You Got A Deal

Kendra shut down her computer and went through her mail sitting on the desk. She was throwing away the junk she came across a postcard from Germany, confused she turned it over and read words,

Across the pond, thanks for your help doll, owe you one

JB

"Good for you James," Kendra whispered, smiling to herself as she opened the drawer next to her desk and threw the post card in with the rest of them. She stood up and went to her filing cabinet, opened the top drawer and grabbed the documents she needed to bring over to Tony. A knock at her door startled her, she turned to see Thor in her doorway.

"Thor, Jesus, you scared me." Kendra chuckled as she shut the cabinet drawer before walking back to her chair and sitting at her desk.

Thor smiled, walked into the room and took a seat across from her. "Sorry cousin, thought I could keep you company for a bit."

Kendra narrowed her eyes suspiciously, "Stark kicked you out of the lab didn't he?"

Thor shrugged casually, a not-so-innocent smirk appearing on his face, "My presence may have ended with some glass being broken, he should invest in building better equipment."

Kendra laughed, "Or maybe you shouldn't be bothering them, you can trust Tony and Banner with that thing. Besides, I am about to make my way down there anyway, I'll make sure they don't get into trouble." She began to fill out some paperwork, "Not like they are going to use it to build an army or anything." Thor lost his smirk and Kendra paused and looked up. "That would take too long." She said with a deadpan face.

Thor finally caught on and smirked again before laughing, "Cousin you know how to rile me up."

She just shrugged and continued writing, "Well my humor is my best weapon."

Thor chuckled, "You are right about that. Now tell me cousin, how is the training? Is your control better? You haven't blown anyone up have you?"

Kendra chuckled, "It's fine, control is getting better, control is worse when I am mad. I messed up a guy pretty bad when I accidentally snapped his arm by manipulating his blood. So pretty normal. The fire thing is kinda cool." She snapped her fingers and a flame shot out of her fingers. She let it linger a moment before extinguishing it "As you can see this mastering thing gets better and better. I thought my elements were just the basics from earth but turns out, there is a ton more. I moved metal the other day. Tossed Tony's helmet clear across the room. He was not pleased at all. "

"I wish I could bring you back to Asgard where you could properly train, these humans don't have-"

"Hey-" She stopped him, "These humans have done a lot. Yes, your home probably is more accustomed to this kind of thing… but… this is my home. My people."

Thor reached over to squeeze her hand meaningfully, "Forgive me cousin, I just want the best for you."

"I know you, and I appreciate you. Now, let's get down to real business before I bust out of here." She shut the file in front of her and sat back in her chair, "How's Jane? Things are going well?"

Thor nodded, "Jane is very well. I will stop by to see her before I leave. She is saddened she can't come to revel with us."

"Well," Kendra noted, "She is one of the most sought out astronomers of her time right now. With the whole convergence thing."

Thor smiled proudly,"That she is."

Kendra walked down the steps to the lab and pressed her code into the door, as it slid open she walked into the lab only to overhear Tony and Bruce having a heated discussion.

"...We can only do it while we have the scepter here, that's three days, give me three days." Tony pleaded.

Bruce shook his head, "So you're going for artificial intelligence and you don't want to tell the team."

Kendra slammed her files on the table, catching both of their attention, "You want to what?" She exclaimed, a bit more shrill than she had intended.

Tony stood his ground, "That's right Kendra, you know why, because we don't have time for a city hall debate. I don't want to hear the "man was not meant to meddle" medley. I see a suit of armor around the world."

Kendra narrowed her eyes, "Sounds like a cold world, Tony."

Tony shrugged, "I've seen colder. This one, this very vulnerable blue one? It needs Ultron. Peace in our time. Imagine that."

"Ultron?" Kendra questioned walking forward staring at the code in front of her, her eyes deceiving her, "You said Ultron wasn't possible we couldn't-"

"Well now we can," Tony snapped, she turned to look at him, "This gem holds the key." He stated confidently, "We would fool ourselves to at least not investigate what we could do. If we could have peace and not have to worry about the fate of the world so much, wouldn't you sleep better? And not just us, Steve, Nat, all of us."

The thought of global peace was definitely appealing, but Kendra wasn't convinced. She turned to Bruce, "Bruce?"

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, "How about this. We cover the bases of the program and if we can't get it sorted in 3 days. We file it and move on."

Kendra bit her cheek but nodded, Tony stuck his hand out to Bruce, "You got a deal."

"Jesus, what are you blind," Steve muttered to himself. Kendra smiled to herself. The Yankees just got caught swinging for a 3rd out. She snuggled closer to him, resting on his chest as they were stretched out on the couch. Beers and pizza boxes on the coffee table long forgotten. Steve tucked her in closer, "That was a terrible call, he barely swung."

Kendra looked up at her boyfriend, "I clearly saw that bat go over the plate, so he isn't so blind. Maybe you have old eyes."

Steve just shook his head, then his arm around Kendra pulled her closer and squeezed. She went back to watching TV. Relaxing in Steve's arms, her legs tangled with his, she let out a very content sigh. It felt nice.

Steve picked up the remote and turned the tv down, "Rough day at the office peaches?"

Kendra shrugged, "Just you know, lab stuff. Not everyday you get to work on an alien scepter, at least I hope that's not normal." She comments wryly.

"Anything we should worry about?" Steve asked, voice laced with concern.

Kendra lighted her head up again and looked Steve in the eyes,"You mean besides the fact we have a mind control scepter in our lab to begin with? Na, nothing going on down there we have to worry about." Steve smiled, squeezed her and pulled her forward to kiss the top of her head.

"Good."

Kendra went back to snuggling with Steve. It dawned on her that after a busy day, this was just what she needed. A beer, pizza from the deli down the street and America's pastime with her favorite guy.

Tony, Bruce and Kendra spend the next 3 days working in the lab together but find no program that works. While Kendra sat at her desk, plotting in data analysis and code that led to nothing. Tony stood frustrated in front of his screen, baffled by what they could be missing. "What did we miss?" Tony asked out loud.

"Look, I know after everything with Extremis, and with Pepper you want this to work." She said softly, "Maybe this time, we aren't supposed to figure it out." Kendra muttered as she began closing down the program at her station and could only shrug while JARVIS spoke.

"I'll continue to run variations on the interface, but you should both probably prepare for the guests. I'll notify Mr. Stark if there are any developments."

Tony nodded, "Thanks, buddy."

"Enjoy yourself, sir and Ms. Andrews"

Tony smirked to Kendra, "We always do." Placing his hand on the mid section of her back, Tony escorted Kendra out of the room. As they leave the lab to go to the party, the door closes and the computer beeps. Stark's failed experiment begins integrating itself successfully to the program.

Dressed to the nine in her little black dress and red pumps, hair down with her natural blonde curls, Kendra walked down the stairs to the party. She noticed Steve by the pool table with Sam and company. They were trying to contain their laughter at something one of the veterans had said. She smirked and stepped down to walk over to them.

"Hey boys, what I miss." She amused, wrapping her arms around Steve's waist. He gave her a once over and pressed a hand into her back.

"That's a nice dress peaches, don't remember seeing it before."

Kendra smiled and leaned back to look at him, "This old thing? You must've missed it. Old eyes and all."

Steve smirked and gave her a quick, but hard kiss. Kendra patted him on the chest, "I'm gonna get a drink and find Nat," She turned to the boys, "Enjoy your evening gentleman." With a wink, she slipped out of her boyfriend's embrace and headed over to the bar.

Sam walked over holding his beer. "Looks like you and the misses are doing just fine."

Steve nodded and took a swig of his beer, "We have more good days than bad, the bad we work it out." He looked at Sam, "I'm happy."

Sam gave him a friendly punch to the arm, "It looks good on you. Have you guys found a place in Brooklyn yet?"

Steve shook his head, " I don't think we could even afford a place in Brooklyn. We are staying in the tower right now. Not ideal, Kendra works too much but it's free."

Sam patted him on the back, "Well, home is home you know? Now, let's show these old farts how the game really works."

Leaning back against the couch Kendra crossed her legs listening to Nat ramble on. Rhodey sat silently beside her.

Nat learned forward and placed her drink on the table, "I'm just saying Kendra, I know you two are in your honeymoon phase right now. The whole living together and saving the world thing must be hot, but it's not gonna last forever. Especially if you are staying at Starks."

"Good!" Kendra exclaimed, "I hope it doesn't. And we live in a skyscraper, we have enough privacy thank you. Also, one last thing," She leaned forward, "for the record, I'm not out there saving the world, that's a job for the Avengers." She tilted her drink towards Nat before taking a sip. Natasha narrowed her eyes.

"You know you are part of this team as much as the rest of us." Nat's eyes shifted to the body next to Kendra, "You too Rhodey."

Kendra swallowed her sip and shook her head pushing herself up, "Oh no, see you," She pointed to Natasha, "You my dear Black Widow, you are an Avenger. Me," She pointed to herself, "And Rhodey," Whom she then pointed too. "We are contracted by the government to fulfill duties needed by us and clean your messes."

Rhodey brought his beer forward to clink Kendra's glass, "And we do a damn good job doing it."

Kendra pressed her lips together and nodded, "Damn straight,"

Natasha rolled her eyes, "You guys are ridiculous, all semantics anyway."

Kendra smiled and put her glass on the table, "If you want to talk semantics, what's going on with you and Banner?"

Without saying a word, Natasha stood up from the couch and walked over to the bar. Kendra looked over to Rhodey, "Was it something I said?"
