Yes, I gave the cast smart phones. They did that in the anime for the game and it makes sense. Smart phones have been around since 2008-2010 so yeah, it's been a while. I also have two days off this week before working the upcoming holiday, so I wanted to at least get another chapter up and start working on the next! Oh! Thank you for all who have followed and added to favourited!

14, April, 2011
"Of course, it's raining," Yuri grumbled as she ran a brush through her long hair that morning.
"It looks like it won't rain for a while after this week," Yu commented as he scrolled through his phone.
A groan of disbelief was her response as she braided her hair into a mori style for the day. It was rare that she'd do something with her hair, but she just wanted it out of her face. Especially with the rain. It was a good thing that her umbrella was reliable. They headed down the stairs and noted that Nanako had left them already. Right, she had something to do before class. For lunch they just grabbed a small snack.
"Is everything all right?" Yu asked as he noticed his sister's thoughtful expression.
"I'm just thinking about the figure we saw on the midnight channel…it reminded me of Konishi-san," She admitted, giving him a tired smile before it dropped, "I just hope she's okay."
"We'll see her at school," He reminded her, and she nodded at that.
Why was Yuri getting the feeling that wasn't the case? She mentally sighed before turning to look behind her when rushing footsteps came closer. Chie was running towards them, her bookbag held over her head to stop some of the rain from falling on her. Yu turned as well and tilted his head in thought.
"Perfect timing!" Chie exclaimed as she stopped next to Yuri, "Sorry for invading your space!"
"It's all right," Yuri smiled, "I'd rather you not get sick because of the rain."
"I did have my own," Chie said, and she turned embarrassed as the twins looked at her, "but I saw this kung fu movie where they used an umbrella to pull some sweet moves, and…well…I accidentally broke mine trying to mimic the movie. By the way, did you see it?"
"See what?" The two asked in unison.
"You know, the thing we were talking about yesterday," Chie said, amused at their reaction, "the midnight channel…never mind. We'll talk about it when the others are around. We need to get going though, we'll be late to school otherwise."
The three quickened their pace and Chie struck up a conversation about hobbies of all things. She learned that the two shared hobbies such a video games and cooking but had their own. Yuri liked to sew and crochet while Yu liked to make models and write. Both knew English, which was odd. Neither explained why. She mentally concluded that they should have a video game tournament before the two returned to the city.
"Who's our teacher for today?" Yuri questioned as they changed shoes.
"Oh, Sofue-Sensei," Chie answered before giving a wry smile, "she's the history teacher…she's a bit strange, but she knows her stuff!"
Yuri nodded at that, and they all headed to class. A woman wearing nemes headdress stood at the podium and gave the students kind smiles as they walked in. Yuri gathered that was the history teacher. Her shoulders relaxed a bit and she smiled at the teacher. She greeted Yukiko before taking her seat next to her and in front of her brother. Yu sat down as well and let out a quiet yawn. She gained a worried expression, neither sibling had slept well. Yuri ran a hand down her face in thought, she couldn't even remember what she had dreamed about after they witnessed the midnight channel. The bell rang and the class president called everyone to attention and had them bow to the teacher.
"Hello, everyone," The teacher greeted in a kind tone, "my name is Sofue Kimiko, and if you need an expert for world history then I'm the person you can come to. Before we begin, here's a little information about me."
Yuri frowned in confusion before shaking her head in amusement. Leave it to Inaba to have some strange teachers. She heard Yu give the softest of snorts and fought her own smile as she brought her leg back and gently hit his shin. He needed to keep a straight face.
"I love to use my dowser to look for lost items, and there's nothing quite like a romance novel," Sofue continued, "in fact, world history can be seen as a magnificent romance. History is like a river; it was born in the past and flows ever forward. I hope we can all enjoy the profundity of history, and since this is my first lecture, I'll start with an easy mention. Our transferee's, Mr. Narukami, please stand up."
Yu felt as though that was karma for sniggering at the teacher. He stood up from his chair and stood up straight waiting for the question. Yuri looked back towards him and raised a brow. She wasn't the only one watching him, but it wasn't as nerve wracking as the rest of the class.
"The western calendar is based on Anno Domini, the traditionally believed ear of Jesus Christ's birth," Sofue said, and he startled slightly upon realizing that she really knew her stuff, "what is the year before 1 AD called?"
"1 BC." He answered
"Ah, you seem to understand history quite well," Sofue said as he quickly sat down, "if you think that history is like math then 0 AD would be the natural motion, but world history is much more complicated."
Sofue continued with the lecture. Yuri took notes and heard the gossip start up. Yu seemed to have grown quite popular due to his ability to answer a question correctly. She changed pen colours as she wrote down a piece of information that seemed important. She knew what the next lines of gossip would be, having heard it so many times before. "Why are they behind a year if they're so smart?" "Are they actually dumb?" She was expecting it to happen before the month was over. A quiet sigh came out of her before she sat up straighter and continued to take notes. It continued like that through the day, with each class showing that the twins knew the information. Sofue seemed to find Yu her best student while Hosoi enjoyed calling on Yuri. It wasn't her fault that she was a sucker for hand puppets, she would stick with those words even as Yu teased her about it. They both agreed that Yamada was creepy.
"It's so freaky how that body was hung upside-down!" A short girl exclaimed to her friend as the class packed up.
"Is it supposed to be mimicking an execution?" Her friend questioned, "It's so messed up…"
"A senpai told me it was a third-year named Saki who found the body," The short girl added.
Yuri and Yu shared a look and he sighed quietly. It seemed as though his sister's intuition was right on the money. If he knew that it would be consistent, they could always play the lottery. She narrowed her eyes at him, and he grinned in response. They knew one another way too well. Their expressions became serious as Yosuke walked up to them.
"Y-Yo…um…It's, uh, it's not really that important, but…well, yesterday on TV, I…oh, uhh…never mind," Yosuke stuttered a frown on his face, "Look, I'll tell you later. Ahaha…"
"Yosuke, did you hear the rumour?" Chie asked as she noticed him, "Sai-Senpai's supposedly the one who discovered that body."
"I wonder if that's why she looked so down," Yosuke murmured in thought, "she doesn't seem to be at school today either."
Yukiko let out a soft sigh as she picked her school bag up. Yuri noted how exhausted she looked and sent her a concerned glance. Chie joined with her own concern, making Yuri relieved that it wasn't just her noticing.
"Hey, Yukiko, are you helping out at the inn today too?" Chie asked.
"Things are really out of hand right now," Yukiko quietly explained, "I'm sorry."
The raven-haired girl quickly left the classroom, and the remaining group shared a concerned look. The teen was too stressed, and it had something to do with her family inn. Yuri frowned in thought before it hit her. The inn was the last place that Yamano had been seen at, no wonder Yukiko was so busy! There had to be quite a few people upset with them and the police were most likely doing an investigation.
"I guess they're running her ragged," Chie muttered in worry before shaking her head, "by the way, did you see it last night?"
"Huh?" Yosuke asked as he was brought out his thoughts, "Uh, well…what about you?"
"I did!" Chie exclaimed, "I seriously saw a girl! But…my soulmate's a girl? What's that supposed to mean? I couldn't quite tell who it was, but it as a girl for sure. Her hair was about shoulder length, and she was wearing our school uniform, and…"
"Hey, I think that's the same person I saw!" Yosuke stated, startling Chie, "I couldn't make out that much detail, though. The image I saw was much blurrier."
"Wait, so you saw it too!?" Chie questioned as the twins shared a look, "And we saw the same girl? Does that mean…we have the same soulmate?"
"How should I know?" Yosuke questioned sending her a strange look before turning towards the twins, "How 'bout you two? See anything?"
Chie and Yosuke were welcomed to a silent conversation between twins. The only way they could tell something was off was by the frowns on their faces. Something was mumbled in English before Yuri sighed and shook her head in agreement. They were surprised when Yuri levelled them with a serious look, before a light pink flush appeared on her face.
"The same girl appeared, but it was clearer to me than it was Yu," Yuri admitted, "it was Konishi-san…but it looked like she was confused and scared. It didn't help that when it happened Yu tried to touch the TV screen and went through it."
"I'm sorry, what?" Yosuke questioned.
"What do you mean he went through the TV?" Chie questioned.
"His hand went through the screen of the TV, but something tried dragging him in…he got stuck because the TV was too small," Yuri reiterated, her face slowly growing to be a deep red.
"You must've fallen asleep in front of your TV," Yosuke commented, a wry smile appearing on his face.
"That'd be one interesting dream, though," Chie commented, an amused smile appearing on her face, "I like the part where he got stuck 'cause the TV was too small. It sounds realistic, if it had been bigger…Ohhh, that reminds me, my family's been talking about buying a bigger TV."
"I knew they wouldn't believe us," Yuri grumbled to Yu, and he let out a sigh of disbelief at the two.
"I thought it sounded more believable than soulmates," He stated, rubbing the back of his head in thought.
They ignored the two Inaba residents as they talked about larger TV's. Yu took out his phone as did Yuri. It was a quick back and forth message and they had a plan. They wanted to figure out what was going on in the town. Igor had given them some idea that it was important. But they didn't know to what extent. Yuri heard ringing in her ears and brought a hand up to her forehead. She thought she heard someone talking.
"You all right?" Yu asked, worried about her health.
"Yeah, just a slight headache…" Yuri answered before blinking, "oddly enough, I feel great today, since last night it's the best I've ever felt."
That odd admission caused Yu to wonder what had caused it but decided it didn't matter. His sister was feeling better and looked better. Granted, she looked exhausted because they didn't sleep well. Her surprised expression as Chie grabbed onto her arm caused him to grin slightly. It increased as she was dragged out of the room.
"We're going to Junes," Yosuke informed him with an amused tone, "I guess Chie didn't want Yuri-San to run off."
"She wouldn't have to run far to catch her," Yu admitted as they began to follow the girls, "Yuri can't run for long, every time she does, she gets pretty sick."
Yosuke filed that information away to make sure to keep an eye on Yuri. He felt a great kinship with the two and not just because they also came from the city. He just…he couldn't really explain it.
Yuri looked around the large electronics department and found herself moving towards the MP3 players and headphones. She blanched at the prices and decided against getting a new one, seeing as her old one had been stolen at their previous school. She did cave and purchased a Lotus Juice cd, he had a couple new songs that caught her eye. It was even with a singer she'd heard of every so often. Fate is in Our Hands sounded like an interesting song. Yu watched as she put her purchase into her school bag and took her usual spot next to him, clutching her bag close.
"Wow, this is huge!" Chie exclaimed as she looked at one of the plasma TV's, "And…holy crap, it's expensive! Who buys something like this?"
"I dunno, right folks?" Yosuke shrugged, "Honestly, not many people shop for TVs here, that's why we don't have any clerks around."
"If it helps most of the clerks are closer to the CDs and MP3 players," Yuri commented with a shy smile.
"Huh, not worth trying then, I guess," Chie muttered before perking up with a slight grin, "well, at least looking's free."
Yosuke narrowed his eyes at one of the TVs and gave it a scrutinizing glare. He brought a hand up and pressed against its surface. There was no give. Yuri remembered the feeling of her hand gliding through the screen and looked down at hers. Yu noticed her thoughtful frown and gently nudged her with his elbow. They shared a quick look and came to a silent agreement to try at the same time once the other two had move further away from it.
"Nope, can't get in," Yosuke stated with a dramatic sigh, "figures."
"This proves it," Chie chuckled, "it was all just a dream."
"Besides, these flat screen TVs are so thin, you'd just end up on the other side," Yosuke stated before shaking his head, "what am I saying? So, Chie, what kind of TV are you guys in the market for?"
Chie started to talk to Yosuke about how her family was looking for a cheap TV and he began to show her the different ones. Yuri shook her head in slight amusement before looking at the flat screen that Yosuke had attempted to put his hand through. She raised her hand in unison with her brother and they both pressed it against the screen. Yuri was welcomed to the odd sensation of her hand passing through it. The only thing she could equate it with, was trying to push her hand through water that was starting to turn to slush. It wasn't cold though; it was oddly warm. She perked up slightly as energy went through her hand. She then realised it had gotten quiet.
"Are…are their arms in the TV?" Yosuke questioned Chie, as though he was unsure of what he was seeing.
"Uhhh…it that some kinda new model?" Chie questioned, "L-Like with a new function?"
"Hell no!" Yosuke exclaimed before running up to the two of them.
He couldn't help but think they looked like the cat that caught the canary. He supposed that even people like them didn't like being called liars or being made fun of. He looked at their arms and tried to see how they were doing it. He poked Yuri's elbow and she shot him a strange look.
"You gotta be kidding me," Chie said as she poked at Yu, "did you two really stick your hands through the screen?"
"Oh man, this is for real," Yosuke commented as he looked behind the tv and saw that their hands were not sticking out, "that's some magic trick, so how's it works? What's the magician's secret?"
"I think I can go further," Yu stated, and everyone blanched at that as he stuck his head inside.
Chie and Yosuke freaked out as Yuri joined her brother and blinked at how…yellow everything was. There was also bright scarlets and deep blacks. They could still hear the other two freaking out, but it was through a film. Yu looked towards his sister, and she shrugged slightly.
"It's oddly peaceful here," She quietly commented, "and warm."
"Really? It's kinda chilly," He stated, and she blinked at that.
"Ah, my temperature might be pretty low then," She said, her blasé attitude bothering her brother a bit, "I'll make sure to drink some warm tea tonight and get some decent rest. We should probably say something to them."
"It's pretty empty inside!" Yu called back to them, and Yosuke let out a strange sound that caused his sister to let out a laugh.
"What do you mean, "inside"?!" He questioned and she let out a very unlady like snort.
"What do you mean "empty"?!" Chie asked.
"It's very spacious in here," Yu tried again, and this time Yuri knew her brother was messing with them completely as they exclaimed and started to freak out even more.
"I wonder how long it'll take them to calm down," Yuri quietly said to her brother.
"A few minutes most likely," He answered before tilting his head in thought, "you planning on opening up commissions again?"
"Yeah, I might open them up when I'm in Iwatodai for my check-up," She answered, "one of my followers said she's been keeping an eye on my commissions, she really wants a blanket and a skirt."
"Oh, is she the one that posts the flower arrangements and information about computers?" He asked.
"Yeah, she seems really sweet," She answered with a happy smile, "I haven't heard from her since moving, but I think she's helping a friend out at the moment."
They didn't get to continue the conversation as something bumped into them from behind and they fully fell into the TV. Yu Grabbed onto his sister's arm so they wouldn't get separated and regretted that as they both hit a tiled floor with enough force to cause some damage. They grunted and two more followed theirs. Yu released his sister and slowly got to his feet as she rubbed at her right shoulder, she had landed roughly on it. He held out a hand and she accepted it, allowing him to pull her to her feet.
"Oww, I landed right on my wallet!" Yosuke muttered as he slowly stood up.
"Man…where the heck are we?" Chie questioned as they all looked around in the fog, "What is this place? Somewhere inside Junes?"
"Hell no it isn't!" Yosuke shouted, affronted that she thought such a thing, "I mean, we fell thought a TV! Actually…what is going on here?"
"Are you guys okay?" Yu questioned.
"I think my butt's cracked now," Yosuke muttered.
"Of course, it is!" Chie huffed.
"This place kinda looks like a TV studio," Yuri commented, squinting as she tried to see through the fog.
"There's no place like this in Inaba," Chie commented before frowning, "at least…I don't think."
"Probably not," Yuri agreed with the shorter girl.
"This place is huge," Yosuke commented as he also tried to see through the fog by squinting.
"What are we gonna do?" Chie asked.
"Why don't we look around?" Yu suggested.
"It's not like we can go back the same way we came in," Yuri added, nodding her agreement with her brother.
That caused the two to panic again and Yuri shook her head slightly as she started to feel the chill that her brother had commented on. She pulled her book bag against her chest and tried to ignore the sudden feeling that they were being watched. Yuri wondered if she was just paranoid. The feeling grew even worse as they walked further into the fog. It felt like multiple eyes were on them, and she looked at her brother and friends. It didn't seem like they noticed, or if they did, they didn't react to it.
"There's gotta be a way out," Chie sighed as they turned around a corner, well they did.
Yuri had run face first into the wall. Yu gave her a concerned glance and she waved them off, holding her nose and giving the wall a slight glare. It wasn't as though it was the walls' fault, it was immovable.
"We got in, so there has to be a way to get out," Yosuke commented, "let's cross our fingers and look around."
They walked through a door and the atmosphere changed. It felt depressing, like a dark cloud was hanging over them. Yuri was used to the feeling, her eyes down casted at the floor as a frown began to form on her face. She couldn't help but think back to when she was a child and feeling such things. Yu blinked as his sister grabbed onto his sleeve and noted her discomfort.
"This place feels different from where we were before," Chie commented, her discomfort noticeable in her voice.
"It looks like we're in some kinda building, but the fogs so damn thick I can't see anything," Yosuke sighed, growing agitated as they walked through another door and entered a room.
"Hey, the fogs lighter here," Chie commented.
"Still no service on our phones," Yosuke sighed, putting his phone away.
"Could you guys slow down a little?" Chie requested, giving the two boys a glare.
"It's a bit difficult to keep up with how hard it is to see through the fog," Yuri added, knowing exactly where the shorter girl was going with it.
"What the?" Chie muttered as they finally looked around the room.
It had yellow and red splatters everywhere. Yuri moved away from the group and stood before a pink scarf hanging from a ceiling beam. It was looped into the shape of a noose. Yuri knew exactly what that would signify. It was never good. She brought a hand up and rubbed at her bicep in thought. She ignored Yosuke's bathroom issues and kept staring at the noose. Her eyes finally left it and she looked at the walls. They were covered in posters that had been slashed through. She walked towards the wall and picked up two pieces of the same poser to try and see who it was. It felt oddly familiar. Like she had recently seen it. She scratched at her cheek in thought and shook her head. Her mind was starting to feel slightly sluggish, as was the rest of her body.
"Yu…I'm not feeling too good," She quietly admitted to her brother, walking up to him and gently resting her forehead against his shoulder.
"Is she okay?" Chie softly asked.
"Yeah, she doesn't look too good," Yosuke muttered, "then again, Chie's looking pretty rough right now."
"I'm…yeah I'm not feeling too good either," Chie admitted, sighing quietly.
"Let's head back to where we started," Yu suggested as he put a hand on his sister's head.
The other's nodded and soon they were welcomed to just how bad Yuri's health could get. Eventually, she ended up on her brother's back. Yuri gathered that exposure to the inside of the TV was enough to cause health issues, but she didn't know why she was suddenly being effected so much. She had felt better than ever upon entering the TV. I am thou…started to echo though her skull and she closed her eyes slightly as her head began to throb in pain.
"Wait somethings here," Yosuke stated, and Yuri propped her chin on her brother's shoulder.
"What is this thing? A monkey? A bear?" Chie questioned as she tried to see through the fog, her head was pounding in pain, and she was feeling horrible.
"Th-That's what I wanna know!" the unknown creature stated, "Who are you guys!?"
Yuri thought it was strange that a mascot was inside a TV and gathered that her mind wasn't working right. It was a blue and yellow teddy bear with a red and white jumpsuit. She wondered where it had come from. Yu walked closer to it to allow his sister a closer look, much to the other's disbelief.
"It's talking! Are you sure you want Yuri-chan near it?" Chie questioned, before turning on the bear, "What are you!? Y-You wanna fight!?"
"D-Don't yell at me like that," the bear cried, cowering in fear at them.
"Put me down, please," Yuri quietly requested, and Yu did so, keeping a hand on her arm so she wouldn't fall.
"Hey," she gently called, and the bear looked at her with tears in it's eyes, "can you tell us what you are and where this is? Please?"
"I'm a bear, can't you tell?" It questioned relieved that someone wasn't yelling at it, "I live here by myself. I've always lived here, but it doesn't have a name."
"You…live here?" Yosuke asked, calmly upon seeing Yuri's approach getting results.
"If I were you guys, I'd hurry back to the other side," the Bear informed them, "someone's been throwing people in here. It's a big headache."
"Huh? Throwing people in?" Yosuke questioned, "What're you talking about?"
"I dunno who's doing it! I just want them to think before they go doing things like that!" The Bear exclaimed, showing that it was done with its peace being disrupted.
"If people are being thrown in then there's someone else who knows about the TV and midnight channel," Yuri commented and Yu watched as his sister's expression became stony, "I'm starting to think that Yamano-San had been thrown in here."
"Ah, yes, a woman had been thrown in here!" The Bear confirmed, "But you guys need to leave! It's dangerous!"
"We don't know how to leave!" Yosuke finally shouted, "We'd leave if we could!"
"That's why I'm saying I'll let you out!" The Bear exclaimed at last.
"Wait…what?" Yosuke questioned as Yuri let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The bear stomped its foot on the ground and three TVs stacked on one another appeared. Yu stood before his sister and watched as she started to sway slightly. He made sure he had a good hold on her before they were pushed through the TV by the bear. She seemed to pass out the second they left the TV. He nervously checked her temperature and noticed she was running a bad fever. Chie and Yosuke let out groans of pain before glaring at the TV.
"Attention, shoppers," A female announcer said overhead, "our daily limited time sale will now begin at the side dish area on the first floor. Why not try the delicious, fresh produce Junes picked for you this morning as your side dish for dinner tonight? All ages are invited to take advantage of this incredible bargain!"
"Crap, it's already that late?" Yosuke questioned as he got to his feet, Chie following.
Yu slowly got up to his feet, his sister propped up against his shoulder before her picked her back up piggyback style. She was completely out of it, and it wasn't the first time it had happened. He couldn't help but remember the time it happened when they were walking home from school during their first year. Yuri mumbled something and he couldn't help but smile slightly. At least it seemed to be a bad fever and nothing else.
"Looks like it had been quite a while," Chie agreed before looking over at the twins, "seems Yuri-chan got the worse of it from the TV world."
"Just a bad fever, she should be better tomorrow," He answered, "ah, isn't that the poster we saw inside?"
"It is!" Chie exclaimed, "I thought I recognised it. Hiiragi Misuzu, she's been all over the news lately. Her husband was having an affair with the announcer lady that died the other day."
"Hey, do you think the weird room we saw was related to Yamano-San's death?" Yosuke questioned, "Now that I think about it, there was that creepy noose hanging from the ceiling…ugh. No more! We gotta stop talking about this. I'm gonna wipe what happened today from my brain, I don't think my poor heart can take anymore."
"I'm still feeling pretty bad too, let's go home…I wanna lie down and rest," Chie admitted.
It was agreed that they'd head home and get some rest.
"Hey, welcome home," Ryotaro greeted as Yu opened the door to the house, "what happened?"
"She's got a fever," Yu answered, "she'll be all right after some sleep."
"Must've been the move," Ryotaro muttered before giving his niece a concerned glance, "did you hear anything about a student named Konishi Saki?"
"She wasn't at school today," Yu answered as he gained a thoughtful expression, "I don't think anyone's heard from her."
"I see, to be honest, we got a call from her family stating she's disappeared," Ryotaro informed him with a serious look, "we've got people looking for her, but she hasn't been found yet."
"If I see her, I'll make sure to call her in," Yu stated, "Yuri will do the same, we just hope she's okay."
"You two know each other pretty well, huh?" Ryotaro questioned, a wry grin appearing on his face as he helped Nanako boil some water for ramen.
"Yeah." Yu confirmed.
Ryotaro looked at his nephew at his answer and noted the expression on his face. His own softened slightly. He sometimes regretted the fact that…he could never give Nanako another sibling. He shook his head and gently ruffled his daughter's dark hair, the hair she got from her mother. She smiled up at him, and he gave a small one back. Yu took his sister upstairs, and he could tell she was close to waking up. She mumbled something and placed her chin on his shoulder. He turned to see a thoughtful expression on her face, though it looked odd when mixing with the pure exhaustion.
"So, did I miss anything?" She asked.
"Nothing much, Saki-San is missing," Yu answered, and she frowned slightly.
"Think she might've been…" Yuri cut herself off and he knew exactly what she was suggesting.
He gave a slight nod. He did. Nothing else would make more sense than Saki being thrown into the TV. Someone would've seen the teen before then, if she wasn't in a place easily accessible no wonder she hadn't been found. He set his sister on her feet, and she stumbled towards the couch, plopping down. He placed their book bags down next to the desk and bumped shoulders with his sister.
"What do you think is going to happen?" He questioned as she let her head tilt back until it bumped the top of the couch.
"Tragedy," She answered, "to quote Igor completely. I think he was right…"
Yu nodded at that and got up from the couch. Yuri gave him a tired smile before shooing him from the room, much to his amusement. Yuri sat there for a few seconds before getting up and changing into pyjamas. She even got the futons ready and laid down under some of the blankets with her phone. She was looking through some blogs when she noticed that one of her followers was posting a new flower arrangement they made. She gave a tiny smile and liked the photo before reblogging it.
She fell asleep before her brother came back into the room.
