A Dream Restored
The next day Kermit was sitting in Wiz's pool house while his best friend and pets slept, he was watching TV wearing a spare shirt of Wiz's and eating some cereal looking depressed.
On the TV was a news channel with Chet Ubetcha covering the Muppet Theatre collapse, Chet said "Um, yeah Kermit the Frog certainly brought the house down once and for all today. And all though Kermit has not been available for questions, unconfirmed reports suggest he was responsible for building the water tank that exploded and flooded the building. I've been told the two hundred and fifty Lumas that were part of the display…."
Just then there was a knock on the door. Kermit, hearing it said "Wiz, someone at the door" However Wiz was in a deep sleep and the knocking woke Rita and Runt up, the dog barks going to the door excited, somehow the barking also didn't wake Wiz up.
Kermit however sighs, sets his bowl aside and turns the TV off, it was depressing him more anyway. He then looks and see the shadow outline of six people he knew, five of which he was afraid of seeing again as he said "Oh no…"
"Mr. Frog?" Maria said sounding concerned
"Come on Frog, you can't just hide out in your friends pool house" Gwen said, "That's more depressing then hiding out at your friend's apartment."
"Yes, we just want to make sure you are alright, that is all" Nicole said concerned. Kermit opens the door to see Maria and the contestants minus Roman and New standing there. Nicole then said softly "Hey Kermit."
"Are you okay?" Mondo asked
"Everyone…look I'm sorry for what happened" Kermit said looking down "About the prize money and…"
"Oh, it's okay, Maria told us everything from the typo to your trying to find a way to get the money" Nicole told him
"No, none of this is okay" Kermit said shaking his head
"Look on the bright side, least we're all in one piece" Gwen points out smiling "Heck even Roman and Neo did, and they called to let us know"
"Yeah, and you know what I bet we can find some other place to put the show on, right?" Nicole said looking to the others
"Yeah" The others said nodding in agreement
"The show? Guys, I'm sorry but I'm done" Kermit told them sighing which shocked the others in silence for a bit, this was a frog who took every bad thing in stride
"Are you serious?" Mondo asked shocked
"What do you mean done? Come on!" Gwen told him
"Didn't you see this?" Kermit asked and picked up the days newspaper which had an article about him and the accident "It says I'm a 'danger to society'"
"Whisper says that can easily be sorted out" Whisper said to that
"How this? 'A deluded washed-up charlatan who never had a hit in career'" Kermit adds in from the paper.
"Oh, come one, you don't seriously believe that do you?" Nicole asked him.
"Yeah, I do" Kermit said nodding and goes to close the door
Mondo stops him and says "Listen, you're not the only one who lost something, we all did" Some of the other voice a yes in agreement "I mean I lost any chance of ever speaking to my uncle again over this show"
"I'm sorry…" Kermit said as he closes the door, the others were disappointed and leave. The frog goes to his bed and lies down on it.
The door opens again, and it was Ochaco holding a cake tin and she said "Mr. Frog?"
"Ochaco please…" Kermit said depressed
"Uh, I baked a cake for because I know you're sad right now and probably afraid to try again…" Ochaco said trying to find the right words
"Yeah, I am afraid" Kermit said sitting up and stands up and indicates to the newspaper "I'm afraid that this" He kicks the paper "This me, right now is who I am." Indicates to the place around him "That this is my lot for life. That I am not the guy my dad wanted me to be. Not by a million miles"
"But you told me…" Ochaco said to him, but Kermit cuts her off
"What? What did I say?" Kermit asked her
"Well, you said, don't let fear stop you from doing the thing you love" Ochaco told him somiling a bit
Kermit groans a bit as he goes to sit on his bed "That is just a pointless, stupid, corny…"
"No, it's not" Ochaco told him
"Did you really believe that you were going to be a singer?" Kermit asked her
"Well, yeah, maybe" Ochaco said unsure, but she wanted to try
"Well, you were just a bigger fool as I am" Kermit told her bluntly which shocked the girl, the frog sighs and said "Look kid, you and me we're both afraid for good reason, because deep down we know…" He sighs and looks away "We just don't have what it takes"
Ochaco looks on and gets upset, she slams the tin on the floor and storms off.
"Wow…master was a little harsh there" Runt said upset seeing that
"It's understandable, he is depressed, and it will take more there words to get him out of it" Rita said with a nod
Ochaco listening to her music walking through the streets trying to calm down and cheer up, she really believed in Kermit's words but it seemed like he no longer believes his own advice anymore.
Suddenly a leaf hits her in the face and looks and sees a familiar tree that rained leaves on her on audition day, she looks to her right and saw she had unintentionally walked to where the Muppet Theatre ruins were. She stepped over the caution tape and walks into the opened-up area, the surrounding foundation was still up, and all the rubble was pushed off to the side.
Back at the poolhouse Wiz was alone in it, still asleep, suddenly his phone goes off the ringtone ironically 'Wake me up'
"Ah! I'm awake, I'm awake!" Wiz being startled awake. He looks around and see he was along and checks his phone and saw it was Kermit and answers it "Hey Kermit."
"Hey Wiz" Kermit said to him still sounding depressed
"Hey, where'd you and the pets go? You, okay?" Wiz asked him
"Listen could you meet me on the corner of Springfield and Amphibia?" Kermit asked him
Wiz yawns and said during it "Now?"
"Yeah, please and could you uh…um could you bring me a spare speedo?" Kermit asked before hanging up
This caught Wiz off guard and surprised him fully awake as he looks at his phone and said "Speedo?" Just what does Kermit need a Speedo for?
Wiz soon arrived in his car at the street corner and saw on it a sign that read 'Muppet Car Wash' he also saw Maria, Rita and Runt also there with Kermit
"Hey Maria" Wiz said waving
"Oh hey there Wiz" Maria said smiling holding a bucket while Runt happily greets Wiz
Kermit walks up in his usual tux minus the jacket and said "Yeah, did you bring your speedo?"
"Oh…uh yeah, here" Wiz said still confused had Kermit the speedo
"Thanks…hey, you're a real pal Wiz" Kermit said accepting it
Suddenly a car honks its horn and stops by them, Maria excited said "Oh, our first customer"
"Maria, fill the bucket" Kermit said and said to the driver as he begins to undress "Be right with you sir."
Wiz still confused asked him as he catches his shirt "Hang on, what exactly are you doing?"
"The only other job I know" Kermit said sadly as the driver of the car, Ace Hardlight annoyed honks his horn as he puts some goggles. "Just glad my dad isn't here to see this. Maria if you would." Maria splashes him with water "Thanks…well gotta go to work, I'll see you around Wiz."
Wiz watches as Kermit jumps onto the windscreen and uses his wet and soap covered body to begin cleaning the car. He goes to his car and starts it but looks on.
"Come on, I ain't got all day" Ace said impatient "Ah forget it, too slow dude" He starts his engines and drives off knocking Kermit off and he lands on the ground.
Kermit groans nearly passing out as another car arrives and honks but then a familiar voice said "One moment sir" Kermit looks and see it's Wiz who removes his lab coat who said to his friend "Well you know the good thing about hitting rock bottom? There's only one way left to go and that's…." He helps Kermit to his feet "up. Come on, you watch I'll dry" He takes his shirt off as they'll be working in warm weather and gets a towel ready
Kermit removes his goggles and smiles at his friend and before he could say anything Maria hits him with water again "Thank you, Maria" The old woman laughs she did it intentially.
Soon the two friends with Maria began to wash several cars throughout the day. Rita and Runt event helped out with Rita getting more water with Maria and Runt acting as and extra washer with his fur. They worked throughout the day to near sunset
Kermit was on the hood of a car trying to get a stubborn stain off the windshield when he hears a distant voice, it almost sounded like angelic singing. He looks and sees the souce is coming to the area across the street where the ruins of his theatre were, one of the reasons he picked here to do the wash.
He gets off the car and heads across the road taking his goggles off. Wiz seeing him leave asked "Kermit, where are you going?"
As Kermit got close the voice got clearer and he thought he recognized the voice as, he then begins climbing the rubble to get to the theatre floor
Voice: I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
He climbs to the top and indeed sees the source of the singing was in face Ochaco, listening to the music on her headphones and sings along
Ochaco: I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelu…
Ochaco then stops as she looks to her left and sees standing there looking both surprised and amazed was Kermit the frog and she gasped as she removes her headphones.
"I um…" Kermit began and clears his throat as he asked, "Do you think you can sing like that, in front of a real audience?"
"I don't know, but I at least want to try" Ochaco admits nodding
"Good" Kermit said and smiles happily "Because I want to be there to see it happen"
Ochaco smiles happily it seems Kermit's hope and dreams were restored and both now get to continue their dream for at least one more night.
Well Kermit's hope is restored, will the night be successful, find out soon
