Chapter 18: Closure
Tobi or rather Obito Uchiha was furious, as his plans had been sabotaged. It seems that Pein and Konan have learned the truth about his eye of the moon plan given that they had interrogated and killed off Zetsu. Of course both Pein and Obito fought each other in which the clear victor was none other than Obito, as Pein or rather Nagato was dying and living off of his genetics. However Nagato had the last laugh, as his plan wasn't to only die by Obito, but to stall the prick enough so that Konan could take Nagato's Rinnegan before escaping to Konoha. Obito tried to chase down Konan, but it seemed that Nagato wasn't going to allow Obito to leave and harm not only his friend, but also his distant cousin/fellow student of Jiraiya. So with everything he had, Nagato made the ultimate sacrifice to at least damage Obito, to which the cost of that sacrifice was his life and the rest of his paths. As Obito left Amegakure, he was busy trying to devise a plan on how to get to Konoha on his own since most of his allies are either dead or have betrayed him. But as he vanishes using Kamui, someone had been watching him from afar before poofing away with the new intel.
Hokage's Office
Naruto along with his friends, Itachi, Sasuke, Gaara, and Killer Bee were at the Hokage's office, as Konan was debriefing them on the intel she gathered. Before this meeting was taking place, Naruto had just found out about an ancient portal spell through some of the lost archives he found as he scoured Uzushiogakure during his free time. Using that ancient spell, he managed to get Gaara and Killer Bee to come through the portal into this realm they are in. Naturally both Gaara and Killer Bee were confused by this technique, but after a brief explanation as to what it is the two nodded. Anyways, Konan reveals the identity of who Tobi was and it was shocking to Kakashi, given that the fake Madara was his former friend who was still alive and was responsible for the attack on the leaf 18 years ago.
"To think Obito was still alive all this time and even Madara himself to a point," Kakashi stated, as he shook his head. Sasuke couldn't believe it either as the fake Madara was a missing Uchiha who helped out at the clan massacre and was responsible for the clan being blamed for the attack on the village. "What do we do with the eyes?" Harry asked, pointing at the jar with the Rinnegan. "Hard to say. We could destroy them given that Obito is after them in order to revive Madara and use him to distract us or we could transplant them into someone who could handle this much power," Kakashi stated. "I don't know about this, I mean from what I heard about the Rinnegan, this power could make someone powerful, but also corrupt them to the point where they turn into a crazy megalomaniac," Naruto pointed out.
"Naruto, when I was tasked to take out Nagato's eyes, he gave me one last request. He asked that when I take out his eyes, the Rinnegan shall belong to you," Konan stated. Naruto was shocked, "Are you serious? Me?" Naruto asked, as Konan nodded. "Yes Naruto, it was only you he could trust upon the Rinnegan towards. He believes that you might be the one to herald the peace in this world and sees lots of greatness within you as you remind him of himself and our former friend Yahiko. If he has this much faith in you, then I too will put my trust towards you," Konan stated. "I agree as well. Naruto, you have shown us that you are capable enough to handle this much power. After all the good you have done no matter what world you belong to, it is only fair that you earned this power," Kakashi stated. The blond was unsure as this power isn't meant to be used all willy nilly.
Itachi sensed Naruto's doubt and placed a hand on his shoulder, as the blond turned to him in surprise. "Naruto, no matter what happens, you will always be yourself. It doesn't matter if you have the eyes of an Uchiha, Hyuga, etc, that won't change the fact that you are Naruto Uzumaki. You are your own man, so feel free to make your choice on what you want to do and we will always be with you in every step of the way," Itachi assured. The others voiced their opinions as they agree that Naruto is the one capable enough to wield the Rinnegan. Hearing enough, Naruto nodded and decided to take Nagato's Rinnegan. "Ok if we're going to do this, we need a plan as Obito is going to come to the village looking for not only the eyes, but also the forbidden scroll," Naruto stated. Kakashi was surprised by how Naruto knew of it, but the blond explained about how he knew of it through Jiraiya and Itachi.
"First we're going to need to provide more security for the scroll as I have a feeling that the scroll is going to be used for Obito's plan. Second, in order for me to use the Rinnegan, I'm going to need the blood of an Uchiha, as the Rinnegan isn't an Uzumaki dojutsu from what I read," Naruto explained. "I'll do it. I'll give you some of my blood for you to awaken the Rinnegan," Sasuke offered. Naruto nodded and soon turned to Kakashi who agreed with it. "That settles it then, I'll do the security measure first, then we can begin the transplant," Naruto stated, as everybody nodded.
The Next Few Days
With the forbidden scroll being heavily protected thanks to Naruto's use of fuinjutsu, along with the eye transplant surgery being successful, all the blond could do now was wait. Given that his eyes were bandaged despite his healing factor, it would be quite some time before he could open the bandages. "How do you feel Naruto?" Hermione asked, as she sat next to the blond who was meditating. "Honestly, I feel a little better now despite having to get my eyes replaced. Like I expected it to be something worse, but surprisingly it wasn't bad," Naruto stated. "Right…anyways we've been placing some enchantments around the house. It should be enough to keep away Obito if he plans on breaking in," Hermione explained.
"It's also a good thing I provided some seals that can secretly alert us if Obito decided to sneak in," Naruto added, as he got back up to get something to drink. "Are you sure that you can walk around like this? I mean your eyes are bandaged," Hermione pointed out. The blond waves it off stating that he's fine even though he tripped, as Hermione chuckled before helping him up. As the two got something to drink, it looks like the sensors went off indicating that Obito had snuck into the village. "Heh, looks like it's time for me to correct a mistake," Naruto stated, as he put on his headband and strapped his blade on his back. "Be careful Naruto," Hermione asked, sounding worried. "Don't worry, I'll be fine after all he's the one that should be worried," Naruto stated, waving goodbye before flickering away.
With Obito
Obito had managed to sneak into the village without alerting anyone(even though he didn't realize that it was all part of Naruto's plan). The Uchiha's body was badly damaged from that fight he had with Pein, as he needed to get some of White Zetsu's body parts to replace his destroyed parts, but even then it was rather subpar and not up to his standards. Anyways he manages to sneak into the Hokage's office only to see that it was empty for the night. With the knowledge as to where the scroll was hidden, he uses the combination to open the safe hiding the scroll. Gleefully, Obito took out the forbidden scroll as his plan was successful or rather almost successful given that he heard hands clapping. "What the…" he said, turning around to see that it was Naruto along with Kakashi, Itachi, Konan, and Sasuke as they came out of the shadows. But before he could react, a barrier was placed locking them in.
"Hello Tobi or should I say…Obito Uchiha," Naruto stated, as the masked man was shocked and pissed. "So you know who I am?" Obito commented, not before he noticed something odd about the Nine Tails Jinchuriki's eyes, as they appear different. Naruto noticed this and smirked, "If you're thinking about getting the Rinnegan, I'm afraid you're already too late," Naruto stated before getting serious. "I know the truth as to why you did all those things. That plan of yours that you wish to invoke, you're being manipulated by that Zetsu freak into unleashing a megalomaniac rabbit goddess," he pointed out. "Lies! The eye of the moon plan would have brought peace! Zetsu explained it to me in great detail. There is no way he could make that up!" Obito yelled. "Now the plan was real, but it won't bring peace nor will you be the one to control it. Kaguya will be the one to control it as she will be the one to trap everybody in an Infinite Tsukuyomi as you intended it to be. Yet unlike your original intention, she plans to kill off the ones who dare oppose her and/or trap them in a genjutsu-like state living off a lie created from one's fantasy until the day they die," Naruto stated as Obito was getting furious.
"Obito…if you had survived, then why not come forward?! Why cause all of this?!" Kakashi asked, demanding an answer. "Because it is irrelevant whether I survived or not. But if you really want an answer…the reason is because…you let Rin die," Obito stated. "It doesn't matter, the eye of the moon plan will bring peace to the world. With it, I will be able to have Rin by my side. With it, my dream will become reality and with it no one will die while those I consider insignificant will no longer exist!" Obito shouted like a lunatic. Naruto was silent before he coldly laughed, as Obito was looking pissed. "Is there something funny about what I said?" Obito asked, as the blond stopped laughing and coldly looked at him.
"So you wanted this plan to go through, sacrificing the lives of people who had done no harm to you, committing all those senseless atrocities, all for a girl who died in the line of duty? Yeah I know who Rin is and you plan on creating a mere illusion of an innocent girl through your own memories and your imaginations. Alright then, what happens when you get tired of her, huh? What do you plan to do when you can't handle the joy of the illusion and the lie anymore every time you see the fake version of your dear Rin? Are you going to throw her away as if she were merely a toy that lost its fun? Are you going to destroy the illusion or better yet the genjutsu itself? How do you feel knowing the lie becomes more painful than the truth, huh? Tell me!" Naruto demanded. "My world will become real! Nothing matters, only Rin matters! I will have her back one way or another!" Obito shouted deranged.
"Yeah sure you will, I mean there could've been other alternatives such as the reanimation jutsu or whatever they call it these days. But you know you don't have the cojones to do so, as the real Rin would have disapproved of your actions. You want to live the lie that the fake Rin would encourage you and look the other way every time you lie. Heck if she were alive and saw you act like this, she would've been scared, probably yell at you, denouncing your friendship with her, claim that you died on that fateful day, stating that you're nothing but a monster using her former friend's body to commit all these atrocities," Naruto stated calmly. "No…No! You lie! She wouldn't think that! No you're just trying to trick me! Well too late, you won't beat me as I'm stronger! I'm smarter! I'm better! I'M BETTER!" Obito yelled, as everybody raised an eyebrow. "Lies? In your former sensei's office? If my father were seeing this, he would've been disappointed at you for thinking this way. The way I see it, you're the weak one and you'll never know love or friendship, not anymore. And I feel sorry for you," Naruto mocked.
"Enough talk, all that matters is my ambition becoming real and Rin being by my side. Each and everyone of you along with others who oppose me will have no place in the world I will create!" Obito exclaimed, as Naruto took out his gunblade. "Swing first bitch! I'll just finish what my father started in the first place," Naruto stated, as Obito seethed. Given that Obito was kind of outnumbered, he was definitely having a challenge taking on the five of them. "Come on Obito, I thought this was a fight not a dance!" Naruto retorted, kicking Obito in the balls. "Your father wouldn't have done that!" Obito gasped, as he wondered how they could hit him when he should've phased through it. "Shame. I'm not my father. And to answer your question as to why we're able to hit you, well that is a secret so figure it out on your own," Naruto stated.
Of course Obito tried to grab Sasuke wanting to steal one of his eyes, but Itachi saw through this and immediately used Amaterasu on Obito. Obito was burning as he screamed in pain from the black flames. 'Why am I not able to use my Sharingan?! What is going on?!' Obito thought, until he remembered when he clashed with Konan, the paper lady placed something on his back, but he was focused on the battle. 'That bitch! She placed a seal on me!' he thought, as he was getting shocked by lightning. It was Sasuke as he used a Chidori Stream to stun Obito to the ground. "Now Itachi!" Sasuke yelled, as Itachi immediately rushed and chopped off one of Obito's arms. But before Obito could scream, paper covered his mouth as Konan used her paper ninjutsu to restrain him. Naruto used his daggers to slice Obito's face, causing both of his Sharingan eyes to pop out, as an x-formation appeared on Obito's face.
'It wasn't supposed to end this way. My dream! My ambition! I could have been with Rin again! My precious Rin!' Obito thought as begged for someone to help him. But before Naruto could kill Obito, Kakashi stopped the blond. "Naruto, you have done enough. It's time I finished him, as he made your life a living hell. I failed to save Rin and I failed to save your parents, so please let me be the one to finish this," Kakashi requested. Naruto was silent, but he nodded knowing that even if he wanted to be the one to avenge his parents, it won't change the past, it's only going to make him feel empty. The blond allows Kakashi to do the honors of killing Obito, as the masked hokage looked at his former friend turned enemy with a look of pity and sadness. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry Obito…for all of it. Even if you hate me for the rest of your life, I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry I failed to protect Rin. I hope you will find peace in death," Kakashi stated, as he charged a lightning blade. With the lightning blade in his hand, he stabs through Obito's chest taking the life out of him.
Kakashi silently cried, knowing that he is now officially the last of his former team. While that happened, everybody watched without a word as they let the man grieve. After that was over, Kakashi turned to Konan with a serious look. "Now that Obito is gone, what do you plan to do?" he asked. "The Akatsuki are gone, I plan on simply just taking care of Amegakure as it is my home," Konan stated. But before she left, Naruto stopped her for a moment. "Wait before you go, I wanted to give you this," he said, handing her something. Konan was confused, as she looked at the letter until she was shocked by who wrote it. It was Jiraiya's and as she opened the letter, she read everything and inside the letter was a picture of her, Yahiko, Nagato, and Jiraiya as they took their first team picture together. Once she read the letter for once the dam of her emotions broke, as she cried with all her tears. Naruto comforted the former Akatsuki member as Konan didn't reject it. Once that was done, Konan was back to normal as she looked at Naruto. "Thank you Naruto, for giving me this letter," she said, as the blond nodded. She soon leaves the office, as it was now only Naruto, Kakashi, and the Uchiha brothers. "So now that the Akatsuki are gone, what do you plan on doing, Naruto?" Kakashi asked. "I was thinking I could stay for a few more days, say my goodbyes and probably take care of some stuff before heading back," Naruto stated. Kakashi nodded, "Very well then, I'll leave you to it." After that was over, Naruto and the Uchiha brothers went their separate ways, as the blond decided to sit atop the stone head of his father. "I finally did it mom and dad, I finally got my justice," he said to himself, watching the sunrise, ready for a brand new day.
