Summary: What if Kate Todd and Leroy Jethro Gibbs met way before Kate joined the Secret Service and were together for a few months before a big fight broke out, pushing the two away from each other. 20 years later, the two meet again, will they be able to work things out between them? 20 YEARS AGO

Kate was sitting in her bed, trying to study for an exam that was coming up when there was a knock on the door. She sighed in frustration and looked up only for her face to break out in a huge smile.

"Jethro!" She squealed as she ran and jumped into his arms. Jethro smiled and hugged his beautiful girlfriend.

"Hi, beautiful." He said as he kissed her lips and walked over to her bed and sat down with Kate in his lap.

"What are you doing here!? I thought you weren't coming back until next month?"

"I thought I'd surprise you." Jethro grinned as Kate giggled and ran her fingers through his hair before wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him passionately. She broke the kiss and just hugged him tightly, breathing in his muscular scent.

"I missed you so much." She whispered into the crook of his neck as Jethro smiled and hugged her tighter as he laid down with her on top of him.

"I can tell." He teased making Kate scoff and slap his chest as she got up. Jethro chuckled and sat up as he watched Kate clear her stuff from the bed.

"So, since I'm here...Watcha wanna do?"

"Oh, I can think of many things we can do today." Kate smirked as Jethro smirked back.

"And what would be, beautiful?" He asked innocently as Kate climbed back onto his lap and ran her fingers down his covered muscular chest.

"Well...It involves a bed...two people...me and you."

"Uh-huh."

"No clothes are necessary." She whispered in his ear before biting his earlobe. Jethro let out a low chuckle as he ran his hands down her sides and onto her butt, squeezing gently.

"Well, I had a different idea actually." He replied as Kate looked at him and pouted.

"And what would that be, handsome?" Kate asked mockingly as Jethro smirked at her.

"We go out."

"Like a date?"

"Definitely like a date." Jethro answered as Kate giggled and kissed his lips.

"Sounds like a plan." She said with a grin making Jethro smile at her.

"I love you, Katie."

"I love you too, Jethro."

PRESENT

Gibbs was in the kitchen making breakfast when he saw Kelly walk out of her and Layla's bedroom yawning.

"Mornin', Kelly."

"Mornin', Daddy." Kelly said with a sleepy smile as she sat down on a stool at the kitchen island before the door opened and Layla walked in.

"Good morning, people! Lovely morning isn't it?" She asked as she walked to the kitchen and kissed Gibbs' cheek before sitting down next to Kelly after grabbing a bottle of cold water.

"Did you really just go for a run...At 6 in the morning?" Kelly asked as she raised an eyebrow at her sister.

"Well, duh. I couldn't go back to sleep with Godzilla sleeping in the room below us." Layla said, rolling her eyes as Gibbs chuckled and placed two plates in front of the girls.

"Thank you!" The two said with a smile before eating their breakfast as Gibbs just sipped on his coffee and watched his daughters.

"Ow. That's a wall." The three heard a voice before Jake appeared in the kitchen while he was rubbing his eyes. Jake heard giggling making him stop in his tracks as he opened his eyes to see two girls staring at him and giggling. He looked up and saw Gibbs with raised eyebrows staring at him. Jake looked down and noticed he was only in his boxers.

"Oh, shit!" He exclaimed making Layla and Kelly burst out laughing as he ran back into his room to put on some decent clothes while Gibbs smirked and finished his cup of coffee.

He put his cup in the sink before turning to the girls, "Alright. You two get dressed and head to class."

"What about curious George over there?" Layla asked, nodding her head over to Jake who walked back into the kitchen, pulling his shirt over his head before bumping into a wall making Layla, Kelly, and Gibbs wince.

"Ow." Jake mumbled, rubbing his forehead. Gibbs sighed and looked at his watch.

"I'll...Take him to work with me. He can help me with some stuff, and if not, he can entertain Ducky for a while."

"Ooh, who's Ducky? He sounds mysterious." Jake said as he fixed his hair.

"Oh, he is alright. He's a sweet, funny old man." Kelly smiled as Layla agreed with her.

"Oh...Well, in that case, he sounds cool." Jake shrugged.

"Alright, c'mon curious George." Gibbs said, grabbing his coat after kissing Kelly and Layla's cheeks. Jake groaned at the nickname making the girls giggle and Gibbs had a smirk on his face as he walked out the door with Jake trailing behind him.

Gibbs and Jake walked into the elevator, riding quietly up to the bullpen with the occasional sound of Gibbs sipping his coffee.

"How can you drink so much coffee?" Jake asked as Gibbs shrugged.

"It helps me work." He replied as he looked over at Jake who chuckled softly.

"Mom did say that you liked to drink a lot of coffee. She said that one time you were so stressed out, you had at least 15 cups of coffee."

Jake heard Gibbs let out a chuckle making him look up at him.

"You know...You should smile more, makes you look younger." Jake said with a smirk on his face as Gibbs looked at him with raised eyebrows.

"Don't feel like it." Gibbs said as he walked out of the elevator when the doors opened. Jake rolled his eyes and followed him out to see two guys who Jake remembers as McGee and DiNozzo.

"Morning, Boss!" The two greeted the leader as he just nodded his head. Jake walked in and gave a nod as well at the two men.

"Oh...Morning, Jake." Tony said as he looked at the young man with a raised eyebrow while McGee frowned. Gibbs sat in his seat and turned around, setting his coffee down on the table before grabbing a pile of finished paperwork and giving it to Jake.

"Here. Sort those out for me and then put them in the filing cabinet over there." He ordered as he pointed to a filing cabinet between McGee and Tony's desks.

"O...kay but...Where am I supposed to sit?"

"Well, there's an empty desk over there isn't there?" Gibbs asked sarcastically making Jake roll his eyes and sit down at the desk next to his father's before starting to sort out the paperwork.

McGee and Tony gaped at each other. They'd never seen their bossman let someone who doesn't work for NCIS sit at an empty desk and look through piles of papers, sorting them through. Or even doing any kind of job at all! Usually, he'd chase them away and wouldn't even bother giving them another glance.

"Boss…"

"Question, DiNozzo?"

"Um, yeah...Are you really letting him stay here and work?" Tony asked curiously making Gibbs look up from the file he was reading and glared at the young man sitting across from him.

"Do you have a problem with that, DiNozzo?" Gibbs asked with a dangerously low voice.

Tony's eyes widened before shaking his head, "No, Boss. Not at all."

"Good. Then get back to work." Gibbs said before returning to to the file he was reading. Tony glanced at Jake who was looking at him curiously before both young men got back to work. McGee had been occupying himself with a cold case while also listening to the conversation between his partner and leader of the team.

It was now 1145, the bullpen was quiet except for the occasional quiet whispers of help between McGee and DiNozzo and the slurping of liquid from Gibbs drinking his coffee. Jake had just finished putting the sorted paperwork away when a loud growl came from his stomach making Gibbs, McGee, and Tony stop what they were doing and look at Jake who had a sheepish look on his face.

"Sorry...I haven't had breakfast yet." He stated, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand while the other was shoved into the front pocket of his pants. Gibbs raised his eyebrows while McGee glanced from his boss to the boy to the boss again, then back to the boy.

"Um...Jake, if wouldn't mind, I can take you out to get some lunch? I mean, it is almost 1200." McGee said before looking at his boss who was staring back at him. McGee shifted uncomfortably in his seat before clearing his throat and looking into his boss's eyes.

"If that's okay...With you boss. Tony and I can take him out." He suggested as Jake and Tony looked at the bossman while he just stared at McGee with his fingers hooked under his chin before nodding slowly.

"1 hour. Starting now."

"Oh, for real, Boss?!" Tony exclaimed happily, already standing up to grab his coat.

"Yes. 1 hour starting now. Go." Gibbs said, shooing the three out of the bullpen and into the elevator.

"You're the best, Boss!"

"Thank you, Sir."

"Don't 'sir' me, McGee." Gibbs grumbled as McGee nodded.

"Right, sorry...Boss."

"Thanks, Da- Gibbs." Jake said, correcting himself since he wasn't truly ready to call the elder man "Dad" yet. Gibbs just stood outside the elevator, looking at Jake. But, as the doors closed, Gibbs gave the young man a smile making Jake smile back at him.

1 HOUR LATER

Gibbs had just finished a report he had to reread when his phone started ringing. He sighed and grabbed his phone, already standing up to grab his gear when he read the name on the screen.

It kept flashing on his screen as his phone kept ringing before it stopped.

"They're already here? It must've been a smooth flight." He thought to himself as he was about to call back when the phone rang again. He answered it.

"Gibbs." He stated. His usual answer to all calls he gets.

"Hey. It's me, Kate."

"Hi, Katie. Everything okay?"

"Yeah! Everything's okay. I just...Can you do me a favor?" Kate's soft voice said asked from the other line. Gibbs swallowed hard.

"What is it?"

"Can you pick us up from the airport? We just landed and we have no idea where to go from here. Hell, I don't even know where you live. I don't even know how Jake found you!" Kate exclaimed making Gibbs chuckle as he grabbed his keys, and his gun(for safety) and headed out of the bullpen.

"We?" He asked, thinking she brought a boyfriend with her.

"Yeah, Jaiden and I...Jake did tell you he is a twin right?"

"Right, yes. He did. I forgot." Gibbs said before he heard Kate's soft, angelic laugh making his heart skip two beats he had to stop and lean against a wall for support before he collapsed on the ground.

"Well, we'll be waiting for you." She said as Gibbs swallowed hard once more before continuing on his journey to the elevator.

"I'll see you soon, Katie." Gibbs said before flipping his phone, ending the conversation. The elevator doors opened with the sound of laughter coming out of the box.

"Boss! We have a case already?" Tony asked, with a bit of disappointment in his tone. Gibbs shook his head as the three walked out only for him to grab Jake by the arm and pull him back into the elevator.

"Wha- Hey!"

"Your mother's here and we're going to go pick her up...Unless you want to stay here and help them with cold cases." Gibbs said as he held the elevator doors open in case Jake changed his mind.

Jake thought for a bit before saying, "I want to stay and help McGee and Tony." with a firm voice and then stepping out of the elevator. Gibbs raised his eyebrows before letting the doors close and riding by himself down to the parking lot.

"What a day today is going to be." He thought to himself as he scrubbed a hand down his face and let out a sigh.
