Note: When it is only a scene with Gojou and Asami, then I will refer to him as "Satoru", but when it's a scene with the rest of the students and/or other people I will refer to him as Gojou as I'm just way too used to it LOL. Also, this is taken place right after Nobara's introduction/the first field test :)
Prologue.
metanoia (n.) the journey of changing one's mind, heart, self, or way of life.
"Gosh, I'm full," Nobara pats her stomach, the food Gojou had bought them in honor of exorcising their first Tokyo curse, having filled both she and Yuuji up. Megumi, on the other hand, didn't seem to have much of an appetite today, as his plate still had remnants of his food.
"Tell me about it," Yuuji dramatically sighs, feeling as if his stomach was going to explode, "I was really hoping to go to the movie theatre later tonight, but I think I might just go home and sleep instead," he chuckles, slightly disappointed at his change in plans.
"What movie were you going to watch?" Nobara asks with genuine curiosity.
"To Catch a Dream!" Yuuji, who'd been wanting to watch the recently premiered movie for quite some time now, enthusiastically announces.
As a result, Nobara's face twists in confusion, but before she could bother saying anything, Megumi beats her to it.
"Didn't take you as someone who liked corny romance movies," he scoffs, having occasionally come across the trailer himself whenever he was on Youtube. Not that he watched it for its entirety or anything…
Scratching the back of his neck, a faint blush appears on Yuuji's cheeks, "Well to be honest, I don't, but one of my new favorite up and coming actresses appears in it and—"
Nobara rolls her eyes before interrupting him, "Oh, you're one of those dudes."
Quick to go on the defensive, Yuuji's cheeks immediately become a darker shade of pink, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You know exactly what I mean! Don't act all dense!" Nobara yells, raising a fist at Yuuji.
Quietly sighing to himself, Megumi watches his two new classmates comically bicker with one another, wondering where the hell their sensei had gone, 'I wouldn't be surprised if some waitress was flirting with him right—'
Speak of the devil.
Gojou, out of nowhere, slams the receipt of their meal onto the table with a cheesy grin on his face, "Now that you've all finished your meals and are re-energized, you three are going somewhere with me," he announces, causing all three of his students to quickly raise an eyebrow.
Nobara is the first to ask, "Which is where….." because if she was being completely honest, she was ready to go home and sleep!
"Hmm, I think I'm going to keep it as a surprise for now," he mischievously grins.
As a result, both Nobara and Megumi narrow their eyes in suspicion.
Yuuji, on the other hand, was the only one who seemed enthusiastic, as he was the first to get up from his seat.
"And how do we know it's not just another," Nobara makes air quotations with her fingers, "Tour of Tokyo," she huffs, too tired to fight another curse.
Chuckling, Gojou shakes his head, "Nothing to do with curses, I promise. We're just visiting an old… friend…." he nervously chuckles, now scratching the back of his neck.
Glancing at the wall clock, he sees that it's getting late, "Come on, we need to get going. If not, who knows when the opportunity will come again."
And so with that, the three students are quick to follow him, seeing that they didn't really have much of a choice. The last question asked by Yuuji being, "So, who's this friend of yours?"
"Shochiku Movie Studios," the three teens simultaneously say in shock, several questions now running through their minds, as they begin to ask themselves who exactly this friend of Gojou's was.
"This is one of Japan's biggest film companies!" Nobara exclaims, no longer complaining about their long walk.
"If not the!" Yuuji adds, clearly excited for what was to come, and who he could possibly meet.
"Who the hell do you know that works here?" Megumi asks, following closely behind the three, as they were now making their way towards the entrance of the building.
"You'll see, you'll see," Gojou teases them, feeling the excitement that was radiating off of them.
"Hello, welcome to Shochiku Movie Studios, how can I help you today?" the front desk receptionist greets the group of shamans with a robotic tone, along with a smile that screams misery. To say she hated her job would be an understatement.
Noticing the lopsided grins on three of their faces, the woman feels the corners of her lips slightly twitch. Internally sighing, she mentally prepares her, "We do not allow fans to meet the cast members of any movie, for any reason," speech, already accustomed to having borderline obsessed fans constantly coming in, and asking to meet their favorite actors.
"I'm here to meet with a friend," Gojou announces, giving the woman a flirty wink.
And after a couple of seconds of silence, the three teens who were standing behind the tall man, facepalm themselves. That's because by now, the woman was laughing in their faces, clearly immune to their sensei's natural "charm".
"Oh, like I haven't heard that one before," she stifles her laughter with a hand, revealing a sparkly wedding ring.
'Darn,' Gojou internally snaps his fingers before pouting, "I'm being serious!" he says.
"Mmhmm yeah," she begins to dial for security, "We do not allow fans—"
"I'm not a fan," Gojou quickly interrupts her, "I promise," he adds, giving the woman a nervous smile.
Scoffing, she rolls her eyes, "And may I ask who this friend is?"
Gulping, Gojou finds himself hesitating for a moment, as he knew his students' ears were itching for a name.
He sighs before continuing, "Okada Asami."
"Okada Asami?!"
Tying the strings to her silk kimono-style robe, Asami sighs as she plops into her fancy makeup chair, ready to wrap up shooting for the day. As of now, she only had one more scene to film. From there, she could finally go home. Something she was definitely looking forward to.
"Okada-san," one of the many makeup artists Asami sees on a daily basis, makes their presence known, signalling to her that they were going to begin working on her face soon.
Asami, already used to it, simply mumbles something inaudible in return, too tired to really say anything.
Gently shutting her eyes, she begins to feel the patting of a beauty blender on her face, finding the feeling to be somewhat relaxing. Of course, that feeling of relaxation was soon interrupted by a knock on the door. A sign that someone was here to bother her with God knows what.
"O-okada-san—" Asami's shy assistant, Rin, timidly enters the dressing room.
"Mm," Asami quietly mumbles, feeling as if she was going to fall asleep at any second.
"T-there seems to be someone at the lobby claiming to have a meeting with you…" Rin practically whispers, and in a peeved manner, Asami opens her eyes.
"Rin, what day is it?" she asks with a soft, but deadly tone.
Rin responds, "It's um… the 18th of June…"
Feigning a chuckle, Asami subtly clenches her jaw, "If my memories serve me correctly, I don't recall seeing an appointment for a meeting today, let alone at this time."
"I-I know."
"So then if I may ask, who in the hell is—" but before Asami could even finish her question, she feels something harshly poke her in the eye, her makeup artist having carelessly poked at it with a mascara wand.
This, along with her prior bubbling annoyance, causes the pot to finally boil over. Getting up from her seat, she lashes out at the makeup artist, "How many times do I have to tell you not to do that when I'm talking!" she yells at the man, pupils now dilated in anger.
Feeling a chill run down her spine, Rin silently stares at the scene in front of her, reminded of just how fearsome the woman could be when angered.
"I—I'm sorry Okada-san, it won't happen again, I promise," the makeup artist stutters, clearly in a state of panic.
"Just leave," she bitterly commands at him, not bothering to spare him a glance as she removes the smeared mascara off her face.
Biting her lip, Rin watches the man quietly pack his stuff, both of them knowing that they were better off saying nothing. Awkwardly stepping to the side, she offers him a genuine look of sympathy as he walks toward the door, dreading what was to come from Asami. That is until...
"Wait!" Asami suddenly shouts out of nowhere, stopping the man who was currently mid-way out the door.
And for a small moment, she stares at him in silence, the atmosphere in the room becoming extremely tense.
Soon, her furrowed eyebrows relax, and she begins to avoid eye contact like a child, "I'm…" she hesitates to continue, "I'm sorry," she stubbornly mumbles out, taking both the makeup artist and Rin by complete surprise.
"In fact, you can um… you can take tomorrow off, actually take the whole week off. I'll even give you a tiny bonus," she adds, and almost immediately, the sad look on the man's face becomes one of complete happiness and joy.
Unsure of whether to believe her or not, he hesitates to leave until Asami forces herself to plaster an awkward smile onto her face, "Well, get going," she says, and with that, the man practically runs out the room, nothing but pure joy radiating off of him.
Rubbing her temple, the young woman sighs before mumbling a quiet, "That's one future curse prevented," to herself. That's because albeit big or small, Asami still wanted to do whatever she could to prevent a potential curse from forming, especially one that came from her own behavior. It was just in her nature.
"So, who was it that was waiting for me in the lobby?" Asami turns her attention back to Rin, remembering that her question had gone unanswered.
"Ah, his name is um Go-jou Sa-toru?" Rin struggles to pronounce the name.
Meanwhile, Asami feels her eyes bulge out of their sockets, "Gojou Satoru?" she repeats his name, as if to confirm she wasn't hearing things.
"Y-Yes, do I tell the receptionists to let him through?"
Asami immediately shakes her head no, slamming a hand onto the table, "You tell that receptionist that if she even thinks of letting him up, I'll have her head on a stick by tomorrow morning!"
Rin obediently nods, visualizing the flames of anger around her, "If you don't mind me asking Okada-san, who exactly is he?"
Asami sighs, "He's my—"
And before Asami could even complete the sentence, out of thin air, four bodies appear in the room, a harsh landing causing them to stumble with their footing.
"Ex."
Fanning Rin with a folded piece of paper, it seemed that the young woman had passed out from mere shock, something Asami couldn't blame her for. To see not only one, but four, strangers appear out of thin air had to be … mind-blowing... to say the least.
"Okada Asami is your ex?!" the three kids who were with him scream out loud, "What doesn't Gojou-sensei have!" Asami hears two of them dramatically announce.
Turning her attention to the intruders, Asami glares at the one she recognizes, ignoring the heart eyes she was receiving from one, "So I see ignoring your calls and texts wasn't enough to get the message across, Gojou," she grits her teeth.
Chuckling, he shakes his head, "Ahh, you know it'll always be Satoru for you," he playfully teases her, still the confident man he always was.
As a result, she rolls her eyes, "What do you want?" she crosses her arms, wanting to cut to the chase.
"You're not even going to ask how we got here?"
"I'm not an idiot Gojou, it's pretty clear how," she says, no stranger to his teleportation technique. Turning her attention to the kids behind him, Asami carefully studies each one of them up and down, taking note of the one who was clearly starstruck, "I just don't see why you felt the need to bring some students from Jujutsu High here…"
Casually shrugging, Gojou smirks, "I just wanted to show them how one of Japan's up and coming actresses was once a famous jujutsu sorcerer…."
And it's at this statement, that his students' jaws fall to the floor.
"Okada Asami, who was not only your ex, was also once a jujutsu sorcerer?!" the three of them simultaneously ask, not sure at how many more surprises they could take today. If it continued going at the rate it was, their sentence would probably be a paragraph by the end of the night.
An awkward silence follows, before the boy who had been giving Asami the googly eyes finally musters up the courage to say something, "I-I love your performance in 2105: Plague, the one with the zombies and you go—" he begins to mimic the gun she holds in the movie, along with its lazer sounds, making his two classmates go red in embarrassment.
"I know which one," Asami says with a small, awkward smile on her face.
"I was even going to watch To Catch A Dream tonight!" he enthusiastically announces, causing Asami, who for the most part always maintained a stoic personality, to let out a very soft chuckle.
This boy was definitely … something.
Realizing that she was getting distracted, Asami quickly steers the topic of the conversation back to its original point, "Gojou—"
"Satoru," he corrects her, only making her sigh.
"What do you want?" she repeats her question from earlier.
"Welllll…." he sings, "I know this acting career of yours is taking off," he nervously laughs, "but I think I have an even better career for you…." he begins to build the anticipation, "Yuuji-kun, drum roll please!"
Yuuji, like the kind child he is, begins to tap on the table next to him, going along with his sensei's antics.
"A teacher at the esteemed, one and only, Tokyo Jujutsu High!" he flashes her two thumbs up, despite the obvious scowl on her face. Of course, he was still the same old Gojou.
"N—"
Gojou quickly interrupts her before she can utter the two letter word, placing an arm around his students' shoulders, "Just look at them Asami, these poor students need a good teacher," he nudges at them, signalling to them that they needed to begin doing the puppy dog eyes. In the end, only two of the students follow suit.
'Ah, so this is why he brought them,' Asami shakes her head before turning her attention to the dark haired boy, who was currently giving her an apologetic look. It was almost as if he was trying to say, "Sorry you have to deal with this." Clearly, he wasn't a big fan of their silly antics.
Narrowing her eyes, Asami takes a closer look at the boy's appearance. For some odd reason, there was something about him that almost seemed… familiar … in a sense. She just couldn't put her finger on it.
Shrugging off the thought, she quickly turns away before bluntly stating, "No."
She also begins to grab her things, effectively crushing the hopes of the people in front of her.
"But whyyyy," Gojou groans, despite already knowing the exact reasons for her rejection.
Debating whether to continue entertaining their childish conversation, Asami exhales deeply, "If you really think I'm going to quit my career, which probably pays much higher than whatever that sleazy school plans on giving me, along with putting my own life on the line, then clearly you don't know me well enough."
"But Asami—"
"No!" she repeats her decision, frustration now evident in her voice, "Since you don't want to listen to me then," she suddenly points at the kids, "Tell your sensei to stop bothering me," she harshly commands them.
"Asami—"
The young woman raises a single finger at her ex, as if to say, "Be quiet."
From there, she begins to dig through her bag, pulling out what appears to be a movie ticket, "And here, a voucher for the movie," she hands the flimsy piece of paper to Yuuji, putting her annoyance to the side.
Trying his best not to fanboy, Yuuji frantically thanks her, "T-Thank you, Okada-s—"
"Don't mention it," she nonchalantly says before slamming the door behind her, leaving the four shamans by themselves in her dressing room, awkward silence then filling the room. That was until …
"Hahahaha," Gojou throws his head back in laughter, "Ah, she's still the same old Asami. Just as stubborn as ever," he says, always up for a challenge.
The Next Day…
Asami was mad. No, not mad … livid. But she wasn't going to show it, not in front of her colleagues at least. Placing her fingers to her temple, she mutters a string of curses to herself.
"Only Satoru," she whispers, staring at the custom-made cake which had his grinning face on it, along with an obnoxious thumbs up.
"B-But—" a pale Rin stutters beside Asami, "I-I thought—" she suddenly falls to the floor.
'Damn it,' Asami internally groans, having convinced Rin that what she saw the prior night was nothing more than a figment of her own imagination. Sadly, this idiot's cake confirmed that what she saw was in fact very much real.
With the staff now surrounding a passed out Rin, Asami clenches her fist when she spots a delivery man with flowers in his hands.
This was going to be a very long week. A long week indeed.
"I don't want to die! Please! I just want my mommy! Please! I don't want to die!"
"I-I'm sorry."
Feeling as if she was suffocating, Asami jolts up in a cold sweat, her hands tightly gripping onto the bed sheets. Panting for breath, she frantically looks around, wanting to confirm that it was nothing but a …. bad dream.
Once she does, she immediately gets up from her bed and heads toward the bathroom, deciding that perhaps all she needed was a cold splash of water to the face.
Turning on the faucet, she tries her best to push away any intrusive thoughts, "Damn him," she mutters. Why the hell was he bothering her now? Especially now that her career was finally managing to take off. But she couldn't complain, could she?
Because no matter how much she wanted to escape the hellish world of sorcerers and curses, no matter how much she's tried convincing herself over the years that she didn't belong in it, no matter how much she craved for a peaceful future with the one she once loved, the cruelty of the world just wouldn't let her have it. And that made her sick.
Grabbing her phone from the bed stand, Asami re-reads the long list of text messages he had been sending her throughout the past couple of days. The man truly didn't know how to give up. Not like she could blame him, he was simply too used to getting his own way all the time.
The one that made her roll her eyes the most was the one that read…
"Soo when you come back, I was thinking you could be a science teacher :D I see you more as an algebra teacher, BUT we can always try physical education if you're up for it ;)"
'Leave it to Satoru to be as confident as ever,' she thinks to herself. With her finger hovering over the call button, she ultimately chickens out in calling him. That's because calling him would mean he'd won, and she just wasn't in the mood to hear his teasing.
Instead, she quickly gets ready, deciding that maybe a good night drive would clear her mind, as Asami loved driving. It was weird really. Even when her assistant would offer to drive her to locations, she would always outright say no. Driving was just her thing. Driving was her way of being … normal.
Tapping her fingers against the steering wheel, Asami drives with no clear destination in mind.
Relishing the breath of fresh air, Asami softly smiles as she rests her left arm against the lowered window, deciding that this was enough for her to remain at peace. That was until she noticed where exactly she had driven to.
Some things truly never change.
Setting the car into park, Asami takes a deep breath before stepping out of the car. Above her, the stars which were scattered all across the midnight-blue sky, shine bright.
'I can't believe it's still here,' she runs a hand along the rough edges of the old wooden bench in front of her. A swinging bench she used to always sit on years ago, back when she was a student at Jujutsu High.
Sitting down, Asami silently admires the blooming flowers that surround her before slowly pulling out a pack of cigarettes from her pocket. Flicking her lighter, Asami places one of the sticks in between her lips, immediately feeling the sense of relaxation wash over her, as she exhales her first drag.
'Ah, so this is what I needed,' she thinks to herself, grazing her finger against the petal of a flower.
Silence.
"That lollipop trick you taught me could only last for so long," she says out of nowhere, and to any other person, they'd think she was crazy, as it looked as if she was talking to herself. But she knew better.
Soon, she feels the presence of someone sitting next to her. Of course not just anyone, but Satoru himself.
"I'm not worried, I'll get you to quit again once you return," he softly chuckles, "Which I assume you are, considering you're here."
His words make her scoff, "You know me, I've always had a knack for nice sights. And as much as I've grown to hate this place, even I can't deny that this place truly is …" she pauses, "beautiful."
Taking a second drag, this time the hit causes her to cough a bit.
From there, a silence follows, the two simply staring at the view in front of them. In a way, it was … nice. A reminder that sometimes words didn't need to be spoken in order for them to understand one another.
"Why?" she asks out of nowhere, expanding on the question soon after the simple word escapes from her lips, "For you to be bothering me this much after several years must mean you're either extremely desperate or," she lets out a bitter scoff, shaking her head in the process, "like I said, you must be very desperate."
To that he laughs, "Don't insult yourself like that."
Asami rolls her eyes.
"The boy who was giving you the googly eyes..." Satoru suddenly mentions Yuuji.
Immediately, Asami recalls the boy's appearance, his salmon colored hair making him very distinguishable.
"...He swallowed one of Sukuna's fingers," Satoru states, causing her eyes to momentarily widen before quickly returning to their usual narrowed appearance.
A scowl then appears on her face, "Then shouldn't he be dead? No way in hell would those old geezers let him live."
Satoru shrugs, a confident smile on his face, "I pulled a couple of strings."
Rolling her eyes once more, she feigns a laugh, "As long as you've got those eyes, they'll forever have to cower in fear. But you know the higher ups, like the rats they are, they'll weasel their way into getting what they want," she says, and Satoru's silence only confirms to her that he agreed.
"His execution was only postponed, but you're right, like the rats they are, they'll find a way to get what they want. It's for that reason that I need you to come back to Jujutsu High, Asami. Knowing them, they'll purposely have me super busy, and I need someone to fill in for me while I'm gone."
She remains silent.
"I just need someone to watch over him, just until he becomes strong enough to fend for himself," he adds, his demeanor having gone from playful to serious.
It was something that always amazed Asami. How he could go from the playful Gojou Satoru everyone knew and (for the most part) loved, to doing a complete 180 change, "Don't act like you don't understand the situation he's in…"
This makes her laugh, "Oh I know. I bet those elders still want my head on a stick, but after all those attempts to get me killed, I guess they realized that this dog bites back," she says, recalling the countless number of times that they had attempted to have her killed when she first left the world of sorcery. That was of course until she told them that…
"You do realize I'm no use to you," she suddenly says, taking another drag of her cigarette.
To this, he raises an eyebrow.
"Don't act dumb Satoru, like the higher ups didn't tell you."
"So it's true?" he simply asks.
"For the most part, yes." she responds, crushing the butt of her cigarette with her foot.
He shakes his head, "That doesn't matter, I don't plan on putting you in any situation that requires such … drastic... measures. At least I hope not," he chuckles.
The sound of crickets chirping then fills the air.
"I don't get it…"
Satoru turns his gaze towards her, waiting for her to continue.
"You're," she pauses, wanting to find the right words, "You're not the teaching type…. So then why in the hell are you a teacher?"
He gives her a smile, "Because Asami, I have a dream, don't you remember?"
Her mouth slightly gapes in surprise. Of course he was still chasing after something so … unattainable. That was Gojou Satoru for you.
She scoffs, "Someone we once knew had an unattainable dream, and look where that got him," she says, remembering the message she received from Shoko after years of almost zero communication, only to tell her the fate of their former friend, "You know, sometimes I understand why he did it, and in a sense I don't think he was wrong for it. We jujutsu sorcerers are nothing more than spokes on an endless wheel of death."
"Yeah well he wanted to destroy the wheel, I want to reset and reform it. And education is the only way to do it. So what do you say Asami? Let's reset this crappy jujutsu world together," Satoru smiles.
And at his words, Asami could only stare at him in shock, her heart now racing like it once did back when she was nothing but a measly teenager. Turning away, she wishes she hadn't thrown her cigarette away.
"Tch, fine," she says, "but don't go expecting not to hear any complaints about the change in salary!" she mentions to him, which only makes him laugh, "and you also better come up with a good enough excuse to give my small group of fanboys on why I suddenly went off the radar."
"Asami, I'm offended that you don't think I already had something planned. I mean it's a good thing you were barely on your way to fame, I just feel bad for that assistant of yours," he mentions Rin, causing the freckled, doe-eyed woman to appear in Asami's mind.
She sighs.
"I—" she hesitates, thinking about the eventual clearance of her bank account, "I think I have it covered."
"Yuuji, give me a drumroll please!" Gojou enters the classroom filled with only three students, a giant smile now on his face, "After an entire week of endless begging, I can finally introduce you all to your brand new health teacher…" he pauses to add anticipation, "Say hello to Ms. Okada Asami!"
Asami enters the classroom with a nonchalant look on her face, finding Gojou's introduction to be a little too dramatic for her liking. Meanwhile, the students are quick to bow to her, while she does the same in return, surprisingly offering her hand to each one of them.
"I apologize for the lack of introduction last time," she awkwardly says, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks, "I was a little too caught up in other things," and immediately everyone's attention turns to Gojou himself, who currently had an idiotic grin on his face.
"Itadori Yuuji," Sukuna's vessel introduces himself, a giant smile plastered onto his face. Clearly, he was excited.
"Kugisaki Nobara," the only girl in the group, introduces herself with a proud smile on her face, something which in Asami's opinion, spoke volumes of her character.
'Nice.' Asami thinks to herself, as she liked people like Nobara.
And it's at the last introduction, that Asami swore she felt her soul leave her body for a moment.
"Fushiguro Megumi."
"Why are you following me?" the little boy asks with a frown on his face, shocking a teenage Asami who could've sworn she was being inconspicuous.
Realizing she had been shaking his hand and staring at him for quite some time, Asami abruptly pulls her hand away, embarrassed by her own behavior. From there, she turns to Gojou, as if to confirm if what she heard was correct.
'So he really did end up helping that kid out,' she thinks to herself.
Making her way back to the front, Asami adjusts her skirt, as this was her first time wearing one of these in years. Like Nobara, she wore one of the navy blue skirts the school offered, along with the same sheer-black stockings. But rather than wear the cropped jacket, all she had was the white blouse tucked into the skirt.
Considering she was faculty, she couldn't resemble the students too much. To go with the outfit, she wore black flats, a small leather watch for professionalism, and a pair of ruby red earrings that a certain someone gifted her a long time ago. But that was a story for another day.
"So what are you teaching on your first day Asami?" Gojou eagerly asks her, bringing the spotlight onto him, "Nutrition? Personal Care? Substance Abuse? Reproduction? You know, the birds and the bees..." And at that last one, he playfully lifts his eyebrows up and down, causing everyone to roll their eyes.
Asami "playfully" tugs his hair a little too hard, causing him to yelp in pain, "You're a grown man acting like a kid," she scolds him, "Now shoo," she pushes him out the door, but luckily, he manages to yell out his final parting words.
"Have fun, you guys! And don't fall for Asami's mean girl act, as she's a very—"
She slams the door shut.
With the room now in complete utter silence, the students' feel a chill run down their spines when they see the intense scowl on the woman's face.
Closing her eyes, Asami lets out a deep breath, unsure of where to even begin.
Yuuji is the first to speak, "Okada-sensei—"
Asami raises a finger as a way to interrupt him, "Asami, just call me Asami. No need for such formalities," she sighs, "At least not with me," and to that they all hesitantly nod, "But if you feel uncomfortable with that, well then you can always just add sensei after the Asami. It's up to you," she shrugs.
Writing her name on the board with chalk, she writes out the first lesson of the day.
In big letters, the word "INTRODUCTIONS" can be read.
Sitting down on the teacher's stool, she coughs to clear her throat.
"So…" she glances at the three high schoolers, avoiding direct eye contact. God, was she an awkward woman.
'So, this is the so-called future Gojou's been rambling on about. Tch, it could be worse.' she thinks to herself, reminding herself that she had yet to meet the second year students on campus.
"I know when I was in high school, I hated when the teacher taught on their first day, so... I thought why not have a day of introductions. Gojou was telling me that you three are all sorta new to one another as well, so I guess this would be the perfect opportunity to get to know each other like regular people do… No curses, no ranking, no jujutsu."
They all nod in agreement, and Asami's unsure if it's because she's their teacher and they technically have to agree, or if it's because they genuinely wanted to get to know one another.
"Okay so… how about …." she taps her fingers against the wooden podium, trying to think of a good idea, "...you guys can ask me ANY question you'd like, but in return, I get to ask you a question of my own?"
They silently nod again, except this time, Yuuji and Nobara are quick to raise their hands, eager to ask a question.
"I'll start with you … Kugi—" Asami struggles to remember the young girl's last name.
"Nobara," the orange-haired girl says, deciding she was fine with informalities as well.
"Nobara," Asami repeats, drilling the head in her name.
"Why are you and Gojou-sensei exes?" she confidently asks, catching everyone, including Asami, by surprise.
Everyone's eyes go wide at the straightforward question, Asami's face now beet red, "Any question, but that one!" she sternly says, embarrassed at the fact that she was blushing like a freaking schoolgirl, "Tch, next question. You!" she points at Yuuji, who seemed eager to ask his question.
"Is there going to be a part 2 to 2105: Plague?" he pulls something out the desk, in what seemed to be a DVD copy of one of Asami's (what she considered a flop) movie, "Also do you think you can um—" he stutters, "sign this for me?" and Asami could've sworn she saw little twinkles in his eyes.
'Well it could be worse….' she thinks to herself, recalling the things she'd been asked in the past to sign before….
Pulling out a sharpie, she quickly signs the straight-to-DVD movie while answering his question, "Well considering I might be doing this teaching thing for the long run, no, I don't think there will be," and to that Yuuji frowns, but smiles once she hands him the DVD back.
"Is there any way you can get me to meet Jennifer Lawrence?" he asks out of nowhere, and it's at this question, that Asami can't help but let out a genuine laugh. But it's once she does, that a memory once thought to be forgotten by Megumi, is triggered.
"Hahahaha I'm sorry, I'm a crying mess, a-and you're just a kid. I-I'll get going now, but—"
Megumi furrows his brows, 'Huh?' he blinks in surprise, recognizing Asami's laugh to be similar to that of the woman from years ago. But for some odd reason, he just couldn't exactly put her face to the voice, as everything was still a bit of a blur. Deciding to look into it later, he ultimately pushes the thought off, now focused on hearing Asami's response to Yuuji's idiotic question.
"Yuuji-kun, I'm not as famous as you think I am," she softly chuckles, "If I could, I would," and it's at that moment, that the three student's remember Gojou's words before leaving.
"And don't fall for Asami's mean girl act, as she's a very…."
Kind person. Asami Okada is a kind person.
And as the questions begin to go back and forth between her and the students, Asami slowly begins to understand why Gojou saw education as the gateway to a so-called "better" future for the world of jujutsu.
But at the end of the day they were still kids. Kids who, despite their young age, were carrying the burdens and responsibilities of an adult.
It was wrong.
Watching the three teens interact, Asami feels the corner of her lips gently curl upward, reminded of the days where she and her old classmates were sitting in those exact same seats, oblivious to what the world was going to throw at them.
And so it was in that moment that Asami vowed to herself that she'd do whatever she could, with the limited power she had, to help them along their journey, wanting nothing more than for them to have their happy ending. Because God knows, she would've wanted hers.
A/N: And that's chapter one folks ! I'm really excited to dive into Asami's character, as I think a lot you guys will like her (hopefully), and you'll all soon realize that she isn't at all a mean a person haha. But what I'm most definitely looking forward to is writing her past / character development! Anyways, if you can, please leave a review! Anything is appreciated! Stay safe and see you all next update :)
