe, like always. So don't worry too much."

Shoko smiles at her brother and places a hand over the one on her shoulder.

"Come on, it'll get dark soon and it'd be a pain if we have to find our way in the dark."

"Yeah."

Even though this is their house, it is very easy to find yourself lost in a house that's even bigger than Jotaro. Those games of hide and seek back when they were kids were proof of that, especially that one time the older sibling cried when he couldn't find Shoko and thought she was gone. As they both walked back, the siblings could feel a presence but dismiss it. Unbeknownst to them, that presence is far away, hidden in the darkness, and senses them as well.

I like to think that the Kujo siblings played a lot when they were kids and Jotaro cares about his baby sister, too. I also think that while I'm not super crazy about the OVA, the writers did a good job adding their own touches to the original story.
