Thank you to BethxAngel and rae626 for following the story.
The stack of unfinished paperwork seemed to be mocking him the longer he stares at them. Just a few minutes ago, one of his subordinates dropped by to let him know they were summoned again. He had a long list of things he needed to finish by the end of the month and being held back by another issue is his least favorite. Today was his schedule to finish all the Clan documents but to his dismay, unless he finds a way to cram everything, that is not possible. Defeated by time, he grabbed his haori then left his room.
He turned the last corridor leading to the exit of the mansion when he saw a familiar ivory dress by the lake. The person turned around to greet him when she felt him approaching.
"Kuchiki-sama!" she excitedly called out to him as she bowed then slowly walked to him. "I'm feeding the koi's, are you going out?" tilting her head to the side.
"Yes."
"Did you get to have lunch?" she stole a glimpse of his face when he started walking again. Kana has been helping with the meals for more than a week now.
"I did."
"If you're going to Seireitei, can I come?" taking another look at his face. It's no longer a secret to her that the stoic head of the house communicates better if you just know how to listen to his tone and observe his face.
"No." came his flat answer, but the girl still walked with him anyways mumbling about how she only read about the place from books and always wanted to see how it looks inside but not sure if civilians are allowed.
Surprising himself, he let the girl follow him pacing himself slowly to match hers.
"Neh, Kuchiki-sama, can you fly?" she was walking behind him looking around at the buildings and the Shinigami's in their uniforms when they entered the compound.
Amused by her curiosity, he is not one to deny her of information. "Not necessarily fly but jump using concentrated reishi." She made an understanding expression and ran her fingers on the wall. "That's just a normal wall." She withdrew her fingers blushing in embarrassment.
They've reached the entrance of the 6th division and he did not need to look at his guest to see her amused expression seeing the gate. They entered and immediately all eyes are on them. Some were confused as to why their captain would bring a girl into their barracks and who the girl is.
Renji who was waiting for their captain was the first one to approach them, his face ranged from confused to surprised when he saw someone following him. He has never seen his captain with any lady before that was not part of the military.
"Taichou, a research experiment escaped from the 12th Division." He quickly informed him as to why they were summoned, awkwardly glancing at the guest as she enthusiastically waves back at the crowd who were huddled in groups.
The girl is shorter than Rukia, her hair was braided on both sides with a few inches left to reach the ground and a handful of loose strands hanging from the front and the back. She wore an unconventional ruqun dress with the sleeves hanging on her shoulders and the square neckline shows a good amount of her bosom. Her delicate eyes caught his attention since it made her appear to be half asleep from his angle but was confirmed she wasn't when she also waved at him.
"She's so tiny!" a female squealed from the back.
"She's almost like a child omg…" another female voice answered.
"Not with a rack like that she isn't!"
The other side of the barracks hummed with soldiers thinking. "Oh! Oh! I get it! A moon child!"
"YES! You're right no wonder she looks familiar!" followed by the sound of clapping and high fives.
"A moon lady?"
"I wonder why the Taichou took her here…"
"Well... considering its Taichou where else would he take his fiancé for a date?" he heard a male whisper.
"Shhhh! Shhhh! Taichou might hear you!"
Byakuya could only sigh at how immature his subordinates can be. Renji on the other hand was sweat-dropping afraid that a comment might upset their captain.
"Taichou…" he unskillfully tried to ease the situation.
"What?" looking at Renji assuming he has more information to share.
"Nothing."
He turned his attention to the girl behind them that was inspecting a rouge flower by the side of the gravel. "Reshin-san-" he stopped after hearing a series of gasps and whispers.
The girl however quickly responded, "Uh, I'll be here Kuchiki-san don't worry about me I'll just look around."
He studied her a little then turned to leave.
"An experiment extracted from Syazel's laboratory escaped." Mayuri briefly informed. "It is weak from hibernation and it doesn't have any riatsu on its own unless it finds a source." He rolled his eyes on his fellow Captains. "Inform your squad but it's needless to say that only a child would lose control of its own riatsu."
"If it's that weak how did it escape?" Kyoraku ever so curious asked.
"It's easy if you have incompetent subordinates." He irritatedly answered him recalling how he almost released his Bankai inside his laboratory after hearing of the situation. "The Arrancar can hide its presence, I would presume." Back to his usual self. "It was in a tank at my lab and we just started doing our research on it."
The meeting took a couple of hours and the captains agreed that they will have a team to search the parameters of their barracks and send out teams outside as well.
Byakuya called in four members of his division and handed them a list. "Assemble your teams and start searching." He ordered and then left to find his guest.
He saw her with a group of Shinigami's playing with a wooden sword. He didn't need to call her when she waved them goodbye after they all bowed the moment they saw him.
"What happened to your hand?" he knew she tried to hide it.
She let out her embarrassed laugh. "I asked them to show me how to use a sword."
Silence.
"It's fine it doesn't hurt at all it's just kind of red." She panicked. "Are we going home?"
"No. Follow me." Turning his heel heading to the 4th division's quarters.
"Kuchiki Taichou, how can I help?" Unohana hid her surprise behind her smile, though well aware that it has to do with the girl that was following closely behind.
He looked at Kana to show her hand to the Captain in front of them. "I'd like you to assist with this."
Understanding right away who the unfamiliar female is, she took her hand to give it a quick look.
"Yare, yare." She frowned at the swelling wrist. "Come let's check it inside the clinic." As she led them to her consulting room.
"Move your fingers one by one." She asked her patient.
Kana did and winced with pain when she tried moving her middle and ring finger.
"You have a pinched nerve and you dislocated your wrist." She firmly looked at the girl. "I will need to physically restore your wrist and finish it with some kido ok?"
"What's a kido?" confused.
"It's a Shinigami healing spell."
"Why can't we just use that instead?"
"It will be better for you if we readjust your wrist first then heal it."
"But-"
"Just do it Unohana Taichou, she said it didn't hurt."
"But-" she looked from Unohana to Byakuya.
"Giving birth would be a lot more painful than this." The female Captain teased her. "Just don't look ok?"
She nodded and turned away brushing her head on Byakuya's arm to where she slowly pressed her head to hide. The male moved his hand to let her head land on his waist.
Unohana smiled at the simple gesture knowing that Byakuya won't let anyone get close to him like that unless it's his sister.
"I'll take you to my office and let you borrow one book."
"You promise?!" she excitedly explained and almost screamed in pain when Unohana twisted her wrist in place.
"I promise."
She slowly let go when she felt a warm calming energy on her hand. It was a yellow glow and she was stunned at how the redness and swelling slowly faded away. "Wow," she exclaimed as the pain slowly subsides.
Byakuya and Kana thanked the Captain then left.
"Who was that Taichou?" Kaname arrived from her search assignment.
"It's Kuchiki Taichou's friend." Walking back to her office as soon as they disappeared from her view.
"Oh! That's who the girls are talking about. His fiancé?"
Unohana smiled, "I don't see our 6th Division Captain marrying again Kaname, but he asked a fellow Captain to fix a sprained wrist that he can heal with his kido."
"Yo, Renji!" Ikkaku suddenly appeared behind Renji who was squatting on the ground. "What's this?"
They both stared at a Shinigami doing burpees in the middle of the squad ground.
"I'm watching the genius sword teacher." He wickedly smiled.
Confused, Ikkaku investigated the Shinigami. "To who?"
"The Taichou's girlfriend of course!" he got up and followed Ikkaku.
"She asked me to show her how to use a sword" The poor Shinigami explained. "So, I showed off a little."
"Huhhhh?" Still confused, Ikkaku straightened himself. "He broke her wrist, didn't he?"
