Now without further ado, let's get on with the story.
Understanding the power
It worked, the amulet the psychic gave him actually worked. As the school day ticked on by, Clyde pondered the endless possibilities presented to him through his new device.
While sitting in class, Clyde was trying to think on who else he could use it on, since he didn't want to hypnotize Lincoln again so soon. He wanted to test it out a few more times before going after his real target, Lori.
But before trying to use it on her, Clyde had to find out if this thing had any limits or if there were some things it just wouldn't do. And for that, he needed to mesmerize more people. The boy wondered who he could go after next and then it hit him, Rusty. His friend had been hiding that he had a girlfriend and was being secretive around it for some reason. And if Rusty tried to lie when asked about her, then Clyde would use the amulet on him, see if he could make the boy tell the truth.
So far, Clyde had just done one basic command, having Lincoln give him money, but for what Clyde's endgame was, he needed to know more. He didn't even want to imagine the backlash that would happen if things went bad.
The bell ringing out drew Clyde from his thoughts, shaking his head, the boy gathered his supplies and headed into the hall. "Lets see, I think Rusty's class is this way...ah here he is". Clyde thought as he found the room, with Rusty already sitting down at his desk.
"Hey Rusty, you got a second? I have a quick question". Clyde said as he approached his friend. "Oh hey Clyde. Uh, sure what is it?" Rusty asked with a brow raised as he looked at the boy. "I was wondering, do you have a girlfriend yet? And have just been hiding it?" Clyde asked. "Ha, what? No of course I don't, the only one I think is close is Lincoln". Rusty answered back. "Alright, let's see if this will work". Clyde wondered as he pulled the amulet from his pocket.
"Okay then, tell me the truth. Do you have a girlfriend?" Clyde asked while holding out the amulet. Rusty's eyes blinked like Lincoln's before him, and in a dazed voice he responded. "N-No I do not have a girlfriend". Rusty told him. "What? Then who was that girl you were with? I saw you two kiss". Clyde said.
"S-She is my...cousin. We aren't dating but are trying a...friends with benefits thing out". Rusty answered. Clyde's eyes went wide as he heard this confession. "Well alright then...that's all. Forget we had this convo". Clyde said as he shoved the amulet back in his pocket and walked out before Rusty was back to his old self.
"I think I'll have to cancel on the arcade, go see that psychic lady again so I can find out more info on this thing. I need to know if it has any limits, anything that'd make it not work. Or if there's a simple command to get people to snap back". Clyde wondered to himself as he started heading to his next class.
Halfway through the day, it was time to eat as the lunch bell sounded through the halls. Clyde made his way past the crowd of people to the table him and his friends usually ate at.
As the boy sat down he noticed Lincoln looking inside his wallet. "What's up Linc?" Clyde asked as he started taking his lunch out of his bag. "I could've swore I still had like fifteen bucks in here, but there's nothing now...I don't know if someone stole it or what?" Lincoln explained.
"Here I got ya buddy". Clyde said as he pulled out the fifteen dollars from his back pocket. Lincoln looked at him and held up his hand. "Clyde no, I couldn't take this...It's your money". Lincoln told him. "And I choose what I wanna do with it, so here, take it. It's no problem dude". Clyde replied. "It's not like it was mine to begin with hehe". Clyde thought as he held the bills out further. "Thanks man, I'll pay you back the next chance I get". Lincoln said.
"Oh I'm sure you will man, no worries". Clyde said as he started digging into his lunch. "By the way, I forgot that there was something my dads needed me to do today so unfortunately I'll have to cancel our arcade plans". Clyde told him as he took a bite out of his sandwich. "Aw well that sucks. We'll have to try for another day". Lincoln replied.
About halfway into their lunch, Clyde had a thought run through his head as he looked over to Stella. "Huh, the blow back could be worse than what would happen with Lori...but if I do it right, then she could just take it as a joke". Smirking Clyde got a plan in his mind on how to play it out.
As the bell went off, signaling the kids to head to their next class Clyde made his move, pulling Stella to the side. "Hey Stella, I was hoping you could help me test something real quick". Clyde said as he pulled the amulet from around his neck. "O-Okay, but make it quick, we really gotta head to class". Stella told him.
"So I got this thing from this old lady the other day. She said it can hypnotize people. I just wanted to see if it actually worked". Clyde told her. "Haha, okay. Sure let's try it". Stella replied. "Okay, Stella...I want you to kiss me". Clyde commanded. And with that, Stella's eyes blinked rapidly and Clyde's excitement rose. Smiling back at the boy, Stella puckered her lips before leaning forward and giving Clyde a quick peck on the lips.
Grinning like a fool, Clyde couldn't believe this was really working as well as it was. "O-Okay, and when I snap my fingers, you'll forget all about this and continue on your day like normal". Clyde said before snapping his fingers. And just like that, Stella went back to normal.
"You feel anything Stella?" Clyde asked as he played the fool. "Uh no, nothing at all. Guess you got scammed huh McBride?" Stella said. "Yeah...guess I did". He told her as the two headed to their respective classes.
Once the final bell rang, all the kids excitedly hurried to their buses, parent's cars or began to walk home. But Clyde had other plans, he had someone he needed to see. Walking through the streets of Royal Woods again, Clyde got to the ice cream shop he saw Rusty and his...cousin at the other day before turning in the direction he started running in.
"Lets see, if I just keep heading in this direction I should find the place again before long. Not really sure how long I ended up running though". Clyde thought to himself as he kept moving.
After about twenty minutes of wandering around, Clyde didn't see the psychic's shop anywhere. "Man, I could've swore it was somewhere around here. Maybe I'm misremembering where I ended up yesterday?" Clyde pondered as he kept walking along the sidewalk, scoping out all the neighboring buildings.
As he kept walking however, the boy found a boarded up building that felt familiar. Looking above, Clyde saw the neon psychic sign from before, albeit no light was on. "The hell?" Clyde said aloud as he stared at the storefront. "It seems like the place has been closed for a while. How did this happen in one day?" Clyde wondered as he looked around, getting closer to the building and staring in through the window to see if it looked as dilapidated on the inside as it did on the outside.
Sure enough, there was no furniture in the place, it looked like it had been abandoned for weeks if not more. "This is crazy, she was just here yesterday". Clyde said to himself as he found a nearby alley and figured there could be a backdoor or some other way inside.
"Ah there we go, that'll work just fine". Clyde said as he found a window without any boards across it. Luckily for him, the window was unlocked and Clyde opened it before slipping inside.
Dusting himself off, Clyde looked around, the place was dark and dusty, and like no one had been inside for a long time. "I mean she had actual magic crap here, maybe she did something to quickly disappear? Or maybe there's some other secret going on here". Clyde said aloud as he turned the flashlight on his phone, hoping to find some evidence laying about, or at least more info on the amulet.
Spotting the shelves the woman pulled the amulet from, Clyde looked around to see if there was any other magical items, or maybe an instruction manual on his own. "Oh what's this?" Clyde said as he found some old piece of parchment on the ground.
At the top of the page it read in bold letters "The amulet of control" with information on the item beneath it. "Ha, very literal name huh? Guess they weren't too creative when making this thing". Clyde said with a shrug. Opening his backpack, Clyde stuck the parchment in before zipping it back up and throwing over his shoulders.
"H-Hey psychic! You still around here somewhere?" Clyde called out as he kept roaming around the shop. But no one answered back, and now that he thought about it, Clyde realized he couldn't hear anything. No sounds but his own breathing and footsteps, it was strange that he couldn't hear any of the usual sounds of people outside or the cars passing by. "Okay...that's a bit creepy. I think I should get out of here, I got what I needed anyways". Clyde thought as he made his way back to where the window was at.
The window was still opened and Clyde hurried his step as he kept feeling like this place was more and more off. Scurrying back outside, Clyde breathed a sigh of relief when he heard the normal sounds of a town, the cars in the street, sirens in the distance, and people shouting at each other. They were like music to his ears after the eeriness he had just felt in there.
To add to the creep factor, Clyde looked back to see the window he had just used was now gone, a brick wall in it's place. "W-What the hell!? I'm getting the fuck out of here!" Clyde exclaimed as he ran out of the alleyway, already knowing which way his home was.
Once he arrived at his house, Clyde quickly shut the door and went to his room, setting his backpack on the floor. "Alright, let's see if there's any info I don't already know on this thing". Clyde said as he pulled out the parchment paper.
"Okay...control people with your heart's desire...too much can damage the mind, yada, yada...hmmm. No known limits to it's power, multiple commands and ways to break the control". Clyde read aloud as his eyes scanned the paper back and forth. "Well, doesn't seem like there's any command that won't work, so long as I word things properly I should be okay. Nothing about people it won't work on either". Clyde said as he set the paper down.
And with that in mind, Clyde started thinking on a way to get Lori alone with him so he can...show her the man he really is. The boy knew that she would be going off to college soon, so his time was limited, he had to act soon.
Maybe he could use that as an excuse to try and spend time with her. "Oh Lori, I'm going to miss you. Could we maybe grab lunch some time before you leave or just hang out for a bit. Before you head off to college?". Clyde imagine himself saying. "Yeah that should work perfectly, I'm not sure how far I'll take things...she is Lincoln's oldest sister after all, but then again...it's Lori". Clyde told himself.
But for now it'd have to wait. He didn't want to show up at the Loud House for Lori and end up coming off as suspicious. He'd need to find another way to do it, maybe over the weekend.
And as he laid on his bed, staring at the ceiling, Clyde smiled to himself at the thought of finally getting to at least go on a date with his crush, with the possibility for more.
Now that he has a better understanding of the amulet's power, Clyde will finally use it to get what his heart desires. Only time will tell whether things will all work out for him by the end or not. I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and I look forward to bringing you more. Until next time, see you all later, stay safe!
